4.5.602 pre-root - Droid X General

will there be a pre-root like there was for 4.5.596?
i dont see TBH app in android market.
i would really like a (proper root) like z4root to work.
i would pay a few dollars for that.
i dont want to pay a few dollars for a root that is a pre-root.
i know there has been work done to do that but finish the job and give us a proper root and i would pay $5.00
anyhow i will do a pre-root like there was for 4.5.596 if one is going to be avail soon.
thanks

Quit complaining please. Thank you.
It's not a matter of "finishing the job". Finding a reproducible exploit is much harder. Be thankful for preroot.

I dont think im complaining...
I think im stating that i would pay more $$$ for a real root then i would a pre-root.
that would give the programmers more incentive to FIND another exploit.
right now i think they have pretty much given up on trying to find a real exploit and are using the pre-root exploit.

Will you or Wont you?

This is just a simple question.,
Will you unroot for the official 2.2 or won't you?
Already did.

you should have started the thread as a Poll..
Nope, I'll wait for a rooted version.
Hell no, whats the point of rooting if you do the official update. There is a reason im rooted, and not looking to lose it anytime soon.

It was suppose to be started as a poll but i hadn't finished the questions yet before people started posting lol wow guess people are laying in wait....
Nope. Will wait for rooted, fully working version.
I ain't rooted so I'm getting the update as soon as I can get my greedy little hands on it.
nope i wont be unrooting
I will not lose my wiimote bluetoof!!!
why do people make such a big deal about the ones who update and lose root? If you didn't update and lose root then good for you but some people like to try the official update before the chefs update and customize, i for one can't blame them. We all paid for these phones, some more then others and if they want to upgrade then let them. I'm seriously thinking about doing the update and i will start a donation fund for whoever can root the new build. It's my choice and comeone will eventually root it anyway so whats the big deal???

not worth the risk for me
Anyone who is rooted should have Froyo already. It would be absolutely moronic to unroot for it.

you are absoulutely right, but the evo getting rooted in the first place wasn't guranteed and nothing is really guranteed my friend lol. But with the devs here at xda and all the new phones shipping with froyo once it gets released i'm sure it will be rooted soon enough
None of the Froyo ROMs out there have 4g, which I use every day.
I'll probably wait a couple of days to see if somebody posts a rooted version, and if not, I may un-root for the stock update. But then if I lose root, I also lose Titanium Backup, so I'd have to set everything up from scratch, which I hate.

This. I miss 4G on this CM6 ROM, which is otherwise awesome.
AppBrain is a less effective approach to restoring apps, but it beats starting from scratch.

Root now or wait for 2.2?

So I just got the fascinate after owning a driod x and the inc. anyway I love it and just want some people's thoughts as to if I should root now or just wait for the froyo to come? Had problems with rooting the x well not rooting but unrooting and going back to 2.1 just to get 2.2 don't won't the same thing to happen to me on the samsung.

root now
always the best option!
Root now brother. Give the devs a day or two after 2.2 is officially released, and they'll crank out a hotrod rom for your hotrod phone.
def root now. with all files downloaded this takes 20 min http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=798064 and we prob will have 2.2 before vzw ota it to us and ull need root and cwm to get that.....so yes root clockwork and (imo) blue breeze the bi*ch! in the worst thing ever and u wait for 2.2 im surre the devs here will root it in no time
Hmm so maybe I'll do that tonight at work what are some of the easier links to use? And which lagfix do i need to use?
Sent via Fascinate.
Wow so i've been searching around and just about every link I go to sends me to another link and then another to download. is there a SINGLE forum that I can download all the stuff I need to just root and then do the lag fix, thats really all i want, and maybe wireless tethering. Thanks for your help in advance.

One click root app development (please!!)

Does anybody know if there is any developer making a app like z4root to root gingerbread. I would like to be able to root just for some of the apps that require root. I do not want sbf back to stock and go through all that hassle.
Sent from my Droidx-Gingblur2.3.3
I too would like to see this Now if the dev that made z4root is still activate I hope they will optimize this code for gingerbread as well
why not just install the rooted version of gingerbread.......

exactly the rooted version is the same its just pre-rooted still has all the blur and everything why bother using an app to root when it comes rooted
It's better that the root method isn't publicly known. P3 can keep putting out prerooted images and Motorola/Google can't find the exploit as easily so we can keep rooting away.
Yea I agree, just get the pre-rooted image and stick with P3's updates - he keeps us ahead of the mainstream by a couple months anyways. I guarantee that P3 is looking out for YOUR interest way more then VZW and he has the resources to get us what we need. I'm pretty sure he must be involved with moto in some degree... I'm pretty sure thats where he gets all his early builds that are going to Verizon at the same time for more testing.... Except while they lag and usually don't even release those particular builds, because of P3 we get to tinker around with them and test too Support TBH!!!

[Q] Root for US OTA 2.0

So I'm going to go out on a limb and say that there is no solution to root a TP that's already applied the 2.0 update?
I've tried the root methods already obtainable on here and they don't work. I'm guessing (more hoping) that someone is working on finding a solution.
Makes me sad. A co-worker updated it for me because "it said it needed to update it so I did it for you"... *sigh*
OTA2 removed the exploit unless you were already rooted and used Voodoo Rootkeeper to maintain root during the update. I haven't heard the outcome with regards to 2.5. I don't want to risk root so won't be updating unless it's safe.
2.5 is out ? which your version of tablet ?
16gb us. Was delivered last week.
Yeah, I didn't have it rooted before so yeah.
Either people like us find a way to downgrade or wait until a new exploit is found. The former seems easier but my knowledge of these things isn't very high...
Yeah, I'm not sure how to either. I'm good at following directions but when a "friend" upgrades your device for you...
As for downgrading, I don't think that'll be an option until someone finds a Lenovo rom flash utility.

2. 5 was not available to US last week. How did you get it? Supposedly it's still going through certification. 0086_US is 2.0. What version are you?
Oh hell.... I've been reading too many posts on the Lenovo forums. My apologies, I am running OTA 2.0 NOT 2.5. I will correct my first post and title.
I'm running ThinkPadTablet_A310_02_0039_0086_US.
Okay. Thanks. No worries, but was scratching my head, looking puzzled.
Haha! I can understand. I have that look a lot sadly. I appreciate you telling me as I had no clue as to what exactly I was saying.
Now, if anyone knows someone on the inside at Lenovo that could get the flash utility...
LOL If only.
And now we wait. Did NOT expect CM9 to come out so fast and be working so didn't care much for root otherwise. Oh well, that was my fault and I knew I'd lose root for the time being. Now I wait patiently, since the primary work of the developers now is making CM9 to work properly so w/e.
Why isn't there a way to downgrade the rom to 075? The tab has a recovery boot. If it could be downgraded, it could then be rooted , then updated.
No way to downgrade, unless you know something the rest of us are unaware of. There's a bunch of folks that either can't root at all, or took OTA2 before getting root/without preserving root. We've been told that there's nothing to be done for the time being.
I don't know how to do it, but I know that's how other tabs got around the problem. I only say it in case someone does.
AFAIK, the problem is the recovery's signature check.. if it recognizes that the update.zip to flash is older than the build actually installed, it won't install the new ROM.
Thanks. Noob enough that I couldn't explain it, just knew it doesn't work.

I wonder what it takes to defeat the check? There must be an update script that performs that check. Editing elements of the update script has been the key to other "can't be done" situations.

I'm going to keep putting forth suggestions instead of claiming something can't be done. Afterall, the point of this entire forum is to work togther to overcome obstacles.
While I don't know a lot about these things, if it could be done, it would have been. This forum is overflowing with posts from owners of all kinds devices asking how to downgrade their respective device so they can take root. It's not an uncommon request, and one that I have researched for another device, only to find the same answer. Hey if you find out how to do it, you'll make a fortune.
Two other tablets, the Flyer and the View downgrade to gingerbread, then unlock bootloader, then root, then update to honeycomb, then custom roms are applied. They got the idea from another tab, the Iconia, who got it from the Transformer . . .
I'm just trying to push good and bad ideas to someone with the skills. It's about not taking 'no' as an answer.
Here's the thread for Flyer/View:

Finally! I have root. Thanks!
Now, the question is, can you flash recovery and then ROM while only having root and locked bootloader using for example Flashyfi? Or, I'm thinking about Xposed, but the thing is, I don't really think that would help that much, as everybody who has this device knows, that the internal flash is slow so much that even floppy drive would have been faster, so you need to store rom/app/data on external sd if you want to have somewhat fast device. But that obviously isn't possible with stock rom, right..?
Otherwise i guess I might just unlock because, after like year or so, the stock ROM gets very very slow and laggy and it makes me mad, as for this expensive device, I would like to use it and don't just wait all the time for things to happen.
Trust me stock is slow even with 90% free memory. I unlocked from day one. Once yoh unlock you can use the method j stated in op. Youll be happy my tab is way faster plus im oc'd

You will need to unlock your bootloader to install any custom ROMs, kernels, or recoveries, even if you have root. xposed is probably your best option for tweaking.

Exactly.. I mean like... I understand that they need a way how to protect their devices from people who don't know what they're doing, which usually results in bricking devices and excpecting that manufacture will repair it for free. What I don't understand, is why they're claiming my warranty is gone. As for example, if screen or keyboard stops working it's clearly not SW issue (or most likely). The only good thing about this is that since I'm living in EU, if I get HW issue, they have to repair it even if it's unlocked, because of law. Can you rely on it? That's the question.
Anyway, now I'm running custom ROM and it's really something else.

If you are lucky, you can get it to unlock. If not, even the support department will not help you. Seach for ASUS support sucks.
