So yesterday I flashed my phone with a bad ROM and got it back to life using ODIN, however now whenever I try to go into clockwork recovery the tablet just powers off, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here I've already tried to flash the CWM 4.x.x.x using ODIN PDA as some threads have recommended but I get the same results every time...whats up with this?
restore stock recovery, get rooted, install rom manager from android market and install cwm recovery 4004 from it.

I am having a problem accessing clockwork mod recovery mode, no matter what process i try it consistently takes me to android recovery instead.
info:
samsung fascinate
rooted
Did odin flash back to stock
Did factory reset back to stock
Did software ota update to the following specs:
HV i500.04
M# sc i500
Firmware 2.1 update 1
Baseband S: 1500.04VD101
Kernel 2.6.29
Build SCH i500 DH101
Installed CWm Recovery from market
Installed Asto file manager from market
Installed Titanium backup from market
Opened CWM application
Went through root permissions dialogue
Flashed CWM recovery to 2.5.1.0
Next i clicked on BACK UP ROM which reboots me into Android Recovery Mode and gives me the standard 4 options for the fascinate:, plus it says installation was aborted:
1.After failing to find update package
2. open update package
3. verify update package
At this point i click on the home button and reboot system now.
Next i try flashing a different CWM Recovery version to 2.5.1.1 , 2.5.1.3 , 2.5.1.4 , all resulting in and error message, so i am still using 2.5.1.0
Next i try toclick on manage and restore backups but there are no backups listed even thouigh i did back up Rom earlier.
next i try to install the Geeknik ROM( Stupidfast v1.23(D101) from the Download ROM section.
I click OK to dialogue box that ask do i want to Down Load Rom
The Stupidfast ROM download starts and finishes
Notification bar says download is complete so i click on notification bar and this takes me to dialogue box which asks do i want to back up existing rom and wipe data and cache . i say yes to both and click OK.
Next dialogue box asks do i want tot reboot. i click Ok
i am then taken back to Android System recovery.
No matter what i do in Clockwork Recovery i always end up back at Anroid System Recovery. i have tried all different scenarios -debugging checked.debugging unchecked, clear cache, dont clear cache, back up rom, dont back up rom, usb connected, usb unconnected, Titanium in,titanium out. watched all different you tube videos on subject.
sorry this was so long. i didnt want to miss any answers to any question any of you might have if at this point you want to offer any help. thanks in advance.
You have to flash CWM with Odin before you can use it. Can't just install from the market or ROM Manager
Kevin, Thanks for your response to my question.
i thought i already flashed CWMRecovery from within ROM Manager. it is the first option at the top of CWMRecovery, also it states under that first choice that my latest recovery id Clockwork Mod 2.5.1.0.
If i scroll down to the bottom of CWMRecovery the last choice shows all of the CWM Recoveries. Recovery 2.5.1.0 is listed at the bottom and is the only one i can flash/install.
In both instances it says that i have flashed this version(2.5.1.0) of CWM Recovery.
I will try whhat you are suggesting and thanks again for the help, it is appreciated
Kevin , I followed your instructions and flashed the CWMrecovery.tar file with Odin3_1.3 and everything is as it should be. The funny thing is (at least to me) that the CWMrecovery version that is listed when i am in recovery mode now is CWM version 2.5.1.0, which is the same version that i flashed within rom manager. Kind of confusing but at least i am where i want to be. Thanks again for the help.
Yeah, it's just one of the quirks with the Fascinate. Unlike most devices, just flashing Clockwork with ROM Manager only puts the update.zip on your SD card. Using Odin to flash the .tar file installs the recovery, so both parts are needed.
where i need to put CWMrecovery.tar in ODIN in which section PDA/PHONE/CSC? 1nx
You only flash things in PDA section, doing otherwise will screw up your phone

Im kinda new to all this stuff and just wanted to get some step by step stuff if you dont mind. I rooted my Fascinate tried clockwork mod wouldnt work when i tried to backup after downloading the recovery thing and when i read this you guys said something about Odin so I went to appbrain and downloaded tuxility but now im lost on what to do. Maybe something step-by-step would be good. Really appreciate it! (ps: I know im kinda slow but if you wouldnt mind...)
The stock recovery does not allow us to run unsigned zips. Thus, we must flash the CWMrecovery.tar to patch recovery to allow us to run these unsigned zips. Then you can flash CWM from within Rom Manager.
Follow these instructions from fallingup's thread:

THANKS
Thanks ALOT this looks really simple the only thing that idk about is how it said to put it in download mode. Idk what that means. Debugging? and do I mount it? Thats all i think. THANKS agian.
Download mode: power off, pull out battery, with Odin open and USB connected to PC hold volume down and plug in USB.

You have to be booted into a sense rom in order to flash a radio and you flash it through recovery just like you would a rom. You can flash CM7 by booting into a recovery (Amon_ra or Clockwork) or by going through ROM Manager, you don't need to do both. ROM Manager boots you into Clockwork recovery and just kind of automates the flashing process. I use Amon_ra, I've read about issues with using Clockwork. It's just a personal preference.
You only have to install the ROM once, whether it's using RomManager or whether you do it manually in recovery. If you see the CyanogenMod screen when you boot up, then you're good to go.

Hey guys I was rooting my new nexus s i9020a and flashed a bad rootboot.img
I then restored to the WRONG recovery image (2.3.1). Now the phone is stuck in airplane mode, will not get a signal, and the market will not do anything.
I downloaded the stock i9020a 2.3.4 from this forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063664
When I try to restore in ClockworkMod it says md5 mismatch. I've been fighting with these various issues for a few hours now and would like some advice. I don't have a spare phone at the moment so I'm really at a loss untill I correct this. Thanks in advance!
I tried installing the image from clockwork mod by manually selecting install zip from sd. That ran and I am now in a bricked state. Put clockwork mod recovery back on and haven't got any Further.

What do you mean you're in a bricked state? If you can get into clockwork, or even the bootloader, it's not really bricked.
Are you able to get into clockwork recovery? If so, I'd try transferring over a new ROM, maybe even a custom one like CM7, Oxygen, or one of the others from the Dev section... just to see if it'll flash and boot.
I am in the same boat as the op on this thread. I have tried everything and googled for every answer with no luck. right now I am on grh78 on an i9020a and am stuck in airplane mode.
I'd suggest re-flashing CWM recovery from this thread.
After that you should re-download and flash the full OTA package that says "Android 2.3.4/GTJ61/UCKE1 Radio/KA3 Bootloader" from the thread that OP mentioned.

thanks but this option is no good either. It just aborts the install
Apologies, I am sure this has been asked before but I am in such a pickle as I have read all the threads I can find and that's why I am in this state.
I have root access via ODIN So that's a good start.
Tried to install Pacman no joy, tried then with Goo and their custom roms, no joy, installed CWM no joy so I think all the threads have confused me even more.
I cant see the "install from SD card option" when I boot to recoevery.
I have tried the one click rom update but that fails due to failed to verify whole-file signature
So I currently have a working phone with standard rom and SU and Root access but I cant install any ROMs
I am sure I have missed a stage so I wanted to write a new thread to see if we can go back to basics.
Hope you can help

Let's see if i follow you here: You have rooted your device and then installed a custom recovery, or is it that the recovery won't install that's the problem? If you have a custom recovery maybe the fault lies with the recovery ittself?
If that is the problem I had that as well, What i did before flashing a new recovery with ODIN was to unable automatic reboot. Then, when the flash was done I took out the battery and made sure the phone was off. After this I booted into recovery and it worked like a charm... My firts tries with TWRP couldn't flash custom roms though, so I had to flash CWM recovery instead, and that worked as a charm.

you can either format data in cwm or in stock recovery format data/reset
or if that doesnt sort the boot loop quickest way to solve it is just to flash stock rom via odin
Remember next time before you do anything like flashing a mod or trying out something different to always make a nandroid backup in cwm - this way if you get into a boot loop or want to revert what you have done you just have to restore your nandroid backup
anyway stock rom firmware is found on my thread below

follow the instructions fully on my thread
you need to install the usb drivers
you need to put your phone into download mode (vol down home button power button)
cwm is not required and not used to flash stock rom via odin - you must be in download mode NOT recovery mode
