Beware New SMS Scam - Networking

Several months ago, I started receiving unsolicited text messages.... this happened for several days and escalated to the point where I was getting 25-30 messages daily.... they were all from unusual, incomplete sender numbers (like sent from "3481", or "5892"). I finally responded to one of them, which said, "To stop receiving these messages, text the word "STOP" to 3481". The messages stopped coming.
When going over last month's T-Mobile bill, (which I rarely do because it's automatically debited every month), I noticed a $29. charge from "MundoMedia text services". I looked at the previous month's charges, and there it was again..... I immediately contacted T-Mobile and told them I had not subscribed to MundoMedia or any other "text service". They COULD NOT remove these past charges because they had already paid MundoMedia these monthly fees. T-Mobile explained to me that, much like computer-generated sales calls to random numbers, there are now computer-generated text messages that go out to random numbers..... And whenever someone texts back to them (even when instructed by the message to send the word "stop" back to them), you're UNKNOWINGLY signing up for this monthly service.
Bottom line, after I got the unsolicited service removed from my current month's bill, T-Mobile offered me "insurance" for $4.95 a month that would eliminate any future incidents like this again.... I'm actually considering it because I have 5-lines on my "Family Plan", so this could get costly.... one way or another (unfortunately)...
Just passing this along to our XDA community....

damn thats just a lose lose situation its either you get constantly bombarded with texts or pay $30. Since you contacted t-mobile and unsubscribed from the service have you been receiving anymore of these texts?

This happened to me too about a year ago. I started receiving some trivia game texts from short numbers and then was charged $40 that month.
When trying to figure this out with my carrier or the little sms game company, they were all giving me "sorry sorry" I said fuh IT!
I didn't pay the $40 out of silent rage. Eventually my provider removed it from my unpaid amount...
PS: The company that was sending me this crap was called Predicto and this is the jew that started this scam.(no offense to jewish ppl here) His name is eyal yechezkell

T-Mo plan problem... Make sure your not getting billed for text's!

So this morning I go to send a couple text messages from my Tab and they wont send... just a red circle with an X. No explanation, nothing...
Awhile later I try to make a call from my G2 and am redirected to 611 with a message stating my service had been temp. disconnected because of fraudulent activity on my account????
The woman explains that when the Tab account was set up, they had no enabled unlimited text messages and the 3600 text messages I had sent/received in three weeks were billed at $.20 each. I asked how this was possible and she said that although the Tab plan does include unlimited text messages, it must be enabled separately and the sales associate had not done this.
She went ahead and made the changes and turned my damn phone back on...

Text charges

Has anyone else had text charges show up on their monthly Verizon bill? I had 3 listed and after calling Verizon they adjusted them but also said there were 10 more. The rep. said I should call back in and have the number associated with the device changed on my next bill cycle.

Every time I install Cyanogenmod on my Sprint Evo I end up with several international text charges even though I don't send any international text messages. Once I flash back to my original software the international text messages stop. I can't figure out which program or setting in Cyanogenmod is sending the international texts...

Huge SMS errors

Ok to make a long story short i was over at the sprint forums and I was talking to a rep how I had huge text message delays like 6+ hour delays.. they would get my messages quick (people I send them to) however the message I would get back from them is huge..
Anyways they checked the tower in my area and it was find however they noticed my handset had a few messages trying to get to the device but unable to.. something like m buffer (2).. anyways he gave me some short codes to try before doing a reset.. and thats where I have my issue now...
The first one I did was the handset activation one I guess and I saw no change.. so I did the reset and now I'm getting a SMS Error Radio Interface Resource Shortage error.. unable to make any calls without hearing a error message recording.
in his message to me he said that for the reset I would enter in the code and all and it would reset but it just hangs at saying "Please wait while committing change..." it's been like this for at least 10 min.. and to make sure it was nothing in the background I wiped the phoen clean and tried to do it again and same hanging up...
Any suggestions?
OMG.. Sprint CS...
So I signed up with the Sero plan when I got my Evo because of the referral code and whatnot.. So I call Customer service and I could already tell when the guy spoke the first few lines that he was going to be a handful and sure enough I gave him my phone number and account name and he was Like...
OH wait this account is locked and I say to me locked what? and He was like this is a company phone and you need them to call and I'm like what are you talking about... I've never had this issue before with anyone else..
So he gives me some number 800-927-2199
and I can see it now.. I call and they are going to send me back and forth...
Reason why I'm calling sprint now is while the Sprint rep on the sprint form helped me I'm left with unable to make calls (gives a switch and error code) and SMS does not work.. oddly data works...
*edit
Wow what a ride.. it's a pain if you call from another Sprint phone under another person's name...
Anyways I called and a guy who I knew by the sound of his voice was going to give me a hard time and as soon as he saw my account was a sero plan he was like I can't help you and gave me the number for the business end of Sprint.. I called back again and I got this nice lady that helped me and then when she was unable to do anything she sent me to tech support and they were able to help me.. I did not get any of those pending messages yet.. but I did send a message between the two phones and it's really fast like 2-4 seconds.
also it pays to call back more then once.. you would think they would all get the same training but it's like hit or miss with Sero people..

[Q] Text messages get garbled with old messages?

Every couple of days, I get a text message from my girlfriend (she uses an iPhone 4 on Verizon) where the first half of the message is one thing and halfway through it appends a completely different, older text message. For example, this one came in 4 days ago:
"I wanna do something cool during the day tomorrow, like Enchanted Rock or something, so bring proper outdoor workout attire or shorts if we just go to Lought of losing it gets me so scared haha. <3 It"
In this case, the first message should have read "I wanna do something cool during the day tomorrow, like Enchanted Rock or something, so bring proper outdoor workout attire or shorts if we just go to Lockhart or something" but it appended an old message halfway through where she was telling me about the thought of losing her ring that I bought her, scares her.
I looked at that particular message detail and it says it was sent at 7:00PM and received at 6:59PM on Feb. 22, which makes no sense. The second message that it appended was from many many days before (I scrolled through back as far as I could to Jan 30 and never found that conversation we were having about her losing her ring, so it must have occurred before then).
I am using my Nexus 4 with a monthly T-Mobile sim on the $30 plan (unlimited text, unlimited data (5GB), 100 minutes talk). I get terrible reception in my apartment which is where I am at most of the time when she sends me messages, so I thought maybe that had something to do with it. I have not noticed this issue with anyone else yet, but honestly I don't really text much with anyone else, and those messages that I do send/receive are never very long compared to what she sends me. I am curious if anyone else has seen this problem and if it is a service-related issue or a phone issue.

I have the exact same problem... I'll do you one better and say that I randomly don't get text messages either. Same exact situation as you. She's in Verizon with an iphone and I have the $30 prepaid with t-mobile. I have tried everything under the sun and cannot fix the problem... Its really starting to tarnish my view on the phone and the $30 plan... If you've found any solutions please let me know.

If you're having this issue with only one sender, the issue is far more likely to be the sender's phone, carrier, or the third party the carrier uses for intercarrier SMS than your own phone. Having the sender contact their customer support is generally the best option.
Only if you're having the issue with multiple (or all) senders on multiple carriers including your own is it likely that your phone or carrier is at fault.
recover text message from iPhone
I'll take you through all the possibilities of recovering the text messages from iPhone.
=> Check for iCloud backup if you have any so that you can restore the SMS saved on iCloud.
=> Check for iTunes backup. Download and install the free software "iPhone Backup Extractor" and launch the app. It will automatically search for any backups on your computer.
=> Check for your lost text message in Windows/Users/Contacts folder. There are times when iTunes saves the text messages in this folder.
Hope one of these methods will help you.

1: "Ghost" notif sound/vibe ~1/min? 2: Call blocking w/o Call Master app (req. root)
First a quick success story (*Please* skip straight to the 2 questions below if you are pressed for time. This story has nothing to do with my 2 problems/questions): I just got this phone Friday, after talking to Sprint's Customer Retention Department (how I love them - miracle workers) to get out of an existing lease on my previous phone, the Galaxy S5 "Sport", which was a BIG mistake to get. I still had another 14 months left on the lease, and I was SO sick of the phone, so I called threatening to cancel my service. I said that T-Mobile has offered to pay my early termination fees and give me a free S7 Edge and the "Jump" program. I told them that I really did not want to leave Sprint, but I felt like they were giving me no choice. *Boom*. Lease canceled with no fees, phone buyback amount credited, and a $25 loyalty rebate next month to offset the ONLY thing I had to pay (the $30 activation fee) when picked up the S7 Edge at a Sprint Corporate store down the street from my office less than an hour later. I felt like I'd gotten away murder! The store employee was combative at first after looking at the notes on my account, so I just called Customer Retention again on speaker phone, and I happened to get the same nice young lady, who proceeded to verbally and emotionally abuse/bully the store employee into doing *exactly* what she said, including apologizing to me for his "incompetence" (her word!). I was blown away. This was all on a whim. I didn't wake up on Friday planning to do this, so I had an unexpectedly enjoyable weekend with my new precious. I was disappointed at first about the relatively small amount of Root/Kernel/ROM discussion going on, but I got over that very quickly. I love Samsung pay already anyway.
Hope that made some of you chuckle.
2 questions for the Sprint S7E vets.... I scoured this phone's entire forum group for the answers to both of them, but with no success:
1. I am hearing the default notification sound (or a single short vibration pulse if ringer is set to vibrate), VERY frequently. Every 30 seconds, then 45, then 30 seconds again, then 1 minute, and yet.... there is nothing in the notification pull-down indicating any activity. It's not a "persistent" notif for a new email/gmail/text/FB-event that I haven't truly acknowledged. There is LITERALLY nothing visible happening on the phone. No LED behavior change, no icon counters on any home screen, or in the app drawer. There is NOTHING to acknowledge. I feel like Jack in The Shining... more and more with each vibration! I have gone into settings/notifications (basic and advanced) and blocked notifs from every app I saw that I didn't see any reason for it to notify me, but the notifs keep coming, and coming.... Could blocking individual app notifs as I did have actually created this behavior somehow? This problem is the one that I can't make it through the day without going insane if I can't figure it out. WOW.
2. My primary reason to root in the past, other than bloatware removal and the hotspot mod, was an app requiring root that I have run on my last 6 phones, going back to the original Epic 4G. It's called Call Master (by "Fahrbot") and it is one of the most complex apps I've ever used, besides some of the Wanam apps/plugins. It's the most comprehensive call blocking app as far as I know, and that's why it requires root, to hook into the phone's services in order to catch/answer/hang-up any call from any number that is not in my contact list. It prevents non-contacts/unknown/restricted/private numbers from even ringing my phone, let alone leaving me a voicemail. They just hear dead air when they dial my number. In effect, it is a "white-list" call blocking root only app, and I I simply can't live without it. I haven't had time yet to test the built in so-called "blocking" settings of the S7E, but if it sends them to my VM, well... that's call rejection, not call blocking, right?.
Sorry for the length. Any and all thoughts/ideas appreciated. The "ghost" notif issue is driving me insane even as I type this... OMG!
Problem #1 stopped when I turned off the slider at settings/accessibility/notification reminders. I swear it was doing it even when there were NO unacknowledged notifs though. At least it stopped, but does anyone know what invisible notif could have somehow remained unacknowledged without any way to see it?
#2 I'd still appreciate input on, from anyone who has experience with the phone's built-in call-blocking functions.
