As we are probably not going to see Skype video on the A500 anytime soon, I wondered if anyone had any experience of using google talk to video-call an ipad running Vtok?
Thanks
I tried it out briefly with my dad's iPad, and it seemed to work out alright.
Thank for that, how was the mic volume on the Iconia?
Does Tango work with the A500?? It works great with my GalaxyS2 so I assumed it would be fine with the A500 ... but maybe not...??

I just got my 2nd A500, installed Skype but it crashes more often than not. If it works then it works fine.
This is something i found at the skype forums... the exact same thing is happening with me

Sorry, I haven't been able to reproduce that result. Will keep trying though.
Do you have any other voip things running at the same time? Fring? Tango? Qik? GTalk? for eg. Just curious.
I have tried Gtalk, it works fine, will try Fring and Tango.

Oh I was just wondering if they were running on your device, where one app could cause another to possibly crash but it seems you weren't. Will try to use skype more and see if I get crashes.
skype crashes on me as well when I was trying to do a test call. I installed fring and did a test video call just fine though. I can't even stand to look at fring though.
workaround
I had a similar problem on my Acer iconia a500. The work around was to go to settings>wireless and networks>wi-fi settings>wi-fi disconnect policy>never when plugged in. After setting this and plugging in the tablet I can make calls... And it has continued to work since unplugging, so you might even be able to skip that step.
What Skype are you using that allows video? Where do I get it? The only ones I see allow voice (mobile).
I would also like to know which skype someone is using to get video calls. Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks

Dolby
Hello,
my Skype was crashing the tablet too all the time. opening it and chatting with it was fine, but as soon as i did place a call, the tablet restarted.
I deactived Dolby in the Settings, and everything worked as it should.
>I deactived Dolby in the Settings, and everything worked as it should.
Thanks!
Turning off Dolby fixed the garbled sounds that I was getting when making calls with Skype.
Before this, I could hear the lady on Skype test call clearly, but my recording was garbled. (My workaround to this was to plug in a set of headphones when making calls.)

I was having the same issue. Played around with the wifi settings as suggested by ttenani and reinstalled Skype. It has not crashed since.
Spacey1982's suggestion on the Dolby has now fixed my the garbled sounds that I was getting with the mic.
Now, if only Skype would release a version that allows video calls. Otherwise, we should all migrate to Google Talk. (Are you listening Microsoft?)
Thank you so much for this fix and or workaround. I now have Skype YEA!!!!!!! Wow a forum...

Just the fact it's Microsoft is enough reason for me to migrate my family to Google Talk.
have an HTC one with ARHD2.0 GE on it...but skype crashes when i want to make a call....:crying:
Hi all... Purchased my Iconia about a week ago and am generally pleased with it. I have been having an issue, and after scouring the interwebs I haven't been able to find a solution.
My sister also has the Iconia, and yesterday we attempted to initiate video chat sessions with both Gtalk and Fring. Video works fine on both programs and on both tablets, but on her Iconia, strange audio distortions are coming through. Sometimes we can hear what sounds like music, which would lead me to believe that it may be some kind of interference.
We've tried chatting when I'm at home and she's at her place and both on her network. Also we have both tried starting the sessions . Always the sounds are on her tablet. We haven't tried it yet where we are on a completely different network(s).
What can we do to troubleshoot the problem? We both purchased from BB and still have some time to exchange if it is a hardware issue, but I would like to make sure that it isn't some kind of interference or software issue first.
BTW we both live in Philadelphia... I live blocks away from a TV station which furthers my suspicion that it may be interference. Thanks for the help
It's not interference, it's the Iconia
Tried video calls between our Tab and my PC, and between the Tab and my phone. Sound is just screwed up for VOIP and video calls. Acer needs to fix it in a software update.
Thanks MaddMatt. I'm going to stick it out with the Iconia... I think that most of the bugs will get fixed in upcoming updates. But I think my sister is going to exchange for the Flyer.

So then I guess it would be my tablet with the issue, since hers is the one that is picking up the sound from my microphone?
First off, I'm new to the Iconia, just bought it two days ago with the Staples coupon
I've got it updated as of this morning to 3.1 with the 4.010.11 build (US). I can't tell you if this problem started after the update because I only tried afterwards to video chat with my gf on a PC, but it seems as though the incoming sound isn't working for the Talk app. She can hear me and we can both see each other fine, but the only problem is that I can't hear her. We tried Skype amd I can hear her just fine off of that, but if my understanding is correct, Skype doesn't support the Iconia for video (right?). Anyone else have this problem and/ or knows how to solve this problem?
Are there any other apps we can use on the Iconia to video chat with PC users?
try to reinstall... maybe you are on mute (don't use gtalk, but just guessing) i duuno otherwise sorry
Yeah I checked and made sure neither of us were on mute. If you don't us gtalk, what do you use? I don't care to use 1 app over another so long as I can get video chatting with a desktop/ laptop to work.
Hi all, I hadn't remarked it before, but yesterday I was talking through Gtalk and there is an important trouble:
1) If we are using a tablet and the other person uses a PC or laptop, we will hear everything fine, no noises, and the other person will hear some kind of noises or interferences, very very uncomfortable.
2) If both people are using tablets, then we both will hear the uncomfortable noises/interferences.
We made the tests using Gtalk and also using Skype with the same results. It happens either if we use audio or audio with video.
We were using two Packard Bell Liberty Tab (same as Acer Iconia A500) one of them with the original rom updated to HC 3.2 and the other using Civato's Flexthunder (HC 3.2.1)
Any idea of what's happening? any help?
Thanks in advance
Hi, my first post so be gentle!
Does anyone have one of these, it is the Bluetooth version of the MK809 ii and although I'm generally happy with it, it does have a few shortfalls. I am using it with a lan adaptor which works well.
I have a webcam that sort of works with Skype, but the large (Skype caller) and small (local webcam) images are the wrong way round, so if anyone calls I have to squint at the tiny picture! I tried the version off xda but it's the same. Any help there would be appreciated.
I've never dabbled with flashing anything android but should I be looking at doing this perhaps, and if so I have not seen any mention of the Bluetooth version of the MK809ii. I'll probably turn it into a vegetable anyway!
I welcome any thoughts/experience with this gadget.
Cheers
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
which lan adapter are you using and how much.
I am looking to buy the mk809ii, and was wondering what are some CONs and disadvantage you are seeing now? I heard it is much better than the mk808 as it has less glitches?

I'm using the BOBJGEAR usb to Lan android adapter, works fine out of the box on my tv stick.
Aside from the Skype problem above (REALLY annoying!), not too many cons to be honest, just minor niggles mainly with some apps not being suited to it.
-Youtube seems to have lost its ability to go full screen for some reason, works fine on my Nexus 7 and is the same version.
-I have tried a few DLNA media apps to try and view pictures, videos etc from my NAS and they appear to be occasionally laggy across my network, the media app that came with the stick seems to work the best but looks pants!
-Watching films is generally a good experience, but the rendering isn't fantastic on darker films, probably mainly due to the quality of videos I have. Youtube HD videos are perfect.
-Google earth works but there doesn't seem to be any zoom buttons so is useless, i haven't looked into that yet.
All in all i'm happy with it, I bought a Xenta bluetooth keyboard with built in mouse which connects fine directly with the built in bluetooth. The mouse is a bit frustrating though so will be buying a bluetooth mouse.
Hope that helps
hi sadsplace, im just thinking of buying one, are you still happy 2 weeks in, any new suggestions?
thanks

No Skype calls on new MK 809 II
I just got this new TV stick which seems to be working fine. Still, I'm unable to make calls in Skype. I attached a USB webcam and I also paired a bluetooth headset, I enabled video calls in Skype, but when I get to call anyone, after 2 or 3 rings, the call fails no matter if the other party answered or not. The only error message I see is "Call failed".
If anyone experienced this, is there a way to at least see if the webcam and the BT microphone are correctly installed? I tried several webcam apps from Google Play just to get an immage on my screen and finally I got one, but not in Skype.. .
