Ok so this is a weird problem.
90% of the time the phone works 100% perfectly.
Sometimes when I try to swipe between homescreens the phone does nothing...its not locked up because the capacitive buttons work, and tapping the bottons on the bottom will let me switch home screens without a problem, it is JUST swiping that wont work.
A reboot of the phone makes swiping work again...any ideas? This is super weird.
Are you using the default Gingerbread launcher? I heard a lot of people were having trouble with that at the outset. Haven't heard as much about it lately, but I'm not sure if that's because it's been fixed or just because everyone's either learned to live with it or switched launchers.
Back when I was using the stock launcher, I experienced that a few times too. I also experienced other glitches and oddities, like difficulty in moving icons on my home screen or sometimes when trying to move icons, they would disappear and appear instead in a folder. Very random stuff. Anyway, the screen swiping issue also showed up a few times.
I've since switched to ADW launcher and haven't looked back.
Gingerbread is glitchy. That much is clear. Hopefully Google will issue more bug fixes soon.
Training am using the stock launcher. I really like the 3d app drawer and it is buggy in launcher pro. How is it in adw?

I find ADW to be thoroughly awesome. You can give the free ADW.Launcher a try, but it's missing a few features that are in the paid version ADWLauncher EX, including the 3D app drawer. Unfortunately, you don't get much of a trial period now that Google has reduced their refund window to 15 minutes, but you ought to be able to test out the app drawer and play around with the other features at least a bit in that time if you want.
I too vouch for ADW. The free version itself is quite an excellent launcher. I used to be an avid LauncherPro fan back on my Vibrant, but on the Nexus S, ADW is smooth as butter. The ability to customize your icons on the home screen (which is only available in the paid LP version) is great too. Virtually no hiccups whatsoever swiping through screens.
Either case, it's tons better than stock launcher.
I have the same exact problem and I'm all stock. I usually reboot all apps and programs using FastReboot from the market and it goes back to normal. I agree that Gingerbread still has its glitches still =[
So if o pay for adw launcher the 3d drawer works fine?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Who knows? Download it and see. All I can tell you is it works great for me.
The stock launcher is buggy as hell. I use launcher pro and it runs flawlessly.

The 3d app drawer (called 4d app drawer in adw) runs horribly on the nexus s. If you plan on changing launchers, adw is good, but the only decent app drawer to select for it is horizontal fling.
Adw holds up relatively well now on the nexus s (ran like arse on 2.3.1). Sometimes however adw will all of a sudden freeze though. You think your phone is frozen but it's not, the launcher has just slowed down to a crawl. The launcher buttons at the bottom work fine when this issue occurs, but swiping of screens will appear not to work.
If you get this problem in adw, you have to go into applications and find adw, then force close it (it doesn't appear as running under task killers, so you can't kill it from there). It will then run fine again. I have had this happen a couple of times with adw and I used to think I had to reset the phone. Was a pain.
The stock launcher problem you have stated in this thread I have encountered as well, which is why I moved to adw. While the stock launcher appears to use acceleration in the app drawer, which i love too, the regular launcher home screens are basically unusable at this stage. I hope they fix it soon, but it likely wont be for a while.
This happened on my G1, my Nexus One and my Nexus S.
I finally wised up and installed LauncherPro (on my N1 and NS) and the problem doesn't happen anymore. In fact, LauncherPro is way faster than the default launcher.
The age-old (and largely pointless) debate between LP and ADW aside, the OP already said LP didn't work well for him.
Hit Menu > Manage Applications > Running > Menu > Show Cached Processes > Launcher > Stop > Home
Swiping will work again after that, until the next time the bug occurs. Quicker than rebooting though.

launcher pro vs ADW?
I want to get something new too but I don't want to customize my phone TOO much because of the steep learning curve and having to remember how things work.
Anyone know which of the two is most similar to the stock launcher?
So I'm running Go Launcher EX, and have a few widgets (XDA, setcpu, fancy widget, news) and whenever I restart my phone, the widgets are all over the place. Some are on top of each other, some get misplaced on different home screens. I noticed this with stock, midnight, and supernova (All EB13)... Anyone else experiencing this? Solutions?
I'm running the newest 2.11 version as well of go launcher.
I'm running go launcher on eb13, but I'm not experiencing anything like that.. my widgets stay put..

Could be. I'm using GO as well on EB13 and no problems. I restored through CWM from DK28, not titanium.
I was having the same problem.. after updating to the latest midnight rom I haven't had the problem yet. Crossing my fingers

Any more problems w/ GO Launcher?
I'm running stock EC05 and have never been able to get GO Launcher to work properly (the first version I downloaded was 2.2.8). At first (version 2.2.8), I couldn't edit my icons (e.g. change the picture). Now (version 2.3.0), I can't even display the "Preferences" menu (it closes right after I try to open it and the last application I used is then displayed) in addition to all the other problems I previously had.
That said, is there anyone who's not having problems w/ GO Launcher that is running stock? Or, is there anyone that can utilize all of GO Launcher's features and if so, what are running on your phone?
Go Launcher X messes up whenever the phone does not properly shutdown. It's always recommended to shut down and then turn back on, instead of reboot. (I think reboot is a hard reboot, not a soft one so it doesn't shutdown properly).
I'm running Srf 1.11 and Go launcher works good for me the only problem I encounter is when phone isn't on landscape mode and I press menu the landscape mode menu comes up only showing part of it. Or the dock dissapearing occasionaly.

GO Launcher EX.. Works great, no lagging no problems
I have just started playing around with GO Launcher and loving it, playing around with the fling speed and transition has given it a whole lot more finished feel
I am using the Go Launcher too but i think that after the new minor update it lags on boot. No other lags after that.
I prefer GO Launcher
Zeam for me.
It has all the features I want (custom dock, home screen gestures) and is so incredibly fast.
I was using GO Launcher Ex and loved it but the new Stockwells B160 Rom includes Launcher Pro so I am giving it a run. Frankly I think I prefer GO. there's not really a lot of difference so far as both are very customizable. I think I'll probably go back to GO as I miss the extra option of swipe upwards. I used this as the camera shortcut - if I haven't got glasses on it's not always easy to find the camera shortcut icon when I need it in a hurry. It worked great. It's a shame to waste memory space on a launcher sitting in the rom unused.

You can easily change the Launcher included in the ROM by booting your phone into recovery mode (holding volume + and - keys and power-button) then connect it to a pc and find the launcherpro.apk in /system/app and replace it with the launcher you want to use. I found it more responsive by doing this way then installing a new Launcher-app on the custom one included in the ROM.
This way you can modify the ROM's to use apps that you wan't to use, example other browsers, email- and contact - apps...

Thanks. I had read that in a post here but it didn't sink in.
So is there a particular reason for embedding these apk's in the ROM?

I've experienced a more responsive launcher doing this way
I also got a laggy launcher pro when i updated 0.8.5 -> 0.8.6 through market. When i replaced it in /system/app it worked great again.
It's also good to know if you wan't to remove stock apps you never use..
I found this fix on a another forum here:

This problem was driving me nuts so I tried it on my Epic and it's worked great so far. Give it a try if you're having similar issues with Launcherpro or other memory intensive launcher like ADW. You'll be glad you did!

When TE doesn't give you an error message after hitting enter, its usually a good thing I actually did not have the issues w/ redrawing of the homes screen on EF02, but the EXPERIMENTAL 3D App Drawer does give me an issues on GB, were it doesn't scroll properly, it kinda jumps from the top of the drawer to the bottom, not allowing one to select any apps in b/w. I was hoping for this to fix that issue, but it did not....thanks anyways!
There are some additional tips on this forum like setting memory usage and home screen caches to light. Also, disabling auto rotation helps a lot.
http://www.launcherpro.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2652&hilit=Redraw
I attached a picture of my settings. I also have 3D drawer enabled, droid hack disabled, auto rotate off, memory usage preset and home screen cache type to light. I have five 6 column, 7 row homescreens loaded with widgets and shortcuts, and static wallpaper. I have easily 150+ apps on my phone. It used to redraw 50-70% of the time when exiting an app, now it's smooth as butter. It's totally changed my phone experience for the better.
I am on an EC05 rom.

I'm confused about the memory usage settings and which settings are best. Wouldn't higher memory usage yield better results?

This seemed to work for GoLauncher as well, it is nice not to have to wait 5 seconds for the launcher to reload every time I browse the web with multiple tabs or play a game for a while.
I'm not sure if it is my imagination but I think my battery life has gotten worse.. I will give it some more time to make sure.
I had this problem and my phone constantly vibrating like something was Force Closing, on stock Launcher. Before I rooted I went to Samsung recovery, and cleared all caches 5 times. And everything was fine, even when I redownloaded LauncherPro using LauncherPro widgets like friend feeds, and calander. Youtube widget and sence analog clock.

Even Go sometimes has this issue. The problem is the memory management is killing the background cache. The only real fix I found was to not have as many constant apps running in the background.
thanks for the fixes.

Go Launcher EX surpasses it in every way and its free,Zeam launcher isnt bad eather but not as rich on featureas and themes.

Agreed, the primary reason I use it is for the app drawer folders, makes it much easier to organize/find apps.
The only problem with Go Launcher (other than the previous reloading issue) is with the car dock, it restarts every time it is plugged/unplugged from the dock.
Agree with using Go Launcher EX as well. I jumped from LauncherPro too and never looked back. The devs of Go Launcher EX are constantly updating it and squeezing out the bugs.

Hi,
I have a kindle fire powered with cm7. I really love it but I have some issues. I've searched for all but could not find a related post. Sorry if already explained.
1. I've heard people say its really smooth. I don't always get this feeling. In desktop transitions there is sometimes disturbing lag. Also in some apps it is much less smooth compared to my htc incredible s. I wiped cache dalvik and system as suggested. is there anyone that have it perfectly smooth? Or any suggestions to fix it?
2. Volume is sometimes not enough even with a good pair of headphones. is there a way to increase the maximum volume.
3. Icons and text are too small. I can change ro.sf.lcd_density in build.prop, but then status bar icons get huge. is there another way to change only icon size?
thanks for the help!

1. I am not experiencing any lag during transitions... especially not disturbing lag ;-) Have you tried the modified build.prop for CM7 found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424068
2. Not sure.
3. The icon size is set by the launcher and not by CM7. Have you tried using GO Launcher Pro, they are pretty huge by default.
I used go launcher back in stock rom. I installed it again now, I see it is better than adw, you can set icon size and transitions are smoother.
Thanks for reminding.
If you want smooth (and don't mind the price) look at SPB Shell in Market. Picks up the fact it's running on a 1024x600 device and activates the Tablet mode.
The reason for the lag is that CM7 comes with ADW.Launcher which for whatever reason seems really laggy on pretty much anything I've used it on. Try ADW EX ($3.99 in market) or Launcher Pro plus. Both have fully hardware accelerated interfaces that for me run ios smooth on the Kindle and on my 1st Gen HTC Evo.
ADW EX also has an option in the icon settings menu for "density hack" which makes the icons bigger and more tablet optimized.
Not sure about your sound issue so sorry on that one. Hope my other tid bits help.

Well, Go launcher solved smoothness problems in launcher, but in some programs its still much less smoother than my HTC Incredible S.

I do not use the density hack. I usually just use the small icons so I can't say to that.
BTW, Launcher Pro plus runs much smoother on the kindle than ADW EX. ADW EX is superior on my phone but Launcher Pro likes the hardware on the kindle. Just throwing it out there for anyone looking for a resolution to the "disturbing lag" lol. ;-)

#2 - Volume level can be increased natively within CM7. Under apps, go to "DSPManager" -> Select the device (ie speaker) -> Enable the Equalizer and turn up all green bars to max which effectively creates a custom EQ profile.
this is just a shot in the dark but, dalingrin wrote an app for the Nook color called nook color tweaks, and one of the things it does is let it adjust the gain and stuff which allows your speaker to get louder. i know its for the nook color, but i think its worth a shot. its free in the market
