Sim Cards not being detected - Galaxy S II General

Help please anyone.
Earlier today my phone lost service...i wasn't too bothered as I was home and the wifi is still working well.
I thought there was no orange service! Turns out my sim card isn't being detected (nor is any other one i've tried)
I did drop my phone early...but it's in a hard back case and it landed on its front and this has never occurred before.
What to do? Will a repair cost a bomb?

check ur IMEI and baseband...
i gues they'll be unknown

yep unknown?

This just happened to me just few minutes ago. Try turning off your phone, remove battery and SIM. Re-insert battery and turn on without SIM. If your radio service is restored, turn off and turn on with SIM this time.
This seems to happen to me whenever I try to calibrate my battery using the app in market by NEMA.
I'm going to have a backup of my efs folder and root explorer app now because I'm scared.

^ thanks will try that!
My airplane sign is on though! and has been for ages now-despite airplane mode being disabled?

Lol okay so I have two issues...sim problem AND
the phone refuses to switch off flight mode (despite the fact it's not activated in settings) Wifi comes on but bluetooth won't as it's in "flight mode"-sigh

If you have some radio service restored, then there is still some hope:
Go into phone dialer, punch in *#*#4636#*#*. Then go in Phone Information, scroll down, and there should be a drop-down box selection there. Select "GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)". Wait few seconds. Hit your menu soft-key. Select "Select radio band". Select "Automatic", OK, then go back to Phone info Menu. Hit "Turn off radio", wait few seconds until you lose all radio connections. Then hit "Turn on radio" and see if you get your radio connections restored.
If you can't do any of the previous steps then your efs nv_data.bin file is probably corrupt or something. Try removing battery, wait few seconds, turn on phone without SIM, turn off phone, re-insert SIM, then turn on. Repeat instructions on previous paragraph.
If you're still SOL, then you need help from someone else. Try searching "efs restore" from the parent forum thread "Samsung Galaxy S II I9100". I found a thread with [FIXED] tag that may show some help regarding this.

My S2 is also in similar mode .. tried ur instructions but unable to start the radio please help

the same think for me

i had this with ke7 modem and when i changed to kh3 it stoped

Apologies for hijacking this thread but I have a similar problem in that I can't get a 3G signal either.
In my case, it happened when I was at my local cinema and I managed to pick up a 3G signal in there which I used to do a quick check of my email before the signal switched itself off.
Usually if the phone is out of range of a 3G signal, the signal would switch itself off then back on once the phone was in range of a 3G signal and yet, when I was back outside, I couldn't get a 3G signal.
I thought it was the SIM card at first but it's definitely not that. I finally managed to install VillainROM after much difficulty yesterday and it fixed a problem I had with the phone being stuck in Flight Mode but it didn't fix the problem involving not being able to pick up a 3G signal anywhere.

Signal "unknow" on my N4, Help

Hi, im having some issues with my signal on my N4...it randomly started a few days ago. This is what it happens:
While my N4 shows to be conected to my 2G / 3G network, sometimes (very frequent now) it totally drops the conection, the signal triangle seems empty, and going into airplane mode and coming back wont fix it, and when i log into the *#*#4636#*#* menu, it shows "Unknow" on a few options even on the preferred conection type, and i cannot choose any option there because it will go back into Unknow. The only solution is rebooting my N4, but this is just a temp solution because the problem shows up again not too long after its ON.
I have seen that if im constantly sending and recieving data, it keeps it conected longer, like when streaming a video. This problem started to occur while i was in baseband .48 with stock 4.2.2 rooted/unlocked. I did a complete wipe, and reinstalled 4.2.2 stock, but this time with .54 baseband, and the problem persist.
its been hard for me to find old posts about this problem in particular, seen other people posting about alike problems, even losing the imei number, but that doesnt happens to me, i still can see my imei number on *#*#4636#*#* even when everything else there shows unknow. I will attach an screenshot, its not in english, but i think you guys can get the idea.
details: My N4 didnt drop or anything, i already tried removing the simcard to check it, so i have no idea what to do now. I appreciate any help
Maybe your SIM card is bad or not seated properly.

gs4 data connectivity issues

I bought my girlfriend at GS 4. Ever since she got it she's having trouble connecting to the internet, whether it's 3G 4G or WiFi. it doesn't matter if she's home, in the house, or wherever. the phone is brand new, and it's already been factory reset by sprint. I had her take it to Best Buy yesterday and Samsung store, and they ran a fail tests on it she said it was good. Also since the moment she walked into Best Buy, immediately she had full bars of everything and her hone worked perfectly so they couldn't duplicate the problem. The phone is ahout 3 weeks old so no one will let me return or exchange it, which IMO is complete BS. She cant update her profile or download anything, and when she does it displays error codes. She had a data error "6602" when updating profile, and an entirlely full notification screen of errors from google play. Anyway I'm out of state so I can't help her, is there a way to get anybody to exchange this phone for her? Its ridiculous already.
Try going into settings then mobile networks then more networks then network mode then cdma. The phone will reboot. After it has rebooted and the 3g network icon has stabilized, go into settings, then more tab then system update. Then select uodate prl. Make sure it updates. Then select update profile. Wait until it says update successful. Now go back into the network settings like before and select lte/cdma. Let it reboot. After reboot, gold power button down and turn off phone. Once blue light has shut off and the vibrate had happened, take the battery door off. Remove battery. Hold down power button and count sixty seconds. After that, let go of button and put battery back in. Power up phone. Give it a minute to connect to network after booting up. If after a couple of minutes the network hasn't connected and stabilized, then there might be something wrong with the phone or tower network. If after trying this a couple of times, if it didn't correct the problem, then I'd go see a sprint service center. I've done this recently and it fixed my data problems. If it doesn't, in your case, then take it to the repair center.
try ##72786# let it go three the motions and see if this stabilizes the connection issues. it did for me

MB525 (CM7 stable) "soft dead" (cannot call) after running for some time

Hello,
I recently flashed CM7 stable, and very happy that the cold-rebooting problem disappeared. But a new problem arises: After some time (several hours maybe) the phone got "dead" silently, i.e. cannot call (just dialing constantly) or receive call (got "shut down" prompt). But the signal display shows good (-71~-51dbm). The system is relatively clean, and killing running services that can be killed do not help (only settings, maps, google play services, android keyboard cannot be killed). After a reboot it gets work again. What should I do to troubleshoot?

Reinstalling is the last thing I will do, since I have found something that may be relevant. When the error appeared, *#*#4636#*#* testing mode -> phone information will show "preferred network type" as "WCDMA preferred". Since I only have a GSM SIM card without 3G function, that may be the cause. But that cannot be changed when the error occurs, i.e., change that to "GSM only", quit the setting, re-enter, and it have reverted to "WCDMA preferred" automatically. Before the error occurs, that setting can be switched normally.
In settings->wireless & networks->mobile network settings, I have always set "GSM only" in network preferences, and ticked "use only 2G networks". When the error occurs, "GSM only" in network preferences is still there, but "use only 2G networks" is unticked automatically, and cannot be changed either, i.e. tick it, quit the setting, re-enter, and it have reverted to unticked status automatically.
The error will not recover itself; only re-booting can solve the error (switch airplane mode do not help because airplane mode switching also do not work when error occurs). I also found that when that error occurs, battery drains very quickly ( lost 40% one night).
Is this a known bug of CM7 or android? I googled and see lots of similar complains.
I do live in a area with unstable signal. Just now I observed a sudden signal dropping (from -73 to -113dbm) and then phone reconnected successfully (back to -77dbm). I checked *#*#4636#*#* testing -> phone information immediately, the "preferred network type" has been changed from "GSM only" to "GSM auto (PRL)", and in settings->wireless & networks->mobile network settings, "use only 2G networks" has been un-ticked again. But the phone can still work normally in this state. And I know if next time the "preferred network type" be changed to "WCDMA preferred", then I have to re-boot again.
wcdma perferred again
I cannot dial again. The signal strength is -57dbm (even better?!). It just keep dialing and never ends. Even if I tap End button, it will keep "hanging up" but cannot hang up. As expected, "preferred network type" has been changed to "wcdma perferred" again, and "use only 2G networks" has been un-ticked again. How can I fix them?

Rebooting again... Yes I have tried baeband switching for dozens of times before I realized that "WCDMA preferred" problem may be the real culprit. I have tried ms2ginger before CM7, but it did not solve another problem: reboot when cold, so I did not test it much. And, aren't they based on CM? They are likely to have same problem.
I think maybe because the GSM signal is poor, after it loses the signal and tries to reconnect, it finds a better WCDMA signal from another provider and got allured sticking on it .. Sounds un-logical.
I hope there's some guidance that can fix that network preference setting to GSM only, and the problem will be sure to solve.
I find some information about Getril, which detect whether your baseband matches RIL, but it's for other phone models and cannot run on Defy. Does Defy have such RIL problem too?
Battery usage picture
Mainly the problem occurs at home, for the signal is poorer in my home. When I go to work the phone could last longer. The attached picture is typical: Roughly the former 2/3 of the curve is night at home, and the later 1/3 is day at work. The battery drops more quickly at home than work. At night, wakelock is normal, but CPU is running at 300MHz all the time. Only in the later 1/3 CPU can go to deep sleep. At night the signal shows green (it's actually WCDMA signal I think), but the phone cannot make or receive calls.

Losing Service After 1-2 mins

I have an SGH-I337M on the Bell network. After a flight, I took the phone off of airplane mode and it did not regain service. After a restart service reconnected (data and texting) but then disappeared after a minute. Generally, I do not get "No Service" errors and I have never gotten "SIM Card Removed", the bars and LTE in the corner persist although nothing seems to come through. I did some searching and found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-att/help/service-problem-i337mvlufni2-t2977997
and gave the instructions a shot. I was able to use data and text for about 5 minutes initially, but since the first boot it has reverted to the original problem (coincidence?). I also took the phone in to a repair shop and had the SIM tray replaced, which did not solve the problem either. I have tried using ODIN to return to stock (I337MVLUFNI2_I337MOYAFNI2_BMC) and have tried CM11 and unofficial lollipop releases. The issue is identical in all cases.
I'm really hoping I missed something obvious here.
Thoughts?

Tested my SIM in another phone and it worked perfectly. Tested different SIM in this phone, same issues.
Bump.
The same issue here. The service/network is lost a few minutes after reboot. When I reboot my phone everything works perfectly fine - call, sms, switching to airplane mode, navigating through Mobile Networks menu items (in Settings->Connections->More Networks->Mobile Networks). After 5 minutes all those features/apps stop working. Everything looks normal but when I start one of those apps, the app hangs/freezes and stays frozen. For example when I try to place a call, the app is stuck in 'Dialing....' process and stays like that forever. When I try to end the call the app is not responding. The same thing with all apps that need/use network. All those apps stay frozen when started. Notification bar is showing I am connected to the network and network icon is showing strong signal. I tried different roms including stock rom but that didn't help. Looks like a software issue but I could be wrong.
Any suggestions anyone?

LTE problem after factory reset

Hi everyone,
I have a problem with my S10+. One day, my cellphone didn't work suddenly, at that time I was in the basement of a building.
I have a habit of using my cellphone as a road guide through the map, pasting it on the dashboard of my car, where the tool to attach it is right on the car's AC cavity.Maybe because it's too cold, it suddenly doesn't work, and indeed my cell phone feels very cold and immediately OFF.
I tried to revive, but immediately OFF again, even though it has finished booting. Until I have to go into Recovery Mode and I turn it back on. After a few times such conditions, finally my cell phone can turn on, but the LTE signal does not appear, and sometimes appears but the connection is still very slow.
I try to bring it to the Samsung service center, but only do a Factory Reset. But that problem still occurs until now, and finally I just use Wifi only for its connectivity, But if 2G can still be done.
Do you think anyone can help me with this problem? So that my 4G can be back to normal? I've tried using another SIM card to this phone, it's still like that.
Hopely anyone can help me up
Anyone can help
