Tutorial copied from spaarc from X10 subforum. Just thought this is a nice idea and should be spread through all subforums of XDA.
Link to original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1220777
ONCE AGAIN: THIS TUTORIAL WAS NOT WRITTEN BY ME AT ALL, I'VE JUST EDITED SOME PARTS WHERE THE OP MENTIONED THE X10 FORUM.
But I would appreciate if you hit the thanks button...
It would be nice if every section of the xda had a copy of this.
Here it goes:
This is a tutorial for people who are new to xda and the SGS2 forums...
There are many other people who do not how to thank either
So here are the steps :
Do's :
If a developer
1.) You click on the OP of the dev showing a ROM
2.) You read through his OP
3.) LEFT CLICK the thanks the Thanks button before u do anything
4.) If using XDA app, hit menu button on your phone, then click Browser, and hit thanks from the browser.
If a good post
1.) You read the post and like it
2.) Left click the thanks button
3.) If using XDA app, hit menu button on your phone, then click Browser, and hit thanks from the browser
the thanks button looks like this
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
and can be found on the bottom right corner of posts
Dont's :
1.) You feel ungrateful
2.) You download and use the ROM without hitting the thanks button
3.) You forget about the thanks button and post "THANKS" or "Good work , mate"
4.) You don't bother to read this guide
5.) You right click the thanks button
6.) You search for a please button
7.) You forget to thank even a good post
8.) Feel lazy to thank because you are using the XDA APP... I'm sure the DEV had much more work on the ROM that you are using than you will have to hit thanks.

i have mt4g. I found a video describing how to root this phone with visionary r11. Only problem is I CANNOT FIND r11. ONLY r14. Someone please direct me in the right direction so i can get this thing rooted and start overclocking!!!!
THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!
Anything you need to know how to root mt4g can be found in this thread.

Read carefully. Everything.
Just an FYI - You should not be overclocking your phone... for obvious reasons.
My suggestion would be to read, and read again the thread mentioned above.
Good luck.
i used this video, worked perfectly http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHrtVzlsA_s
why would you want to use an older version of the program? Do it the the same exact way just with r14... lol
This should not be in android development, it should be in Q&A.

because people have been having probs with v14 while i have yet to see one with v11.
I literally just rooted my phone 5 mins ago using both grankin's guide and mackster's youtube video. They are essentially exactly the same thing.
Now after I loaded the root script in terminal emulator and booted to bootloader I was showing S=off but still unable to get any su command to stick. I followed grankin's guide to a T including the extra steps on the very bottom of the post about waiting 30-60 minutes for cache delay write. Then I found this guide and it worked first attempt. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858021
Using VISIONary v. r14
Good Luck.

There is also a link to VISIONary v. r11 on that same guide. Just noticed.
And all on the first page mind you.

It's really terrible that you post a question such as this. All it does is clutter a forum. All you had to do is READ and you would have found the answers. Quit acting so helpless and do some work before you post.
Please post questions in Q&A section. Everyone please remember to click the "Report Post" button on the original post to have immediate action taken by the moderators. Also do not post in the thread itself telling the user that he made a mistake or broke a rule as it doesn't contribute to the thread and is unnecessary.
For everyone's information, the Report Post feature is the red triangle in the top-right corner of a post with the "!" inside of it.

I'm actually baking this into my Gingerbread ROM as long as I can get the creators permission. The ROM will be coming out soon, hopefully in about a week and will have a lot of new and cool features !

No problem ! Saw it posted in the "theme" section and figured more people would see it in the dev section.
First boot with it took a minute or two, but every time after has ran very smooth!
After flashing, my phone lost the radio. 2 reboots didn't help, but after a power down and battery pull it came back. Odd

Found this AMAZING (outdated) GUIDE posted by @Andy 4 years ago.
So Here's an Update :good:
How To Search XDA Forums
XDA Forum Rule 1.
1. Search before posting.
Use one of our search functions before posting, whether you have a question or something new to share, it's very likely someone already asked that question or shared that news.
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Firstly you need to identify what you need to find.
Aww, that ROM I like. The download link doesn't work. I need to find a working link
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Now, enter the ROM thread you wish to search & click this button -->
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now enter your search term -->
Wow, there is a few results. What next?
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Now XDA has done a little of the work for you, you have to do the rest.
IF after exhausting every post that is returned from the search you cannot find the answer. Use the same technique that you just learned to search the General & Q&A forums.
This time the button looks a little different. Don't let that put you off. Click this one instead -->
But Wait, I'm using the XDA App!
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Have no fear, you don't think XDA would have an app that wouldn't let you adhere to the rules, surely not.
Just open your XDA App, hit this -->
then this -->
and THEN type what you're looking for -->
If your lucky enough to have a hardware "Search" button, you can hit that too.
Now if you still don't find what you are looking for. You may post.
Failure to adhere to the XDA Forum Rules may lead to a Warning and/or Infraction.
