[APP] Usb tethering gingerbread - Milestone 2 General

Hi,
As the usb tethering is now available thanks to the gingerleak kernel , and in the ms2ginger rom there is a motousbtethering application that doesn't work at all , i decided to bring this to our MS2.
This my first app, it is a fork of the well known android wired tether v1.4.
Now it work with the milestone2 , the moto guys don't things like everyone !
Enjoy !!

Thanks for the app.
BTW., Is there any solution to have something like on HTC where you can tether-back from your computer to your phone? The opposite of typical tethering.

Yes i think it is not so hard! In reverse tethering, all the configuration, iptables and dhcp server must be done properly on the pc! It is just assigning the phone an adress on usb interface and a good gateway!

Can you build a working wifi tether?
Because after I updated to GB and then flashed MIUI, wifi tether does not work with any app...

I can dig it, but i'm on ms2ginger, and the wifi tether by the parameter menu works well! I'll install android_wifi_tether and see why it might not work !

It would be easy if I had any experience in Linux systems and programming.

Ok but, i don't know how to do the same in windows ! Once the phone is in reverse tether state , the app won't configure the computer for you. i don't know you can configure easily in windows.

There are some guides of how to do this on an iPod/iPhone, it might work for us.
BTW, tether works, but people connected don't get network access.

It doesn't work on MIUI from WajkIUI...

Do you have the good kernel ? You must have the gingerbread kernel with rndis support ! If the app said nothing about kernel incompatibility, then try the android_tether_usb app , google it ! If it doesn't work either, do a adb shell and post your netcfg result, ip route result here.

Hi , i'll do some test with wifi tether , i advise you this app :
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
with the cdma_droidx profile ! and for me it works.
If not you'll need to give some kernel info .

Oh, I forgot to mention, that the app says that the kernel isn't compatible...

Ok, i guess that. It seems to me , the MIUM rom is based on a froyo kernel, and sadly the motorola kernel doesn't include the rndis protocol. You have no chance to get tether usb work on that kernel... i tried since feb !

That's not true, I survived some weeks using my phone as a Wi-Fi USB Adapter with PDANet when we didn't even had a real Rom for Milestone 2. Is there a difference from this to tether?

Yes it's true ! I talk about usb tethering , not wifi ! Wifi is not exactly the same , and the app i advise you should work ! Tere are other tether method that use vpn method port redirection, so you don't need to be root .
Furthermore , in the 2.2 moto roms, they have the hotspot 3G app which does wifi tether without problem (in france ) .

[Q] X8 can be worked as Wifi router or not?

Would like to ask if anyone install and work with the wifi router app successfully in X8 after rooting the official Android 2.1 ROM? I am planning to buy it, see if anyone has tried it before or not. Thanks a lot!
Wifi is pretty weak on X8. Processing signal and forwarding it it's too much for a small phone like this.
(I didn't find any wifi router software)
Thanks for your feedback, because one of my plan is using it as wifi hotspot for other device to connect to internet~
Barnacle works flawlessly in mine! You'll need it rooted of course.
I guess it's sharing 3g internet over wi-fi, right? I don;t have it and doesn't work.
or just can use wifi tethering http://www.appbrain.com/app/tethering/com.guardam.Tethering

Will this work on unrooted 2.1?
@^
No.....

Is it true no wireless tether with gb build

Anyone able to confirm this? If that's the case ill probably stick to my rooted froyo...the tether is just too convenient at times...
Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
You can tether, however the 3G wireless hotspot no longer works, I do believe Wireless Tether still works however
Didnt work for me... Tried using code.android wifi tether for root users yesterday and it did not work.
Think the application has to be updated.

Contact the developer. I use usb tethering through easytether, and it works perfectly
I had two tether apps, both failed under .595...depressing.
Someone inboxed me that the older version of the tether app works under GB, but I haven't tried looking for it. I will probably take JMoney47's advice and use easytether since he says it works.

Are you talking about the paid built in 3G Hotspot? That's working fine for me. Also one thing I like is how Motorola actually kept the code in for USB tethering now as well. I like this because now I don't have to worry about VZAccess manager which never supported the X - I just use my Mobile Hotspot/USB Tether 2GB plan with the built in USB Tether.
If your talking about rooted wireless tether, my buddy said he had issues with it. But the "official" one works.
wifi tether
I found this download and i am using my wifi tether as we speak. The rom on my droid x is ginger ale //code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/detail?name=wifi_tether_v3_0-pre14.apk&can=2&q=[/url] you can find it here. If you're trying to wifi tether, check out this thread for info on how to update the Iconia to allow for ad-hoc wifi network support.
Basically you backup the current wpa_supplicant file, replace it with a downloaded/updated copy, fix permissions on the new file, reboot.
<edit>Bah ya beat me to it ;P
This thread might be of use to you depending on how you're tethering:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056188&page=3
I'm not much help with all that as I have no trouble tethering my A500 to my HTC Evo 4G via bluetooth or wifi tether. Two wifi tether apps were included in Myn's Warm 2.2 ROM that I have on my Evo. I was surprised to see so many people having tethering issues.
Edit: Beat 2x to the punch! Man, you guys are fast! Haha.
My mobile phone is Sony X2 with Winmo 6.5.3 version. I need tethering with Acer. How to do that?

WinMo should have an option to turn on Bluetooth Dial Up Networking (DUN), turn that on, then pair the phone to your tablet and you should see a "Tethering" option show up on the tablet in the Bluetooth settings for the pairing. Check out this post (sorry, on a diff. site) but skip down to step 9 (as 1-8 cover Android phone tethering.) The pictorial was inspired/derived from this post here on XDA.
Note: you may have to have a tethering plan active on your phone service for this to fully work. I'm a bit fuzzy on this, it's been 2 years since I had my Samsung WinMo phone.

<edit2>Gah, found the XDA post that started it, attributed right now
If I paired succeed A500 with Sony X2 (support 3G) meaning I can access Internet through via 3G from network provider?

If the phone supports bluetooth or wifi tether and your network provider hasn't blocked it, yes. Back when I had my WinMo phone I had to pay for a tethering plan, which I stopped after a couple months and only turned back on when I had to for work (& billed work for the extra $$)
Yesterday, I came to mobile store and try this function. As you introduced above, I turned on Bluetooth and had paired my X2 Winmo phone with A500 but I could not find Tethering option on A500. Although I tried and work find with my Acer laptop via PAN wire or PAN Bluetooth meaning my network provider support fully tethering. I wonder A500 can not tethering with Winmo phone or I misses complete steps.
I any idea for me?

Cm7 and tethering...

Hey all, just updated to cm7 (jt, you are my hero). I was wondering what I need to download for tethering. I tried using the old wifi_tether app I had from froyo and what not but it does not seem to be working. Any ideas?

Barnacle works if all you need is ad hoc (tethering a windows machine), but I haven't found anything that will do access point.
You don't need to download anything... it's built in. Go to: Settings --> Wireless and networks --> Tethering and portable hotspot

Yes, it's there, but doesn't work on my phone. Have you successfully tethered with it?
I use barnacle as well and it works great on my laptop running windows 7 and I have never had any issues with wireless devices and ad-hoc I let friends from work pull from my wifi all the time, maybe I'm just one of the lucky ones

I can verify that my computer at least recognizes the portable hotspot but I did not try to connect to it. Will try tomorrow and will report back.

The issue arises if you're trying to tether an android tablet. They won't use ad hoc out of the box.

Android WIFI Tether should works great for me. I am able to do the wpasuplicant authentication again as well. This app is no longer in the android market so you will have to download direct from the source. There is an updated beta version which does work in CM7 7/17 release.
http://code.google.com/p/android-wi...tail?name=wifi_tether_v3_1-beta2.apk&can=2&q=
No offense, but I feel Barnacle is crap. It is one of the only WIFI tether apps that is unable to do WPA authentication. WEP can be cracked in under 5 minutes with open source tools which leaves you vulnerable to man in the middle attacks. The CM7 hotspot even does WPA.

haha Connectify continuously made my computer crash. I had to uninstall it in Safe Mode. Make sure that the network sharing adapter is the one with the internet connection and the hosting adapter has Wifi compatibility. I think the settings can be found when right-clicking on the Connectify icon on the Taskbar.

Have you had this problem in multiple ROMs? You can maybe re-install Connectify and try.
WOOT! 400th post
Actually don't think ROMS are the problems! If no phone gets the signal it cause of something isn't it? I think swift can but IDk

I don't use Connectifi cause it was not working well for me (driver problems etc.) so I searched for something similar and found Maryfi. This tool works nicely and is pretty easy to use.
Gonna try it then! Hope it works, u think it gives internet to the phone?
Well, im actually using Pebe's 2.3.7 v5.1 rom, and it detects conetifity and works fine! Cool! thanks anyways!
