[Q] Atrix Virgin mobile fr rom compatibility? - Atrix 4G General

Hi guys, I will receive my atrix thuesday.
It is my third android device. (htc hero > milestone > atrix)
I have already rooted many devices.
As virgin mobile fr just began to sell the atrix there isn't really stock roms available so I would like to know if some roms are really compatible for gsm network.
1) I am aware there is a prebeta 3 for cyanogenmod 7 > Does it support gsm network?
2) Same about Alien rom > does it support gsm network?
3) Beside the gsm or cdma network issues is there any difference between the at&t device and the european one (I was used to milestone/droid differences)
4) No need to flash a sbf as the atrix will be brand new and probably updated to 2.3 ? (So my only concern will be to input the fastboot oem unlock command)
5) I read that some people have to apply ram fix to use all the 1 gb ram > Is it only a concern for orange users?
6) Is there radio updates to flash or bootloader ones ?
7) Any tip for compatible bluetooth keyboard ?
Free internets for help !
Thank you !

bumpy-bump

daily bump
Come on guys

1,2) Yes, all Atrix on the world are GSM
3) They mostly differ on memory layout ("tegrapart"), that's why you need to use a "ram fix" on some ROMs (see 5)
4) I doubt it will come unlockable from the factory, you might need pudding. Still, I suppose you can try fastboot oem unlocking, I guess it will simply say something like 'not supported'.
5) If your Atrix is not from AT&T, it will probably concern you.
6) Yes, there are some radio updates. As well as the unlockable bootloader if you need it. Read carefully and do not flash stuff without reading the posts 10 times at least and double checking what you're going to flash

Thank you very much !
A couple of hours and I will be able to try it out ^^'

[Q] Which Galaxy S 4 should I get?

I'm unfamiliar with Samsung phones (never had one), and I'm looking at getting a used/mint Galaxy S 4 for my wife. Here are the requirements:
1. SIM unlocked. I need to be able to use it on AT&T and T-Mobile networks in the US, and also other international carriers as need be when traveling, without a problem.
2. I need to have root access. Some apps that need to be installed on this phone requires root. It's not necessary to have the capability to flash custom ROM, etc. so stock ROM (or any ROM, for that matter, as long as it's stable) is fine. I just need root.
3. It has to have at least 4.3, or if possible 4.4.2. OTA capability for further update (if there will be any) is a good bonus but not required.
I likely won't be modifying this phone (flashing ROM/mods/etc.) after I set it up the first time. I'll set it up, give it to her, and forget about it.
So, which version of GS4 should I look for in ebay/swappa (and if there are any firmware requirements for easy rooting)? I'm going to be using it almost solely on a GSM-based network (currently a T-Mobile MVNO, but may switch to an AT&T MVNO soon) so AT&T version seems like an obvious choice, but I've heard that this model is a pain to SIM unlock (is it true?), while Verizon version is factory unlocked completely out of the box, and will work without a problem on AT&T or T-Mobile (and obviously overseas as well).
Can anyone give me any suggestion?

Yeah I deserve that. I basically set myself up to get this answer. This is what I get for not being clear enough from the get go. Doh.
Obviously the international unlocked version is the most ideal, because there's no potential for headaches as I explained above. I of course knew this.
And yes, there are several of them available at Swappa, but they are all (understandably) much more expensive (some more than 150%) compared to the local version.
So, I guess my real question is whether I should get AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon version for my purposes above.
I also just examined the title of this subforum and realized that I may not be asking this on the right place. So, sorry about that. I'll switch over to the correct forum and ask this again. Thanks for answering!

Help quick guide needed :(

Hi everyone here on xda Note 3 verizon forum,
its been a long time since I have been here, I remember few things, my last device was S3 after 3 years now I have recently bought Note 3 Verizon version but I doesnt live in the U.S. So I need to ask few steps,
1. What I have to do in order to run on LTE because 4g is not working, whenever I try connect on LTE/CDMA the network signals disappears so I have to be on Global or GSM/UMTS in order to use the network properly.
2. What things I needed ? Like, how can i backup my this stock rom ? and do I have I have to go on stock really ? And from where I can start simply ?
3. Please tell me how to root ? and how to get on proper recovery, and later I have to install the custom ROMS too
4. Can i get rid of this [ Using non-Verizon SIM card bar ] ?
5. Last, I know XDA from a very long time, there are lot of members who can guide me easily:fingers-crossed:

S7edge SM-G9350-NO 4G DATA**I WILL DONATE $50-$100 TO WHOEVER GIVES ME THE SOLUTION**

The exact model is Samsung Galaxy S7 edge SM-G9350 64 GB GOLD PLATINUM
First I want to get this off my chest. I registered this week (I used XDA before like 7 or 8 years ago in high school when I use to flash custom ROMS on windows mobile phones-good times hehe)because I am frustrated since I bought an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S7 edge from a stranger using craigslist on Sunday night. The ad said it was T-mobile Unlocked and in brand new condition with the box and original accessories and it had some pictures. So why not buy it cheap for since I'm using a T-mobile LG-K7 with a cracked screen, right?WRONG!! The phone is working fine except I am only getting EDGE data!!! I found out that it is a chinese variant and it works fine with my T-mobile sim card here in the U.S.A except it can't connect to 4G and that is probably why the shady guy sold the phone cheap to let it become someone else problem I also saw 1 or 2 of these models in the box as well and he said a friend gave it to him and he is just selling it(B.S.) I forgot craigslist had scammer like 40% of the transactions lol, I use to meet these types of people in middle and high school when I bought and sold my used or old T-mobile phones though I never scammed or conned any one.I remember some people would act shady or too nice for no reason, probably cause they stole the phone and were making 100% profit off me.This same guy is one of them.
ANYWAYS THANK YOU FOR READING MY RANT---- NOW ON TO THE POINT OF FIXING THE DATA ISSUE
I am getting unlimited 4G on my k7 and everyone else on our plan is using unlimited 4g just fine.Samsung rep at best buy said its legit and its an international chinese variant and to look around on here to fix the issue. He told me something about the band and t-mobile towers to pick up the frequency. He said I got a really good deal if I can 4g on there. If not than re-sell it and make it someone elses problem. I looked all around google the past few days an either no one has this problem or if they do than the solution doesn't work on my phone.
Here is what I tried so far:
A) T-mobile reset the network connection via tech support
B) I factory reset the phone numerous times
C)I got the right APN settings set on the phone to be connected to nearest towers, a store rep did it for me to make sure.
D) I replaced and used another activated T-mobile sim card
E) I download some apps I saw on here to check LTE signal etc and its running very slow edge
*********I am on the sim status screen and right now as I'm typing this the signal strength is
-61 dBm 26 asu, cellular network type is EDGE,NETWORK is T-mobile, Service state is In service,Roaming is not roaming, cellular network state is disconnected*******
------I hope someone can pick up information off of that and maybe I could change some settings
E) I dialed *#*#4636#*#* and got to a screen to allow me to check phone information, battery information, usage statistics,wi-fi information-under phone information there are options to set preferred network types to: WCGMA,GSM, GSM auto(PRL), CDMA auto(PRL),CDMA only,EvDo only,GSM/CDMA auto(PRL),LTE/CDMA auto(PRL),LTE/GSM(PRL),CDMA auto(PRL),LTE only,Unknown. It will only stay on up to GSM auto(PRL)
....also when I press menu on this screen there is an option to enable data connection and when I click it,it won't stay,it just keeps saying enable data connection
F)I googled what bands this model and it is able to use and it has the capability to be used on T-mobile bands
What else can I do get the data working to 4G right now? The phone is running Android 6.0.1 and won't update to Nouget over the air. I want to root the phone and see if I can install a custom Nouget rom( since the samsung guy said the phone will brick if I try to install the T-mobile Nouget rom or I can't even do it since its an international variant-by the way I am able to have google services on here like play store, etc. so I don't know if that makes a difference to what variant and rom it is because I heard one or the other of hong kong or open china variants for this phone is better and can't use google play)and maybe I am able to connect to 4G data.
Like the title of this post says, I promise I will back up my donation I really don't want to sell the phone unless I have to because I will not get a better deal anywhere ever again for the latest high end phone from a manufacturer

you have to flash the correct CSC this will fix your 4G if you buy an device from a other country than is it possible that you get this problem but when you flash the correct CSC you will get 4G i helped so much people with this problem with a S7 device, i think this your solution
if this fix works for you just keep your money we are developers not for paying
Maybe you should post this in the T-Mobile section.
In my idea this should have 4G data on T-Mobile US out of the box as the required LTE bands are supported by the G9350. Did you check the APN settings? (VoLTE and WiFi-Calling may or will not work without t-mo-rom but that's another topic)
Also you should be fine to flash a T-Mobile US rom as both have Snapdragon SoC. You don't need root to flash an official rom.
Out of curiosity: what about 3G?

Thank you so much!!! People have actually asked through pm to donate to bitcoin first before helping me and here you are helping me first by the way.
I am going to find the correct CSC, what does that stand for? Can I flash a T-mobile 7.0 Nougat rom on my Galaxy SM-9350 first that the person before you replied about(its the link)?? I want to do both to have T-mobile settings and to use the 4G although the 4G is a thousand times more important. If I can do this than I am a happy man!
Why is there a boot loader and modem link attached to every post containing a ROM download? Does that need to be downloaded first, and what are the next steps,if so? I know these are questions I need to search about they are all confusing and mumbled and jumbled up. Even though I registered this week for help I was a member here like 8-9 years ago in high school when I was flashing custom ROMS on Windows mobile phones(good times hehe) but it got addictive, took a lot of my time from studying, and I totally forgot how do things.

Hey I made a new thread today in Q&A for GS7. The APN settings were put in by a T-mobile store associate and it still didn't work. I don't care about VoLTE/Wifi-Calling although I noticed some people on here are worred about that-its just something I never use.
Are you sure I don't need root to flash an official ROM?The Samsung Galaxy guy at Best Buy said it would brick if I used an official ROM because the phone is an international variant. If I can use an official ROM,I can't get Nougut OTA via T-mobile anyway as my phone keeps saying it is updated even though it is 6.0.1. How do I get the offical ROM manually on the computer? Samsung Smart Switch isn't even recognizing my device when it is connected and Smart Switch on my phone looks like it is only suppose to be used to receive files from another phone? I have the link for a T-mobile 7.0 ROM from a post on here that he used on the same exact model I don't know if I am suppose to root the device first or not yet since it looks custom made.
Thank You for helping me out it means a lot you guys are the best! I can already see myself on here a lot in the future doing stuff different android phones like I 8 or 9 years ago in high school on windows mobile phones.

The only data I am getting is EDGE
So, I guess something is wrong.
You can try flashing the designated firmware for this device first and see if this helps. To get the right one (who knows what all was tampered with) use best the Phone Info tool.
I've had this exact issue before, with a Nexus 5 that I bought from Telus, I am with Telus, it ended up being I had to go buy and register a new SIM card, then it was fine, might not be a solution for you but Worth a try,
Actually get a SIM card from your provider, have them register it in the store

1) Download this https://dl.twrp.me/hero2lte/twrp-3.1.0-0-hero2lte.img.tar.html and WAIT.
2) Download superman ROM: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=817550096634750162
I choosed this rom cause it got nougat bootloader and kernel. Also download CSC chooser zip: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=745425885120710484
3) Install twrp via ODIN and uncheck auto reset in odin. Then press power + home + volup to go to recovery. Put the superman rom and CSC chooser zip files on Sd card and put back in phone.
4) Install Superman rom,in aroma pick superstock kernel 'samsung pay and knox work' and install/update everything especially the bootloader. In mods stick to stock as possible.
5) Install the CSC zip file and choose t-mobile USA.
6) reboot and pray everything works LOL

Nice, I like what you have! My model is different so I don't know if the ROM will work though I'm almost finished downloading it at the moment. Instructions 3 and 4 is confusing. Don't I need to put superman ROM and CSC file on sd card while the phone is ON?And am I suppose to transfer it on there via usb cable or can I also do it via google drive than open in up phone gmail and put it on sd card? Also do I need to extract the CSC file first to my computer desktop? That file takes forever to extract! Is instruction 4 suppose to be while in recovery mode? Also is it normal for my phone to show "no command" while in recovery mode?
Thank you ?
The rom will work because your phone is exynos based. It got a different model number because it's for Chinese markets. Put the rom on the SD card using whatever method, just do it before flashing the recovery, because your phone may not boot after the recovery to the stock firmware because Samsung has put some crap to prevent using custom firmware. I forgot to say that also before doing anything go to device info - > software - > and press build number several times to enable developer options then back to settings and go to developer options and enable OEM unlocking.
Yes, commands 4 are made in recovery. Install - > pick the zip file and install.
All zip files aren't extracted! The recovery uses the zip file as it is.
Good luck

Were you able to flash the U.S. T-mobile ROM onto SM-9350?
The official firmware can be found on https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G935T/
I found it yesterday but their free server is under maintenance so he will have to pay to just download a firmware file.
I don't know why don't samsung provide them for free on their site!

Bootloader unlocked, can I use any rom?

So Ive had this Verizon Note 3 since day one. Finally unlocked my bootloader... What are the rules on what I can and can't do now. Can I install any Android rom? Can I only install note 3 roms from any carrier... Can I install only Verizon note 3 roms? Or is it a hybrid... I can install any rom if I replace the firmware and or modem.
I really want something on 7.1 but I'd rather take 6 and have something custom... Fast and responsive.
Thanks community.
You are in luck. :crying:
There's hardly anything to choose from; maybe 3 or 4 ROMs and about the same number of kernels.
AFAIK, there are no Nougat ROMs and only one Marshmallow ROM (AryaMod6.6).
Normally, when a dev ships a "ROM", there are two important pieces: the /system image (what some folks call "the ROM"), and the boot image. The boot image is what some folks erroneously call "the kernel"; but it is really a combination of kernel + ramdisk. The ramdisk has all the scripts in it that the "init" process reads to start up all the low-level daemons and services... as well as the Android UI as well.
The kernel is very tightly tied to the specific hardware in a given handset - both the processor/gpu and all the sensors/leds/peripherals.
So that's the reason you can't just flash any old ROM. In the least bad case, your device wouldn't boot; in the worst bad case the kernel would boot up far enough go off in the weeds and possibly damage some of your hardware.
You might be tempted to think "we'll, what if I find a boot image for the "hltevzw" SM-N900V device... can I flash that after I have flashed 'any old Android ROM'? Won't that take care of things?"
Well, not really. The system library binaries in /system are possibly compiled with instruction-set optimumization tweaks that are only supported by specific CPU and GPU hardware chips. Moreover, other peripheral chips such as GPS have unique "downloadable" vendor firmware in the system image... so again, there's the issue of hardware dependencies of the /system image.
Beyond that, there's carrier-specific "setup and activation" software that differs between ROMs, so even using ROMs that are from a different carrier's version of the exact same handset hardware might not work fully - specifically in the telephony function areas. Everything else might work fine though. For instance if you wanted to use the device as a WiFi-only unit for kid's games etc.
Note BTW that the "International" Note 3 GSM phones are not the same hardware - they use an Exynos processor.
good luck in your quest
Thanks
That was very helpful... Looks like Araya is my best bet. I'll leave jasmine rom to try it.
I was hoping that I could get another note 3 rom on this forum and flash the CDMA modem for networking... But doesn't seem like that's an option.
If I'm still stuck to Verizon Note 3 rom... What is the purpose or benefit of unlocking the bootloader... Was that really just to avoid Odin so I can flash my couple rom choices easier?
I appreciate your time!

I might have very slightly overstated the case for pessimism. There is a "consolidated" Verizon Note 3 Forum which is meant for devs to provide development tools and even ROMs that could potentially be used on devices from more than one carrier. But the world being organized the way it is, that means that you are more likely to find multi-carrier GSM ROMs over there than multi-carrier ROMS which support GSM and oh by the way CDMA and LTE as well.
If you want to fool around over there, I recommend that you proceed with great caution to make sure that the ROMs you choose specifically target Qualcomm MSM8974AB Note 3 handsets, and you should read the developer notes very carefully to see whether you need to flash an "hltevzw" kernel separately. If the dev does not mention "supports hltevzw" or "supports N900V" (for example here) you might be taking chances with your hardware.
I suppose it is possible that the radios are 100% "software defined" in the sense of which bands they can support. Maybe you can get what you want by simply flashing the desired carrier's "modem" firmware, but I have never done that so I can't say for certain whether that works or you are risking a brick (or hardware damage) by doing that. I simply don't know (e.g.) if the chips and antennas in a T-mo version of the Note 3 are identical or different from a Verizon Note 3's hardware

Well, for one - having a custom recovery allows you to make backups - even if you never change ROMs
People don't think of backups as being "sexy", but they allow you something which is really valuable: freedom to mess around and experiment with the knowledge that "if something goes wrong, I'll just restore the backup".
And with Odin, you only had the choice of Stock Roms. Now you have a few more.
cheers
Yes you can install Any rom for note3
Here is my experience with installing roms on note 3 after unlock bootloader
you should Flash twrp-2.8.7.0-hlte-4.4.img by ODIN for the hlte roms or twrp-2.8.7.0-hltevzw-4.4.img if you looking to flash verizon roms ,
im on Phronesis Rom N7 now and i tryed many roms
AryaMod N7 & S7 Edge
MagMa-NX from NXT TEAM
Resurrection Remix Nougat 7.1.1
CM 13 ROM 6.0.1 for Trader418
Purify CM13 6.0.1 ( the best CM13 till now )
and more ...
i have only one problem that i cant get LTE in mobile network always on H+
i tryed to add screenshot but i couldn't its my firist reply
@ALPHA85
Pretty informative first post - thanks, and welcome aboard!
Are you on a Verizon SIM? If not, have you been flashing modems from other Note3 devices?
Just curious; I don't have much experience with radio issues or carrier activation issues. Trying to port a carrier-specific ROM elsewhere (esp starting from a VZW ROM) looks like a massive pile of interlocking software dependencies, though. My respect to anyone who can succeed at it.
Feel free to write a brief summary about what's broken in each - any of them have NFC working? I was on CM13 (trader418) for a long time and would have been happy to stay there were it not for all the GPS issues.
Thank you ,
i dont use Verizon SIM becouse im from egypt, i bought my verizon note 3 by wrong , when i bought it i saw N9005 under the battery and in the boot screen also inside the rom ,it was lollipop 5.0 ,but sinse i did factory rest i surprised it change to N900V even the imei changed , till now i cant understand how they flashed N9005 rom for N900V device with locked bootloader
i'm on OF1 bootloader unlocked and i flashed PL1 Modem i thought maybe it help me to get LTE but still the same H+
about NFC i really didn't try it at all , i always disable it by titanium pro

When you first got it, did it appear to have a Verizon ROM on it? (For instance, the Verizon splash screen?) Or some other carrier's logo?
Actually, that cleared something up for me. Well, except for the part about the IMEI changing
Apparently there were both LTE and GSM models of the "Note 3" that were sold in international markets. I understand the LTE version was originally sold in China, but the GSM model is more common?
The SM-N9005 is an LTE phone (I don't know about CDMA) with the Qualcomm MSM8974 processor
and the N9000 is the GSM model with an Exynos 5420 processor
So that probably explains the binary compatibility of the SM-N900V and the SM-N9005 - same processor, and both phones were designed for LTE service.
But your report should give @cyberoptics a little less pessimistic view of things; thank you for that.
But I wouldn't go so far as to say you can flash ANY Note 3 ROM. Even though both the Exynos and Qualcomm processors use ARM cores, they are fairly different - the Exynos has 8 cores, half of which are Cortex-A15, and the MSM8974 has only four cores which are Krait- something or other. I think they are not quite compatible. Note that in theory, ARM code that was compiled to earlier standards (e.g. thumb, armv5) would certainly work on both devices - but if they compiled ALL the code in ROM libraries that way they would be giving up a lot of performance on either device. So.... to the extent that they target processor specifics for either Cortex-A15 or Krait, they will be incompatible.
cheers.

bftb0 I just wanted to thank you once again for your consistently helpful, verbose posts about the N900V. I've been using CM13 thinking it was the best thing going, when, as nice as it was at the time, it doesn't hold water compared to AyraMod, which I switched to yesterday after reading this thread.
Now my GPS won't take me sailing past Easter Island when en route to a noon meeting downtown. Maybe Google Cardboard will even work, now that NFC appears to.
Thanks again, and please don't ever bore of being a great and helpful resource, we need you!

Phone not fully working ( No mobile data ) , Xiaomi Recommend a Re-flash

Hello Techies
On Christmas Day My Redmi 3S Prime gave up the ghost , the Mobile radio refuses to latch onto a 4G Network and can only reliably make a call when a GSM network is selected . This seems a pretty common bug , though I have scoured the solutions ( which seem to work for others ) ; swapping to multiple sims/providers , manually setting APM and Factory Reset , though the phone barely connects to 2G/ Edge Technology . This is a huge inconvenience as I use the phone for both business and personal life - not being able to use it is a royal pain in the ass .
I have contacted Xiaomi who recommend flashing to the official developer ROM Version: 7.12.21 (MIUI9) . I currently have latest MUI Global ROM (8.5) I have tried updating (downgrading ) to an earlier build (8.1) - using the 'upgrade' app on the phone , however this would not work , the device said it could not update to an earlier build . However I will try the developer ROM next , which I guess should work ?
The other option was the fastboot upgrade , which allegedly allows the phone to downgrade to a previous version ( I wanted a stable ROM , I dont really need Dev ROM ) . However the instructions are extremely vague and were written in a different environment (for earlier MUI builds and WIndows 7 ) . When following the official 'Fastboot' flash guide , it transpired that 'download mode' did not work with MUI 8.5 - so it seems the guide is irrelevant
Bottom line currently I am lost on what to do next . I will try the DEV ROM and see how that goes I guess .
After some reading , I am of the understanding that my Bootloader is locked ? I had purchased the phone with the official Global MUI rom installed and have only updated it with OTA official updates previously . I did not want to unlock the bootloader as my banking app (Barclays ) will not install on unlocked devices. I understand unlocking the bootloader also roots the phone .

Try flashing the phone in edl mode. I don't think it needs bootloader to be unlocked to do that.
For procedure you can refer Google
Update:
I did manage to update to MUI global 7.12.21 Beta using the Stock updater app . However this did not fix the issue , the phone still connects just with GSM and Edge Networks . I tried all of the existing configuration solutions after the update , which also did not resolve the issue .
I also contacted the Xiaomi Outlet on Aliexpress , they suggest that I unlock the bootloader , as per the email they had sent me
Thanks for telling us the troubles you met. Do not worry. We are here to help you.

2. Reset the phone (Please copy your data before you doing this step)
3 download the Develop ROM of your cellphone from http://en.miui.com/download.html, and then transfer this ROM pack the folder ‘downloaded_rom’, then go to Updater APP click the button on the right top corner then choose option “Choose Update Package”, click the develop ROM you just download and wait for the system update succeed
4. If the 2 suggestions above can’t fix the problem, please unlock the phone and then flash it.

My gut feeling is that this is a hardware issue , it seems as though the radio reciever has burned out . I have already flashed with the native app . Is it worth trying to unlock the bootloader and reflash another rom ?
I dont want to waste any more time on this , any suggestions or thoughts on this are appreciated
So the reseller is asking me to unlock the phone though the Mii Unlock App , then flash it .
How can this make the 4G radio come to life ?

If you really feel it's a hardware issue, then it's recommended to claim the warranty or replace. I'd suggest you not to go with bootloader unlocking at this stage

Hello
OK I made some progress , I changed the sim Card to an O2 Network Sim which works perfectly . I had tried exhausted all other practicable solution given including the above . This doesn't explain why the phone stopped working with all EE network providers ( tried Virgin , EE, Plusnet ) .

How can I find out which bands a sim card provider is using ( Live Information ) . I have tried to research this but bands have changed over the years , so not sure which provider is using which band . I wanted to determine which bands the phone will currently work on .
