[Off-Topic] Bandwidth Usage - Epic 4G General

Sprint sure is glad that they're not my landline ISP. I downloaded an app for windows that tracks bandwidth usage on my network. I installed it on 8/17/11 (4 days ago) and I have already racked up 19.7 GBs of data. LOL!

F***ing A man I only get an average of 315kpbs down on my isp. Its worse than 4g

Do you know if that program uses RRDtool as the back end? I use Cacti to monitor my usage on my network now, but that tool could be useful for smaller implementations. Would be nice to get a breakdown based on time...

On comcast, I usually average about 150 to 175 GB a month. It is mostly Netflix and Amazon.

I don't keep track of my surfing or streaming usage, but I torrent about 50 to 80 gigs a month down. I only upload about half of that. My ratio is pretty bad lately. About .35 or .45 leech to seed.

Bad download speeds anyone?

So before the 83 update I was getting about 3.0mbps down and 0.30 up.. after I'm getting 1.4-1.8mbps down and 1.0-1.3 up...
Anyone else with similar problems?

I jumped ship to tmo to the g2x. The phone overall perfoms much faster than my old atrix and I get 10 mbs down and 1.2 up on their hspa network

At first, My download speeds werent that great but after running the speed test a couple of times im getting 4.5 down 1.2 up consistently in an area where i got 3.0 down.
This also happened to me when i did the HSUPA mod before 1.8.3 was available.
(Before reading this thread I was about to replace my SIM)
Anywhoo... Here's where it gets weirder.
I took my SIM out of my Atrix and put it into my Milestone and now I'm basically getting the same crappy speeds on my Milestone now too.
^ A couple of days ago I was getting 3MB DL on my Milestone and now it's struggling between 1.0-1.5.
Somebody that has another Android phone (especially HTC or Sammy) give it a try and let us know if you are getting basic garbage "DSL-like" speeds too...

Nope just using normal stuff like Pandora and Web. Very easy to do. Done it 4 months in a row! 5GB is not that much buddies. Atleast it's not the New 2GB data cap. Could do that in a few days. Very easy with 4G data speeds service. One reason I haven't upgraded my plan or device. 2GB is a freaking joke!

i got 'throttled', for the first time ever, this month too. except i have the same thing, except i'm consistently getting faster speeds than i normally do. i'm normally in the 2-4Mbps range, but since i got the throttle text, i've averaged more like 5-7Mbps. now i'm over 6GB for the billing cycle. if this is throttled, can i has it all the time??

That's a crazy amount of data.
I bet you're not throttled because they simply haven't caught you, but the app itself is showing that message.
The throttling is incremental and automated. Being that you probably are in a good enough area that your 3G speeds are GREAT. Then your 2G speeds and/or THROTTLED speeds are GREAT as well or just GOOD. Alot of people are in areas where there 3G speeds are poor and im talking less then 1Mbps down. So their 2G speeds and/or THROTTLED speeds are extreamly poor.
Lol subzerold you've got me beat....now I have an incentive.....to beat you ;-)

Did any of of you who didn't get throttled switch roms while you had unthrottled data and afterwards still became unthrottled?
Well that could very well have happened....I generally flash roms about once a week or two weeks and or wipe and reflash....I don't stop long enough to know for sure how I get by without getting throttled ....I tend to flash new themes and other stuff till I end up screwin something up then wipe and flash again....you might say im a flashaholic lol

I never got throttled,I flashed several times durring the time I should have been throttled though and had no issues

My account doesn't even show the data used at all. Not through the website, the app, nothing. Had to dl 3g watchdog just to have an idea of the amount of data I'm using. I never use more than 2 or 3 gigs if that so I don't know about the throttling for me. Got a couple days left on my cycle, may just start tethering like a mofo to test out!

I agree to this statement. With me I would average around 5-6 mbs and now I'm being throttled and I'm down to 1 mbs. Its either that or I was in a bad location but the "throttle" isn't as bad. I'm not sure if you were kidding with this statement, but I agree.

proxy isn't that bad. besides they're many places that has a proxy server built into there site now.. Plus I think Sopa would have only block the domain (dont quote me on this).. So an IP address would bypass that... Which would also be no biggie.. just an extract step.
