RETURN PHONe to factory new state - EVO 4G General

I am having problems finding this anywhere on teh forums outside of a RUU.
My problem is my USB PORT DOES NOT WORK FOR data connections at all.
I need a copy of the stock ROM to flash. I need it to have all the stuff it normally would.
Phone is shutting off entering reboot cycle * pull bat* and wotn turn on for hours and hours on end. ALSO I am not looking for methods to fix this. I have antoehr forum and no nothing worked. (I have multiple batteries fully charges, multiple cables etc) so please no thinkign you can fix it. it has been tried and cant fix it.
I think it may be a hardware failure of some time but. Can anyone point me in the right direction. I already have the flashable zip to S-ON my phone just need the stock rom incase I can turn my phone on to take it into the store.

If you mean the stock rom, when you RUU, it takes you back to a stock, non-rooted rom.

I don't mean to be rude but I did say my USB DATA connections don't work.
is there a PC36IMG that could do this?

Get a program called WiFi file explore it allows you to get into your sdcard through WiFi download ruu and move it onto the card with this program no usb needed

The ruu as I understand is a executable file. not a flashable file. I have a adapter to use my memory card on my pc just need to know what will work.

Well what is your hboot? 2.10? If so, I'll link to the ruu in PC36IMG form from my dropbox.

i found a PC36 image that I am just going to flash I dont care about downgrading or rooting . Im taking my phone in for what has to be hardware failure.

It needs to be the right firmware, or it'll fail; just saying.

It should be the 2.10 then.
I got it from here. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/2018113-post130.html

Did the 1 click root successful and loaded up cyanogen 6 and then tried thinking I was a big dog and screwed around and f'd up my phone,it won't get past any of the recovery screens,I will link what I have gone through over at nof.net,sorry for the link but I suck at typing because it takes me forever so please read, also I will paypal 20 bucks who can get me out of this debacle. Thanks.
oops can't link cause I'm new but If you are kind enough to go to nexusoneforums.net and read it ,It's titled In deep doodoo.
Basically it won't boot past the x no matter what i do,but I can see everything is still on my memory card through my laptop

I think you need to locate a stock, signed update zip file and put it on your sd card. I'd do this seperate from the phone. Take the card out and put it in your laptop or whatever you have to read it.
I'd then get back to where your were on page four of your other thread where it says apply update zip.
you don't know if you have the stock recovery img still? or Ra or clockwork?
your phone isn't broke, I wouldn't worry too much.
You also don't know if you bootloader is unlocked or not?
heres frf91 full if you choose to go this route http://www.mediafire.com/?xniymzimojg

Sounds to me like you need to relax a little and read a bit more before jumping in with both feet... Rooting isn't necessarily for everyone.
I won't ever ever attempt this again.

ahh don't do that! I don't even want to begin to count how many bootloops I've had, I'm pretty sure I've seen more of that X than I have of my home screen. I think once you've messed up once and had someone help you to fix it it kinda implants into your head how to fix it in the future. My only advice for future attempts is to Nandroid backup (make sure you have atleast 1 sure working back up, then do further updated back ups along side it)
Can someone tell me which file I need in post #5 for a tmobile n1.Thanks

jbrinkley,I downloaded the file and put it on the memory card, but I'm still getting the same x screen, anything else I can try.

I don't want to fail with my phone.Trust me when and If I get it working I will stay in my lane and leave the rooting to you guys.
Flashing back to thw original stock rom should fix it there's a link posted above. Atleast it worked when I had a g1 and royally screwed up. I would try that first.

I cant,or obviously don't know how to flash back to the original rom.Don't mean to sound ungrateful but it appears nobody is reading about the problem I'm having ,again I'm stuck at the x and can't get out.
I will paypal 20 bucks to the person who helps me out of this mess
OK, relax... take a deep breath... and try this out...
1. Download a full ROM zip (e.g. Passion-EPE54B.zip) from http://mediafire.com/n1passion
2. Pop out your SD card and pop that zip onto your SD card, be sure to rename it to PASSIMG.zip
3. Boot into bootloader mode (power off -> trackball + power)
4. The phone should pick up the PASSIMG.zip and ask you if you would like to update it... select yes!!
This will restore you to the stock EPE54B image, you can then download the FRF91 OTA or re-root you phone...
Craig,I downloaded the file from post#9 and renamed it PASSIMG.zip and went to bootloader and the x came up again,do I need to use the 54 one you were talking about to get to 91,sorry but I'm smartphone illiterate as hell.I get a message that says no image or wrong image
If I try to apply sd card update I get this message
failed to open\sdcard\update.zip(no such file or directory)
E signature verification failed
Installation aborted
Does it matter where on the memory card the file is at?
what we don't know is what recovery you have, if you bootloader is unlocked or not.
I don't know anything about that one click method. if you have a nandroid file on you sd look in there and see if you have actual backups.
and now i can't remember if you got to the restore menu or not.

How To Recover Your Fascinate From Any Brick, And Rooting Methods

HOW TO UN-BRICK YOUR FASCINATE NOW THAT YOU HAVE BRICKED IT
SINCE IT HAS COME TO MY ATTENTION SOME POEPLE ARE CONFUSED ABOUT WHAT PHONE THIS IS FOR, I WILL MAKE IT AS CLEAR AS POSSIBLE
THIS IS FOR THE VERIZON FASCINATE
So you think you bricked your phone? The first thing you need to do is CALM DOWN, NO NEED TO PANIC , the odds are great that following this guide will fix your mistakes and recover your phone.
Sorry Fascinate owners, but I can no longer support this thread. As state below I test everything I post to make sure it works as advertised. I no longer have a fascinate so i can not test anything new. Sorry but the links to some of the files are gone I don't have them anymore so I suggest you look through the comments someone will have someplace to get what you need. Your recovery methods may have changed but this can still be used to recover your device. If you are looking for anything new look at nitsuj17's roll up post here, he maintains it very well so you should be able to find whatever else you need there.
I HAVE PURPOSELY BRICKED MY PHONE BY DOING THE THINGS YOU ARE TOLD NOT TO JUST TO TEST THE CAPABILITIES OF THESE RECOVERY PROGRAMS. UNLESS YOU CAN AFFORD TO HAVE YOUR PHONE REPLACED BY INSURANCE, TRUST THAT I KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT.
SECTION 1: ODIN
SECTION 2: HEIMDALL
SECTION 3: ROOTING METHODS
Since there seems to be an abundance of posts in the Q&A and General Forums asking for help fixing, unbricking, their Fascinates, I decided to try to make a one stop walk through for odin and heimdall with links. Most of us "flash addicts", Developers, and testers have found the Samsung Galaxy Phones are nearly impossible to truly brick without causing physical damage to your phone, in almost all cases it is possible to get it working again. This is nothing more than how to get back a working STOCK phone, nothing custom here that's in the Development section. The first section will cover odin, the second heimdall, the third recovery and rooting.
USUAL WARNING: Everything here is done at your own risk. None of us on the XDA Developers site are responsible in any way, after all we didn't brick it you did. Doing any of this is your decision, I am just providing a collection of information. All credit for everything here belongs to others, who worked hard to give you a way to fix your mistakes, and it usually is the owner of the device trying something without learning how first, or not following directions that got you here in the first place.
My Phone wont boot at all, is stuck at logo, or I cant do anything with it is it a paperweight?
Most likely, no, so lets get to fixing it. All download links necessary for each process will be posted in this walk through and have been tested to make sure they work.
SECTION 1: ODIN
Everything except for the pit file in odin MUST be done in the PDA slot, if not it will not work requiring you to odin again, or possibly have to use heimdall (covered later in this thread) to fix that. After you download odin, I use v1.83 but I will provide all versions I have.
First you need to decide if you want to go all the way back to DI01 (Android 2.1 "Eclair") or EB01, EC01, or a little more involved process for ED01, or ED03 (android 2.2 "Froyo") it makes all the difference with the files you need. The pit file is not necessary for most recoveries, but I have included due to a few issues that will require you to completely wipe everything but your SD card and start over. All of this is possible thanks to our talented developers. After you have odin and all the files you need on your Windows Vista or Win 7 PC, This DOES NOT work on XP, I have had a lot of responses to support this, so lets go with it won't work use Vista or Win 7. To load any file you click that button and use the windows explorer pop up to find your file select it and click open at the bottom of the window.
Start by powering off phone, the pull out battery.
Open odin and load your file in PDA and ONLY THE PDA (downloads) section, If you knew enough about this program to use the other areas you would not need this walk through, soPDA and ONLY THE PDA (downloads) section, for an, all in 1 Recovery. If you are doing a non packaged update I suggest installing the rom one first, modems and recoveries are a lot faster install.
If you are repartitioning put the pit file in the (Pit) section, verify repartition is checked.
Plug your phone into a USB slot, then hold the volume down hard key on the side of the phone. You should see a yellow triangle with a construction droid on your phones screen, and a box on the left right above options (ID:COM) is now yellow.
Now you are in download mode, verify check box next to PDA is checked and the block has the file location in it. Make sure Repartition (unless you are repartitioning and have the pit file in place), Dump, Phone EFS clear, and Bootloader, Phone Bootloader Update, and Flash Lock are NOT CHECKED in the Options section. Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time can be checked or not it doesn't really matter with the battery out. These are the default settings in the options section but double check it anyway.
You are ready to go, click start, and let odin run, it can take anywhere from just a minute to around a half hour. If anything happens like your computer shuts off, you accidentally unplug your phone from your PC, or download failed. Don't freak, just do it again from step one, sometimes it takes multiple attempts to get it. I think at six failed attempts in a row it may be time to look into heimdall, the walk through for that is below this one.
Once odin finishes and does its test you will get a green box lit up that says Pass in it just above where you saw the yellow box showing you were connected. Congratulations on a successful recovery. reinstall your battery and the back cover, reboot your phone and wait for it to boot up. The boot process can take several minutes so be patient. If the boot was successful you should be looking at a stock bloated Verizon Fascinate, that is asking you to back up your system and log into Gmail.

EC09 Gingerbread Leak CAUTION:It has not happened to me yet even after several times of flashing something custom and using this to odin back to stock with, but there are many reports of this corrupting users SD cards. This is a leak and as always USE THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!
Here are the ONLY TWO, as far as we know guaranteed to get you fixed up, odin files, for anyone coming from CM7 or MUI MTD for the Fascinate.
YOU MUST USE THE ATLAS V2.2 PIT FILE, ONE OF THESE FILES, AND REPARTITION. IF YOU DON'T ODIN WILL FAIL TO COMPLETE THE RECOVERY.

CI500_VZW_EB01_FROYO
SECTION 2: HEIMDALL
Now for the heimdall walk through, so follow along. I don't think it is possible to completely brick this phone short of actually smashing it, why take unnecessary chances.
First go to the link for heimdall. Download, unzip this and open the folder. In this folder you will find another folder labeled Drivers, open it and you will see a program called zadig.
Now put your Phone into download mode, that is remove the back cover, take out the battery and plug it into your PC with the OEM cable (the one that came with the phone when you got it), then press and hold the down volume button till a yellow triangle and construction droid , now you are in download mode.
Double click zadig and when it opens, click on options and click list all devices. Now drop the usb drop down box and you will find an option for SAMSUNG android composite ADB device, or Samsung composite usb driver, select it then click install drivers. the usual install stuff from windows about do you want to install this, yes you do. Now If the warning about publisher could not be verified, whatever, install it anyway, no it's not a virus. Your phone MUST be in download mode or zadig will not have the USB you need as an available option.
Now you need the files for this program to install and recover your phone. I was motivated to set up a zip file for download with files ready due to confusion on how to accomplish this step, you will find links below.
Now back into the heimdall file you opened earlier you will need to double click the heimdall.exe file, and click run on the windows pop up, it will show a cmd prompt type screen then disappear shortly after, it's supposed to do that.
Again in the click the application called heimdall-frontend. here is where you can go wrong so I will do this side by side with heimdall names and DI01/EB01 file names. I don't believe there are currently any other full recoveries.
To eliminate confusion on where to put your files follow the guige below.
Heimdall on this side of =Recovery file names on this side.
In Repartition:
PIT = atlas_v2.2.pit see below.
In PDA/Code:
FactoryFS=factoryfs.frs
Kernel(zImage)=zImage
Param.lfs=param.lfs
Primary Bootloader=boot.bin
Secondary Bootloader=slb.bin
In CSC:
Cache=cache.rfs
Database Data=dbdata.rfs
In Other:
Modem=modem.bin
Recovery=recovery.bin
Now that all the are files loaded into the correct spots, the necessary drivers installed, and phone in download mode, the start button will be able to be clicked, not shaded outlines like before, did you even notice that? If you followed everything in this tutorial step by step, click the START button and let heimdall run. After it finishes reboot your Verizon stock, Bing bloated, WORKING Fascinate. After this is completed successfully you will be able to use odin again if you need or want to.
Heimdall
DI01 heimdall package
EB01 heimdall package
Why did this happen?
Why was this necessary, as far as I can find out, through research, I wont even try to figure out how many times I had to odin ,and the eight, yes that's right I said 8, times I have HAD to use heimdall, because my phone would not recover through odin. Usually because like me you flashed a rom on for a different phone or, it seems to be, dbdata or another partition can not mount. This has happened to me because I didn't remove voodoo, or flashed a pre edify rom after accidently putting cwr3, which is for edify, on a non edify rom. So moral of the story is twofold, yes it is very likely it can be fixed, and remove voodoo before going to nonvoodoo, and make sure you have a version of cwr that supports both ammend and edify script if you are not sure. Don't flash a rom for a different phone on your Verizon Fascinate or you most likely WILL need heimdall.
NEVER USE A FILE, ROM, KERNEL, ANYTHING, THAT IS NOT CLEARLY FOR THE VERIZON FASCINATE.
Remember, thank the developers by clicking the thanks button on threads you find helpful, they did the work. All I did was take some time and put together all the links and processes I have read and had to learn. Some of the walk through threads are well written by the Dev's and some were hard for me to follow. Sometime I wonder if our Dev's forget that us mere mortals have no idea what they are talking about, and I pride myself on being much better than average with computers and software. That said if you have trouble working e mail and office, I think it's fair to say you would be lost. I hope this is easy to follow and always successful for you. Better yet I hope you never need this.
READ:If heimdall, or odin fail, but you can still get into download mode, do it again, and keep trying while you look for further assistance on this site. If you can't get into download mode with your phone plugged into your PC, unplug usb from PC and plug it into the wall outlet, and try to put it into download mode there. When It goes into download mode, unplug usb from adapter, plug it into PC and put it into download mode, This does work.
If this has Helped you not have a $600 dollar paperweight, consider donating to some of our Dev's working so hard to not only give you better than what big red and sammy gave you, but also a way to fix your mistakes without the need for an insurance claim. Isn't it worth a few bucks to support the developers who save you from the insurance deductable? Think about that before you complain about the devs.
SECTION 3: ROOTING METHODS
Here are two easy ways to accomplish rooting your phone.
ROOTING YOUR PHONE VOIDS YOUR WARRANTY. I NOR ANYONE ELSE WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING YOU CHOOSE TO DO. NO ONE HERE IS MAKING YOU DO ANYTHING, JUST PROVIDING INFORMATION ON WAYS TO ACCOMPLISH WHAT YOU WANT TO DO.
Super One Click method: unzip file, open file, double click ADB, it will show a quick cmd like window. Now make sure you phone has USB debugging enabled, connect to PC, don't mount USB. Click the SuperOneClick.exe icon and let it run. If it fails run it again, sometimes it does that. If anything pops up on the screen, read and answer. Unless you are using a Captivate leave the Captivate tab alone it is for getting an unlock code and you don't need that for your Fascinate. (works on all fascinate stock OS to include ED03, and EC09 GB, tested by me.)
CWR & SU Method: (DOES NOT WORK ON 2.2.1) Put superuser.zip zip file on root of SD card, odin in cwr, boot phone into recovery by holding power and volume at same time. To do this simply install battery after unpluging from PC press and hold power and volume buttons at the same time. DO NOT let the phone boot as far as the Samsung logo or you will have to odin in cwr again. Go to Install zip, choose zip, install from SD card. Find your superuser.zip file and install it. Reboot, you are rooted, install busybox, free from market if necessary. If you need odin or instruction on using it, see section 1.
GINGERBREAK Method: Gingerbreak v1.20.apk is an easy to do method, put the apk on your sd card, install from file manager, run it.
KEEPING CWR3 IN 2.2.1: To keep CWR on any ED OTA release you need to make some adjustments to a few files. Don't worry I am going to tell you which ones, and I suggest a simple method of adding .no to the end of the file. That way if you ever need to undo it, simply go back in and remove the .no and your not trying to remember what the file name and extension was. Now here are the file names for each file, you will need something like root explorer and a rooted Fascinate to do this, and you can't rename a file unless you tap the mount system as r/w not r/o, its easy here are the examples of how I did it.
/system/recovery-from-boot.p becomes /system/recovery-from-boot.p.no
/system/bin/recovery becomes /system/bin/recovery.no
/system/etc/install-recovery.sh becomes /system/etc/install-recovery.sh.no

This is a great source of information. The formatting could be a little better though. Perhaps break up those great giant paragraphs a bit. It would be easier to follow along. Especially for noobs in a panic state after "bricking" their phone.
Great work though. This should be stickied.
I will Update thread to an easier format over the next few days. Thanks for the tip, i looked good to me but now i see what you are talking about. It took hours today to gather all the info, pull up each program ans walk through it. I guess I was in mental overload.
Attempted Heimdall today after odin has failed using the EB01, error was "Failed to retrieve config descriptor" any ideas?
If I flash with all CSC options unchecked the flash is successful.
When trying to boot after flash without CSC i receive a phone and a computer with a dotted line connecting the to on power up. Phone will return to DL mode.
Also attempted to flash DL01, it seems there are several files that correspond with Heim that are not in the package are the EB01 files interchangeable with the missing files?
Not trying to be that guy, but the DL01 is actually DI01. The build number DL01 doesnt exist.

More reasons as to why you should never fear bricking your phone and testing new kernels and ROMs. Thank you for the thorough tutorial.

Got that once cause i didn't install the drivers in zadig. I installed it, didn't reboot PC, worked fine. If you had the CSC unchecked then you didnt install a cache or database, so no your phone wont work like that. Unless you ran into something new, follow this guide step by step, and it should work. I would also make sure you get the files from here, they are tested and known to be good. There are some incomplete, and bad files out there, these work.
Heimdall is officially the greatest piece of software ever created and DaleV is my hero!!! FINALLY have my phone up and running again! Was serious contemplating dropping around $300 for a new phone on Craigslist.

after it failed did you unplug then replug and go back into download mode? also I updated the OP with a superuser.zip file it works better than the one in the market for showing you have root access, I have no idea why.
Also you might try a different usb port, sometimes that does the trick.
I've unplugged and replugged and rebooted it a dozen times... it first goes to 2e recovery, then I reinstall packages and it reboots to the simplified download mode with just basic little icons. Doesn't get recognized by the computer though. :/
Wont boot into anything but 2e, and from there into oldschool download mode.

[Q] Charger port broke, phone rooted, what now?

My EVO doesn't charge anymore. Guess my port got broken. My phone is rooted, and I dont have PC syncing capabilities. Is there a way to restore my phone back to the stock sprint rom so i can take it in for service or get a new phone? Does a hard reset restore the stock sprint rom? Im running the MIUI rom As u can tell im sort of a newb
Find a PC36IMG file of a stock, unrooted ROM and flash it through the bootloader.
Get a cheap standalone battery charger on ebay. While you're at it, get a microSD card adapter that you can load into a SD card reader. Charge your battery that way since the micro-usb doesn't work. Pull out your microSD card from the phone and load into adapter. Put an RUU file onto the microsd through your comp then put the microsd back into phone with the charged battery and you should be back to stock.
Another option, just bring to Sprint store and have them fix the micro-usb port. Their policy has changed and they should repair your phone even if it's rooted.
Make sure you have a fully charged battery before going back to stock. Download the unrevoked s-on tool from the unrevoked website, along with the most recent RUU in PC36IMG.zip form. Make sure that the RUU is named correctly - all caps, only one zip at the end. You will not need to add .zip to the end in the process of renaming.
Boot the phone into recovery & flash the s-on zip. Power the phone down and boot into the bootloader via volume down + power buttons. Make sure it says "Ship S-on" at the top. The phone will scan and find the RUU (as long as it's on the root of the card and named correctly), then ask you to update. Choose yes, then wait for it to flash. When it's done, choose yes when it asks you to reboot and you'll be good to go.
While Sprint will fix rooted phones with hardware problems, a broken port is not fixable. You also don't want them flagging your account. You will have to get a new phone, so you can toss any nandroid backups - do not attempt to restore them on your new phone. While it may be possible, you don't want to risk messing up your wimax... along with other things. You can restore user apps with Titanium Backup, but restoring system settings is probably a bad idea. Good luck!

Good luck!

I had the same problem you had. This method worked best for me.
where do i get the most recent RUU in PC36IMG.zip form? I have the stock sprint radio file but its exe.
"RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed.exe"
Do i rename this to PC36IMG.zip or do i need to download something else.
edit:
Or i download this file and rename to PC36IMG.zip?
PC36IMG_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.26.651.6_Radio_2.15.00.07.28_NV_1.40_release_140444-signed.zip
Use the one I'm going to link you to. Rename it to PC36IMG.zip, leave the .zip intact - don't add it again. Then follow the directions I posted earlier.

ok thanks!
Another thing for future refrence . I personally keep a folder on my SD card named "Emergency restore" Just in case . It contains the PC36IMG.zip and the Unrevoked S-on tool . Granted in the event the screen was broken or something to that extent and I still had some control over the phone I can still restore back to stock if I am away from my computer at home . Just an idea
ok i turned on the s-on via the "unrevoked-forever-son" tool. I put the image into the sdcard root and it checked the zip file but it didnt ask me to update
loading...PC36D1AG.zip.....no image
loading...PC36D1AG.nbh .....no image or wrong image
then it loads the PC36IMG.zip and checks it, but no update.
Whats wrong?
@SouthernEvo, thats a good idea, thanks
Try downloading again, then booting into the bootloader and letting it scan. You can always try letting the bootloader scan your current one again as well. It doesn't say "no image or wrong image", correct?
I almost recommended running an RUU from your computer, but you can't connect... duh. If it still won't work after redownloading, try a different one.

im thinking its not updating because im not flashing the latest radio maybe? my version says:
Radio-2.15.00.11.19 do i need to get one after this version in order for it to update?
im downloading another RUU file. Hopefully it may work. As it looks, my phone is already running the latest. Idk...i actually dont know wth im talking about anymore lol
EDIT: Figured out it was my SD card causing the problems. Switched to the stock 8gb card and now it works. Flashed back to Stock. New phone comes Friday

Ok, I think your a little ****fussed.
What you are looking for is the PD15IMG.zip depending on what you are trying to do there is the stock 2.2.1 and the latest 2.3.4.
it will factory reset your phone and S= on if you use the latest 2.3.4 there isn't a way to root it yet.

Nope..i want diag not img
I noticed that bootloader checks fire this file and began wondering what its purpose may be.
Since diag is in the file name I assumed it me be a diagnostic/service software that may assist with hard bricked phones

The two files that you are looking for is related to the PD15IMG.zip. It's the native firmware to restore the phone back to a 100% OE fashion. EVERY phone looks for those when we boot into hBOOT and if you have them on your SDcard you will not be able to use hBoot effectively. The phone will boot, look for those files, then ask you to update. If you do, it'll return your phone back to stock. If you don't it'll reboot the phone. Thus eliminating the use of the options in hBoot.
I asked this very same question when i first got my MyTouch4G and was told those files are not needed unless you want to go back to 100% stock. And even then all you need is the PD15IMG.zip, as mentioned above.
If you phone is truely hard bricked and you cannot get into Recovery or hBoot, then the phone is truly bricked. If you can get into hBoot, have a good eMMC chip, the PD15IMG.zip will restore the phone.

Ok let me try this again. What the bootloader is looking for is an update zip this zip has to be named PD15IMG.zip for it to be recognized. The diag files are already in the bootloader that's what is looking for the PD15IMG.zip. You shouldn't be messing with your bootloader if you don't know how it works.

Clockwork Mod without USB

I know this is possible depending on the phone, but on the Vibrant I have not found a way to install clockwork mod without using USB. I saw that mobile odin was an option for some samsung phones but not the Vibrant.
My usb port is dead, no warranty etc. I bought it for 70 in like new condition with knowledge that the port was bad. I figured that the port needed to be soldered back down. But after taking the phone apart, I don't see anything wrong with it. Its not loose on the board, but the socket itself is loose inside.
The baseband is KA2 Eclair. I got it rooted with the oneclickroot tool.
On a side note, the phone also came with pictures of the seller and all his girlfriends naked . Not pretty
So let me review what you want to do, you want to install CWR without having a USB port. Seems easy enough.
Firstly, find a app that will let you connect to your phone to your computer, apps like Dropbox, Box, and this app i put up on these forums a bit ago will do more than just the job HERE
install one of those, which ever you like. I'll use the MIUI File Manager as a example throughout this post because its the easiest.
Open the app, go to the FTP and start service, go to your computer open MY COMPUTER and type in ftp://all your #'s
Put this file in your ROOT meaning just in sdcard/ no folders just drag and drop it in there. DO NOT RENAME,EXTRACT OR ANYTHING TO THE .ZIP just put it in the sdcard/
*Thanks for the CWR file from Woodrube and S15*
Now go into Recovery mode on your phone
Power + Volume up and down ( i think )
Press REINSTALL PACKAGES
It SHOULD say something like booting into clockwork recovery.
it will reboot, if it goes to clock work recovery, GREAT. If not, press Reinstall Packages AGAIN and it should directly go there.
Just reply if i'm explaining something wrong or if you need more help.
Or you could just download and install rom manager and flash clockworkmod through there. No offense xriderx, just seems like a lot of work to just install cwr that a single app can do as well.

To each his own, Rom Manager never has worked great on my phone. Even bricked it completely once and I don't believe it was user error.
Relevant guide, +1 cookie. One suggestion though, organize the steps a bit further so there is a clear distinction between steps.
ie:
• Now go into Recovery mode on your phone, Power + Volume up and down ( i think )
• Press REINSTALL PACKAGES. It SHOULD say something like booting into clockwork recovery. it will reboot, if it goes to clock work recovery, GREAT. If not, press Reinstall Packages AGAIN and it should directly go there."
Anywho, to the OP: Since it's rooted, why aren't you simply downloading ROM Manager from the market and installing CWR from there?
edit/ beaten
Don't get me wrong, your tutorial is spot on, I just never had any problems with ROM manager before so I threw it out as a suggestion.

As far as the port goes, Eugene, Krylon360 and myself all fried ours when we were porting the V4G - so you may not visibly see anything wrong with it at all.
Thanks guys, I ended up semi bricking the phone . Even though it was my 6th droid device. Not sure what I did, I was in recovery and everything was working, then went to reboot and it was stuck on the Galaxy screen, could no longer get into recovery. Too bad that USB port was out . I ended up just reselling it to a guy for parts and still made some profit off it. Shame though, that AMOLED display was beautiful. Ended up getting a G2X yesterday for 195, just missed one at 150 on craigslist. Already got it up with CM 7.2 with a minor OC. Hopefully towards then end of this year I might be able to get a Galaxy 2 for cheap.

i have tried this.
but gingerbread loader and froyo loader are different.
it gave an error at flashing and stopped flashing.
Hmmm. That would require fastboot huh. Don't know of a wireless way to use that. Is there an unroot procedure you could do from your sdcard without a cord and then re-root to gb perhaps?

and i'm asking for something like this.
but i ask for froyo not unroot.
to flash from sd card.
it gives an error
Amend scripting (update-script) is no longer supported.
Amend scripting was deprecated by Google in Android 1.5
it was necessary to remove it when upgrading to the clockworkMod 3.0 Gingerbread based recovery.
Please switch to Edify scripting (updater-script and updare-binary) to create working update zip packages.
installation aborted.
I don't think it is possible to downgrade to froyo from CM7 without ODIN. I might be wrong but that is how i remember it.
Though i did find this thread..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1149158
But i don't know how that worked for people. You might wanna research a little bit more. IMO you are better off going to ICS.

Just use Odin, don't shortcut it. The OP here has a very very basic idea of the reason and necessity to change these files, and has not provided a complete set of steps in two different "guides" he has posted here, and nobody has been successful as per the reports.
Bottom line, save both yourself and dev in the future a headache, and just use Odin.

its very sad ((((
Just a reminder to some who have USB port problems. I'm not trying to insult anyone's intelligence here but remember Samsung phones are picky about USB cables.
I know because my phone was Semi bricked while doing Odin. Turned out my original Samsung cable went bad halfway through Odin'ing a new bootloader. After two months of playing with it I tried literally 5 different data cables that all fully worked for other phones and a few cheap off the street cables. Some would not even charge my vibrant but would work fine for data and charge on my wife's LG Quantum. Hard to find good micro-USB cables here in Peru. Finally I ended up modifying my original cable with another cable's micro-usb connector and wrapping a separate ground wire around the shield to get it to work. Samsung phones must require really good shielding to communicate and possibly not all cables have the shield connected on both sides or are properly shielded.
