Hi,
I just got my new nook Color.
I still have a 2GB MicroSD card from my mobile(which was included in the box - NoName)
so i used the newest nightly 172 build and followed the SD installation tutorial
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957
it was booting into the installer did everything and after switching off I can not boot from the SD. if I take out the SD it will boot normally (Stock) but with SD dont boot.
Any Idea?
Buy another SD Card?
Change to another nightly build?
Thanks for help!
Did you try reformatting the card and starting fresh?
You can use most any file manager / partition tool to re-format.
Thanks a lot.
I used
- Panasonics SD formatter and i used
- win32diskimager-RELEASE-0.1-r15 (not 0.3).
first Problem solved!
NEXT ISSUES:
After I had a running system I installed few apps from the market and some apk (downloaded with browser).
after Rebooting I got the pinguin screen with some text lines but it wouldnt reboot.
I bought now a new 16GB Kingston Class 4 SD card.
I dl the new 173 build and try to get a running system with this setup on the SD but at the moment also with some issues (CM7 loading screen but not booting in CM7)
I think i will start all over from the beginning.
Thanks for Help!
thanks for help!
tried the 16GB Kingston Class 4 card now with "old" 172 Build with the same result ..... is 16 GB not supported from "generic-sdcard-v1.3.img" ?
I recommend trying CM-7.1.0-RC1-encore

Had my HD2 for over a year now and finally got fed up of lack of WinMo apps, which my housemate with his iPhone loved to point out all the time. So I decided to try out Android a few days ago.
Read all tutorials etc and installed Skink's clean desire rom v1.3 using cwm. Got everything set up and was really pleased with my shiny new phone. Everything was working like a dream!
I decided to get a new 16 GB SD card as my 8GB card was full of music etc. Here is where the problems started...
To get all data onto 16GB SD card:
I partitioned it using cwm using same size partition size as on 8GB (1024mb)
Copied all files on 8GB fat32 partition onto 16GB fat32
With the 8GB SD card in the phone did a backup using cwm
Copied backup onto 16GB card inserted it into phone and did a restore
Now the fat32 and ext3 partitions on the 16GB card and 8GB card should be the same, so everything should carry on working fine when i boot up my phone.
It didn't I just kept getting lots of stopped unexpectedly errors until finally everything stopped loading even the home screen, and I'd have to remove battery. However if I just put my old 8GB card in everything worked fine as before
So after much frustation I gave up on this method and decided to just wipe everything on 16GB card and start from scratch:
Formatted 16GB card
Repartitioned it using cwm
wiped data, cache, dalvik cache
installed clean desire rom from sd card
booted up started reinstalling all apps etc
Now here is where things get very strange, I'd start reinstalling apps and reconfiguring to how it was before and then randomly I'll get a stopped unexpectedly error, like process.android.media or something similar. But it seems as if everything would carry on working, then slowly I get more errors until for example as soon as you click on internet you get an error and it closes.
I believe the problem lies with the sd card seeing as that is the only thing that has changed. I also think this rom stores more than just apps on the sd card. Because after I get a few of these stopped unexpectedly errors nothing is saved on the phone. For example I'll change the ringtone from x to y click ok, but when I click back on change ringtone it's still on x. But I can still play music that is stored on the sd card. After I reboot the phone for a while I can make changes and they are persistent but eventually I end up back at this strange state. It's almost as if I can read from the SD card but not write to it.
Another example when I've got to this strange state, I'll add a folder to home screen, add apps into etc. But when I restart the folder has gone.
If I reinsert my 8GB card and do a restore, I get everything back and it works perfectly. But I want to use my 16GB card, that's why I bought it!
My questions are:
Does anybody have an idea of what is going on when it gets into this strange state?
Does anybody know how to fix it?
Is there some way of testing the SD card?
Should my first method of getting all data onto new sd card have worked?
SD Cards are:
Samsung 8GB class 6
Transcend 16GB class 6
Sorry for the long post, any suggestions are greatly appreciated
*updated/Fixed*
Hey all, So i am a long time lurker of this forum and also the Nexus One and G1 forum for a long time. So i am at work, and decided i wanted to update my nook SD install from the 6.1 date: 5/5 versions. So i downloaded the updated version, then proceeded to clear my SD card of the partitions and reformat to have a clean start. no when ever i try to write the .img of Dualboot Phiremod / Honeycomb, it tells me there isn't enough storage for the data. My SD card has 7.41 gb open and the file is only 3.5gb. Now this could be cause by the card reader in my work laptop, or any other factor, and as soon as i get home i will be trying the pc i used last time and for most of my rom writing. I have tried many image writers, partition erasers, etc so i don't believe those to be the problem. I also put the sd card on my mac mini and did a reformat there, and then moved back to pc to write...no dice. so i am in a spot where i am stuck until i get home, but thought i would get this up in case i did fix then i can post what i did to help other who may run into this problem. anyone have any ideas?
using Nook Color, Transcend 8gb Class 6 MicroSD.
formats were done on new Mac Mini, Thinkpad T410.
programs used: WinImage(although not good with it), Win32DiskImager, SDFormatter, EASEUS Partitioner, along with windows/mac built in tools.
I was running - ph-hc-dualboot-sd.img.zip version 6.1/HCv4
updating to - ph-hc-dualboot-sd-v0.2.img.zip - Phiremod 6.2 and Madcat's Honeycomb Hybrid-RC1
Again any help would be appreciated, but also if i figure this out i will be reposting my answer/fix. Sorry for the wall of text but i wanted to give all the details. Thanks!
*****UPDATE/FIX*****
So it turns out that some card readers must not handle the size of cards the same. I was able to write the image just fine once on an external SD card reader. So if you have some strange issues writing the image, try a different Card Reader.
Hey everyone,
I keep getting the same error while copying the Typhoon zip-file to my SDcard (empty, and 8GB is available).
It seems to be loading it onto the SD card, but it gets stuck (see 1st photo), then I get this error saying the card is no longer connected (which it is). I've turned off my phone several times and tried again and again, but I can't get it to work.
I hope someone can help me.
If not, how do I get back to windows 6.5 ?
Use an sd card reader. They are normally really cheap.
Otherwise format the card with sd formatter (program) and retry.
Before that you can try to copy the files via clockwork mod :
Mounts and storage and the mount usb or try to mount just sd.
Hope this helps you.

Hi Y'all
Im having the same problem trying to Install NAND Android with ClockWorkMod Recovery. At the last step,
7. Open your favorite ROM (ex. JawsMIUIrec1.0.7z) with 7-Zip.
8. Copy .data folder and ex. JawsNandRec1.1.zip to SD card root level.
I encounter exactly the same thing the OP is saying. Its not copying over. Im using a Kingston 8 GB microSDHC Class 4 Flash Memory Card SDC4 and my PC is running 7.
Any other suggestions?
jonas has given u the best solutions but there is another 1 u could try.
if u have a camera with an sd card reader, stick it in there, attach camera to pc,see if it allows u to format the sd card, then try to add the file
HOPE THIS HELPS...............FEEL FREE TO HIT THANKS
Hi all. So I'm pretty new to this whole nook color thing. I have been trying to follow the instructions to install CM7 to a microsd card (Sandisk, class 4, 4gb) but I don't seem to be having much success, as I'm getting a strange error when the install process is being run.
Here's what I've done:
1. Put microsd card into adapter and insert into the card reader in my laptop. Write the generic SD image to the card with winimage32
2. Re-size the boot partition from ~100mb to 1.5gb using Easus partition master.
3. Paste over the update-cm-7.1.0-encore-signed.zip file.
4. Eject card, remove from computer
5. insert microsd card into NC. Start up. I get a "...loading" without the CM logo, and then it starts to run through the install. During the install, I frequently get this error:
I/O error, dev mmcb1k1, sector [x] where [x] represents a bunch of different sectors (seriously it scrolls through a huge list)
I also sometimes see:
mmcb1k1, error -110 transferring data
It does a lot of inflating of files, gives me more of those errors, does some more inflating, and eventually concludes the install and shuts down the NC.
When I start the NC again I get the cyanogen logo, with "...loading," the screen briefly flashes, and then nothing. The NC screen is on, but it doesn't display anything.
So what am I doing wrong?? I'm very confused at this point.
I believe this is not your fault. (You are certainly not alone)
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297738.
Try again using an old Class-2 uSDHC card. If it is not marked, it is class-2.
If that works please let us know.
I'm going to try installing one more time, then run out to Microcenter to pick up a replacement card. Any suggestion on how I identify a class-2 card that would work to pick up?
PNY 2GB with no class marking from Sears worked for me.
On the back of the packaging above the bar code P-SDU2GB-EF

Get a usb adapter for writing to your microsd. I was having all kinds of errors
with new sandisk cards using the same method you are, then after changing to the
usb adapter they all are working.

Sooo I went to Microcenter and bought an unmarked Sandisk 2gb card (I'm assuming its class 2, though I don't know for sure). Installed CM7 on the first try. I'm not sure what is going on with the Sandisk class 4 4gb card, but I think there's an issue with it...
Excellent news.
You might be interested to know that I have just managed to clone 7.1.0 Release onto a SanDisk 4GB - see the related thread mentioned above for details.
Thanks for the update
a. Completely reformat your 4GB uSD.
b. Redo step 1 above with Win32DiskImager, using old version.
c. You can ignore your step 2 above.
d. Follow your steps
hi really did try searching for this couldn't find any help.
i successfully had WP7 on my hd2 with a 4GB card, had it activated via chat and everything. I wanted to put in my 16GB card and try setting up a dual boot with android.
WP7 gives me an error now "memory card not working" and my only option is to turn off phone (or make emergency call).
it gives me that error with the 4GB card and the 16GB card.
i have tried reflashing it with the 16GB in it and that doesn't work.
I have tried reflashing it with no card in it and that doesn't work.
pretty sure i tried with the 4GB card too.
i know both cards work. the 4GB still has the small partition and the larger unknown from the wp7 install.
any help please?

""""This article provides information to help you understand how Windows Phone 7 devices use SD cards, the performance requirements of SD cards for Windows Phone 7 devices, and how your phone will behave if you remove the SD card or add a new one.
Some Windows Phone 7 devices include a Secure Digital (SD) card slot underneath the battery cover. If you buy a Windows Phone 7 device that includes an SD card slot, you should be aware of several important differences from other devices that use SD cards:
The SD card slot in your phone is intended to be used only by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) that built your phone and your Mobile Operator (MO). These partners can add an SD card to this slot to expand the amount of storage on your phone.
To help ensure a great user experience, Microsoft has performed exhaustive testing to determine which SD cards perform well with Windows Phone 7 devices. Microsoft has worked closely with OEMs and MOs to ensure that they only add these cards to Windows Phone 7 devices.
You should not remove the SD card in your phone or add a new one because your Windows Phone 7 device might not work properly. Existing data on the phone will be lost, and the SD card in your phone can't be used in other Windows Phones, PCs, or other devices.""""
not sure how to remedy this though.

I used a PNY 16GB c4 SD card for dual boot, no problem. WP7 is picky though.
4GB is cutting it WAY too close for any kind of functional dual boot. Each OS takes about 1GB. That doesn't leave you much room for anything else.
that's interesting that my pny 16GB doesn't work while yours does.
I tried to setup dual boot but i didn't do something right cause i get a load error when i try to do from the SD rom.
when setting the card up for dual boot, i was watching a youtube video of a person here doing it, at one point the partition they are working on goes from fat 16 to fat 32 but he doesn't describe doing it.
youtube.com/watch?v=jhuR59UXw_4&feature=player_embedded
i'm not sure if that is the prob or what. I ended up converting the partition to fat 32
i got the dual boot figured out using this guide instead:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYL1M40Ntzo&feature=player_embedded
there was some editing i was not doing.
this was with the 4GB. i'll try to find another bigger card that works.
