market thinks my tab is from another country - Acer Iconia A500

i have no idea what happened or why but the market now is offically broken for me.
it thinks my 32gb iconia that i got from amazon is from another country and its not.
i installed a COM_GEN1 stock rom, not an EMEA or what ever rom.
i am listed as USA in all settings.
nothing on the market will install as it keeps saying my tab is from another country.
everything was working fine... what the **** is going on.. holy crap i cant tell you how frustrating this is and i will file a complaint with amazon and my local BBB if this stupid company is selling iconia 32gb tabs as usa models when they are not.
someone help please i have searched everywhere and cant find an answer
i did look around on the google support sites and there are alot of people reporting this in the last 2 months and some from the Acer transformer and only 1 guy said he switched google accounts and it went away.
i have tried multiple accounts and even made sure my info on that account was set up for USA.
i live in iowa for pete's sake... it was working damn it.

It's not about the hardware (although you can check the box and you'll see which country it's listed). This is a bug. I also had the same problem and it's up to Google to fix it.
My market results were in everything but English and nothing helped. You'll just have to live with it. The problem disappeared however after a few weeks.
Keep in mind that I flashed a US rom on my tablet (I'm from Europe and the tablet came with German rom) and some descriptions were still in Russian which is nowhere near me.

thank you sir!
and i wont just live with it because nothing installs or updates and i cant even search for anything.
and now because i flashed back to stock i dont even have the ability to root or install recovery.
i am trying to find a link to iconia root and acer recovery installer that i can email my self and download via the tablet so i can atleast read the **** on my sd card.
since there was no file explorer in the stock rom i flashed.

If you need the apk's, Why don't you look in the Iconia Root and Acer Recovery Installer threads, then?
Or better yet, get one of the 3.1 OTA ROMS listed in the dev section, they don't require root or CWM, and install one of those? That should restore your market function.

i got iconia root. i had saved a copy on my PC but the acer recovery program is a market program, not something that is available via threads here
floatingfatman - how will a 3.1 rom fix an issue that is unfixable by hardware or firmware...
please be sure to read my post so you know that i already did that.
this isnt isnt just me there are a good number of posts about it on the google market support threads.... just no fix.
google did respond to my support ticket and tried telling me i have some filter applied on my Iconia market App that is stopping the installs and search results.
my reply was "WRONG" how does a filter make the market think i am not in the USA....
i told the guy to please read my email and my issue before just given me a blanket response that has nothing to do with my issue.

@OP: My problem was fixed after a few weeks. I don't know how much exactly but the thing that messed up my device was that I used a wifi spot in another country while I was on vacation. I didn't even have the list of the apps that were already installed on my device.
It's a serious bug and I even opened a post about it but all my search indicated that it will go away or I'll have to live with it. It sucks I agree but we can't fix it since it something to do with google market.
Some people also reported that disabling the location settings (the settings that determines your location via wifi or GPS you'll find it) and wiping Market cache afterwards would fix it but that didn't work for me.

ok finally got recovery installer downloaded and installed and doing a back up now, then will restore my last backup which had everything in it that i currently was trying to download.
thanks for the help guys.
but unfortunately this still doesnt fix the market issue i am having so we will see what happens.
@bpivk - yeah i did all that and nothing happened. even a complete format and flashing of a stock unrooted rom didnt help.
its all on google, its nothign to do with me, acer or anything.
i think it started when they started rolling out the new market to all the phones.
this issue started for me before my Samsung PHONE got the new market but anyways. just something i realized.

Try this:
Settings-Applications
Google Service Framework - Force Stop and clear data
Market - Force stop and clear cache
Reboot and give it a shot.

Can't access Market

Hey all,
I've been trying to search for this issue but couldn't find and answer so I decided to post it here.
About a month ago I decided to install the CyanogenMod4.0.4 ROM on my G1. I remember I was able to access the Market because I downloaded so apps onto my phone, but over the last 2 weeks, I can't get it running anymore. Everytime I go to open it, I get the 'force close' message. I've tried turning my phone off and on to see if that cured it but I still get the same message. I also noticed one of my apps doesn't work at all anymore (Shazam) which makes me wonder if I might of accidentally changed a setting somewhere which is not letting it work. I had downloaded a few apps from the market when it did work and some apps work properly and others don't. I hope this doesn't have anything to do with the ROM because I really like it and want to keep it installed...
any answers would be great, thanks
have you tried running fix_permissions? that usually clears up a lot of problems.
no, I haven't tried that yet. I don't know how to run that. Where do I go to do that?
well, I figured out how to do fix_permissions
I ran it, rebooted my phone, but I still have the same issue. My Market doesn't open.
i guess I'm going to have to just simply re-install the ROM?
I know there's a new one out so I might just do that, but I'm hoping that I don't continue to have this problem when I update
You could always re install 4.0.4 again, that should repair the market and it should just upgrade so all your settings will still be there.... have you got the CM recovery bootloader installed? if not, do that firts, its a life saver.
TrOjAn
No, I don't have the CM bootloader, so I'll have to get it and I'll try that. Thanks!

Help, lost market updating Civato mix from c3 to c6.

I just updated Civato's c3 mix to c6. I did not do a full wipe reset ( I didn't want to reinstall everything) and have lost Market. I downloaded the vending.apk linked in his rom section and installed rebooted.
Still nothing.
Everything else works fine so far. I just keep getting "no application installed".
Other than reinstalling with a reset wipe, any ideas on fixing my mistake?
Thank You

Interesting. Just yesterday I had issues with my Phones Market app. Force Closes after it started. So I downloaded and installed the new market app. Here's where it got interesting.
Not sure if I deleted the old on the first attempt, or before the second attempt, but when I finished, I selected Market from the launcher "no application found". So I uninstalled all market apps. Installed the new, and from the launcher "no application installed" again! Checked my "apps" and the market icon worked! Had to delet the old icon from my launcher, and drop the new one there.
So my guess, is uninstall the old before installing the new. Remove all traces of it.
I did fix it.
I tried the Civato fix of renaming vending.apk and dlding another placing it in system/app and rebooting. No luck. I tried installing the app manually and received the "no application found" warning.
Luckily I had one sitting in Titanium backup. It reinstalled an older version and I did have to delete the old icon.
Just strange that it would not install the way it should.
Yeah, I remember reading about it in that roms thread. Seems to be a rom specific issue with it. Glad you're up and running.

I know and sorry for the trouble , it has got something to do with the 3.1.6 and 3.2 Market. If you install that version it is hard to revert back to the original A500 market (1.0.28) without doing a full wipe.
I posted it on my thread , that it is better to stay with old market , make a NANdroid backup and then flash the rom with new marked to check it out if you like it.
I'm really sorry for your trouble , I didn't notice the problem myself until I tried to revert back to the Old market.
I think all the roms with New (leaked) 3.2 market will have the same problem if you want to revert back to the old market. A full wipe or a titanium backup is the only solution then.
I've only had my A500 for a couple of weeks, but I've already tried quite a few ROM's since then, and the funny thing is, 75% of the time, there's a market issue! Dunno if it's just me or what. It typically only happens with the ICS market leak. Maybe some devices just don't like it. But anyway, I seem to have come up with a universal fix that has worked every time I've tried it. I just posted about it here. Basically, what you're doing is completely removing the market and all traces left behind, rebooting, injecting the 3.1.6 market, and rebooting again. It's almost too easy

Thanks and yep , I think it is some problem the way 3.2 market (leaked version) is intigrated into the system , on the full ICS 4.0 there will be no problem I guess but on HC3.2 it got some problems.
Edit:
The A500 uses a market simular like the website android market , it is intigrated into the system , I did a test , even when I delete the vending apk and marketupdater apk in the rom before flashing it , it still installs the 1.0.28version and I think that there it goes wrong when you install a other Market version and then try to go back.
I stick with the 1.0.28 version on the A500 , I think this web-layout is the more clearer one , 2.3.6 is ok but 3.1.5 and up to 3.2 got to small fonts and icons for me and is good for phones but not tablets in my opinion , the only good in those new versions is the rotation where the 1.028 only got horizontal view.

Don't be so hard on yourself. You have the nerve to give people new roms to play with. Nothings perfect and will always have minor issues we learn to work around. Just keep doing your thing. Believe me, people appreciate it more than you know

No need to apologize. I read the instructions and tried it anyway.
I'm very happy with your rom so thank you for all the time and effort.
I'm using Thors kernel and have no complaints.
We only learn from our mistakes and this was a very minor lesson.
I just discovered I have the "Error purchasing" problem.
Any ideas on a fix? I cleared cache no luck.
Thank You
go to the android market with Google webbrowser. Market acount settings .Make sure your device isn't hidden in menu.
Try downloading and installing true android market from the webpage and see if your tablet starts installing the picked app. If it doesn't. Your tablet is hidden in menu of the devices and you need to change that in your market account settings.
Fixed it, fingers crossed.
I tried to uninstall it from Titanium Backup and received the message that Finsky.apk would uninstall.
Since I was not certain which version of Vending.apk and Finsky.apk were on the tablet, I pulled them both from Thors 10 rom.
I then did the usual, rename the old ones, copy the new ones, force stop, clear cache and data, delete account, reboot, login, create new account.
Works fine now.
Are Vending.apk and Finsky.apk linked in some way? Previously I tried different versions of just Vending.apk and had either the error purchasing or fc when checking my apps.
Thank You
Well it seems to be that the finsky.apk is linked.
Thanks for the info.

It is linked - I have noticed this before. But check my last post on the first page. It's not necessarily required for the market to run (at least, with version 3.x) because I have removed it entirely. By removing all traces of the market (finsky.apk, vending.apk, and clearing cache) a fresh market apk can be pasted into /system/app with the permissions set to rx-r--r-- and it should run just fine.
Another thing which apparently works (who knows why) is going to Android settings, and selecting your language (even though it's already selected) and then running the market again. Not sure if that applies to tablets, but I remember having to do it with my phone on certain ROM's & market versions.

[Q] Nook Touch + Market Stopped working

So i have a Nook Simple Touch I was using about 9 months ago, which fell to disuse for a bit for a variety of reasons. It's running 1.1.0, and is rooted.
I dusted it off to recently give it some more use again, and wanted to update some of the apps, but discovered that the Market doesn't seem to work anymore - I know it used to, but now, whenever I try to download anything, I get a dialog: "Download Errror: Download was unsuccessful, please try again." I've waited an extra day, as I remember that was originally necessary to complete the registration process, but still nothing. Searching (with Market Search) works, even for things I haven't looked up before, and it still recognizes my account, as I see my email, though I noticed that the Nook Touch doesn't get listed in the Google Play Store under devices.
Any ideas what might be going wrong here, or things to try? I'm also willing to upgrade to a newer firmware (1.2.1), but am not sure of the best method to update a rooted device. I can pull it into a separate post, but I'll include it here for now:
I'm sure I'l have to root again, but Is it possible to upgrade the rooted device and then simply re-root, or will I lose everything I've installed? Is it just better to wipe, update and re-root? If so, is there any convenient way to keep all of my settings?
Thanks!

Sad, no one wants to reply. Or perhaps no one knows.
Did a backup, and experimented. I couldn't update directly, so I wiped back to a stock ROM, and upgraded to 1.2.1. Rooted with ManualNooter, and the market worked. So I have no idea what was going on, but it works now. Sadly, a computer accident made me lose my backups (including unrooted images). But at least I've got something functional.
I am currently in the same boat with my NST (BNRV300) running rooted 1.1.2. I last installed and/or updated some Market apps successfully perhaps about a year ago, and have not made any other change to the Nook, so I am at a lost as to what might be the cause. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
For now, my workaround this problem is to download the desired app's apk file from an alternate source (e.g., APKPure) then side-load it onto the NST.
My guess would be that somehow your authtication with Google has been lost on the device.
If you go to the PlayStore on a computer do you see your NST listed as a device, and if so, when you select an app that way does it eventually appear on your NST?
Sent from my NST

I think you are right -- my NST credential with the Playstore must have expired or more likely become invalid when I changed my password on my Gmail account.
If so I can't figure out how to re-validate the credential: I recall entering my Google login/password via the YouTube app during the course of rooting my NST using the MinimalTouch tool's 2-phase process, but now I can't even get the YouTube app to start (error message: ... problem starting up, please check your network connection and system time).
Look here
I responded to a related issue awhile back. Not sure if the info at the link might kick-start the signing in process.
Thanks for the pointer.
I decided to go the route of "factory reset, upgrade to 1.2.1 and re-root using Nook Manager", as simply re-rooting 1.1.2 using the old tool (Minimal Touch) is tedious & somewhat error-prone -- plus I'd like to try out 1.2.1.
That was what I would usually suggest but the farther I have gotten from that "day 1", the less likely I am to take/offer the same advice. I've made so many modifications at this point I don't think I'd ever get it back to its present state! Back up early and often...and, apparently, access the Market every so often, even if you don't want anything.
Good luck!

N9006 -Chinese Note 3 working Google Play

For those people who have a Chinese version of the Galaxy Note 3 SM-N9006 it is possible after rooting and installing CWM to flash Google GApps onto the phone giving access to the Google Play store (even though it still localizes showing many Chinese apps by default), Google Accounts, and well everything Google except Google Now. For some reason it still wont function.
Sorry I am not able to give complete credit to who ever came up with the hack because I followed through so many threads last night that I couldn't completely backtrack to the origin. However, I can walk you through my steps to get it on your phone. *****IF you bootloop your phone or brick it I am NOT responsible***** that said following the steps as laid out on the site below has a high probability of successfully rooting your phone.
Step 1. Root the phone: I used the process laid out by galaxynote3root (dot) com making sure to download all the files (I didn't need to download the samsung drivers since I already had them) and then following the root process using ODIN.
Step 2. I flashed SuperUser onto the phone using CWM.
Then I started searching this site, and few others as well as some Chinese sites for how to get the google play store to work, and that's where I lost my footprints into random thread jumping and linking. Finally leading me to site that talked about how to flash Google Play on to the Dual Sim S4 [[[ support.mobicity (dot) com/entries/22148360-How-to-flash-the-Google-Play-Store-on-the-Dual-SIM-Galaxy-S4-GT-i9502 ]]] Guessing that there wouldn't be too much difference between the 4.2.2 version and the 4.3 version of GApps I took a shot in the dark and flashed the GApps file onto my phone using CWM
Step 3. Download the S4 GT-i9502 GApps file from [[[ hotfile (dot) com/dl/232926252/272b320/i9502_FILES.zip.html ]]] The process for flashing this to your phone is the same as flashing SU using CWM.
Put the zip file onto the internal storage of the phone
Turn the power off
Press Volume UP POWER and HOME until the screen flashes and the developer's text appear at the top of the screen release the HOME button continuing to hold UP and POWER
In the CWM screen scroll down to the i9502_Files.zip, press the enter key, and install the only file that says YES.
Once installed reboot the phone and there you go, you now have access to Google Play and all Google Apps except Google Now (still don't know how to fix that)
The only problems that I have encountered is that the Google Search feature seems to crash a lot, which will crash chrome and google voice, google translate, anything that uses Google Search. However, the play store works just fine. Since I don't use Chrome that often because it uses too much data by comparison to UC Browser, I am not entirely concerned with it.
If this works for you, and you Don't experience the Google Search crash please tell me in the comments. I want to know whats different and why mine crashes. If you have already fixed that problem also PLEASE share because I do love google voice search.

Thank you so much!! I was stressing out because they didnt wanna swap my phone, and i didnt know when a gapps and custom rom would, if ever, be realeased for these chinese models, but your gapps zip did the trick!
Also, it working perfectly. Hasnt hung one time at all and i used it for many days. Gmail, and everything.
One thing i remember from prvious days of flashing, and that i did this time too; remember to clear all cache, do a factory reset and stuff before you install the GAPPS. Maybe that will help. Not sure if factory reset is needed, but i remember that some of these things were important to clean first for it to be installed correctly. Once i didnt, and i ended up with the programs stopping like you described.
Good luck and many thanks mate

I just didn't want to use the Baidu App store or some other Chinese app shop because I don't know if they have mod'ed the apps to include data mining codes or not. Not that I store anything super secrete in my phone but I wanted official GPlay apps.
As for the my Google Chrome and Google Search crashing on me, I didn't find a way to fix them directly so I deleted the apps and reinstalled them now no problems at all.

***this is my first post so if its not very clear i am sorry***

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I recently purchased the SM-N9006 in Shanghai and just rooted the device following the exact same steps as you listed.
However, when I try to install the GApps file you linked it starts and then aborts the installation with the little Android icon fallen over and with a red !. Not sure what's going on but if anyone has run into this problem please let me know. Or if you have another GApps file that works please share.
Thanks again for your help!
N9006 English Replacement ROM
Would it be possible to flash a replacement ROM over the Chinese ROM and fix all of the Chinese issues? I brought the N9006 back from China to the USA and have no need for anything Chinese.
Seems for about the same effort it is a better solution if the hardware is close enough between the two ROMs.
Play now working but how to get Gmail, Google Music, Google Now, etc.?
Ok got the GApps file successfully installed. Next bit though...
How can I get apps not available in China like Gmail, Google Music, etc? Just seems limited which is a bummer. Thanks for your help!
Hi Guys,
I'm on the same boat since i have the N9002 version.
I have already managed to get the Gapps working except Google Now (Cannot show Cards).
I fount that Gapps in the link below to perform the best.
In order to get the Cards to show in Google Now, the device language should be set to (English US). which is missing in the CSC for the N9002 and most probably in your N9006's CSC.
So, we do need someone to help on adding other countries to our 9006 and 9002 CSCs
Cheers

Just go with a stock ROM?
I am looking at replacing the ROM with a custom ROM. I prefer a stock ROM but can not find out if any English Samsung stock ROMs will work on my N9006.
Any reason not to go with a custom ROM?

How are you getting Google Music and the TB Pro version installed?
My biggest challenge now is to install the Google Music app. I get the "not available in your country" whenever I try to download it. I've been doing a google search to open the direct link in the play store and that's when the error pops up. Same goes for whenever I try to upgrade the Titanium Backup to the Pro version.
So... my question, how are you guys getting the Google Music app installed? I'd really like it as I've synced my music with Google Music. I'm guessing I should try to find the .apk file somewhere and then install using the CWM at boot-up? Thanks for your help!

Many thanks! Works like a charm. Question - How are you finding the right/compatible downloads? I'm missing the Google Now if you have that and don't mind sharing. I'm trying to learn this whole Android thing but clearly not quick enough. Thanks again!
Did you try to browse the play store from your computer ?
As for Google Now, i could only me it work after Wipe Data and connecting through a VPN, but as soon as i installed my Unicom SIM card it stopped working.
On the other side, I think that by Adding my google account while VPN is on helped in relsoving the problem with Google Search crashing.
Let me know if you need Google Search.

We all seem to be having different experiences .. very strange.
I used the directions from gaylonalfano below, but the gapps file he recommended would not work. By using the gapps file from just above this message I got the store installed. (had to search for the file, the url was not valid) At first I received a lot of stoppage errors, after re-starting and re-registering several times the stoppages have reduced to almost none.
This bit of success was the key for me to switch SIMs and start to use the III as my primary phone. I look forward to a complete ROM update if additional Chinese ROM issues crop up.

Getting out of the China Play Store
I can share my experience, it may be relevant for some of you. I live in China, but don't read Chinese, so obviously don't want to deal with the Chinese version of the play store. Note, I buy my phones outside of China and dont' know anything about rooting, so this is just about the play store. If you're in China with an international version OR you have a China version and you're seeing the China play store and don't want to, this is how I fix....
On international phones, Play store looks first at sim, and then at Wifi to see what country you're in and what store to show you.
1. Power off
2. Remove Sim
3. Turn phone on
3a. If you're in China, connect to wifi, then connect to VPN and choose whatever country you want the playstore to think you're from
3b. If you're not in China, proceed to step 4
4. Go to application manager and find google play store, click on it and then press "Clear Data" and "Clear Cache"
5. Then open playstore. It should then present you with the version of the country you're in (or you're emulating being in over VPN).
If you live in China but want to buy apps, you'll need to go to the google wallet thing (only ever got it to work on PC over VPN) and then use a credit card that is NOT Chinese. Strangely I use a Singapore CC, but play store seems to think I'm in HK, either way ok with me as not CN.
Good luck, hope above helps. Note, again, this is pretty much for international people/phones in China, not sure if above is relevant for people with China phone in other countries.

location service apps crash

Hi there forum
I've recently been having issues with my Samsung Galaxy S5 (M900 series) mobile device regarding Location Service Apps (i.e. "Easy Taxi" & "Uber" apps).
I was using the Easy Taxi app for some time now with no issues since downloading it a while back and had also been using the Uber app just recently, but out of the out nowhere it they both no longer work. Upon starting up either app they both instantly close with the msg, "Unfortunately, <app name> has stopped."
I've looked a little bit online and some sites have stated that turning off "Android System Webview" might fix the issue. It did not.
Any help or ideas would be much appreciated.
Try clearing the caches in recovery, and from the faulting apps themselves
Just tried doing that and nothing. Easy taxi closes immediately, where as Uber allows me to log my login info again. Once I do that though it too closes immediately.

Same issue here - S5 BOB7 900F running Abasadii V4.2 Knox 0, with root
Dear XDA Community and fenixvive,
I have the same issue sinxe a couple of days. Just as you have reported, some apps just simply crash on start, some only when trying to access the locations.
I suspect that there was a security update sometime ago, as after having factory reset my phone, giving in failing to identify the culprit, once I have updated every, I keep getting the notification, that this or that would like to access my location, and if I let it- as far as I can remember, this was not there before, but please prove me wrong.
I have not updated my system firmware, nor received any OTA updates, just had let my Google and Samsung apps to be up-to-date.
Big mistake.
I have also contacted the Samsung app support, but I got an answer pointing towards a firmware update. Let me copy what they have answered :
Dear Customer
Thank you for contacting us. We appreciate the opportunity to assist you.
Please note that you contacted Samsung Content and Services. Here we can assist you if you encounter any issues related to Samsung Account, Samsung GALAXY Apps, Find My Mobile, etc.
For your situation regarding any system update issues, please contact our colleagues from Samsung Electronics.
We are definitely not alone. The Endomondo forum and Android central has also reports of this bug ...
I will try to restore some system apps to old versions from my Titanium Backup, hoping I will find the fix.. I will surely let you know, if I figured something out.
Until then:
Keep Calm and peace!
Thanks for the update Razor. From what I've read online, most of the other forums or sites are just recommending the easiest answer, which is trail and error. I took screenshots of the running and open apps running at the time.
(It's listed in the system report it sends along when you send an error report).
Since I'm not really an expert at debugging I'm gonna try it the brutish way and disable each app one at a time and troubleshoot it that way for now. It's a tad long list so I'll do it when I have the time.
I really do hope someone has a much better solution though.

A fix was found: updating to BOE6 with newest modem and bootloader
Dear fenixvive,
Thanks for the kind words, it seems that we have gone the same directions.
I am not a big debugger either, nor do I know everything about android, but I follow the basic try and error strategy.
I restored some system apps, and neither the old version of Android System Webview, nor the old Google Services Framework helped. However restoring the Google Play services indirectly helped me to find a fix. The old version forceclosed almost all (even the restored) Gapps.. I tried to make sure that everything was running the old versions, but they kept FCing after every restart. Since I messed up with system apps, a simple factory reset was no way to go, I had to reflash a new ROM. This is what solved my problem.
I went with an Odexed BOE7 rom, I chose _ALEXNDR's debloated version, but I suspect going for anything similar would be fine as well.. Just make sure you update the Modem and Bootloader as well, as I did so. Therefore I am not sure if updates to the BL or modem would have been enough on their own.
Regarding the specific versions I used, I just followed the links in _alexndr's third post
This for the bootloader, and this for the modem.
Flashing the rom with FlashFire was straightforward and also let me keep KNOX 0.
Kudos to all those senior members. They are truly amazing.
Maybe you can try first updating the modem and bootloader with your older rom and check if it is enough to fix your problem.
I hope you can solve your problem soon as well.
Same problem in my S5 G900M
I have the very same problem. I wonder if it only affects the G900M model.
I have read in a Google Play support thread that downgrading Google Play Services to a previous version make the problem go away. However I haven´t been able to reproduce that solution.
For the time being I don´t want to change the ROM, even though Touchwiz is not great, I just became used and don´t want to go through reconfiguring everything, so if anyone comes up with a solution that allow me to keep the ROM, please share.
Regards.
