[Guide] MSL without computer or calling sprint - Nexus S General

I was able to find the MSL without calling or using the MSL app.
I did an alteration to the following instructions, and was able to retrieve it after a couple attempts.
http://androidforums.com/htc-hero-sprint/117401-guide-easy-way-get-msl-without-calling-sprint-using-cmda-workshop.html
and the following thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=689470 thanks kyouko
I tweaked the instruction a little bit by presenting the msl input screen and exiting before returning to alogcat.
Instructions I used:
Fresh boot phone and await all apps/things (scripts, widgets, and misc) to load.
Launch alogcat
Clear out the log by pressing menu button and then select "clear"
Go to your dialer and enter ##DATA# or ##3282# which will bring up the DATA menu
Once the menu pops up just select "View" mode
At this point you will see a screen with 6 selections. Select "others".
Then select "work mode".
Attempt to input a random msl code. I used "000000". Of course it is incorrect. I then clicked cancel and then returned to the previous menu (work mode).
From here either press and hold the Home Key and select aLogcat if you ran it before, go to your tray and run Logcat.
After opening Logcat it will update, once it finishes press "Menu" and "Pause" the log.
Then scroll until you see a group of entries labeled "I/MSL_Checker" which should be green.
Locate the line that has "MSL result : " at the end of it (Or press Menu and Filter "MSL" )
And there you have it, your 6-digit MSL code without ever calling sprint or using a computer.
Again thanks kyouko for your instructions.

You can grab it right from the shell, getprop will list it (ril.MSL).
If you have busybox installed just getprop | grep -i ril.MSL
If busybox is not installed just getprop ril.MSL - it should be the number listed directly under. Or a simple getprop and scroll through the entire list.

The more options/choices, the merrier.
Me i use a combo of QXDM and CDMA WS. Yeah more complex, but ties into other stuff i use them for.

kyouko.. been a long time since i saw that username :O

Nice multi-post
This isn't a permanent fix... reboot and it's gone. Nice try, though
This isn't really the big issue, most people can navigate into the call settings and enter their number. The problem for most is that the number doesn't stick, you have to re-enter it after every reboot.

Does this only work on the Verizon tab?

*shrug* Doesn't do anything on the verizon brand, either.
hmm... if i recall another post with the sym but different numbers. So maybe the numbers are specific to each individuals galaxy tab. Related to serial number maybe???
Can you verify if the numbers in the SYM##.... are anywhere on the galaxy tab's serial number ...if so which part?
I'd post a video, but I don't have the rights yet. It does not match up at all with my DEC ESN or HEX. I'll look more into it though.
Close, but here's what you need to do:
Open the Samsung memo app
Click your search button
Enter **772
Then enter 000000, hit enter
You are now in program menu.
Tested on Verizon Tab.

Secret Menus

Secret Menus
EDIT: ROOT NOT NEEDED FOR THIS TO WORK.
This is a list of the codes to get into the secret menus on the SF. The list has been complied mostly by egg_head over at XDA, as well as a few others.
I shouldn't have to say it, but I will..
I nor this forum or the op is not responsible if you brick your phone.
Play with these things at your own risk.
Even if I said it's been tested by me and confirmed to work.
It's not my fault if your phone takes a crap on you.
Make a backup of your phone.
Some members of another forum where having trouble using these codes and I've discovered that you need Hidden menu enabled. To enable Hidden menu, do the following:
Go into the Dialer and enter *#83786633 then press the Home key
Go back into the phone dialer and enter *#22745927
Now a box will come up asking for the SPC code. Enter 000000
Press the Hidden menu Enable radio button.
Now you can use these codes.
The dialing code string you have to use is *##
Here are some things you can gain access to
Audio Tuning
*#28346#
Several audio tuning menus.
I've only tested the two items below:
To silence boot and shutdown audio go to Situation/BOOTSOUND and turn the values to 0. I've tested and confirmed this works.
To silence the volume key audio when turning the volume up/down go to Situation/VOLUMEKEY and turn the values to 0. I've tested and confirmed this works.
Full Bat Popup
*#3844228#
This allows you to disable the full battery pop-up.
I have tested this and it works successfully.
HwCodec
*#0002*28346#
Audio path volume controls. Most importantly, it looks like there's a sidetone adjustment.
I have not tested any of these items yet.
Shutdown
*#7594#
This enables you to shut your phone off by long-pressing the power/lock key.
No more pop-up confirmation.
I have tested this and it works successfully.
I also need to point out that this disables your slide lock screen.
Diag/Testing Mode
*#4636*1111#
GPSSetup menu
*#1472365#
The settings are set to the "fixed" values by default.
You can go into Command and then start GPS and force a satellite lock.
There's other cool info there too.
*#7594#
If your enable this, it appears to not only shutdown your phone with a long press of the power key, but it also disables your lock screen (puzzle/glass screen).
Enter GPS debug/settings application by typing *#1472365#
click "Setup" tab
click "position mode"
Click "starting mode
Enable "Cold Start"
Back out.
Other Codes (thanks Dlwicksel!):
*#1472365# - GpsSetup
Very useful tests for the GPS!!!
Setup/Position Mode/ Operation Mode: (Standalone/MSAssisted/MSBased) Starting Mode: (Cold Start/Warm Start/Hot Start) Session Type: (Single Fix/Navigation) Setup/Command allows you to test the GPS and look at the results

Updated above info. Wherever instructed to enter an SPC code, dial 000000. The differs from Sprint customers who have to enter an MSL code, which they typically don't have.
The code to change the voice codec EVRC to EVRC-B has been found. Just follow the directions below. If it dials the code you entered then you need to follow the steps in the first post to enable the secret menus.
Open the dialer then press
**772
SPC code 000000
The bottom of the screen will have buttons that are directional like a d-pad.
Press down until you see:
SVC Mode NAM1
End of BASIC NAM
Exit
Press right once you will see EXIT change to MORE
Hit enter
Press Down once and you will See
HomePage VoiceSO
EVRC
Push right button to change to EVRC-B
Hit OK Phone will reboot
I made a few calls after this and was told by everyone that the quality was so much better.
WARNING!!!!
THIS COMMAND
"##GPSCLRX# - Reset the GPS - (Verizon customers: whenever prompted for SPC enter 000000)"
FORCES THE SAMSUNG MOMENT TO LOOP RESTART FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 MINUTES UNTIL IT FINALLY REBOOTS THE PHONE.
I HAVE TESTED THIS, AND WENT TO SPRINT STORE, WHERE THEY JUST REPLACED THE PHONE
I'm not sure what it would do with the fascinate...
I have used the hidden gps menu alot, but when i tried the "##GPSCLRX# command it made the Samsung loop restart, it would reboot itself for 5 or 10 minutes before finally booting to home screen
I read on another forum (don't remember which one) that it clears the GPS then functions as i said above, the posters fix was to boot to recovery and restore phone to factory defaults.
i was unable to boot to recovery using his key sequence (volume down, power key and camera simultaneously)
I want use the secret menus, but am having issues with the first steps. I am supposed to go into the Dialer and enter *#83786633 then home, then after entering *#22745927 do I do something else bc nothing cues me to enter SPC code??
Thanks!
Here is what you do. You enter the first code, then go home. Back to the dialer and delete the first code then enter the second. after that a screen pops up asking for the password or whatever it is then enter 000000. after that start entering whatever codes you want. It confused me too at first.
On android 2.2, there is listing for mms provisioning in ##DATA#. It asks for the lock code. I tried the SPC but it does not work. I also tried other possible lock codes. What could be the lock code?
##DATA#
MMS provisioning Lock Code = 500667
Hey guys, the hidden menues don't really work after 2.2. I remembered that TSM parts in the COMRom had it already accessable though.
You can also read this link. I have not verified it yet but looks to take care of your full battery pop up issue.

Disable Lock Screen
Hey I was wondering if you were able to get this to work...I upgraded the software the other morning and now no app bypasses the lock screen...I use NoLED as well, and if I can get the lock disabled and be able to use NoLED I would be golden, for some reason that whole lock thing just pisses me off ;o)
I went to the dialer punched in the codes to unhide the menu, I assume all I have to do is hit send? Didnt work... am I missing something?

Use at your own risk and backup your phone first, then you can try the below which worked for me.
To disable it without using an app or rooting your phone, you can enable the Hidden menu by doing the following:
Go into the Phone dialer and enter *#83786633
Press the Home key
Go back into the phone dialer and remove the previous numbers
Enter *#22745927
A menu box will prompt for the SPC code. Enter: 000000
Press the Hidden Menu Enable radio button.
Now you can use the below codes to do the following:
Disable Full Bat Popup:
*#3844228#
This allows you to disable the full battery pop-up.
Enable quick Shutdown and disable swipe screen:
*#7594#
Disables your slide lock screen completely.
This enables you to shut your phone off by long-pressing the power/lock key.
By-passing the pop-up confirmation and mode selection.
Again, do so at your own risk... Done this twice successfully on 2 separate Fascinate phones.
Why? There are threads and websites and blogs listing this stuff already. Pointless post.

I usually don't say anything against ANYONE, but if you google this stuff you will find out that... this is the same post as many others, and I mean identicle.. as in copy and pasted from there to here.
I wanted to try this out for the gps, however its not working for me. Does this work for CM7 or just TW? I cant seem to access hidden menus.
I can only access *#*#4636#*#*, no others?
I can only access *#*#4636#*#*, no others?
You have hit *#22745927 then enter 000000 in the SPC code to enable the hidden menu's
I gather the codes up and put them in one thread I thought might make it easier on the ones looking for them if you got a problem with don't open the thread!!!!
No dice on any key combo I've tried. I found in another forum for different phone that cm7 doesn't work with these codes.

LG hidden Settings menus

Just thought I would cross post here, but I found some hidden settings that I didn't see elsewhere, other than the Access Lock (AppOps)
Here's the Reddit post I made:
https://www.reddit.com/r/lgg4/comments/3em28o/two_hidden_setting_menus/
EDIT:
http://i.imgur.com/c5DYfg0.png
I went through and tested a bunch of settings and these are what I came up with. This list isn't exhaustive though, as I left out the screen display mentioned in comments as it doesn't seem to work, and I also left out ones related to hardware and capacitive buttons we don't have.
There is also a couple redundant ones there. The Usage Activity Monitors are kind of nifty.
The one I find the most interesting is:
com.android.settings.Settings$ScreenCaptureAreaActivity
As described below, lets you choose to capture the status bar and navigation buttons in your screenshots. Very nifty.
---ORIGINAL POST---
Howdy.
I noticed there's a method for getting Access Lock (AppOps) without root by making a shortcut. (I used QuickShortcutMaker from Play Store, but you may be able to do it with an alternative launcher like Nova)
While I was doing that I fiddled with a few other things I found and I came out with two other hidden setting menus. Though not mind-blowing, I found one of them to be a little useful.
First one is under Settings -> One-Handed Operation. Seems that was available on the G3 but removed by LG for this model. I don't find it too useful as I use knock codes so the pin one doesn't matter, and the dialler option can be accessed in the dialler itself.
The second one, which I find a little more useful, is the Screenshot Settings. It's under Settings -> Screen capture area. When you access this menu you can decide if you want your screencaps to include the navigation buttons and status bar (default), or not. It's a lot nicer taking shots without those areas, so a pretty neat little feature.
Cheers

To anyone that's looking for the hidden menu's on these things and having no luck via google, and is unable to launch the hidden menu's due to permission errors and force closes, I figured them out.
Enter the code you want into the dialer. Substitute any xxx's by the model number. For VS986 that would be 986. If asked for a service code enter six zeros. That's "000000".

For the H812, I found that many of the previously posted hidden setting codes did nothing when I punched them into the dialer. I was also unable to launch the hidden menus by creating shortcuts, I kept getting an error that the com.lge.permission.LGHIDDEN permission was required.
In the end, I was able to open the hidden settings menus by using this command in a shell with root access:
am start -a android.intent.action.MAIN -n com.lge.hiddenmenu/className (for example: com.lge.hiddenmenu/.HiddenMenu)
I used the Activity Launcher app to get a list of all the com.lge.hiddenmenu classes. There wasn't much in any of them that I found very useful, but it was fun looking.

Since the Permission thing might be a common problem, I built Root capability into ActivityLauncher. ActivityLauncher will now try without root, and if it fails, it will try the root console command.

SOLVED how can i tell if my g900p is domestic unlocked?

hit the upper right menu button, select key input, and type a capital Q, then ok. then menu again, key input type in 4 zeros "0000" and hit ok. Menu again and hit the back selection, menu again and hit the back selection. It can take up to 30 seconds for it to give you the next menu and you may need to repeat that process, but once the menu is up, make the following selections.
[1] Protocol State
[5] Sim Information
[3] Check NV
the bottom 2 lines should read as follows
