Thanks
Okay I just got done thanks.

I like CM7 a lot but I'm running Phiremod Nook V6.3. Is very stable and is based on CM7.
I'm just waiting on a good CM7 stable release. The Nightlies are good to try tho.

im still running autonooter and have enjoyed it. but i think im ready to move on now and try cm7. im a n00b so im a little cautious since the directions are way more intensive than the autonooter

If you are going to run from sd card, make sure it is a 8GB or high Sandisk class 2 or 4. As other sd cards run like crap.

It's always a good idea to try SD first, so you don't hurt anything and keep your sanity. Verygreen has a size-agnostic installer that works well, and is very painless.
The tips on keeping your SD card class 4 is right on the money. Faster/newer cards tend to Force Close on us a lot.
Once you have it how you like it, and are comfortable - switch to EMMC install.
Honestly, I've had my NC for about four months now, running off SD and CM7, and have never gone back to the original B+N bootup. One of these days, I'll just shove it all into EMMC and be done.

I am the uber n00b..just got my Nook out of the box a few minutes ago..
Was doing some searches for info on it and found this forum..man have I got a lot of learning to do.
My nook says it has 1.2 on it..so that is good right?
It has absolutely nothing on it now, and I guess my next step is going to buy a good SD card for it...
Is there a "list" of the exact models/sizes you guys prefer..?
Man, I am struggling with all these terms..and to think, until now, I considered myself a "computer guy"..! HA..! What a joke I am!
Please be patient with me..!

If you plan to just load an android rom onto the internal memory, you dont need a big sd card like that. I did that and I love it.

Now I have learned that the term "Class 'X'" refers to the sped of the SD card..learning is fun..yikes!
So I need a CLass 4 or above speed rated card and at least an 8GB SD in size..
Now to figure out the terminology you guys are throwing at me.. "Nightlies?", "CM7?"
Lots to absorb for an old fat man..

Yeah, I "guess" that is what I would want to do..
I would just like to be able to get to the Android market and watch netflix, youtube, tapatalk, iRcon, a few aps really..
My biggest problem, is there seems to be SO MUCH that you can do with these tablets, that I am just not aware of what I "really" would like to do! hahaha
I hate being the n00biest n00b on the board..

The Class X refers to sustained large block read/write speeds, and not the random one. Assuming you're intending to follow verygreen's guide on installing CM7 to the sdcard only, you specifically want a high random read/write speed card to do so. Anecdotal evidence (and lots of it) have shown that Sandisk branded microSDHC's of Class 2/4 work the best.
In terms of size, 4GB is pretty tight but great for simply testing (and cheap too @ 10 bucks from Staples). I use a Class 4, 8GB Sandisk (was only 15 bucks at Radio Shack) which feels much roomier.
Good luck and enjoy!

I'd recommend the cm7 nightly builds. More features, more customizable, all around the best experience to be had out of a custom rom.
For SD Cards, stick with the Sandisk ones, highest class rating you can find and I'm generally a fan of bigger is better when it comes to storage. Even the 32GB ones aren't that expensive anymore.
Definitely have fun with the nook, it's next to impossible to truly kill it, so have fun trying out a whole bunch of stuff. If you break something, just start over!

Thanks so much you guys! You are making me "feel" a lot better about messing with it!
I felt the same way when I got my first iPhone jailbroken, and I never managed to kill any of my phones yet! hahahaha (knock on wood!)
I just found verygreen's post, and that certainly seems ok..
Now to just figure out this winimage thing..yet again, something that a "Real" computer guy should probably know, but something I have never had to deal with..
Thanks again, and I will post updates/failures for you to shake your heads at! hahahah

SD Card Question

I'm new to android phones, and have a very noobish question. I'm wanting to upgrade the SD card in my g2, and am not sure what I should get. I wanted to get a 32 gig card, but I can only find class 4 cards, if I drop to a 16 gig I can get class 6 or class 10 cards. Which one would be the best, I run psx4droid so I do have the games on the card. Other then that everything is ran from the phones internal memory I think, so would a class 4 card be fine or does it really need to be class 6 or better, also is class 10 worth the difference in costs?
I'm still using the stock sd. I don't run games though. Its up to your personal preference. If I was to upgrade i'd get top of the line. They do make a difference in classes but I don't think enough to the point where it will effect your psx gaming. My 2 cents is to go with what your comfortable with.
[G2/HTC Vision]
the classes refer to write speed so dont worry
I'm using a SanDisk 32GB Class 2 card with my Nexus One and it's working well. Speed tests have shown that it is performing slightly better than the Class 4 level.
Thank you everyone for the timely responses and information!
Were r u finding the 32 and how much?

but yea the stock card works great for psx games

[Q] best 32gb for dual boot?

hey guys im new to the hd2 threads and i want to dual boot windows phone 7 and android and i just want to know what kind of 32gb sd cards are the best because i want to partition it to where windows will have 16 and android the other 16 thanks in advance
I wanna bump this but re-phrase his question a little bit.
For anyone using a 32 GB SD card or have tried it for dual booting WP7 and Android - How is it performing? What brand would you recommend? Does class make a difference?
I searched and came to this thread. I have an idea but would like more input in this matter. I need more feedback to make the best decision possible because I plan on triple booting into Ubuntu but sorely lacking space right now. Thanks. And don't be shy to reply.
I'm guessing sandisk, but hold your horses.

Really? I hardly found Sandisk with class more than class 2....
There is a thread that shows the different speeds for sd cards. I found that class 2 Scandisk 8gb is the best preformer.

So have you given 32gb sd card a try? I'm not looking for speed and don't mind a lock up, hiccup, or even random reboot once in awhile. I just want something that works, minimally, at best. Now, if it works but there are constant problems and prevents me from doing certain things on my phone then forget it. I'll have to somehow make room for ubuntu or just plain do without it.

One button?

Alright, I'm wondering how well having a single button works when using the nook as full sized tablet.
my girlfriend has the stock software loaded.. And It works alright for a very casual, no need to get things done fast atmosphere.. (which anyone who buys it as an ereader rather than modders tablet is probably expecting.)
The problem I have is I am use to my phone which has the 4 standard android buttons. I am wondering if I got this, or the kindle fire how well having one or possibly no buttons is going to work.
Just seems like when using it for a full sized tablet, it may get frustrating if you need to do anything fast or your trying to be a bit more productive.
What are your personal experiences?
If you use CM it has softkeys just like all the honeycomb tabs.

Just load it on an SD card (search the forums for verygreens guide). That way her stock stuff will remain intact and all you have to do is remove the card to boot to it.
Yeah, That was my general idea.
It is a very nice feature and I wish that manufacturers would encourage this type of flashing.
It would be awesome if I could just spend 50$ on a few sd cards and load a different rom to reach one to try em out.
hey, if you do go with cm7 you may want to check out joenathane's 2 awesome themes. im currently running with the transformerBread themes and loving it. its vary clean and clear

FYI, you will probably see it, but if you are going the SD card route, try to get a Sandisk card above all others. I was using an a-data card for a while and kept getting random problems. The class isn't as big of a deal, but supposedly the Sandisks have the best random access performance.

Get the Sandisk and keep fingers crossed that it's not a counterfeited.
I already have a kingston 8gb from a while ago.
I may try it just to see.
I don't need perfect performance on a trail run or anything.

[Q] a500 memory?

hello I have been looking all over for how to do this or even if I can. I wish to move all my apps I have gotten off the market to my sd card and run them from their also when ever I download a new one they are saved their too. I am wanting to free up some memory. if it can't be done that sucks but oh well.
just rooted my tablet tonight but still using stock rom. thanks
Not possible in HC. Apps2sd doesn't work, maybe it will with ics...but should be a good while before you fill up even the 8gb model. Been some good comments about using GL 2 sd if you play games though.
k wasn't sure I had a buddy that says his Droid phone saves his apparently to his sd. card but I wasn't sure if I could thanks though

yes, it seems to be a honeycomb limitation, and so the droid can run it, since it will be on 2.2 or 2.3 .
Considering ICS combines the phone and tablet OS, it may start working then, or it might work for no one.

[Q] Best Stable ROM for NC?

OK, so first off I wanted to say that I love how dedicated this forum is, and as a new(er) person to all this it has helped a lot. The biggest thing is, I bought a triple-boot 32gb class 4 SD card from a company and it has the cm7 kang build on it, and an ICS build on it. I'm always having problems with it freezing and having problems with it getting market errors, everything else is flawless, (happens on both roms except nook stock rom). Also I put movies on their using a nook color handbrake option and it hangs alot, so do many other applications. I have had support from the company I bought it from on ebay, but I just want something more stable, able to play n64 roms at 100% and able to pair a sixaxis controller. I have tried various overclocking options, none of them seeming to effect the fact that it will freeze with almost five minutes of decent usage. Any help would be great thanks xda nookers!
Also: ICS is preferred simply because I have it on my SGS II on t mobile and would like it on here as well. But whatever is most stable works for me!
Sounds like you have a slow SD card, which is sad because it's 32GB . A SanDisk class 4 is best for booting off of, better explained here. But other than the SD card, I like using CM 7.2 from my SD, though I'm also fairly new to the Nook Color.

How would I go about that and are their any workarounds? What sd card would you suggest so I can get the most of making this a full-fledged tablet with high speeds and overclocking etc. Sorry for the bump post, have been very busy thanks!

I would not necessarily blame the SD. Who knows what those scalpers put on that SD. They ripped off something. Go to racks' triple boot and redownload his image (which is free, by the way) and start over.

If you re-burn racks' image there is no need to format first. But it would not hurt anything to go ahead and do it.
