Voodoo Colour vs stock - Galaxy S I9000 General

Title is self-explanatory really. What are the visual differences between Voodoo colour and stock? Screenshots will be nice.

screenshots would be uselles as voodoo color affects the screen driver and its effect is only visible on a physical device itself...
about colors in a nutshell:
stock is just stock - ****ed up gamma, no control over temperature whatsoever, also oversharpened. some screens have massive blue or yellow tint.
voodoo color gives you ability to control each RGB channel and gamma individualy which is the only cure for that tint, also better gamma table... but some say it doesn't look good on some devices, even the creator supercurio doesn't encourage devs to implement vc. Personally I use only kernels with vc because my screen has massive blue tint.
There is also color improvement done by hardcore which is implemented in few kernels arround, again, it provides great results for some users, but mostly for devices with neutral color temperature.
so if you have neutral stock colors, go for speedmod color fix, if you have some color tint which you want to get rid of, go for voodoo color

i just can get voodooo to work on the ics with glados v2.3 kernel...

i mean i CANT...

Ideally, we need an app to change colour on stock kernels. Like this on i9100 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1366280.
Unfortunately it doesn't work on i9000.
Interestingly, this "mdnie switcher" does work on our device (at least on galaxian kernel that I have tested) to let you change modes is "warm" "cold" etc that you find in the video app plus more http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/35944-samsung-galaxys2-mdnie-switcher-for-color-profiles/
Not as useful as an app that lets you modify the color with sliders :S
I believe this app must be possible. After all, galaxy tuner did it on froyo (doesn't work on gingerbread though).

You can adjust RGB levels with slider in chainfire3D Nightmode function.
Supercurio is also planing to make an app like that (here in its current state) and to disable voodoo colour as it is right now (he considers it deprecated).

Thanks, I hadn't heard that before. Good to know he is working on it, hope he releases something functional soon!

Tweaked Voodoo Color Settings

I have decided to post these voodoo color settings that I felt is closest to stock Samsung color settings with a little extra pop and better black. I never messed with voodoo color until I realized that all the good OC/UV kernels for CM7.1 have voodoo color enabled with voodoo color settings way too warm for my liking. I am sure most of you prefer to have white whites and not orange whites. Here are my voodoo color settings and please let me know if you like them. Please feel free to post your tweaked settings here.
Color profiles:
Original
Screen RGB multipliers:
Red = 3507556800
Green = 3507556800
Blue = 3855244480
Screen v1 gamma hack:
-35 red
-38 green
-35 blue
I have been tweaking colors all week and I just posted my updated settings.

Looks great when brightness is not minimum or auto. It gets a nasty green overlay. But other than that looks good on MIUI to me

Looks awesome on MIUI. Thanksss!!
EDIT: whats with this nasty green when screen turns off?!
This thread should be in the general section...
Best results are gamma all the way down to have to bright whites and darkest darks while the RGB multipliers should be all the way up for a brighter richer display.
Those settings go hand and hand with no ugly green screen..
Rensorek you are right. These settings only look good with full brightness which is the only way I roll.

ive been using these settings for a while now if u want ur screen low but dont want that green over lay set the brightness to 1% if that doesnt work 2% or 3%
These can't be applied in froyo 2.2.1? I have the bali 1.8.8 kernel and a JVJPM modded arabic rom by jelette. I have the voodoo control app but I don't get color settings options in them.

only work on CM7 based roms using a custom kernel that supports voodoo color.
how do you do this on miui?
nevermind i found it, I had to reflash the kernel.
Thanks for the color suggestions. Tried a few that made colors very vibrant, but I find the gamma settings a bit dark when viewing pictures.
Here's my tweaked version:
RGB:
Red = 2300875360
Green = "
Blue = 2791728640
Gamma:
Red = -18
Green = -11
Blue = -12 or -11

I dont mean to sound like an ass, but that is one of Glitch kernel's biggest downfalls to me. The colors are WAY off, whites are so off its not even funny. I spent 2 days trying to get the whites to look white and the colors to look right and it just doesnt look right. That was partly the reason why i went back to stock/TW stuff.

HABEEB IT!
turn the gamma settings down low to get good contrast and better blacks and whites. then tweak them to your screen and do the rgb multipliers however you want. every phone is different but the gamma down low with your own rgb settings will probably make things much more vivid.

It's true that the colors in Glitch kernel are not at best, but tweaking them like sageDieu said really improve them. Every phone is different, but every user too..!
how would i go about changing these settings?

You need to be on the Glitch kernel and install the Voodoo Control application from the market. Then scroll down in the app near the bottom and play with the color settings.
I found these are the best for my phone

Lack of voodoo color support?

I don't know if its just me but almost every kernel that I've used that supports voodoo color I can't adjust the gamma values. Is this an ICS thing? Sorry if this is a stupid question

You probably have i9023 variant of Nexus S, which has SLCD not Samoled. Voodoo color only works on Samoled display.

Nah, I have the T-Mobile variant, the i9020t. Voodoo Color was working fine I think back on air kernel 3.5 I would just have the green screen bug cause of my gamma values but now my gamma values don't do anything only if i raise them, which makes my colors appear darker? By default my screen looks a little washed out color wise.

That's not a voodoo color problem. I remember that r_data did that on purpose to eliminate green screen thing. If you don't like it, you can always use a different kernel.

Thats the thing I've tried different kernels with voodoo color support and its all the same thing. :/ I'd love to use Air's kernel if my colors didn't look so washed out to begin with

Screen Colours

Upgraded to the One Plus X from my 3 year old Samsung Galaxy S3 (you have served me well) and the first thing I noticed is that the colours on my S3 are more vibrant the One Plus X -_-
It's because color temperature in OPX is set to high. It's probably over 8000K instead of 6300K, which results in blue tint, more vibrant blue and green color and washed out reds, oranges and other warm colors.

Can IT BE Fixed
Sure.
Either OP fixes color temperature with next update or they implement color temperature slider in Oxygen OS, which will allow you to set it by yourself.
If not, then there are and will be custom kernels that will allow color calibration (I'm not sure if blu_spark kernel supports it, but I think so).
Simple solution to all of this, is to flash a custom kernel and use kcal to tweak the screen the way you want it to be.

Google or srgb?

Hey People, i was wondering what all of us are using as screen settings and why.
For me srgb looks certainly more accurate but White are yelloish, they look better on Google's calibration settings but then colors are too saturated... So for now i still haven't made my choice. How about you? What do you use?
Well I'm running DU ROM which comes with a custom kernel. To me, stock colors don't pop enough. I left the RGB values alone and simply bumped my saturation to 35. Display looks great at this setting for me. I've tried a hundred different display settings and for me this one looks the best. I use kernel adiutor to adjust my display settings
Thanks mate, still haven't made up my mind as to routine n6p should i need assistance for it.... Take YouTube screens for instance, that red punches Soo much to me
Running custom kernel and I use the same profiles that I used on my N6 to get 6500k.
I'm using screen adjuster +8 on blue
Gives better whites... Anyone tried color screen filter from play store? Might give some more options I think
I use 100% stock screen settings. I like the way Amoled looks. SRGB looks washed out and boring, even if I compare it with my Nexus 5 (2013) screen.
