My phone takes.forever to boot and gets bad battery life. - Droid X General

My Droid X with Justice v0.1 ROM has been getting terrible battery life for a long time. I've been having to charge it multiple times a day. Also, my phone takes around 3-5 minutes to boot up. It has been doing it since I was running the Liberty GB nightlies. I don't overclock my phone unless I'm playing a big game, so that's temporary. I have like 145 apps installed on my phone. Any help is appreciated. I can answer any other questions also. Thanks.

I would recommend uninstalling the applications that you don't use and that aren't a necessity. Try wiping your cache.
Also, the rom that you're on might get substantially worse battery life than others, I recommend SBFing and trying a new rom, such as MIUI or DarkslideX. You could use stock Gingerbread, since it gets great battery life.

System Panel Light

So I used to be totally against task killers. Well I've been experiencing horrible battery life since switching to froyo. I've tried different modems, every rom, every kernel, been doing everything to get the best batt life I can. I've found myself getting at best 8-12 hours of battery life. Which is livable. Well I read adryn's signature about how to win at Quad, and decided to try system panel lite. Been using the widget to kill all tasks about every hour and now I'm sitting at ~60% battery. It's been a light usage day but even how I've used the phone today I'd be around 5-30% battery life by now. So not a night and day jump, but a good enough jump to mention. I just felt the need to post this thread for those still struggling with battery life. Try this out and report back.
I will be sure to try it. I have struggled with battery life to the point that I actually went back to eclair for a bit . I can't live without froyo anymore so I am gonna try whatever it takes.

I've been using System Panel since I got my phone, it's a really great app, way better than ATK or any of those other BS tk's.

I will give this a try my battery is horrendous. Wish the undervolted kernels worked for me but nope. I will giev this a go. Thanks
Ive been using advanced task killer froyo since moving on to 2.2 . I have it set to auto kill all apps but ignored apps everytime my screen times out. But it does well not closing apps im using. Such as pandora, browser etc. I get 20 hrs average with moderate use. It hasnt died on me since eb01

I recommend ES Task Manager. It isn't an automated killer (so no risk of it running rampant and doing more harm than good), and gives nice manual control for knocking out apps that are acting up. It is a nice upgrade from the stock one.

Still Learning About My Droid X

I appreciate all the assistance so far with my Droid X. I am beginning to get used to it more and more.
A few more questions that I am hoping someone can help with:
1) Is battery life horrendous on this device? I fully charged it yesterday and it didnt last a full day.
2) I have now rooted my X. I see references to a bootloader. Do I need to touch this at all?
3) Are there any good updated kernels available to play with?
4) Whats the impression of the leaked Gbread release? Any reason to move to it now?
Thanks,
Steve
1. Yes
2. No it is locked
3. No they cannot be flashed due to the locked bootloader
4. I have had great results with it and it is much better than froyo
Thanks for the responses.
Does the battery life get better with Gbread? If so how do you load it since we do not have an unlocked bootloader?
I have been reading about some ppl working on the bootloader, so its prolly a matter of time before someone cracks it. Not sure why Moto decided to lock the bootloader, when its unlocked on my Xoom!
Thanks I have begun the process of moving to Gbread. Clockwork is giving me some issues, but I am getting through it. Looking forward to seeing how this will run on the DX. I am coming from an Incredible, so for me the big changes are screen size and video capabilities.
I was able to drastically improve my battery life by undervolting the device with an overclocking app.
If you consider the size of the screen battery life is pretty good. I've never had a phone that last all day. There are things you can do to help. After about 8 hours im at about 40% not to bad for moderate use. But it could be better. Now some roms can give you better battle life.

Funny coming from a Dinc and you think the DX battery life is bad Anyway yes GB is a bit better on the battery and works very nice. Other things to do is either lower your screen brightness or turn it on auto. Freezing bloat and services you don't use (facebook feeds ect.) with Titanium Backup will have an impact too. Keeping live widgets to a minimum will help too. Use WiFi when you can and keep it turned off when not using it to stop the phone from pinging for it every minute helps. Using GPS hammers the battery but it can be left on since it only runs when an app calls for it. Same go for surfing the 'net, battery killer.
I can get 24 hours of life using my phone pretty hard but I have run out of battery at the end of the day if I really hammer on it. I keep my plugged in most of the day at work which helps get me through a heavy night of use.
fasthair
For me battery life was only an issue when I first got my DX. After I disabled all the bloat and got a good over clock/undervolt app (jrummy's), the battery life was better on 2.2 then the Dinc and Fascinate that are floating around my house. And once I updated to Gingerbread, the battery life became amazing, I can sit eight hours in an area with horrendous signal and have about half battery life left with moderate use. But results vary....
Sent from my Xoom the way it should be, rooted and with SD card.
This is all excellent info all. Thanks for taking the time out to assist. Once I had SetCPU installed on my Incredible I was able to get much better battery results. I am going to begin working with this again.
One thing I noticed is that I set the DX to shut the screen off after 2 mins, but it doesnt seem to shut off. Anyone seeing that issue too?
to those of you saying battery life sucks on the DX, dont ever switch to another phone (ie Thunderbolt). I made the move and my Tbolt died three times in a single day. My DX used to last me a day an a half (running Apex rom). The DX is actually really, really good compared to other smartphones with a 4.3in screen.

[Q] Choosing a ROM, battery life a must

Hi. I'm thinking about flashing my first ROM on the Droid X. I've been using rooted GB for awhile and I'm finally just getting bored and ready to try something different. I really am not looking for much though. My order of prefs are:
Stability > Battery Life > Performance
Mods and tweaks and things of that nature are not really a huge concern for me. I just want everything to work well, and have great battery life. I'd love to hear some suggestions.

i know this is gonna sound funny maybe.
i have a vzw droid-x that i am running the alltel rom on.
i put the phone in airplane mode and enable:
wifi off never
power savings wifi always on
i get at least 24hrs
now the equivalent rom to this would be the vzw 2.2.340
if you do not enable airplane mode and disable everything else i dont see why you would not be able to get the same results.
i get amazing battery life with the rom i said i was using above and dont forget this is with an "always on wifi" never ever disconnects
DSX and Shuji are great candidates for you. DSX is not flashy. It is completely reliable and battery life is stellar. You will not be disappointed. Shuji has great battery life as well and is more customizable. My primary phone always stays on DSX though. Ran 5 straight hours of Netflix and still had 5% left. Not sure too many roms can do that.

I also run DarkSlideX and can verify what is said above. Battery life is excellent. I probably make 20-30 minutes of call a day along with 2-3 dozen texts and 2-4 hours of web, forums, etc. I'm usually off the charger around 6:30am and back on it around 9-10pm with 20-30% battery remaining.
Stability has been awesome as well. I have had one reboot in 2 months, it happened about an hour after flash and that was it. BBCrackman did an excellent job with this.
If you want to try a theme for it, wulf has made some equally as nice themes, too. There are also a few custom sliders and a crt mod, too.
Everything can be found at MyDroidWorld and each has a dedicated thread complete with instructions. Best part is you're already on the pre-rooted 596, so all you should have to do is flash DSX right on top.
EDIT: also, much of the VZW bloat has been removed and it still has some blur present. HDMI support is working, too.

Give apex a try. Very stable and fast. I usually got about 18+ hours on stock battery with heavy usage.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA Premium App
I'm not quite sure how to respond to Apex and 18 hours of HEAVY usage. On a stock battery? Up till now I've never questioned someone's post, but this individual seems to have a serious question he'd like some input on. I don't have to be a modder, developer or themer to know no rom gives 18 hours of heavy use unless it's hooked up to a car battery. And even that may be questionable.

What about vanilla rom?
Thanks for the feedback guys. DSX and Shuji were a couple that had jumped out at me in my readings. I think I'll give them a shot!

Dsx was my first flash and haven't gone looking for another. Stable good battery, I'm a heavy user and smooth.
Across the airwaves via DarkslideX in 602 limbo.......
Wow. I went with darkslide and I'm loving it. I fully charged the night before last and I'm still at 50% today. That's with lower than usual usage, but still a huge improvement in battery life.

Glad you gave it a try. If you haven't already get battery calibration from Nema on the market and run that as well.

The latest cm has great battery life, and is buttery, smooth. As far as stability, and I have yet to have a problem, but but there is a slightly higher chance of issues compared to other roms.

How are you enjoying your Droid 2?

I've had my Droid 2 since about last November and I completely love it. I rooted after about 2 months of ownership, and never went back. A first (disasterous) attempt to flash CM7 nightlies that forced me to sbf turned me away from ROMing for awhile, but since then I've fun liberty 2.01 and 2.08 (gb based), Liquid Smooth ROM (battery life wasn't good enough for me), and I'm currently running ApeX, which I love. I'm overclocked to 1.15 ulv, use setcpu for profiles, and running a good amount of tasker profiles.
I was just wondering if anyone else had any good/bad expieriences and wanted to share? Any favorite ROM? Tale of woe?

I've had mine about a year now and I've totally loved it. It was my first Android/smartphone and I'm so glad I went with the Droid 2. Rooted when 1 click was available and rocked Fission for the longest. CM7 is doing be good for about 1 month now and will probably stick with it.
How's the battery life on CM7? Because I used Liquid smooth for awhile (cm7 based)and it sucked

It's still in the beta phase and supposedly there is a battery fix, but I haven't applied the new update since it was bootlooping. I have a extended battery and my battery life normally lasts 30 hrs.
i have my droid since September (almost a year!) its a good phone i rooted it with z4root. i never changed a rom b/c it erases all the data. but i really hate the restarted and the low battery life.
I've had my Droid 2 for 10 months and though it runs fantastic there are some minor annoyances.
Ive had my phone since october of last year. I got it for a single penny during amazons holiday sale. I love the phone its quite nice for how much I payed. I rooted with z4root and use many rooted apps. I hadn't tried other roms because of the locked bootloader. It just makes it kinda pointless to me without being able to have a custom kernel.
The stock rom isnt to bad once you get a few progs to spice up the ui.
I use many Go products.
The launcher, the messenger, calender widget. For battery life I use batterydefender beta which took me from like 6 hours tops idling to like 12+ so im cool with that. Great phone.
The GB leak and roms based off of it is great, id reccomend highly.

battery?

im running the stable cm7 release and my battery life is terrible. i followed the guide on the forums here on fixing your battery life, charging to 100% pull battery put back in instal battery fix etc and overnight (short 5 hour night btw) i lost over 25% of my battery life, doing nothing ! wifi off data was on but i only recieved one or two emails all night. is this normal for cm7?
i read about how people are getting 20+ hours battery life while using their phone, if i leave my charger at home and go to work my phone is DEAD halfway through and all i use it for is the occasional phone call mabye 5-10 texts throughout the day and an email or two... how can i fix this?
I read somewhere that if you flash another ROM with battery not fully charged, it messes up calibration and you have to calibrate again. I am still with stock Blur just because I read so many issues with so many people about batteries
I hope you can get it figured out.
anybody?
is anybody else having battery life issues with cm7? if not did you do something to fix it? i have no idea what to do, the phone pretty much has to be tethered to a charger or it gets drained ridiculously fast. If i hang out with a few friends and use my phone during it i literally have to stop using it after around an hour or so because the battery's about to die.
Is there a certain rom with exceptional battery life that i can try to see if mabye its a hardware related issue? i seem to remember having horrible battery life for the day? or so that i was running stock ATT gingerbread.
I use Aura 1.2.2.2 (debloat) and get average battery life. Comparable to what I got before I installed third party ROM. If you want to try that one and see if its just CM then give it a go.
I had a battery problem after flashing to CM with a previous phone (OG Droid) but it was because I flashed while I had the phone plugged into the charger. It took a while to get it back to normal.
I doubt its CM. I dont know if its something draining your battery in the background or if its a result of weird calibration due to the flash.
my battery life has never been hte greatest but recently i got it working really well
I use the latest weekly build of CM7 and here is what i did
upon fresh install:
wipe battery stats
THEN:
kill battery
charge as far as it will go
clear battery stats (use battery calibration app)
take out battery
wait to reboot(missing battery)
put it back in
let it charge for 2hrs
reboot and unplug
kill the battery
charge to 100% while off (no interuptions)
Enjoy!
i have found that the more cycles my battery goes through 100-0-100
the better it gets
these steps almost tripled my battery life (along with Weekly 3)
there is a bug some people report with CM7 about the suspend process. (i have it, you can search "suspend" in the CM7 thread and see others are as well) load up the app betterbatterystats (there is a thread on xda that has the apk) and see if you have that bug.
I'm on nightly 20 having good battery life

I'm a victim of the suspend process bug
had to flash something else, using ALIEN for now and battery is pretty good
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
i installed betterybatterystats as you guys recommended and im not entirely sure how to read it but the suspend process shows at the top of the list so i assume thats the process which is eating up my battery? Is there a fix for this? i do like cm7 but if its the rom which is causing my battery life issues ill have to wave goodbye. Does this suspend process but happen on the weekly / nightly builds as well?
I was having horrible battery life as well. I froze some apps that I downloaded from the market and that helped a little bit but what gave me 20+ hours of battery life is the new UK orange Radio that has recently been released. I wanted to flash it since I am using an Orange UK phone and see if it improves my wifi connection, etc....
Reddy flashing a radio appropriate to your device and see if it helps.

I had it on stable, and am on weekly 3 right now. I'm probably going to switch back to a blur rom soon..

My battery blows with CM7. My phone has the suspend bug and nothing fixes it. I tried a fastboot wipe and clean install of the latest stable as well as nightly #20. I've tried several kernels, I'm currently running a screen off profile of 216-216 on the 1.0ghz kernel and I'm undervolted to the max just to make it thru the day.
I'm getting the nexus prime or the iPhone 5 next... which ever is released first.
