The bravo's camera is awful. My mom's flipside has a 3mp camera and it takes much better pictures than my bravo. Is there any way that can be improved? I saw on defy that they made it to where the green lense could record 720p? So maybe its possible on the bravo?
replace it with defy's camera, what will happen?
I'm not really a tech guy. It would be interesting though
It is said, replace camara sensor with defy's,flash MB525'S rom, Camera quality will be perfact.
it is said, but any brave souls willing to go under the knife?
i replaced it ,something goes wrong.the color of image looks ugly, purple. camera can't save the picture to the device.

So, is that the end?
Will someone else try it?

hey, i just got a att 8525 and i'm wondering if there is a fix or what are the settings you guys use to get the most out of this camera.
thank you.
I don't really use the camera that much. It's OK in a pinch, where I might just need a quick snapshot of something that doesn't require much detail, sharpness, or image quality.
Considering the tiny nobrand lens, the always-loose macro switch, the unusable (except as a flashlight, thank you VJay) LED Flash, and the tiny 2MP CCD sensor ... I don't thinnk you're going to be in competition with Ansel Adams anytime soon.
When I need to do serious photography, I have a dSLR for that.
No fix or settings that I can think of are going to make the camera anything more than it is, a cellphone camera (and note that the word CELLPHONE comes first).

theres gotta be something that can be done to imporve it....

Wow, just how BAD are your pictures coming out? Are you trying to shoot in daylight or is the lighting very dim? Are you sure you're setting the camera up to produce 2MP shots? Or are you stuck on burst mode or something?
I mean, I don't USE the camera for much, but I feel I'm getting what it's capable of doing? Attached are a couple of shots I have taken. They aren't very good, but they aren't totally unusable.
What kind of results are you getting?

I found that using Cool Camera yielded me much better pictures. The settings are much easier to change and the lag between clicking the trigger and the actual picture popping up is much quicker.
Not only that, but Cool Camera enables the LED as a proper flash, not just a flashlight that you have to keep turning on. Click the trigger, the flash fires off, picture is taken, more like a proper camera.
Check it out here:

It's the second file, CoolCamera v1.15.
It seems to have artifacts that you only get on an interpolated camera... Or maybe I am just imagining it?
Does anyone know if the camera is a true native 5MP device? Anyone got details on the actual sensor used?

Probably compression artifacts.. Unfortunately I know of no way to look at a jpg and see what the compression was, but you can guess by how large the image is, assuming it's a fairly complex image..
For a reasonably complex image, 5MP should be around 2M if the compression was low, a fairly high level of compression would possibly be more around 1M. Again, there's no way to really definitively tell.
Any way to save as raw?

What does interpolated mean

from what I heard atleast, the htc camera app in general heavily compresses the images which may be causing the artifacts you are seeing. It was suggested to me to try out some 3rd party camera apps that don't compress the image or atleast not as much.
Vignette was suggested to me, but I've yet to try it out. I've read it has some problems with 5mp cameras. I'm still searching around to see what would be my best option.

Thanks for the recommendation on Vignette. The photo quality is SO much better than with the stock camera app.
I noticed that the photos I take come out quite grainy and noisy. Perhaps someone can guide me on the proper settings to use? Or is noise simply unavoidable due to the Aria's low end (??) camera hardware?

It's a cameraphone, it's going to be grainy and noisy unless it has very good lighting. Even then it'll be soft and featureless because it's a cheap sensor with a cheap plastic lens.
It's not a real camera.
Hello
anyone have any tips for getting the most from the camera? just using the stock cam, but unless the photo is taken with the lighting from the sun, it looks abit poo
anyone have any tips for making it that tiny bit better?
Get vignette. It is a paid app but totally worth it.
CLEAN THE LENS.
There's so many threads on here with pictures from people's phones, and they're all fuzzy because the lens has something on it. Even if you can't see anything, wipe the lens before taking a photo.

Tbh vigette is actually, i just take the pictures using the stock camera app and from there i just edit the pictures using vigette

well generally x10 camera suffers from over exposing, and pictures lack of contrast and they are bit washed out. Stock camera app has greatest usabillity, because yu can choose macro and sport modes (with others aswell) nad you can change exposure, but in terms of image processing it is worst, because it uses highest JPEG compression(think they improved it in 2.1) and colours al always pale (except reds).
Vignete is good cause it uses flash, and uses minimum JPEG compression but they are both behind Camera 360 app, which has best image processing.
EDIT: I added a reply from Tuxstyle on one simillar topic I started:
"Well, more important than those modes is:
- use the EV compensation.
go with it minus one or two steps and keep the sun behind you.
also, lowering the EV helps in low light too because will reduce the ISO.
ofcourse, in low light you will need better hands
- another very very important thing is: metering modes.
for macro images use spot (also use spot if you have most of the image around your object with one color: ex. a kid in the snow. in this case camera will do the metering where your focus point is ... the kid ... so the kid will be "better exposed").
use average for landscapes and other "wide" images ....
center ... well, for close stuff.
- do not enable image stabilization.
trust your hands
the camera on X10 is compressing the images way too much so, they become soft.
image stabilization will make them even more soft than that.
What i don't like about the X10 camera is the focus.
I have no idea how is choosing the focus point(s) so, i decided the camera app is crap.
I started to use vignette but is slow as a pig riding a donkey so, i moved on.
Camera360 is working fine.
You have time to wait for the pic to be saved and you know you won't loose a good shot?
Vignette is better. Better quality and best focus from this 3 apps.
Camera 360?
Focus almost as good as vignette.
Quality almost as good as vignette but if you zoom a little you can see the difference.
Speed? A Ferrari vs. Ford Focus (not RS ) if you compare it with Vignette
Hope this helps."
camera takes shocking blury picture with the slights movemonts..... how do I fix this? The first Apple iPhone hasn't got this problem.... why do we have it on our new HTC phones ? I'm so wishing I never got this phone
lol, why don't you sell it then
There's nothing you can fix as it's not broken, why not try some camera apps, perhaps you might get better luck with them. Personally, I have no problems with any of it.
If you're taking pictures/video in low light it will start to blur. This is because the camera will try to get more light to the sensor for better, brighter images.
To "fix" this go to camera app>menu>image adjustments and set exposure to -2 and sharpness to -1 or -2. The image will be much darker now, but atleast you'll be able to record videos in darker places at 30fps.
RobSimmo is right, why don't you sell it then? I'm sure your iphone is much better.

yep it is proven that low light capturing will result in blurry images. one of our forumer hamdir posted a very (I mean it) useful thread regarding camera. suggest that you have a read through it and play around with the configuration. this guide help me a lot!
edit with link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875230
One thing I've noticed is that turning off your Auto focus feature will actually help you to get rid of those blurry shots. Turn it to manual focus instead.
But wait! Why don't you buy a camera? clap clap
Right, enough being off -topic an mean It's just how HTC always built its phones. The camera failed always

I would love to sell it but I just got locked into a 2 year contract with Vodafone.... I don't think people are hearing what I'm saying..... this camera takes amazing pics but for you to take really good pics you MUST hold the phone 100% still can't move it one bit.... how am I meant to take a picture in a night club and be 100% still.....do you get me ? Other phones can do it ?
Try the app Vignette which has anti shake setting
There are a few threads on defy- camera, here's one for defy+.
The camera is so bad, that I cursed the phone right after I took a few pictures. My Samsung spica was taking better pics with the 3,5mp sensor without flash and low light. Even on a bright sunny day the pics are lacking detail and have some noticeable noise. On low light - there is more noise than picture
I have applied the 720p panorama tweak and nothing.
So, as I expect more from a 5mp sensor, here are some questions - is there a way to tweak the camera, so the noise in low light becomes less(possibly none) and add some more detail to the pics, can we expect some quality improvement in an update some day, or should I sell this crap and buy xperia neo V?
If you need proof for my complains - I'll post some pics.

Not the best way to respond to someone who is trying to help you. Change your attitude and you might get some help...
try another apllication for taking photos
use camera 360 for excellent photos
Done that too. Even lg camera and vignette don't do the job. There is some .bin files about camera in system/etc, but I don't know how to handle them.

This patch will enable 720p and panorama for Defy+ Gingerbread Motorola Base Roms..
Hope this will help you..

The same problem here. I had Defy normal and camera was quite good and photos was really sharp but now I have Defy+ and noise is extremely bad. Yesterday I flashed it with 4.5.1-134, 4.5.3-66, 4.5.3-109, MS2Ginger 2.1, and CM7 7.1.0-11 and I was trying stock camera app, HDR+, Vintage Pro and this one in CM and best picture I had from stock camera from 4.5.3-109 but it was really, really worse than stock camera in Defy normal.

The normal defy you mentioned, did it have red lens or green lens?
I also saw a thread saying red lens actually needed more tweaks to take better photos since its more capable...not sure where I saw that.
Guess I wont swap out my camera module on my defy to a red lens.
I did some tests with different settings of the camera. There is something wrong, and I hope it's software, but not hardware. There is noise even in pics taken in a bright sunny day. I can't believe motorola would put such an incapable sensor in our phones. I also noticed that normal defy with green and red lens take better pics. 5800 is even better.
Can someone dig in the camera driver or something. Or we make some noise to motorola, so they fix this joke.

It was green (soc) Defy.
Attached files shows differences between Defy Normal on Green Lens and Defy+ but only on HDR+ cause I don't have more photos from stock camera so Picture B shows differences between CM7 camera in Defy Plus and HDR+.
Pic 1 - Defy Normal HDR+
Pic 2 - Defy Plus HDR+
Pic 3 - Defy Plus CM7 Camera
Pic 4 - Defy Plus HDR+
Does touch focus make your pictures better?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1272525
Nope, noise appears where ever it is dark, or where ever it is brighter. If it's not in the middle of a sunny day - the whole pic is on little annoying dots. Nomatter with or without autofocus.
Yes, the first what I noticed on Defy+ is, that pictures are rly bad. Not in the normal light, but where is a bit dark, there is huge noice. Even my HTC D2 was taking pictures better...hope, that its just some sw problem.
I noticed that when you hold the shutter and focus, the view is much brighter and clean, than the actual image taken after that. As if the focus is lost at taking the shot.
