Hi all. My stock Legend running 2.2 SFR seems to have a problem with the home button. Pressing it when in an app no longer brings me to the home screen. However the long press still brings up the recent app menu. I'm thinking that it is a mechanical fault, and that the long press somehow gets over it where short presses don't register.
Any other ideas?

Your HTC Launcher may be corrupted, try installing ADW or LauncherPro, to see if something happens when you push Home button.
Edit : You can also try "Home switcher for froyo"
Will do. I'll let you know. Thanks.

have it too some times
i'll get the right tork tonight to open my legend to see if there is dust under the buttons
I've got similar bug, but can't reproduce it reliably - it comes and goes. But I noticed that it happens more often in the areas of slower networks (EDGE or GPRS) and also sometimes it looks like widgets on my home screen are re-launched (not enough RAM so OS kicks something out?).
If you have "stable glitch" try to remove all widgets from your home screen (and maybe all screens) and see if troubles disappear...

Back in the dark days when I had an iPhone there was an app called QuickLock. By touching it, it would shut the screen off the same as hitting the power button on the Galaxy S. Does anyone know of or better yet tried an app that does this?
Thanks
Even better to me is to emulate what "activator" in iPhone could do, which allows users to configure their preferred gesture for blanking the screen. I chose to slide my finger from the home button up. This method is superior to pressing the button as in Quicklock because it does not require the user to come to the desktop to look for the icon. In other word, you can enter off the screen from anywhere. I like it especially on my iPad, because the case is designed in a way that makes pressing the power button a little difficult to effect.

I can't find this application in the market place (Australia is where I am).
Ive noticed recently sometimes when using the softkey home, back or menu I sometimes need to press them 2 or more times.
For instance dolphin browser sometimes if you had scrolled down thn back button would just return where you were, so you would need 2 or more backs to actually go back a page.
With this softkey issues combined with dolphins inherent behavior i habe neess to press back 8 or more times to actually go back. I had to set up aswope left gssture in dolphin to force a previous page.
The touch screen can be either unresponsive, or too responsive in certain situations. It's a little frustrating sometimes, especially when I'm trying to show people how cool the device is, only to press something accidentally, or have to press something multiple times.
So, you're not alone in your pain! I think there are a few posts on here that mention the same thing.
Ya I've noticed this as well especially when in a game app when trying to exit, I have to hit it several times, I think it is more of a software issue, hopefully Amazon will fix it in a future update, I've already sent some feedback to them about the issue. Perhaps if enough people send in some negative feedback, Amazon will respond.

I've noticed this as well; it's very picky on how it wants to be pushed. You have to know how to push it's button to get it to do anything, much like a woman.
Yep, same problem here.
Same thing here. I'm glad I'm not the only one. My worst seems to be the back button, followed by the menu button. My home button almost always works.
Hopefully custom ROMs will fix this.

I've noticed that it mostly does this with amazon's own bits. Update would fix it.

Ok so its not just me. I know my aim is good because at angle I see it highlighted then normal after I release. But yes back the most then menu. Home I think has worked first touch.
Side note ive also had issues sometimes when tapping an area to type in that after 3 or 4 letters the keyboard auto hides. Typing urls and google searches
Oh wow, google wasn't known word for default keyboard.
Guys,
is anyone else having problems when coming out of an app to find nothing on the home screen? all apps widgets disappear. I have to reboot to fix this.
I noticed someone else having this problem on another forum but there's no mention of any fix. Any solutions??

Ok I think i've found a solution to this issue. It appears to be a fault with the stock launcher. I'm using another launcher now (not stock) and i'm not having any issues yet.

i've also discoverd that, but if you remember wherer one of app icons is on the home screen just hit it and when its starts hit the back key, then it should all be there again

I've been experiencing this from time to time, and have been rebooting to resolve. I'll try your approach next time. This issue has been in the background for me, as I"m really wound up with the random, spontaneous reboot issue, but it is annoying when it happens. C'mon ASUS with an OTA fix to all of this.
have you got any widgets on your home screen?
remove them and try again

I did not had this issue since I updated to ics.
It only happened on hc, after 3 or 4 days with no reboot and many installations.
As you my only way to solve it was to reboot. Or you may try to kill the launcher, to force it to reboot. I got it working some times.

i tried tapping all over the screen when i had the problem. However, since changing the launcher I don't seem to be having any problems now.

We've been having some conversation about this issue here, maybe something we've discussed might help you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1516744
My problem is that the stock browser will suddenly and inexplicibly crash. Never happened before ICS.
I also observed the same issue of black home screens with stock launcher and now switched to ADW EX, and no issue.
One observation though this may be not the exact reason: I observed this issue only after installing the Volume+ app, before than this, I did not observe the issue after upgrading to official ICS, only yesterday after installing Volume+ app, I observed this issue twice and then switched to ADW EX launcher.

The stock hc browser crashed fairly often for me. Only once or twice with ICS and now it remembers the tabs open during the crash.

It happens to me sometimes and fixes itself when I touch the screen even without actually launching an app.
You can make the apps re-appear by swiping to one of the other home screens. I have a suspicion that there's something wrong with the draw call for the launcher. The apps are still there, they're just not drawn to the screen. Swiping left or right to one of the other home screens causes a draw call to occur again at which point the apps re-appear.
Also noticed that the camera pop occurs whenever I see the white triangle on the screen. Probably related to that.
I've noticed that after pressing the home button and swiping between menues there is a VERY SMALL, yet noticeable lag. Sometimes the clock/weather widget reloads. It was like this out of the box the first day. Then you start swiping between homescreens and its gone and everything is smooth as butter literally.
I saw this in one of the review videos too. Hopefully a software update addresses this. Somewhat annoying as the phone has 2GB of memory.

Same here... Swiping the home screen is smooth but returning to the home screen via the home button causes a 1 second delay...
I have also noticed the clock / weather widget refreshes when returning to home screen from apps at times...
Overall it's not big deal and I am sure it will be fixed in the next update...
yes~!!! this is one of the annoying parts of this phone.
it isn't performance related either. in nova launcher i have it set that pressing home when at the default screen brings up the app drawer. doing so causes the same fraction-of-a-second delay. but pressing the actual app drawer button on the screen is immediate. something in the Android software is causing this delay between button-push and action.
Thought it was just me.
I'm going to root it and flash ultimatum. Hopefully it gets rid of it.

Thanks guys. Glad to see its not just my phone. Its by no means bad, just annoying. The home button needs to be more responsive. Hopefully in a software update. If this is all we have to worry about then I'm good.
Yea. Same goes for me, tried both apex and nova just to test if the lag depends on the launcher. I'm on apex now though, a bit less laggy than nova.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Nova with fancy widgets (sense style clock) and voice disabled not really seeing any lag.
There is a setting you can turn off to fix this home button delay actually.
What you do is
1. Go to apps
2. Find "S-Voice" and open it
3. Hit settings button
4. In settings there is a option for "Launch S Voice" near the top of the settings.
5. Click the box to stop it from launching S-Voice when you hit the home button.
6. Now the home button works very quickly, no more second delay.

thank you
you are awesome.
The delay is there because if you double tap the home button it brings up SVoice, so it gives a small Window waiting for the second press before going to the home screen.

There is still a lag after unchecking the S Voice launch option. I hope this can be fixed.
I wonder if the Exynos version has any noticeable lag or delay?
I actually completely disabled S-Voice and see no lag
Menu > Settings > Application Manager > All > S-Voice > Disable

If I wanted to be a "talking to your cell phone like its a person" douche I would have bought an iPhone. Keep your dignity and just type in whatever you're trying to do, it will probably take less time then getting the voice recognition to get it right
TW is pretty weak for a launcher though.. I put on my ol' trusty ADW launcher and no lag to be seen there..

The one and only thing I ever use android's voice recognition for -- and you don't even need S-Voice for this -- is setting alarms, because it's quicker than doing it manually and very accurate.
e.g.: "set alarm forty five minutes"
lol, didn't yall watch any reviews on Youtube? They stated there's a slight delay because it's waiting for a second press for S-Voice. I thought everyone knew that.
Not when pressing the home. When swiping through home screens. There is a slight delay. Its Ever so noticeable. More so when having a few widgets on the home screen.

Yep. It's only brief, then everything is smooth is butter.
Well, I have 3 home screens so I don't really care. I had 2 on my SGS2.
I have a stock rooted G2 (4.2.2). I deleted some bloatware, only the obvious ones. Otherwise, it's mostly untouched. I've been experiencing 2 minor issues. The first one is I'm trying to send a text to one particular person, but sometimes she gets blank texts. She has an iphone. Any ideas?
Question 2 is, sometimes when I'm playing a game, it will suddenly quit and go to my home screen. Thoughts?
I don't think me deleting anything has anything to do with it. Any help would be great. This is an otherwise excellent phone.
1. If you put in a emoji it gets converted to mss. That might be the issue for the iPhone to download or show
2 it might be the game with bad support. Or you hitting the home key
To be sure hold in home key to view recent apps and enter your game. If it keeps going on from where it minimized its probably you hitting the home key ?

1. Might be possible that it's the emoji. I'll keep that in mind when texting her.
2. It happens across multiple apps and I have soft keys hidden so i'm not hitting the home key
Weird I have no fc issues
