I have searched the web and cannot find anything that works. I have the a500 and go to Penn State. My EVO 4G connects with the free wifi there with no problem but my tablet will not work.
My tablet will connect but the indicator on the bottom right that is normally blue will be gray. It will have both up and down arrows blinking but it stays gray and says it is connected.
I rooted my tablet and tried the adhoc patch but that didn't do anything to help. I have no problem connecting at home. I am currently using my evo as a wifi tether for the tablet while at school but it kills my phones battery. Is there anything else I can try?
my first move
First go into your wifi settings and forget the network settings - then try again.
If that does not work - contact the support people for the network you are trying to connect to.

After connecting to 3 different wireless connections and none of then working, I'm concluded that my wifi isn't working.
I go to settings and check wifi on, it finds the network, connects, but I lose my entire data connection for the duration wifi is turned on!
Is anyone else having this problem?
Sent from my Samsung Vibrant
I'm having the same issues with the wifi. I downloaded wifi analyzer to make sure I was on a good channel. Set it to the best channel and my signal strength is 100%. I will be able to connect for a little bit but for some reason it goes in and out, connection unsuccessful, yada yada yada. I messed with all the troubleshooting solutions for my router (dgl-4300) but nothing works. If anyone can reply with a fix or point me in the right direction, that would be greatly appreciated.
Same Issues
Any help is greatly appreciated. Data working fine when on 3G but Wifi = no data. Connection is fine, IP is fine.
UPDATE: It's working again on my home WIFI. Will have to see if it's just an "at work" issue. Hopefully IT can assist.
Same problem with Verizon MiFi
I have had ZERO problems connecting to the Linksys access points we have setup at my home and my office, but recently my work provided me with a Verizon MiFi (as well as an iPad - don't hate ) and I've had MANY issues trying to get my Vibrant to consistently connect to the MiFi.
My iPad, Motorola Droid, and Laptop have no issues connecting to the MiFi.
On my Vibrant I'm running the 2.1 stock ROM with root & the latest ClockWork recovery.
It will "connect" to the MiFi (I use quotes because I can't really tell - it AT LEAST receives an IP). But I'm unable to send and receive data. I can't even browse to the MiFi's internal configuration page .
To FINALLY get it to connect consistently I have to do some kind of random combo toggling the wifi off and back on and then turning the MiFi off and back on and it will EVENTUALLY connect and stay connected with data flowing freely.
I've customized my configuration a little bit on the MiFi so I'm going to reset it back to factory and not change the config to see if it makes a difference - because at lunch I was able to connect to my boss' MiFi with no problem. I'm thinking it may either be the phone or the mifi...
I've connected to about 10 different wireless networks with NO issues, at all. The connectivity is actually much better than my G1/Nexus.
HOWEVER, last night at a bar I was connected to their wifi, strong signal, but I was not able to use Data. I was in a very poor reception area for T-Mobile... don't think that could be an issue, bit the other places I use wi-fi that is not the case.
I just chalked it up as a fluke and moved on. Not sure what was wrong.
I had this happen to me today. I just rebooted and it went away. Toggling wifi didn't help, but I only tried it once. The phone reboots so quick I figured I'd give it a try.
I have set the phone up manually with static ip. Seems like its a problem with the dhcp.

Hi All,
I wondering if someone can help me out. I rooted my epic and installed the latest android wifi tether and everything seems to be going okay as I am able to start tether and see the normal tether screen displaying Download 0.4kB and Upload of 0.3kB.
However i am not able to see connect correctly on my laptop. In the laptop, under wireless network connections, i see EpicTether (which i choose as the ssid) but the icon (right of the word EpicTether) looks different than the icons from my home wifi router. The EpicTether's icon is three blue boxes in the shape of a triangle where my home wifi shows the normal guage of wifi connectivity strength. I am using windows 7 premium by the way.
I've tried changing the channels on the epic, tried enable access-control under settings to no avail...
can someone please help? thanks.
Android WiFi tether is an Ad-Hoc network (device to device), not an infrastructure network like your home wifi is. That's why the icon is different.
Why it cannot connect could be 1000000 different things. Is the laptop part of a company domain and its possible that policies are preventing connection to an AdHoc type connection?
Thanks for the explanation. so that icon is normal.
My laptop is not a company laptop, it is pretty basic for home surfing use.

"pretty basic" to me translates as "should connect" lol. Not sure where you should go from there. I have heard lots of windows 7 ad hoc issues though. Search around google for "Windows 7 cant connect to ad hoc" and see what kind of fixes you see.
Thanks again.... made some success...
i read that the intel drivers for the internal wireless card may need updated drivers for the ad-hoc....
installed the new drivers and am able to connect now!... but will not provide me internet access.
Restart the computer (usually works most times), and or try releasing and renewing I.P address.
At home I'm connected to my wifi no problem. Took the kids out to some playland that advertised open wifi and my a500 wouldn't connect. It said 'optaining IP address' and that's it, no go. Kept stopping it, telling it to forget it, and on the try again I would get the same thing.
Since my phone connected to the wifi no problem, thought I would piggyback off of it via wireless tether. My a500 recognized it and connected no problem, said the signal was excellent. However if I actually tried to do anything on the a500 nothing would happen. Web browser couldn't pull anything up and apps kept saying there was no network connection.
Any ideas on what I was screwing up?
Hi I've got problem with my N7 and maybe anyone else experienced it and have some solutions to this ?
After not using my N7 for little longer when I try to wake it up it doesn't connect to wi-fi automatically. I mean the wi-fi icon is there and wi-fi is ON but the icon is grey. I have to turn the wi-fi off and on in settings then icon in right upper corner of the screen gets blue again and I can browse internet etc.
It's not really a big deal but it can be frustrating sometimes, especially when you wait ages for page to load and then you realize that wi-fi is dead again.
I've got my N7 only two days but this already happened like 5 times.
Got other devices that connect to the same router and they are all working fine. HTC HD7, Nitendo 3DS, Acer Laptop, PS3.
Using D-Link router with WPA-Personal WPA-2 Only security settings.
Any idea how to fix this ?

Mine is grey as well after waking, but I can browse just fine with the Grey icon... No idea why.

No problem here with Linksys WRT54GS running OpenWRT firmware and also my phone's hotspot. It's probably the crappy firmware in your Dlink access point router. Try a newer version from Dlink or try an alternative from OpenWRT, Tomato, etc.
I've got latest firmware on my router.
Tried to change settings in my N7 with static IP but that didn't helped either.
same issue here
I have the same problem on my N7. It's the same whether I'm using it on my Airport Extreme or wrt54g.
Wake from sleep, see WiFi status icon all gray, no internet access. Turn WiFi off then on, reconnects and I'm on my way. Very annoying after the 50th+ time.
Mine wakes up in airplane mode and I have to press the power button to turn airplane mode off.
When the wifi icon is grey, it just mean that you´re not connected to Google Servers, but you can still use the internet.
When it connect to google servers the icon turns blue.
And i think that when the screen goes off it disconnect from google servers, and then it try to connect again when the device is waked up.
I did not know that. I learned something new today!
Bit ot, what about the bluetooth icon? Most of the time it is gray connected with tablet talk. Sometimes blue? Really thought the icons just did not refresh right away.

Hello guys
I bought Nexus 7 (2012 Wi-Fi only model) a couple of weeks back. I had the option to update the OS to 4.3 and I did so soon after. Haven't rooted the device.
I have been experiencing issue with Nexus connecting to my broadband internet connection. Connection keeps dropping every now and then. I get the "connection timed out" error message. The wifi indicator at the top remains in blue color and sometimes goes to grey. I'm guessing the black symbol over the blue wifi signal indicator represents the data transfer. That symbol keeps toggling.
The Wi-Fi signal strength is strong and I'm pretty sure that's not the issue. My other devices, dell laptop and iPod Touch work fine with the same connection. I tried Internet sharing on my phone which has a 3G connection and connected my Nexus to that wifi hotspot, and it works fine! The problem is when I connect to my broadband connection.
I have done my part of searching on this topic and have tried some things like, the Wifi Fixer app, meddling with the modem settings like with the IP address, DNS; nothing helped.
Any suggestion/help would be appreciated.
