out of space - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

i've problem in istalling new apps. the mobile gives me out of space eeroe message while i've about 20 MB free internal memory, and 527MB SD-EXT
is there any way to solve this problem?

Apps2sd

try miui with a2sd support

APP2SD is already installed.
and it refairs that apps are on SD!
any solution?

which rom do you use? if your rom supports a2sd, download a2sdgui from market and move dalvik cache to sd using this app.

I seem to have the same issue. Using imilka Incredible S 1.1 Rom, and a 32gb Patriot card, with a 1gb ext4 partition. However, when I run a2sdgui, it says no ext partition detected.
It looked like gparted created it ok, but maybe there is a problem. I have about 237mb total phone storage, which is running out!

I get this error when I have file system errors.
not sure how to solve it on a partition though.

I have gotten this on occassion during an app download/install from the market.
I have simply ignored it, and tried the download again until it succeeded.
I have no clue why it happens, but in my case, it is nothing more than an annoyance.
FWIW, I am utilizing a 2048G SD-Ext4, with lots of room.

S2E issues

I am trying to salvage my internal memory on my Aria with S2E. I am able to select the "Download cache" checkbox, but "Applications", "Private apps", and "Dalvik cache" are all greyed out (can't select them).
I am really only worried about moving Dalvik to my SD card, but have no idea why it is greyed out.
When I load S2E, I get the following message "S2E has been granted superuser permissions", so I think it isn't a permissions issue.
Any thoughts?
Do you gave the latest version of s2e? Because the latest update fixed that for me. Also make sure you have a big enough ext3 partion. I'm running a 200mb ext3 partion and have tons of space now. I even have dalvik on the partion to.

Ah...that must be it...I haven't set up my ext3 partition. I am going to do that via ROM manager now.
I don't think rom manger will do that correctly. I used gparted live CD. Google about it. It was pretty simple.

That is most likely the cause. This same thing happened to me when I attempted to use s2e with ext4 which isnt supported.

Rom Manager will definitely work. I originally used Rom Manager to partition my ext3 partition. But it has a size limitiation (512MB?). Anything bigger than that will require gparted (or another partition manager via ubuntu)
how long ago did you use ROM manager to make an ext3 partition? I was just partitioning my SD card a couple days ago for s2e and ROM manager didn't give any options for what ext type to make. just asked for partition size, swap size and automatically set up an ext2 partition.

Im not sure how long ago I used it. The very first time I used Rom Manager to parition it gave me an ext2 parition. But the most recent time I used it, it just automatically set up a ext3 partition.
Thanks to the collective. I used Gparted, to make a 1024MB Ext3 partition, and S2E works like a charm now.
I tried to do an Ext4 partition first, but it was pointed out that isn't supported by S2E...that clue saved me a ton of time, as did the Gparted Live CD tip.
My phone is back to where it was, and I went from having 25MB free internally, to over 150MB...I have needed this for a LONG TIME!
Thanks!
For those of you using S2E, have you noticed whether moving apps and/or dalvik cache to the SD card slows the phone down at all? Just wondering.
My phone can reboot under 2 minutes being that I moved cache and dalvik to partition. Its a snappy little aria.

I use a kingston Class 6 8gig card with apps and dalvik on sd using s2e, ext 3 with 512Mb (Used Rom Manager). First time boot after flashing always take a little longer. other than that every other boot after that is just like normal, have not noticed any ill performance issues. Been using for more than a month now.
I see no differences in performance.

Moving apps to the sd-card does slow the phone down if you use class 2 card which is generally bundled by the device manufacturer. For use with S2E a class 4 sd-card is required minimum. The ones who have higher class sd cards like 8 or 10, you should move apps. You should see a performance jump.
For normal sdcard users (2 or 4), I will not recommend moving applications and private apps, just move dalvik cache and download cache. should give you enough internal space without hampering on performance.
For partitioning the sd card use mini tool and partition it on the PC (see attached image). make sure you make a fat32 1st, 2nd ext2 & 3rd Linux swap. Thats the only way it works. Also dont forget to select 'Mount as Ext4' in S2E Settings. Best of luck.

Hi.
I used s2e script to free some space on my desire ( CM7 ) , but i'm having some problems. I'm using a new HP 16GB class 10 sd card (write speed 11.2 , reading speed 30.9). First I moved everything in my 2gb ext3 , but I was having force close issues for many apps and I was unable to move apps to the fat32 partition thrugh app2sd app (not enought space). So I moved /data back to /data and these 2 problems were resolved. But I'm facing a new problem now. When I'm having a call and I take the phone away from my ear, most of the times the screen doesnt turn on until the other person hangs up (even if i press the power button). How can I resolve this? Also can I move /data back to ext3 , without having the problems I mentioned before?
Thanx in advance

Could be a lot of reasons. Highly possible that there are too many active apps leaving very little RAM. Have you checked how much RAM is being used?
I use a nifty widget called 'Go TaskManager Widget'. http://bit.ly/wRV7xI ... use it if you are using GO Launcher.

Hello, Thanx for your quick reply!
i just downloaded an app and my free ram is like 31% , when the phone its idle. Is that not enough? What can I do to resolve this issue? Will creating a swap partition in my sd make any difference?

Don't move your /data partition to sd-ext. Move Dalvik cache first, and if you need more space, then move your applications as well. If you still need more space, then you're doing something wrong.

CWM 5.0.2.3, as made available in these forums by attn1, also works for partitioning SD cards. I never got gparted to work right with my card, for some reason. But the "Partition SD Card" option in CWM did it right nice.
My Aria's not telling me that it's out of memory anymore. And that's good news.

Low internal storage !!!

hi guys ,
i have a 16 gb sandisk class 4 sdhc card and currently i am using rom HYPERDROID GBX V12 by pongster .
before installing the rom through clockwork mod recovery , i partitioned the sd card with 1024 size and 0 swap size.
but my internal storage is only showing 257 Mb
and after installing a few apps, my internal storage has become low ,
is there any way to virtually increase the internal storage by utilising the SD card storage???
can this be done without formatting the phone or the ROM ,ie.,without losing data ??
HELP APPRECIATED.
THANK YOU.
Try rebooting and seeing if that helps if using an a2sd based rom

no it did not work that way...
You could partition your sd card, adding an ext2,3 or 4 partition and install DarkTremor's A2SD script. Then your apps will be installed into your ext partition on your card instead of in your phone's memory. And using the A2SD GUI app from the Android market, you can put your dalvik-cache to the partition, and do some other cool stuff. If you cant find DT's A2SD script by searching for it, I can attach the working version that I have to this post when I get home.
Edit: Attached a good working version. Flash it via CWM, after you allocate an ext4 partition (1 gb is a good size) on your sd card.

1. In CWM Recovery, under 'Advanced', theres an option to partition your sd card.
2. By partitioning your card, you are allocating an amount of space to be used as an ext2/3/4 partition. Doesn't really matter which you use, but ext4 is said to give the best performance. I'm pretty sure CWM creates an ext4.
3.By moving all your installed apps to the sd partition, you are freeing up internal storage in your phone. I have hundreds of apps installed, my phone has 650mb internal storage available, runs smooth as butter, and I still have half of my 1gb partition free.
Thanks i did the partition and installed an app called " modinstall" by mskip and now all my apps by default install in sd card
But why is my internall storage only 270 mb by default without any apps in it??

Do you have a EU HD2, or a TMOUS one? The European ones have far less ROM space. You could try a smaller system partition by modifying the flash.cfg file in the folder which you flash CWM from, just do a nandroid backup in CWM first, then restore it into your new smaller system partition after re-flashing CWM with the smaller system partition. I wouldn't go any smaller than 150 mb for a non-Sense ROM, if you go too small then your ROM won't boot up, or will have too little room to run comfortably. But too large a system partition will just waste internal storage space.
But if all your apps are getting installed to your partition by default, 200+ mb is more than enough internal storage for your phone to run nice and smooth. But that's also why I recommend DT's A2SD script, because not only does it move all your apps to the partition, but your dalvik-cache too (anywhere from 30-75 mb) and with the A2SD GUI app, it's easy to do more to make your phone run smooth, like enabling zipalign at bootup.
I have an EU hd2 now i hav installed the zip file of apps2sd u hav attatched in ur reply
I hav downloaded an application apps 2 sd from market to move phone apps to sd ut the only issue is that
Now after moving to sd , a few apps like angry birds, glow hockey and many other games or apps give an error and force closes but when these apps are moved back to phone they run smoothly !!
Why is that that these few apps are not running in sd card???

Though my apps are getting installed in sd card by default but many of the apps do not run unless they are moved to phone's memory !!!
Is there any solution???
I really prefer this method by which my apps are installing in sd card by default but how can i avoid the force close errors in some of the apps ??? Eg - angry birds
Thank you

Are you using dta2sd? And is your SD partitioned.
Ive tried a few roms right now im using mikg 3.11.. its actually kinda random like yesterday I couldn't download anything from google play but this morning it let me download. And im on a fresh install and have plenty of memory. I don't have a ext set up or any apsd set up either
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
OK I got it. You need to have an SD ext because the evo can't actually handle a rom that large without one. You need to have the rom apps moved to your SD card. This will give you an insane amount of free space. Your ext must be ext3 for best results. In recovery partition SD then upgrade ext2 to ext3. This will also format the SD so move your contents to a folder on PC. I believe Mik has dta2sd built in so it should move apps on install. This will fix your low memory issue 100%.
Ok will do.. but the Rom has like 300 mbs free. But still will do this and see if it fixes it
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
MikG has a2sd baked in, so you need to have the sdext.
Most roms have a2sd enabled by default. Also the phone uses the sdext for dalvik storage as well so you should always have one. Ext3 is highly recommended.
my recommendation would be to move your dalvik cache to sd partition and then see what you need to move app wise. i go by the rule if it doesnt need to be on your sd card then dont put it there. if you are still running out of room after dalvik is moved then damn you got some big apps (lol just messin) but just move a few there is no point in having all this free space on internal storage when its there to be used

[Q] my hd2 only has 151mb of internal storage

why does my hd2 have 151mb of internal storage and only 91mb for installing apps. i have NexusHD2 ROM.:crying:
You have a 512MB HD2 (European). And most of that is taken by the system partitions and whatnot. You need data2ext or sth like that so that you can have more storage.
create ext4 partition on your sd card using mini partition tool, it will increase your internal memory.
Hit thanks if it helped
it's normal that you have only this storage memory, Nexushd2 ROM are consuming a lot of memory.
You can move your apply on your sd-card if you have one or you can do that Rahil S say.

You can use the link in my signature, it's an HD2-specific search.
So when the ext partition is created, will some of the internal memory still be used up by apps that are on SD.

When you create an ext partition, it becomes the internal memory for apps. No need to move anything to SD.

No. Even after creating the ext4 partition, data and apps won't move on their own. You need to reflash the rom with the option "DataOnExt".
You can use TB to backup your apps, and restore after you re-install.
Is there another way, cause I don't want to mess around with the flashing stuff as I have bricked my phone in the past. I mean is there an alternative to flash like partition the SD card and use app like link2sd to move app data to sd

Are you looking for 10 posts also? Because we've already agreed that DataOnExt is the best option. He DOES want to give it a try, so your post is pointless = You are looking for 10 posts. What's the sudden interest in the HD2 section for spamming?
Also, NO. Your apology for interrupting this conversation IS NOT acceptable.
Anyway, @OP:
I think the best option is to back up all your apps using Titanium Backup, reinstall the ROM with DOE option, and then reinstall TB and your apps.

[Q] This device is running low on free disk space - whats going on?

Hi,
I'm using SUNDAWG LEGENDARY TBD EDITION "STOCK" ROM.
From 2 days im getting notification "This device is running low on free disk space(...)" when opening some apps.
I don't know whats going on. Last time i had this i reinstall this ROM, because that was impossible to open any app, even dialer.
I have 102MB free on my memory.
12GB free on SD card.
1.2GB free on Internal Storage.
so...
whats going on?
How to fix this?
I need to have my phone usesfull, I'm far from home, i cant reinstall ROM now, and using phone as navigation Whithout the phone I will have a lots of problems to come back to home  (not funny!)
Whatvere, please help me =^-^=
Android has a restriction within it which limits further downloads and (any writes to memory) when the remaining space gets below 10% of that which is available.
I agree, this can be very frustrating. Especially for NativeSD users with a 32Gb card, a 10Gb Ext4 partition and a few NativeSD roms installed. When the ext4 partition gets 90% full, no roms can be used. Despite there being a whole 1Gb of space remaining.
There is a possible solution here which I haven't had a chance to try out yet, involving reducing the 10% restriction to 5 or 2% for example. But this would only be a temporary solution for your case, until you fill up the new available limit.
In your present situation (away from home), I would try to delete any unwanted apps.
A more permanent solution could be to do a nandroid backup, then trying to increase the ext4 partition via recovery.
Hope this helps, and I hope I haven't misunderstood your problem.

It removes notification because when you use clean master it cleans your cache, which is also if i'm not wrong part of "data" partition. So, it frees you some amount of your data storage and msg is gone until you refill it with using apps.
