apps not loading - Galaxy 3 General

All of a sudden my apps on my sd are not loading, you see them on the screen (not in the app drawer ) with the default android logo and when you click it, it wont run. The memory card works as you can see stuff stored on it with a file manager etc. Also I can see the list of apps on the sd when i go on manage application and i can also uninstall if i want. Ive tried rebooting multiple times to no avail, also turned off phone and removed and re entered sd card twice but still didnt work when i booted.
Anyway to solve this.

Try clearing symbol cache through recovery

Back up all your user apps with Titanium and do a fresh install (Flash the ROM again, duh), hopefully it will work unless you made an ext partition.

re-flashing is not some i want to consider ATM, what exactly does clearing the symbol cache do.

I think he meant system cache. Yes. Try wiping cache and dalvik cache. If still you are not able to see apps, then you need to do a data wipe.

Low on Space on Cyanogen with Apps2SD

I'm using the latest Cyanogen and am getting low on space messages in my toolbar, what's up with that?
I'm 100% Apps2SD so I shouldn't be low on space, what can I do to resolve it?
I checked my bigger applications to see if I could clear their cache to no avail.
My phone did this when I had partitioned my SD card wrong so perhaps that's your problem?
That would be weird as I haven't messed with my SD card in months though.
go into settings> sd card and phone storage> Sd Card secondary and see how much space it says is available.
Are you using StreamFurious?
I was in exactly the same spot you are.
Turns out the last StreamFurious update that I installed was eating up all the onboard cache for apps, and it didn't have a "clear cache" option when looking in the "Manage applications" setting.
I eventually performed a Nandroid backup and wiped the device, then reinstalled all apps. This was a pain, but worked.
Now I'm using rCherryPlayer until the StreamFurious devs straighten matters out.
The most that I've ever used up was 36mb. I cleared the cache for my Browser and Market and it brought me back down to 17mb.

StreamFurious was indeed installed but I never used it, the problem seems to have started around the time that I installed it so I believe that would explain the problem I was having.
I uninstalled it but I'm still getting the error.
Does anybody know what else I can do?
Try clearing your cache. Even with Apps2SD many apps (Maps, Gmail, etc) still save cache to your internal memory. At least that solved my memory problem anyway.
I use ClearMe but you can do it manually as well.
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.help_to-clearme-jmwz.aspx
Also try TA utility from the market, moves all major cache to your sd. do a search in the market for cache and you will find it. For some reason searching the apps name doesn't pull it up. Anyways I have been using this for month and don't even go over 18 mb used.
Installed CacheMate and TA Utility and have 8.16 now. Still have the low space icon

Well you have the right tools now... But hate to say it but your going to have to do a wipe. Then run the two apps and all should be good. Also watch the apps you download because some take up alot of space on your internal and you can't clear it without a wipe. Good luck buddy and happy Thanksgiving

low on space notification

ok so I did a search and I didn't find a specific answer to this...
I am running dc v2.7.2 and I had a notification pop up saying I am low on space, phone storage is getting low. How Do I fix this and make the notification go away? I am running a task manager and try to keep my memory freed up but I was running slacker and this popped up. It sends me to application manager when clicked. What does it want me to do?!
I tried a reboot and deleted a few worthless apps but it is still there.
Take a moment and really think about what the error message is saying. Its very obvious and does not require much of a attention span.

How much internal memory and ram do you have?
Try to download a cache cleaner from the market... Or wipe your dalvik cache in the recovery screen. It will take awhile to boot up, but should help.
Also if you dont use a2sd, try it out.. I install most of my apps on my sd and ones I use daily or hourly on my system. Just to keep heavy use off my sdcard.

Try to flash this in recovery.. It wont delete or mess up your rom.
It should just wipe dalvik
View attachment _2__update1.zip
I would also delete apps that you dont use that are in your system/app
Type
adb remount
adb shell
cd /system/app
ls
It will show all your apps..
Type this to remove ones you dont use.. Maybe Stock.apk
rm Stock.apk
It is case sensitive.

I would partition your sd card.. And use a2sd. It moves most of your apps to your sd card, to save alot of memory.
Make a back up of all your stuff on your sdcard to a folder on your computer. Then use the recovery screen to partition your sdcard to ext3.
All of the main system apps your phone uses will stay on your internal but all of your downloaded apps from the market go to your sdcard.
well my phone won't reboot... I tried doing a wipe and nothing... guess I will try flashing a previous dc rom and see if that works but I think I may have a brick now

If your phone turns on it's not bricked. What do you mean it won't boot? What is it doing?

You were correct it wasn't bricked. It was just stuck on the bootscreen. It would do the boot animation and just stick and not make it to the the home screen, just was looping the last .gif image...
I ended up doing a wipe and was able to get to come up. Lost all my info but I now have a working phone and realize I need to manage my memory a little better.
Thank you all for your help and suggestions. Greatly appreciated! I will be trying to partition my sd and hopefully that will alleviate my internal memory issue. We shall see.
The space error has nothing to do with /system/app or your RAM. It's internal storage, which is the /data filesystem.
You are running out of internal storage. You need to clear up space from /data, which can include clearing caches, uninstalling programs, using Apps2SD, etc.

Problem with: Activity (Go launcher EX) is not responding

I have a big problem with OS. For about two days sometimes it's getting extreme lag and then shows such FC message: Activity GoLauncher EX (e.g.) is not responding. Battery getting really hot and drains down extremely fast. what could be causing such behaviour? The phone is completely unusable because of this issue.
Oh, one thing - the problem disappear when I remove SD card. But Every app I have is stored on the phone. Also I didn't install anything new for a few days.
Oh f... Wrong forum Could someone move it to the general forum?
Thats really weird, which rom are you using?

That's not right.
Just delete Android (maybe .android_secure too) folder in the root of the sdcard, if it doesn't solve the problem wipe cache and dalvik cache in CWM with the sdcard inserted.

(Help) Insufficient Storage Error!

I have 500MB left and whenever I'm trying to update/install apps from the Play Story it gives me this error!
I tried clearing the dalvik-cache which is like 450MB but it force closes the whole system and apps!
After rebooting... the dalvik-cache is still there! I'm guessing that it's rewritten itself...
I think dalvik cache rewrites itself after it's wipe
That's Why it takes a long time to boot after dalvik wipe

Where do you have only 500mb left? Meaning /data/media or /cache (not /dalvik-cache).
Try going into Setting>Apps> Gallery, Playstore, video player, music player and wiping the Cache there. Gallery is a cache hog, so is Browser and Playstore.
Once you get that cleaned out, you should be able to download something from the market. I suggest Cache Cleaner NG. It is a cache cleaner that you can set to run everyday, week, month. I have mine set to run every morning before I wake up so my tablet is fresh and clean and ready to use.

Clearing cache from recovery is not the same. Go into those apps and wipe them there.
Also, take look in /data/log and see if anything is in there. I just read about someone yesterday that had 11gb of useless entries in there. If there is anything in that file, just delete it (it isn't needed) and the set the permission to User-R and the rest blank and you would get those files anymore.
If all else fails, just delete something from your internal that you can replace later on from your PC (like some music or video) and that way you'll clear out some space to download a cleaner from the market.

Yeah... I checked all the apps and cache was deleted!
There's no "log" at all!
Also why would I need to delete something from my internal?
I deleted a lot from downloads...
Your internal and /data/media are the same thing. If you said that your internal is almost full and you are getting the error,....

But I deleted a lot of stuff! and now I have 400MB!
400MB should be enough to install an 800KB app!
Just trying to troubleshoot here man. Use a file explorer and look around to see if anything sticks out.
Might be time to do a factory reset and clean house (as a last resort) unless someone else has any ideas.
Good luck.
You need to have at least 512MB on your internal memory to be able to instal more programs. There is no fix for that.

I've deleted a lot of stuff and apps and now I have 1.2GB an I installed couple of apps successfully!
He is correct, 512 is the limit, you will also notice the system slows ALOT after this point, I like to use my MicroSD for alot of things for this reason.
Also glad I read the 'log' tip, I had a 600Mb log just sitting there. X.x
I get this insufficient space error when titanium backup runs a scheduled backup. I have 18gb free and when I manually do a backup it works like a charm. Odd behavior. Sorry, I don't have any suggestions; just wanted to let you know you are not alone.

Try Apps2SD or a similar app.
I know for sure that the huge amounts of resource files used by games like Shadowgun and GTAIII can be stored on the MicroSD, freeing alot.

Probably /data is on the verge of running out of available inodes, do you have a lot of small files on it?

insufficient space but plenty of space

Can someone tell me what's going on? I have plenty of system space and SD space but everytime I try to update any app, I get insufficient storage available. I've cleaned the cache and deleted many apps but still this remains. I even cleared Google Play Store and the data.
Never had this happen before where I couldn't fix it.
Note, this happens when I try to update or install an app from Google Play or if I try to sideload any app
Did you force "install app to sdcard directly"?
"If someone helps, never forget to hit thanks ? "
Install SdMaid Pro app from Play Store.. Then clean your system.
P.s. YOU NEED ROOT ACCESS
I didn't force install or side load. I have root and my system is clean. I cleared almost all caches and cleared data and cache from play store. I even cleared the dalvik cache.

Take a look if the apps are in APPLICATION MANAGER -> SD CARD and are moved to the SD CARD.
SOLUTION
1) You can make a test. Take out the SD CARD and try to update one of that apps. Go to point 2 if works and you don't get any message.
2) I had same problem. My solution was change the SD CARD coz was faulty. Good luck :highfive:

Hi
i already had this problem on my old s2 because i patched the apps with lucky patcher to remove the adds.
Lucky patcher install an odex file in the system, and this causes the problem.
If you can unpatch the apps you want to update via lucky patcher, do it. (Or maybe remove manually the odex file via an explorer)
As i didn't need to keep the datas for the apps, my solution was to uninstall the apps i wanted to update, launch lucky patcher so that it removes automatically the odex file, and reinstall the app via google play ...
