I don't use it, but doesn't facebook incorporate some kind of skype web-plugin or something? Does the regular skype incorporate your facebook friends with video enabled?
Not just yet, I can't wait tho

I thought you could use the main camera as the video camera, at least when a new dialler comes out anyway?
Yea, this is the most disipointing act from HTC. Its like removing the ability to sms

I think there's a MASSIVE difference between sending SMS and video calling. The majority of people on this forum, before the HD2 came out, had agreed that it was a bit strange, but they could live without it. The majority of people also admitted that they'd only ever used video calling once or twice, and that was just to play with it.
I think you may have exaggerated slightly!
Oh.. and wait for the obvious childish post of "They did remove the ability to sms"
If you are running android you can download Tango and video chat using main camera. you just need a mirror.

This works. i tested it earlier
Here is a Youtube video posted using SKYPE VIDEO calling on the EVO 4G
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YHrK5gg1Pk
I've tested the Skype chat, and it does work! So awesome!
That is what I have been waiting for. Thanks for posting that. I think that will seal the deal for me.

Test of EVO to EVO video call? PM me.
Gamebreaker!! I knew this would be done out the box. I can't wait
Awesome!!! Can an EVO user duplicate the Skype video chat with this app? I just want to make sure we aren't being duped by that YT video.
Tried it. Works.
Did you skype video call another EVO user, or a PC? Any lag issues?
Evo to PC. Waiting to try with another EVO user. Tiny bit of lag, but no more so than PC to PC video.
No doubt you will have plenty to choose from next Friday.
How does the video/audio feed from the EVO look/sound on the PC? If you can compare the EVO skype experience vs PC skype.
I use Skype all the time on an embedded 3g radio on my laptop, so i know network latency shouldn't be an issue. I guess I wonder if the EVO's hardware presents an issue.
No idea what the video on the PC looks like. The remote was 1000 miles away.
Latency was about 1-2 seconds over 4G and about the same over WiFi.
Tried it with someone with an incredible over 3g, worked great. Amazing!
tried it with someone with a nexus one. works great. but i can't see him cuz his camera faces the other way
Uhhh, tell your buddy to turn his N1 around
then he can't see me! aha! evo <3
just tested it with my desire. it's incredible. such a grand EVOlution...
one side-note: did you get it running with people using your gtalk account? it only seems to be working with skype.
What software needs to be downloaded to use on the Evo? I went to the Skype site and it only lists Verizon Wireless! TIA.
Evo to PC works... and works well.

use fring from the market, it lets you log into your skype account
Awesome, good to hear that I can continue to skype for free on my EVO, soon as it is in my hands.
I have no doubt the 4-gen iphone will have this feature integrated seamlessly, in the usual smooth apple UI. Hopefully android 2.3 will integrate this feature natively.
Again, Android FTW.
Is there any way I can get. The my touch music app want to try on my. Nexus
pm me your email...

Hi BmFc, can I request for this app too? It's a great app
Thanks!
Yeah, I'd like to have it as well. I mean- I HAD it, but when I installed another rom I obviously lost it.
The stock weather widget is GREAT on the slide. That, the music app, and the clock app (finally had a decent way to set alarms) are the only things that I miss about the Sense BS that came on the phone.
That, and having my contacts automatically download their facebook profile pictures, which was pretty cool to have.
If I can have all that on FroYo, I could pretty much die a happy man...
The CM 6x will update the profile pic with facebook photos. BUt I as well miss my mytouch Music, it was the only one I could use on my job's wifi that wasn't blocked (yet)
Got it.
I have the file but it's not deodexed yet I will get working on it but you can try for now.
Still workin on it I will post it when I get it working
Sounds great! Can't wait to have the MyTouch Music app! Used that one quite a bit while driving in the boonies with no good radio stations!

Does your network plan support video call?

Network plan?
I assumed it was a DATA video call, ala skype or iphone's facetime, which are purely data transfers...
Surely the video call on SGS is not the (now completely out dated) traditional video phone call that was so unpopular years ago... so unpopular that mobile phone companies removed their front facing cameras?
Mark.
You'll use fring, but fring does not work on the .GS right now. They are working on it.

Hi
Yep, I see the fring guys are working on it

It would be good if skype did something directly for android... and then there is that alpha version of adobe I saw on engadget a month or so ago.
Mark.
Good question from the OP.
I also would like to know how and what I can do video calls to (without fring) .

i have used fring on sgs, to make video calls and it works with data plan or wifi. fring to fring users can make calls between each other , skype support has been taken out.

Skype with video support is coming out for Android in the fall. If all you want is audio you can find an APK by googling around.

I really hope so, I'd prefer to use Skype than Fring, contacts-wise and also I was very unimpressed by Fring connectivity in the past and even less so by their handling of their "bandwidth issue" with Skype.

Not that i have seen any in the previews.. but the camera is there for it and Tmobiles network is plenty fast
It requires a third party app but yes it can do video chat. Android still does not have built in video chat, that will come with honeycomb.
I understand that MyTouch 4G users have a built in app from Qik for this? What will be the options on the NS? With the OS coming straight from Google I am assuming Qik will not come loaded, is Fring a better option or is there something else out there as we wait on Google Video Chat.

Fring will work with this. That can be found in the Marketplace
Qik is also in the market

also Tango
Download Tango
What would be nice is native video calling that can not only call other phones but call skype, etc...
Maybe one day

Well it's rumored that native video calling will be coming in Honeycomb (3.0?) into Google Talk. I'm not sure about it calling Skype from within Talk but I don't see why you can't just use the Skype app, if it has video chat support. I don't use Skype.
Just took a look at Tango, has some positive write ups compared to Qik and Fringe in terms of ease of use. Will definitely give it a try.

They promised it by the end of the year but it's yet to come. Basically, I would prefer one app to call all and not have 5 apps for vid calling.
