The actual camera could be defective and broken, leading to the phone fc'ing when it's trying to access something that doesn't work anymore. Try another ROM, besides RG and see if camera works. If the same thing happens, that means the physical camera is no longer working, and you need to warranty the phone.

Oh man something i didnt wanna hear but thanks i already tried different roms same issue

No , our Captivate don't have front cam , but in stock continuum 3.1.1 use the camera.apk version have front camera option , when u touch this icon , it 'll change your cam resolution ....... u must reset all camera setting to fix it .
In this rom , i mod another camera.apk version , don't have front camera icon

This sort of issue can be dealt with in private messages. Ultimately it is an issue between tmhung and Cezar and really none of our business. The best construction we should put on this is that tmhung made his mods after consulting with Cezar; especially if you are "not tryin to start nothin."
Transparent app drawer is looking nice. This thread is actually making TouchWiz Launcher seem somewhat slick
I really like the themed version of continuum but was a bit reluctant to try it out because some people had battery issues. Since you claim with the mod it has good battery, is there any way to put the mod on the themed version?

With my experience with Continuum, it has had the best battery life of the roms I have tried. Cognition 3.04, 4.1, CM7, Fire Fly, and Paragon. While I didn't do any timed tests, I did run each rom for multiple days, and mentally noted how things went.
I have stuck with Continuum for the two weeks(A long time for me), and just been changing kernels/radios to keep satisfied! Been great on battery life, I highly suggest flashing 3.1.1, or waiting until the update to get JS7...

It seems battery life is a hit or miss in all the roms. It seems icezar is coming up with JS7 from what I read in the thread. Hopefully that will solve the battery issues the "other users" were having. I'm waiting on that too.
Your work and your sharing is appreciated, but why release this as a ROM? Why not just release a CM zip with just the files you've added or changed? Or, provide files and instructions on how to fix the issues you've fixed? That would be easier and more convenient for all involved I would think. Imagine if we all released ROMs of every little tweak we ever made of every ROM we installed to help the community; everyone would have good intentions, but it would be a mess.
Keep up the good work man

[Q] Front camera force close with ACS ROM

I wanted to know if anyone else has the problem of the camera force closing and locking the phone up when you switch it to the camera on the screen? It worked fine before the flash of the ACS ROM. I'm posting in this forum because my post count won"t let me post in the development forum. Any help would be appreciated.
Which version of acs? I just checked mine on 1.0.2 and no issues with it. You may want to try clearing the cache and data for the camera app. Or try restarting your phone.

Camera issue
I'm running the ACS 1.0.2 as of now but it also did this on 1.0.1. maybe need the camera apk or app re-flashed?
Anyone have any ideas on why this is happening? Not a huge deal as I don't use it hardly at all and have only used it a total of 5-6 times since I got the phone back in October last year. This is a re-furbished phone Sprint just gave me as the official Froyo update completely jacked up my original one.
Happens to me also on bonsai 3.0.1 when I switch to front camera, also no matter what but when the video camera is set to 720p the recording ALWAYS fails. Very VERY annoying that I can't record hd or even use the front camera on the phone I paid over 500 bucks for

Front camera force close with ACS ROM
Since I can't post on the android developers forum and ask the Dev's over there if they have a possible fix for me, is there anyone willing to ask or point me in the right direction? I have been searching non-stop, re-flashed my phone (no change), took the phone back to stock EB13 and tried (no change), re-rooted and flashed ACS back on and just accepted the fact that it is beyond my scope of knowledge and patiently try to wait for a solution from the android geniuses here.
Thanks for any help!
never had any force closes here! mines running pretty flawless

I tried the samsung tool to take it back to EB13 Froyo stock and it still did it so out of desperation I Odin'd back DI18 stock and still no luck. So today I'm heading to Sprint store to resolve the problem. Looks like it is a hardware problem and thanks for all your help guys.
Do a reflash on top of it now and that should solve the issue

[Q] Camera blacking out at every ROM ?! [No solution]

ok i had my X8 about a month ago and since then i tried every ROM that's out there literally. Recently i settled to froyobread for about 10 days and now floyo 0.25
my problem in both is the cam after taking a few shots, the camera screen black out or the cam button dies on me and i really hate it
i take a lot of pictures and i just hate it when the prefect shot gets lost because of a stupid glitch. i can give away EdgeGlow if there is a ROM that has a fully working cam with no bugs.
the reason for the thread is to ask u X8 users instead of going all over the ROMs again ( i still have them all ) to see the stable cam, Could anyone tell me what's the best ROM to take pictures with?? and please don't tell me to go back to Eclair (2.1)
thank u all

like i said i tried all the ROMs but then i wasn't testing all the things but i remember ditching minicm because the power gadget looked like it lacked some colors or scaled up. i guess it's because of the screen size difference between X8 and X10 mini. however i remember the beautiful animations especially for boxes popping up.
just plz confirm that i can take like 10 shots in succession (say with 1 sec delay) without the cam bugging on me
Forget the stock camera apps and use Camera Illusion.
It´s better, doesn´t have errors and has great effects, like negative and that stuff.
I do experienced the same thing..
try other alternative. I'm using Camera Advance Lite, it works perfect.

This is the same thing which happens with me. I tried using alternative camera apps like vignette but still the same problem.
After some shots, the camera just blacks out and you cannot take any pics after that until a reboot is made.

autorotate not working

went from leaked gingerbread back to syndicate 1.1.0 and now the autorotate doesn't work, only when i open the keyboard. I did all the fixes, it still doesn't work, any idea how to fix it. I've had 3 epics and never had the problem of it not rotating, always slow rotating or something like that, but never no rotating.

I wiped data and everything, still doesn't work.
Try this
Did you calibrate the accelerometer first? That might fix it. Mine get kinda wonky after reflashing and especially after using Odin.
i did the calib_yamaha, I calibrated the sensor, nothing did anything, I flashed the gb leak again and it works fine, I flash back to sf 1.1.0 and it doesn't work, so now I'm stuck on the gb leak which is a problem because the phone barely works and keeps dropping calls so I really need to get back to froyo.

Are you referring to rotating the home screen, or any and all apps? I might be mistaken, but I don't think TouchWiz rotates the home screen, at least not without sliding out the keyboard...
Also, I would recommend upgrading to SRF 1.2, it's even better than 1.1

Well, because 1.2 *is* different than 1.1 - hence the change in version numbers...
Why would you expect the two to be exactly the same? Kind of a silly question
A better question would be, "WHAT is different between the two, that would cause the auto rotate problem in 1.1?"
I don't know that answer, though... I think it may have been tied to the fully loaded version, because I remember experiencing it only once - when I briefly tried fully loaded, before going back to standard

Ok let me clarify my post. Running SR v1.1.1, rotate worked fine. Flashed Revoltion rom, didn't like it, few things didn't work like autorotate.
So I flashed another rom which fixed it, chose SR 1.2 to give it a try. If I flashed v1.1.1 that may have worked also.
so can we get back to the issue, i've tried 1.1.1 and the autorotate doesn't work. it appears to be a froyo issue as it worked fine for months and months and now only gingerbread roms will rotate. could that be because i'm using eh17 modem? i wouldn't think so.
robl45 said:

Well, one or many of the changes between 1.1 and 1.2 might have affected rotation as a side effect - whatever caused the glitch in 1.1 must have been changed for a completely unrelated reason, and the glitch disappeared...
I think, from what you've reported, that it had something to do with the extras in the fully loaded version - that used a hacked TW, right? 1.2 doesn't have a fully loaded package that I'm aware of... But try the standard version, or just use the most recent version since it *is* better

It does nut appear to be a froyo issue, because 1.2 is froyo without the issue... In fact, so far the only froyo that appears to have this issue is the fully loaded version of 1.1... Several examples of froyo without the issue vs one with the issue would indicate that froyo is not the problem at all...
Unless I missed the part where you duplicated the issue on several other froyo roms - all I've seen mentioned is SRF 1.1 fully loaded... Have you seen the problem on 1.1 standard edition?
But you are correct about the modem having nothing to do with it
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
well you could be right, but i've been using the 1.1 for months and months, longer than any other rom and havent had a problem, and I've run many other roms, never had a problem. only time i've ever seen something like this is since running gingerbread leaks, now they work and the old one doesn't, I've flashed that same rom probably 10 times, never had a problem, gone from bonsai to that one and back again, never a problem so I would doubt the rom would have anything to do with it. I'll try the 1.2 if I can get it downloaded. last night the page wasn't coming up.

Perhaps a full odin back to stock froyo, then reinstall everything from there...
I'm wondering if gingerbread updated something that froyo relied on for sensor data (this is a long shot, falling under the category of "I don't see how they're related, but why not?")
Otherwise, it *almost* sounds like a hardware issue - except that you said it works fine on gingerbread... well, unless GB is using a different sensor reading...

i've only run gb for like 2 weeks, was working fine on froyo, can't understand it. I did download srf 1.2 last night as the site would come up now. so i might play with that this weekend, although the GB is working now and making phone calls without dropping so aside from random reboots its working. kinda makes it hard to sell the thing eventually though if it won't rotate.
well I put on the srf 1.2, autorotate works fine, im perplexed as to why that is since autorotate worked fine for the 6+ months that I ran it and i've never had autorotate stop working on any of the 3 epics i've had and any of the roms. but at least its working now and i have a stable phone.

Camera and CM9

Hello, I have been following the development of CM9 for a while now. Almost all roms can not get the camera working. I read there is a change in the framework and that is why it is now hard for older phones. But what has changed to stop the camera? Is the camera a hard device to get drivers for? Any clarity would be amazing just so I can understand the issue. Many thanks
It's only a matter of time I think before they get it sorted.
I just tried my first ICS based rom yesterday on my SGS2 and it is almost perfect, really good.
Camera works, but no video function (for me anyway!)
Exciting times.
I agree with thomss79. "Only a matter of time". Also the drivers are important. Looking through the threads on here, some drivers, and or source code, has been released for the Atrix from Nvidia and Moto. Not sure if that will help ICS, camera (and kernel) tho. Anyway, the devs on here should sort it out before too long. Thought i would be stuck on Froyo ( 2.2.2 ) forever. Unlocked and tried nearly all roms now, including early ICS
I heard drivers were an issue for CM9. I'll wait A LOT before installing ICS anyway, CM7 took a long time to get to this (awesome) point, and I will NOT switch to a less functional ROM just because it looks prettier. I'm extremely happy with CM7 for the time being.
I understand that the camera is not working on CM9 build....and that's ok for now but is there a reason why my gallery is not working?
I can't seem to view mms messages or downloaded pics

thanks for the tip. quickpic works great. have access to my pics
Regarding why, as far as I know it's due to camera API changes in ICS. This causes troubles for the way cameras work earlier, and requires new driver. Again I'm not completely sure, this is just something I picked up in other threads. On a side note, the camera is mostly working in turl's new builds (and jokersax's) over at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445052 as I'm sure you're aware . Hope that clears some confusion!
Issues when downgrading
Though I was just fiddling around with CM9 and Ice cream sandwich, when I downgraded back to 2.3.4(stock), the camera app refused to work. Camera app just crashes. Is there any permanent change that CM9 does to the device interface that may be causing this.
Thanks
Shouldn't be anything permanent. How did you revert to stock?

You really just dont know what you're missing. The camera DOES work...to everyone saying it doesnt...well, thats just not 100% true. There are significant problems, some lag and delays, but it IS functional.
Using a camera app usually cures all the problems tho.

I flash the stock rom using fastboot, i.e. fastboot flash system system.img, so I'm assuming that would format the /system directory. Im still a noob at this so any advice would be much appreciated. Also, the camera does not work in the new cm9 beta, so I am assuming there is some sort of firmware issue with the camera.
Thanks
I would definitely try reflashing, cause the camera is working for me on Jokersax's latest build.
front camera
Also, the front camera works when I use camera 360, so it seems to be a device driver/ firmware issue. Anyone else having similar problems?
