Xoom HDMI issue - Xoom General

I've tried two different hdmi cables on my xoom. One was 20 from target, the other was 2 from amazon. Both worked perfectly for a few days. I bought the amazon one after the target one stooped working. Both times after a few uses the hdmi cable feels loose when I plug it into the xoom and the xoom doesn't respond. Fresh out of the box both cables felt tight and the xoom responded right away. Should I return the xoom for a new one or just bad cable luck? Any others have this issue?

Samsung USB cable Crap?

Since I have gotten the Epic I have had so many issues with windows seeing the phone and installing the proper drivers even right after restarting the phone. Im lucky if windows see's the phone one out of 10 times I have to plug unplug etc etc until my pc's see the darn phone.
So I caught a post earlier that suggested to try a different cable and BAMM!!! phone links every single time no issues. Im using the usb cable that came with my evo now. Just side by side you can see the huge quality difference.
Samsung might want to check these cables and I suggest if your having charging or communication problems with the phone to try a new cable.
Let me know if any of you are also able to reproduce this!!
Yes. My cable actually broke the 2nd day of owning this phone because it was tugged on a little too hard while i was using my phone with it charging. It wouldn't charge the phone unless it was being pushed upwards or held a certain way.
Pathetic.
I've since been using my girl's MyTouch 3g cable and have had no issues whatsoever.
I just purchased a few new cables from monoprice. I've always had awesome results from them and they are cheap.
Yes the cable that comes with the epic should not be used with a computer IMO. Just look at the charger that plugs into the wall and compare it to the USB pins on your computers case.
The pins are raised a lot higher on the part that plugs into the wall compaired to how raised the pins are on my PC's case. I'm running an antec 1200 and I would consider the front USB ports to be really "tight". I then tried a different cable and have had no problems.......OTHER THAN BATTERY LIFE IN GENERAL sucks on the epic.
I didn't Realize there was a problem with the usb cable on th
e computer side but I have been using my I mac since my pc took a dump b. i think the phone end of the usb cable is just crap.it seems to disconnect really easy and not near as robust as the one that came with my hero. Still love my epic though!

Come on. Both the cable and the wall unit sucks. A phone that is 500 bucks and you give me a .7 amp charger and a cheap ass cable? My HTC touch pro came with a 1 amp charger, that looked nice, and came with a good cable.

Right? Well at least we got 16g sd cards. They have to give and take you know? lol
my cord works just fine.
However i only have one mini usb (the one that came with it) so i ordered some micro usb to mini usb adapters so i can use all my old cables.
Just order a bunch of microUSB cables from monoprice. It's like $1.20/cable. I ordered 7 so I have a large collection of easily lost cables.
How the hell did I not know about this site? THANKS

HDMI Connector cable

Hooked up my Acer to my HDTV with a HTC cable I had (HTC HDMI Cable - D-type to A-type connector) . Really nice quality and it mirrors the Acer (meaning whatever is shown on the Acer is shown on the TV). This is nice after my experience with my HTC EVO 4g phone... only certain apps on the phone would output to the TV. A little of the display was cut off as my HDTV has limited overscan, but it was great for watching websites with flash video or watching downloaded movies.

I love it, and it works exceptionally well. I have been playing NFS Shift on my 90 inch screen and looks every bit as good as on the tablet screen. I was a little concerned with what the quality was going to be like, but my worries were put to rest. I had my droid x hdmi cable that work with the tab perfectly. It's a good thing cuz I never used it for my droid x as it does not mirror the display like this tab does. I give kudos to Acer for building an outstanding product.

Haha NFS is so good on my TV also. I play it more than my consoles atm.

Cable Sensitivity
My HDMI out is very sensitive to the position of the cable. For instance, if I lay the Acer on a flat surface the HDMI out works great. Once I lift the tablet and cause any downward strain to the HDMI connection I lose the signal. If I hold the cable in place while holding the tablet I get the signal again.
Is this a defect specific of my tablet or is this an issue with the connection using mini HDMI? If a few of you are playing NFS I'm assuming I may have a loose HDMI out connector.
Faulty HDMI out
Well I took the Acer back to BB after further inspecting the connection. The HDMI out of the A500 was so loose that the slightest movement caused the output connection to be lost. Best Buy was extremely accommodating including offering to custom cut an anti-glare screen protector that I had applied myself in order to match the product I was exchanging.
We tested the device's HDMI output and all is well. Wel except me having to start over and re-configure a new tablet
Good to hear. My cable should be arriving today but I think I now made a mistake buying a 6' cable. It was only $4.50 so ill see how it works ands will probably get a 15' for playing games.

A500 not connecting to TV through HDMI
Hey all,
Seeing as you are discussing cables and HDMI here, figured this may be the best spot for my question.
I recently bought an A500 tab 32GB and have been trying to connect it to my Panasonic 127cm Plasma TV through HDMI.
Ordered a HDMI to HDMI mini cable (type A to C) and tried to connect the tablet to the TV, but no luck.
The Tab screen shows HDMI connected but the TV screen remains black and there is no mirroring at all.
Any advise? Could it be the cable, tab or TV?
Unfortunately don’t have other devices with HDMI that I could test
Thanks for the help

Take it into the local electronics store and test it on a TV there. Act like you're interested in the TV and you wanted to test it out with your tablet.

You've completely missed my point. I have ordered plenty from here. I am asking is there something I missed? Or should I simply return it for exchange? Video was fine but no audio... gonna try my other TV.

I'm sensing a little sarcasm, or at least I hope you have more faith in me than that.
Edit: Now thats weird, audio worked fine on my other TV.
The TV not working has HDMI coming from my Denon receiverinto HDMI 1, but I use my receiver and surround sound for the audio... Just thought of something though, because the TV volume doesn't work for cable TV unless the receiver is off...
I got this cable from Amazon.com, 15 feet, and it has worked fine on two different tv's.
Eh, starting to wonder if the speakers on my TV are bad. I've used my receiver speakers exclusively for a long time and never use the TV speakers. When the receiver is off, the audio is suppose to bypass the receiver and route the the TV speakers... I get nothing now. And no audio on a completely separate HDMI input on the same TV. The fact I got audio on my second TV is enough fto convince me the cable is fine. Time to talk to Best Buy about my main TV...

XOOM micro-HDMI to TV screen issue

Sorry if I have missed a thread similar to this but most I find are regarding the port.
I have hooked up my Xoom to my TV but there is an issue with the screen cutting off part of the tablet window. When I plug the cable in a black bar appears above the notification and menu section at the bottom on the tablet window and when it appears on the TV it looks like what is seen here - http://twitpic.com/4sre10
The notification area is cut off and the top right and left corners don't sit correctly either.
Is there a way to solve this as the aspect options on my TV refuse to change in order to make things fit or is this just an issue with the micro-hdmi to the TV?
Thanks
I can't tell from the picture, but its either OverScan or Aspect Ratio. But nothing that can be adjusted on the Xoom.
I had to adjust the picture size on my tv....

Has anyone had any trouble with the micro-hdmi not fitting well in the xoom? I have to hold mine a little twisted or it loses the connection. Trying to figure out if it is the cord or a xoom problem.
I have the exact issue. I'm hoping is the cable, I bought one from amazon, it is not the official Motorola one. I have given the cable to a friend of mine and he said he had the same problem. However, he has the Atrix, which also has a micro hdmi out, and he tried it with the same cable and works fine.....So, either the cable is bad (most likely) or the motorola port hardware design is not the best. I have order the official Motorola HDMI cable so i'll let you know how that goes. But I would like to know if anyone here had issues with the HDMI, and which cable you have.

mine fits nicely, its a dynex
It's probably the aspect ratio. I had to adjust my tv for this. But last time I tried my xoom wouldn't resize to my tv.
This is normal behaviour. The extra black pixels appear to show you what is being put out to the screen. The Xoom will only put out an exact, 1:1 mapped 1280x720 (720p) image, which excludes the menu bar and the extra black pixels (because the screen resolution is 1280x800). The rest of the cut off is due to your TV over scanning. Look for a 1:1/no overscan/"PC Mode" on your TV. If there isn't one, you're out of luck.
I had same issue, figured it was the tv ratio

Did you put tape on the metal part of the connector on the cord, or wrap it around the plastic/rubber part of the cord?
I've got the overpriced Rocketfish (Best Buy) cable. It fits just fine.

Display Problems
My TV and Xoom displays occasionally (like every 5-10 min) blank out for a few seconds. The only app I have used with HDMI for an extended period of time has been Clock. One time I even saw the display fill with monochrome static, also for only a couple of seconds. This doesn't seem to happen with other apps, like DoubleTwist or Fruit Ninja, but I have not tested them for long periods of time.
I have a 32" LG (probably European, came from Kuwait) that I guess my Xoom just doesn't like very much. I had wondered about the screen not being displayed properly, but haven't tried anything to fix it as I am only using it for the Clock app right now.
I just got my HDMI cable, so I have only been able to test this with Tiamat 1.4.1. I got my cable for $10 when I bought my case from KeviKev.com [sp].

Xoom problem. I had the same issue with the Acer A500 and had to return the unit. Once I got a replacement device the issue went away. I do not have this problem with my Xoom HDMI out. HDMI should fit snug and not have to be wiggled in order to get the output to work.

My Xoom learned a new trick...

...Play dead.
We all know how brilliant a design the charge cord adapter is, I myself am on to my third one in almost two years. Well, the tablet stopped charging today and no matter which wall outlet I used or how much I wiggled the lead I could not make the light come on. Seeing that my Verizon contract is all but done at the end of this month and rather than buy another charge cord I decided to buy a new tab. I just picked up the new Asus Transformer Infinity, not too bad so far. Anyways, about 20 minutes after getting home with neither tablet charged to a useable level, the power goes out for a couple hours- just my luck too. When the power came back on suddenly the light on the Xoom came on. I hadn't touched it since I gave up on trying to get it to charge. Now here I am with two tablets and a $500 hole in my pocket. I know I was bound to get a new one eventually so I'm going to hang on to it but I never saw it happening like this.
Has anyone else had any issues regarding their chargers? Or anything unusual occur in general? I'm sure I'm not alone.
Ouch I would hate to folk out another $500 dollars for a new tablet even though my old one still works. I don't use my tablet for any intensive apps like games, so a new one would be pretty pointless for me. I never had any issues with my charger, well one time one of my charger did blow up, but that's because the battery was faulty for my jump charger for my car. Other than that, you might have some dust in the charger pin hole? Just a guess really.
I'm on my third charger since March. Original Motorola one died, second one (off eBay) burnt out, current one (off eBay) still working but I can't use the touchscreen while unit is charging.
I live remote using an off-grid power supply so this may have something to do with it.

Huh. I have four of them, from the original back in Feb '11 to one I was given a few months back, and they all work perfectly- and most of 'em are used every week (two at home, one in the office, one for travel).
agreed with kcrudup, ive been through 2, the only reason being i snapped the connector on the first one when i pulled it out at a bad angle
The charger that came with my refurbished Xoom lasted almost through the first charge. I thought I was going to have to send the whole thing back until I took it into the Verizon store and verified that it charged with a different charger. I've since got one off eBay and another with the standard dock. Both have been holding out so far.
Oh and my Xoom touch screen doesn't respond while charging either. Somewhere I read that a factory reset will fix that... but I'm waiting until my 90 day warantee is up to put EOS on it since my BT mouse works while it is charging.

My original charger is still working and I got my tablet 8 months back. I think the charger has lasted pretty well. How long did peoples original ones seem to last?

That's an electrical problem (noise and/or grounding issues with the charger raise the "noise floor" so the touchscreen controller has trouble determining what's a valid touch) and can't be cured by any reset, factory or full or ...
Your issue is your charger- try another.

Just a quick note.. I've had the ebay sourced chargers fail on my xoom ( and other devices). I found that the power ratings on some of them are rather optimistic... they simply are running at the outer limits to charge the tablet and failure can be internal to the power unit...best case.. or worst case failure dumps overvoltage or raw AC power to the tablet.
Fortunately my failed units were of the internal power supply version.. and aside from bad smells no real damage was done.
I have successfully built charger/power units after scavenging the connector from my failed power supplies and using a minimum 1.5 amp 12v dc supply... they seem to work fine.. and keeping one handy is much more convenient than wondering where I last used it :fingers-crossed:
as always.. your mileage may vary
Hmm, that's interesting. Unfortunately this charger is from Verizon and i would surely hope that their stuff work to the correct specs. I wonder sometimes that maybe the problem could be with the contact inside the tablet. Could that have something to so with it?

I think the Motorola/Verizon chargrs are good. I think the earthing issue is with the cheap chargers from China.
When I lost my cellphone charger I had to buy a Chinese one, well, when charging it looked like possessed by the Devil itself lol! The screen started acting strange and I wasn't able to control it... Then I found my original charger and the exorcism was complete lol^2! BTW, a guy on X10 mini pro community (one of the best developers I ever met - my favorite one ) lost a cellphone with a Chinese charger, so what can I say - be careful with it!

Intermittent black screen when connected via HDMI

This is my second unit and I am still getting intermittent black screen when it is hooked up to my 46" screen. It happens regardless if I'm playing video or not. I use the same cable on my ASUS Transformer Prime and it works flawlessly. Anyone else having this issue? This is becoming quite annoying because I can't even get through a single episode.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
There is the chance that this is an HDMI specification implementation issue between the two devices. I have a Samsung HDTV and a PC connected to it via HDMI. Occasionally I will get a black screen for a second or so. In my case its so infrequent (ever several days) that this is not an issue.
Unfortunately I have seen far too many incidences where there are HDMI issues between devices. Just check out the number of people, including with a Nexus 10, which cannot get any picture between their device and a Panasonic TV. They try different HDMI cables and only sometimes will that correct the problem. They try their Nexus 10 and the same HDMI cable on a different brand HDTV and get a connmection.
I suspect that the copy protection "features" in HDMI along with inconsistent implementation of the specification are at the heart of the issue, but that is only an assumption on my part.
It turns out that it was the HDMI cable (even though it worked with another tablet). I guess it was too cheap to work with the nexus.
