How do I go ahead and full set up overclocking? I tried one ROM, and installed G3Mod Extreme. Nothing seemed changed so I found a overclock app in the market and set it to 1200Mhz but then the phone crashes each time. And whatever I set it to it did not seem any faster and default was 600. Help would be loved.
G3mod extreme is not for someone who is mosly a beginer with OC the phone. Use g3mod performance or ultimate and setcpu for changing the frequency.
To do this do I also need a OC version of a rom like Kyrillos Rom OC version?
I think u only require OC kernel coz when i used indroid i had to use an overclockable kernel to be able to overclock it.
Which Kernel and what frequency?
Am a lil too confused as to which kernel do i flash.. There are so many kernels out thr now which are already overclocked.. An wen i flash an overclocked kernel, my phone doesn't boot at all.. So first I hav to flash a non over clocked kernel.. And then overclock it..
Can u guys pls suggest me some good kernel to do this..
And also.. Pls tell me to what frequencies do i have to set in SET CPU and in what profile...
Thank u

Try putting your phone into recovery mode and having a mess about there. Possibly do a data wipe.

i read somewhere on this
forum that you have to untick in setcpu set on boot before flasing kernel

I did the same and got stuck in a boot loop. I went into recovery mode and cleared all caches and partitions the reboot. It then booted fine. Then i unticked the set on boot

I installed the Wildpuzzle v8 ... and then i installed SetCPU from this forum ... and i am not able to set the max past 528mhz ... i thought it must be something wrong with the custom rom .. ive even tried cynogenmod bt no luck there either ...
I believe its something to do with installing a custom kernel ... but i have no clue how to work with that ... If any one can please help me with that ... I am new to the android world ... and i want to overclock my wildfire ...
Thanks in advance ... tc
If you are using WildPuzzle, flash the overclockable kernel. (The file name starts with 0130 under kernels).
Once you flash it, OC'ing is enabled, and you will be able to OC till 768 Mhz.
Flashing a kernel is the same as flashing a Custom ROM. Reboot into Recovery > Install Zip from SDC, Select the Kernel ZIP. Remember to take a nandroid backup beforehand though.
Good Luck
Install the Jacob's kernal.
Just flash it like ROM thru the recovery without flashing. I recommend a nandroid backup first in case something goes wrong.
Dont forget to hit the thanks button if it was helpful to you.

Don't flash that package, it's just a speed setting. First, you need to flash this
http://rom.tat.tw/wildfire/wildpuzzlerom/2.2/patches/0130_kernel_overclock_jacob_2.6.32_v1.zip
(3rd kernel of KERNELS title in Wildpuzzle 0.8 post)

Flash it over the ROM, without wiping or reflashing the rom. Just flash it without doing nothing before or afterm and reboot.

This one:
0130_kernel_overclock_jacob_2.6.32_v1.zip
0159 will also do (You will STILL need to flash 0130 before that). It will preset the CPU Speed to 691. Personally, I prefer flashing the OC'ed kernel, and, setting my own speeds and profiles through SetCPU. But, it is upto you.
Flashing a faster predefined speed than the default 528mhz, I prefer 652mhz file, helps with the booting process complete smoother.. less waiting time to load up desktop. That's what I find anyway... used to wait ages until setcpu kicks in.

if you use the 130 kernel with wildpuzzle, the wifi hotspot won't work, it will be visible but won't connect, if you flash 055 overclocking kernel from wildpuzzle 8.0.11 thread then wifi hotspot is all good
strongly reccomend HCDR Jacobs Kernel v4.1 its the bees knees haha
flash taht and your good to go
high - 691200
low - 25800

One more thing .. as i was told flashing the 0130 kernel would help me in setting up a predifine values through setCPU... after flashing the 0130 .. i still cudnt set my speed more than 528 ... then i flashd the predifnd 691mhz kernel ... nw atleast the setcpu widget shows my max 691 nd min 254 .... :/

130 works fine, and if anything got a slightly higher linpack score than 055 as i tested both, it just wouldn't work with wifi hotspot.
i have only ever used set cpu.
to flash 055 i restored nandroid backup i did before overclocking with 130 and then flashed 055.
Flashing CM7 nightly #19 would resolve issues. Also i didn't heard anyone complaining about this on CM7 thread. Please be sure to follow exactly the steps for installing CM7 including wipe and format /system.
CM7 #19 is OC'able by defaul, u only have to install SETcpu.
#19 is pretty stable.

I had freezing issue's with the BE (whats used in kyrillos's rom, though the version in his rom may be newer) but I didnt have freezing issues with the apocalypse beta3 OC version, so you could try that out if OCing is very important to you
Ok thx.
I'm gonna try the Apocalypse ROM. : )
Just one more question. Do I have to remove my partitions first?

Partitions? No.
I could be wrong, but being a veteran overclocker of desktop CPU's, I know that some processors don't overclock as well as some else might, so one thing you could try is set a lower speed, like 1200mhz. Or start from 667 increasing 100 at a time and running a quadrant each time until It's not stable anymore (eg. freezes).

This has been floating around here too, together with the trying different frequencies (end users cant really try 100 at a time, since they dont change the kernel, only 667 833/866 1000 and 1.3ghz unless other values have been added that i am not aware of). I know I had problems with one OCed kernel (regardless of how much I OCed) but didnt have problems with another, so the OC method might have something to do with it (reverse engineering vs sources or stuff like that). It's usually not that easy (or well documented/something similar that my brain cant verbalize atm) to overclock a phone as it is to overclock a desktop.
Yeah, I know It's nothing like overclocking a desktop CPU, but the bottom line is they're both processors and components that work the same way.
Set the min and max frequency the same, it worked for me

Hi
Download ADB
adb push fs.convert /sdcard/android/data/fugumod/fs.convert
But if you set the same value for min and max your battery life will decrease drammatically....... min frequency is very important when the phone is idle.....
Overclocking got a bit mystic for me I tried the Apocalypse and Kyrillos ROMs with OC. Could not get a stable work from them. Tried changing the frequencies (min and max) and all sort of stuff, but nothing helped. TouchWiz was periodicaly freezing, on big apps like Angry Birds the phone would just hang up and I had to reboot.
Being tired of that, I flashed a stock ROM (being XWJPE for Ukraine), rooted it, and then flashed FuguMod Kernel 2.3. Works fine for me. No freezes, no hang ups, and I didn't have to mess with the frequencies. I suggested anyone who can not get a Custom OC ROM to work properly, to try doing it manualy on a clean stock ROM.
Good luck!
Hi,
sorry to resurrect quite an old post, but i would like to know which (free) app you guys use to manage cpu frequency. I tried some but it was either over-complex or not working decently (not detecting non-extreme frequencies).
I am using kyrillos 5.0 and it looks like my phone is going to 1300 MHz as soon as i ask it anything...
SetCPU is the only one i know^^

I am very sorry to inform you that Repensis Kernel doesn't support overclocking. If you want an overclock kernel, try Merruk Technology Kernel V2.5. Else, flash Savie's Kernel and overclock it the way you did so. Merruk kernel v2.5 is already overclock to 1.2 GHz. You don't need to flash overclock zip again. But Savie kernel is not yet overclock. You need to flash the overclock zip file to overclock it to 900MHz. Only Stock kernel, merruk kernel and savie kernel supports overclocking till date of all the available kernels for Galaxy Y. Always keep in mind that overclocking drains the battery and heats up the phone which can cause damage to your handset. Just reflash Repensis Rom v3.5 via Clockwork Mode Recovery or via Stock Recovery.
Hit thanks if I helped you.

Flash repencis kernel(i use old, from repencis v3.5 rom not new) and install no frills cpu control from google play and you see frequency(312,624,832) also governors and io scheduler and set what frequency you want.I use min 312 and max 624 governor ondemand,io scheduler sio. After my opinion these settings are good because battery not drain fast and performance are good. But if i play gsmes like angry birds i set to min 832 max 832 governor performance and io scheduler vr.

My dear, do you really know what overclocking means? Our CPU is meant to run at the max frequency of 832 MHz and min frequency of 312Mhz. If you want it to run at frequencies higher than 832MHz, you have to overclock the cpu. If you can make your cpu run at frequencies higher than 832 Mhz then it means you have overclocked your cpu and your kernel supports overclocking.I have tried to overclock repensis v3.5 kernel before, and I was stuck at Samsung Galaxy Y screen and the phone didn't boot up thereby indicating that the kernel doesn't support overclocking and hence the cpu cannot be overclock. In short, overclocking a cpu means to make the cpu run at frequencies higher than its permissible max frequency as set my the manufacturer. Better do a little research before posting.

How do I do this? And if so, are there any precautions I should take.
Only with kernel support overclock and undervolt
Use no frills cpu app or setcpu...
You have to use a kernel that supports overclocking. I suggest that if you want to play high end games, then use Merruk deluxe 2.5. You can overclock to 1.2ghz.
Right, will flash that later today
Got any good values to overclock and undervolt to? Thanks -Boncey
If you're using Merruk 2.5 deluxe then certainly overclock to 1.2ghz or it will be wasted.

It certainly won't. Use no frills CPU control for overclocking.
Just before I goto Merruk, is there a version for Savie?
No, it (savie) does not support overclocking. Merruk kernel is the only one that supports overclocking.
I messed up big time when installing the kernel, and ODIN isn't even detecting my phone when I try to go back to stock rom, not even the COM: thing! Any ideas?

Can you please specify what is happening? And how did you brick your phone?
