I have a Motorola Atrix with an unlocked bootloader.
I have a couple questions about updating my device.
System Version: Version.4.1.83.MB860.ATT.en.US
Android Version: 2.2.2
Build Number: Gingerblur 4.5.
The question is I want to update the system version, but I don't want to hard brick my phone by doing something stupid.
How do I get to the official gingerblur?

Since your already unlocked, I would install RomRacer's CWM, and then just flash 2.3.4 fruitcake; that way you don't have to deal with .sbf & RSD Lite.
How do I install that? I'm sorry I'm asking simple questions.
Try this:

Thank you so much for all your help.
No problem. Were you able to install romracers cwm recovery too?
I haven't been able to install that either...
Did you follow this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500
Ok I installed that...thanks for the instructions...now how do I use it? haha
Edit: Nevermind found the command
adb reboot recovery
What is fruitcake?
also if you hold down the volume down as you turn on your device, you can scroll down to android recovery using the volume down and pressing volume up to select.
Can I install Alien Rom?
Yes, if you'd like.
Flashing roms is super easy, just let me know if you have any questions.

I figured I'd get this unburied for everyone interested (which is likely a lot of folks).
If you're stock and unrooted - download this and place it on the root of the SD card - named update.zip. Boot into recovery. Hold Pwr and then Vol up and then choose to apply update.zip.
just got it on mine too.
does anyone know if this build is still rootable in the same method of 2.3.2? just curious

If your bootloader is unlocked then rooting is as easy as flashing CWM and flashing the SU binary.
If the bootloader is locked then the changelog indicates that you will not longer be able to use fastboot boot to load CWM and root that way.
With that said, I applied a lot of updates on my Nexus One without losing root and kept the boot loader locked the whole time. You'll need to pay attention, but you should be able to do the following.
Download the SU binary zip and place that on the SD card.
The OTA will not overwrite CWM until it actually boots. So, after you apply the OTA boot directly into recovery and apply the SU zip. This will give you root. (Just pay attention and hold vol up when it goes to reboot)
When you subsequently load up android CWM will be overwritten. At this point you can use the flash_image binary to manually flash CWM to recovery (or potentially ROM Manager).
ok my bootloader is unlocked. so basically i just do like before where you rename the install recovery.sh file so that cwm sticks? if so then cool beans.

So what your saying is we can ( Possibly ) install 2.3.3 via the link with rooted devices with an unlocked bootloader ( if the 2.3.3 does not lock bootloader / root ) and then just re install superuser e.c.t and were away ?
Same here, update fails. I am on 2.3.2 and Stock non-rooted.

Yes - if you're unlocked then you'll only need to remove the isntall-recovery.sh and reflash CWM/su and you're golden.
It's a bit trickier for users who rooted without unlocking the boot loader and do not want to unlock at this point.
Looks like this is for GRH78, NOT GRH78C- we'll have to wait for that package still.
Update is for build number GRH78 only :-(
Wow!
Thx)

Yeah, that is, only for 2.3.1 until now.
We'll have to wait for the GRH78C (2.3.2) build update.
this really pisses me off. i was on 2.3.2 and i got the ota but when i tried to install it from cwm it didn't work. so then when i saw this one i gave up on the one i had and now its gone. turns out i should've just did a logcat and got the one for 2.3.2.
oh well it'll be up soon
Sweet. I was trying to get to stock ROM and i was on 2.3.1
2.3.3 Flashed just perfectly
I did a nandroid backup to 2.3.1 and then installed the update and it worked fine.
Please, Could you make step by step guide, how to apply update from that link on stock, nonroot device. Thanks.

Hi there, i feel sorry to post, i know that the answer should be somewhere...
I've an unlocked Nexus S (the repair center unlocked me the device), but not rooted. How can I root it? I mean, which guide should i follow? Seems like there's not a guide for 2.3.6, is this working with my version? -> [Mac] Root
Also a few question: since I'm already unlocked should I wipe all my stuff or is it fine? Will I keep the data?

Well if you want ICS all you really need is an unlocked bootloader (unlocked icon on boot)
Root isnt needed.
You can manually flash clockworkmod from ADB shell then reboot into clockwork recovery, mount storage, transfer ICS rom and flash it. all without rooting.
i used the one click root for my i9023. the link is in my sig.
hth
download this file and put it in SDCARD
and then install it via recovery
but remember , always make backup before you do anything
press power button + vol up button at same time for few seconds you will be in bootloader , and then go to recovery
In the end I've done (before qtwrk's post, thanks for the file anyway!)!
I was using a superuser zip that was corrupted i think, then I found one that worked. After that I've had some troubles with the CWM, but I did it!
And I also have ICS! Amazing.. goes like a charm!
One question (I can't post in the thread in the developer section..):
how can I install the patch for the calendar? Download it, put in the / and then "choose .zip from sdcard" in the CWM?
One more question: Titanium backup doesn't allow me to restore the apps, I can't find the "install third parts apps"... : /
Thanks for all!
Right, before i start, i tried posting in the development forum but i cant so here i am.
Basically, ive rooted my atrix with the super one-click method.
now im trying to install a recovery. Im trying romracer's cwm but the method described in various sources and here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500
ive previously tried rom manager but i got stuck at failed to boot 2
i then tried tenfars but could only access the recovery if the phone was powered off then connected to mains power. so after a full wipe im back at stock trying romracers
system version:
45.31.2.mb860.t-mobile.en.gb
android version:
2.3.4
baseband version:
n_01.100.00r
webtop version:
wt-1.2.0-133_38
kernel version:
2.6.32.9
[email protected] #2
build number:
4.52a-74_ole-31.2
basically, how do i get rom racers installed with the moto-fastboot.
it just doesnt seem to work for me
Have you unlocked your bootloader? I'm pretty sure you need to do that first, then you should be able to use rom manager to install that recovery.
I don't have links as I'm out at the moment but I know with fastboot I flashed a recovery with about 4 simple commands.
Don't try this because I'm not sure and I'm taking a wild guess but I think the commands were something like this:
moto-fastboot erase recovery
moto-fastboot flash recovery name-of-recovery-file.img
moto-fastboot reboot
I will confirm later but I'm sure your problem is that you need to unlock your bl.
Edit: also dev section would have been the wrong place but then again so is this, should have gone in q and a really.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
ah right, well my understanding is that the bl was unlocked when the gingerbread update rolled out.
i shall give it a go though.
No my friend it wasn't you'll need to read up on unlocking bootloader and then you'll be able to flash your recovery easy peasy
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Just followed this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302423&highlight=unlock+bootloader
worked like a beaut
Hey folks.
So i'm actually a galaxy nexus user and i was showing my lil bro android out.
he loved it and went out and bought a second hand atrix 4g .. it's ATT version.
its running 2.3.6 / 4.5.141.mb860.att.en.us... phone is not rooted i checked with rootchecker and to my knowledge i don't think it is bootloader is unlocke however it is sim unlocked. not sure if this was done via remote code or some other method.
after reading around in the dev and gerneral forum i have a few questions.
how do i unlock the bootloader on this things safely from 2.3.6?
where can i find CWM that is safe to flash on 2.3.6?
is there anything i should be aware of that is different from flashing a gnex?
thanks in advance. just a lil scared to brick this thing as it feels like this device is pretty locked down from reading brick horror story threads.
Honestly, I'm not sure if it would be the same procedure after the latest update, so I'll let someone with better insight answer that one. Rooting should be the first thing that you should do, it is fairly straightforward and you can find the method with ease, as far as the recovery goes, the Atrix is supported by Koush, so you can find CWM Touch to flash through fastboot on the clockworkmod website.
The relative order in which you should do things is:
-Root the phone (optional)
-Unlock the bootloader
-Use fastboot to flash a new recovery (Latest from Koush will work)
-Flash a new ROM.
The horror stories that you read of bricking are people who keep using RSDLite like a toy, when it isn't meant for consumers to use freely. NEVER use RSDLite to downgrade your OS, it's a guaranteed hard brick for all intents and purposes
I would flash Romracers current recovery atrix 5. Flashing some ROMs or gapps will not work with touch recovery. I have never had an issue with Romracers recovery.
CM9 v7
Unlocked SIM,
& Bootloader!
ok so where can i find a safe root method and where can i find rom racers recovery? is rom racers recovery different then cwm?
The only way currently to root a phone on 4.5.141 is to use the fastboot method. The procedure and files can be found here:
http://briefmobile.com/motorola-atrix-4g-root
As for unlocking, I've been told that the old method for 4.5.91 works on 4.5.141. It can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182871&highlight=unlock
Romracer's recovery can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500
Hey, ive rooted a few phones before and am familiar with CWM and stuff but im having real trouble understanding the information on this forum at the moment.
Info on the phone:
Sys ver: 45.31.0.MB860.Orange.en.GB
Android Ver:
2.3.4
Baseband:
N_01.100.00r
Build Number:
4.5.2a-74_OLE-31
The phone is rooted and starting titanium back / rom manager confirms this. I tried flashing CWM through rom manager but got a failed to boot 2 error. I figured this was because the bootloader might be locked but i cant figure how to unlock it. Some threads say run fastboot oem unlock , some say flash sbf files only if your not on 2.3.4(but i am?).
Im just a little confused at why i cant get CWM installed and whats stopping me proceeding. It seems there is so much information on this subject but not enough clear and precise info.
Please help?
Thanks,
Piercy
You'll need to unlock your bootloader first. There's a thread titled "[HOWTO NOV18]UNLOCK BOOTLOADER, FLASH RECOVERY, INSTALL ROM Atrix 4G Bell/int'l + ATT". I suggest to read that up fully, and then follow the instructions for the international version. That's how I unlocked my (SEA Retail) Atrix.
One thing to mention is regarding the /system/etc/install-recovery.sh or /etc/install-recovery.sh which will restore stock recovery on boot. It was mentioned last in the thread, but I suggest to delete those files first before flashing cwm.
