360 wireless controller not detected - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

So i bought the usb adapter and tried to connect a 360 wireless controller with it. I saw a video on youtube claiming 360 wireless pc receiver can be directly connected to motorola xoom and recognised, the wireless controller was then connected without problem. But when i tried this on g tab 10.1 it just don't work, always told me unknown usb device connected. Does it mean i have to find a driver for this device? How come xoom can detect it without problem?
I'm using star burst rom. Could anyone tell me what i should do to make it work?

Think you need a kernel with the 360 module loaded, like Pershoots kernel. Seems like Samsung didn't include those drivers, which is weird because one of the new features in Honeycomb 3.1 was support for input devices like game controllers.

Pershoot's kernel released today just added support for the UX ROM. I just flashed Pershoot's kernel on my tab running Starburst and it runs great.

which kernel did you flash? I will be flashing starburst again and do this all again.

Just go to the thread and flash the latest from droidbasement, the reason your tab get getting bricked is because pershoot hadn't released the proper kernel yet, I'm running the latest and its awesome + Game controllers work =)

[Q] Which Kernel Supports HDMI Output?

So, I finally bought an HDMI cable for My EVO, but when I did some research Most Kernels Do not support HDMI Output..!!!!
FML RIght!!!
so, I was wondering.....................
Which Kernels support HDMI Output while not sacrificing most of the Benefits of having a Custom Kernel..
I am currently running Netarchy Toastmod 4.1.9.1
I would greatly Appreciate it if someone can point me in the right direction!

If you are using one of my kernel builds you already have hdmi output support.
I am Using your Kernel !! Love it by the way!!
Just that whenever I hook up my cable to my Phone nothing happens?????
Is it the Rom thats causing this then??? im using Virus Rom Sense RC3
if So, how can I fix this?
HDMI output doesn't work for every function on the phone, only certain ones. So you won't get your home screen on your HDMI TV, for instance.
Slideshow, YouTube and gallery video will play over hdmi. Nets roms all support hdmi except the fresh compatible cfs 4.1.9.1 does not do Slideshow. If you flash that first and then flash anything else other than the stock kernel Slideshow still won't work.
I was Using Netarchy 4.1.9.1 but when I connected the HDMI cable. Nothing popped up in the homescrean showing that I had connected an HDMI Cable to the Phone.. its like if nothing happened!

Best rom for my iconia

Currently on the flashable .22 3.1. What in your opinion is the best rom for this device.
Sent from my A500 using XDA Premium App
I just ordered this tab myself and I'm interested in opinions on the ROMs available. Are there many developers at this point?
so far now...
- Galaxy
- Picasso
- Xoom (3.2)
from the virtuous team
with kernel UNITY
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Honeyvillain (Stock Acer improved )
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Taboonay (Stock Acer improved )
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
the best??? hummm should better try them before.
Ya I couldn't say which one is best either but I do love the functions on Virtuous Galaxy. Personally I'm going to wait a few more months or a year before I play with any ROM's -
Unless of course that Galaxy ROM gets perfected. I'm twitching for it.
I myself tried both Virtuous Galaxy and Virtuous Xoom and I have to say I really like the Xoom one better. It's smoother, and I experienced odd input lag on the Galaxy one. Both are however several notches better than the HC 3.0 by Acer!
just messin...
Just now messing with from mods on my iconia. Do the zoom or galaxy roms support the USB drive?

That's a bummer. Nothing about the Xoom version interests me.
Here's hoping the Galaxy version gets better *crosses fingers*
running stock 3.1
CWM installed and ready to go - but have not flashed any custom roms, as the system running stock 3.1 works great for my purposes. If this changes I will consider going the custom ROM route

No problem with this rom for me. Wireless is working great wireless teather to my droid inc phone and everything else working so far. Just put this rom on today about 6 hours ago.

You say that now, but flashing is addictive. Once you realize what else your device is capable of, you will continue to modify it to fit your needs. My Galaxy Tab is far more than it was when I purchased it. I will continue to use it due to its voice capabilities.

I would say...
I tested every rom on XDA for A500
Xoom : no improvement, actually I felt like a downgrade rather than something else...not because a bad rom but maybe just because not fit to my need.
Galaxy: I love the UI, but.... feel like an overall slugggginess... the widget are maybe too much... I didn't checked the latest latest version so maybe it's improved... (the 5Mpx was not yet fixed...)
Picasso: Dunno... didn't see like a better things
Taboonay: this rom satisfied all my needs but lately maybe because of kernel... felt like some problem happening
ALL those rom have a common point I do not like it's the "automatic" 3G support... well I didn't buy my tablet to get 3G on it from a third part things or modified things... I just tether with my phone and it's really enough.
latelly I restocked my tabletS (both of them) one run the .40 and the other .38 well I am satisfied
maybe later I will return on custom rom
I rooted my tablet, that is at this moment fit my needs.
it all comes to your own personal preferences. I would encourage you to just try out a few and see what you like best. The virtuous team does do a very nice job with their roms though. I'm currently using virtuous zoom 3.2 but I do like the virtuous galaxy too but it needs a little work.
Honeyvillain (Stock Acer improved )
is best for me, more over, richardtrip is my favorite dev. since HTC Desire appeared.
I have a 3.1 that works and has least no. of FCs and odd things, comparing to stock rom by acer
My tab has a problem that it shut itself when in sleep mode , i would say 50% chance.
Tried most of the roms and no rom solve it 100%.
Now, Im with xoom3.2 ,,, so far so good (but just 3 hours ago)
Any idea???? Is it hardware or soft ware problem????
Of the ones I've tried:
Honeyvillan: was the best for me for a while - everything worked and was stable.
Virtuous_galaxy: I like the UI extensions, but external SD card could not be accessed via file manager. Keyboard didn't work, and I believe video camera didn't work well. Also exchange didn't work.
Virtuous Xoom: appears to be the best now. The things that need to work for me are:
cifs
exchange email
sd card access
video camera
gps
All these above things work. I did see one hard crash/reboot so far but seems basically stable. Its also overclockable, which Honeyvillan didn't seem to be.
The basic reason I like the Virtuous Xoom best is because HC 3.2 has pretty much fixed the orientation lag issue, where the UI wouldn't be as responsive if the tab is not in default orientation. I velcro it upside down on the dash in my car (for certain reasons).
The USB keyboard does not work, but I see there are instructions in the forum for getting that going. I actually don't need it very often anymore, thanks to the swiftkey X keyboard.

Best custom rom to go with?

I will be getting my tablet tomorrow as soon as Fed Ex gets here , what I am wondering is which custom rom available for the a500 is the best one to go with? Personally I am a heavy wifi user, and will be using my tablet a lot for browsing, social, RDP, advanced experimenting, etc. I want to make sure I choose the best rom for that is fairly stable and will not have issues with the above mentioned things.
I am no stranger to roms, I have done many many phones and devices from WebOS devices to hacking some WinCE GPS units, so I am not afraid of a rom being slightly more technical to use.
I'm using honeyvillain 3.1. Very fast and stable. I'm also using opera web browser instead stock one because i think is more powerful and useful. With virtousxoom i cannot connect any usb hd. I've tried virtous picasso. It was good but sometimes iconia doesn't wake up from standby. I need to force reboot my tablet using reset button.

Honeyvillain was one of the ones I have been considering, any quirks you find with it? Anything that should be done to it in your opinion once installed?
Also one of the reasons I am not just going with honeyvillian is no longer being supported... So I am not sure because I want to make sure whatever rom I go with will be supported .
Galaxy v1.0.5 very stable pretty fast, can see SD card, screen shoot button, good battery drain with airplane mode on and wifi.Try them all then you have the feel for each one just like most of us on here did.
I think I've tried just about every ROM on the boards , and while much of it is personal preference, ie: eyecandy and video with Virtuous Galaxy , good all around ROM Virtuous Picasso, and HoneyVillian, Virtuous Xoom which is a good solid ROM with no great battery drain, and iirc deejay has straightened out the USB storage issue. But my all time favorite so far is Virtuous Thrive, only out in it's second iteration, it's already the most stable ROM I've personally used. Like I said though, a lot of it is just personal preference.
Yeah I am sure I will probably end up trying them all out anyway. I just looked at my tracking, it's only 300 miles away now!

Yeah I seriously thought about going to the local target, but after local sales tax it would of been almost $440 out the door, and then $50 of that savings I would of made would be limited to target. I got one on ebay for $395 + Fedex 2 Day shipping, not too bad. With the roughly $45 I saved in real cash I am weighting out the current case options.
I am considering getting the one I think I saw you got, could be wrong though. On ebay they have those $20 ones that ship out of hong kong with a USB Keyboard, though on amazon and a few other e-retailers you can get them shipped from state side for roughly $30. I figured I could hold off on the case for a little bit and give the after market some time to get some accessories out and let some of the prices drop.
I really love the idea of the case with the keyboard, I do a lot of programming and typing based stuff so for me having a keyboard would be ideal, though I am not a fan of those KB cases in the fact that they are not designed very well, any tablet fitted into one can slip right out if tipped (nothing stopping it from sliding upward), though I imagine I could easily engineer a fix for that , though I also want to find a nice sling bag or backpack for traveling about, it's a tad bit too big for your pocket.
One of the first projects I want to work on is getting ubuntu or backtrack running, I've seen installers on the market and from what I understand they seem to work fairly well, I really hope too that someone manages to port WebOS to the a500, I imagine it would be quite possible. Maybe just a bit of a hassle with some drivers.
Have not tried the thrive yet - i just always end up back at the galaxy, hard on the juice a lot of needless apps seem to run in the background (mdj!) but it just is so smooth no browser screen ripping and its the fastest so far according to:

Just got my device 30 min ago, as soon as I connected to the wifi on the initial setup it asked me to download the new 3.1 update , which it is currently installing. Then I will do a backup and try the thrive rom.
Got my device flashed to Thrive, sofar it's pretty nice, want to try to find the games that came with it NFS and the other one... I tried the XDA app but when I tried to click my profile in it it crashed
I recommand honeyvillian its the most stable from ever I hate the galaxy I do no how its fast as they say when I install it its so slow and the keyboard layout is really ugly... anyway its just me I guess... I love the honey villian

Yeah I tried the thrive all day, and I found it to be not that stable. A lot of times the gallery would hang, trying to use other players for video would all hang, and an annoying bug with hitting the power button and the device going off, and then back on. I am downloading honeyvillian now.
hi ..... has nobody here tried taboonay with thor kernel... opps i mean with the kernel from he who shall not be named... fast, responsive, great battery life, etc, etc, etc,
Here's my personal take.
Each ROM has it's strengths and weaknesses. Luckily, all of the following support 5MP camera and 2MP front-facing camera, so that's not an issue.
Note that the SD card slot will mount differently in each of the following ROMs.
Virtuous Picasso - Acer-based HC3.1, picasso-hc-kernel. Very close to stock, assume everything will work the way it's supposed to. Major downside (IMHO) -- WP7 fonts. Install Fontchanger and revert back to stock.
Virtuous Galaxy - Galaxy Tab base HC3.1, picasso-hc-kernel. Really snappy, very nice overall. Galaxy UI reminds me of Windows 95; I'm not a fan. Overall very pleasant to use.
Virtuous Xoom - Motorola base, HC3.2, picasso-hc-kernel. It's HC3.2, so it's brag-worthy. Many peripherals you'd assume would work just don't (from what I've read). Can't save directly to secondary SD in camera. Also, some issues with mounting USB (use a 3rd party mounting app from Market).
Virtuous Thrive - No idea.
Honeyvillain - No idea.
Taboonay - Vache is awesome. Basically a clean Acer ROM. Never used it due to since-resolved kernel issues.
My personal ethic is "don't use a ROM that uses a kernel where the source is not available". As Vache says, "using kernel without sources is warez". Basically, if a ROM includes a kernel where the author won't release sources (or patches), it's not even worth messing with.
I also don't like when a ROM author sets the default clock to 1.2GHz. Default OC assumes a lot of things (like the ambient temperature of the environment of the user) -- which is "not cool" (pun intended).
If you want just "a good experience" -- root your A500, install SetCPU (google for a recent apk) and set the scheduler to Interactive, 1000MHz. If you're just hurting for 3.1 (from what I understand 3.1 for A500 is end of July), there's a stock 3.1 updater from Vache available.
I would recommend IconiaRoot (google it) and Acer Recovery installer (from Market). If you have the means, buy a license for Titanium Backup -- it will save you a ton of time switching between ROMs.
MAKE SURE YOU ALWAYS MAKE A FULL BACKUP USING CLOCKWORKMOD.
What do I use? Virtuous Xoom.
Why? It's HC3.2 and it works for me. I don't use external peripherals and don't plan to.
tl;dr -- make backups. experiment. there is no "best"/silver-bullet for everyone. don't mess with ROMs that use no-source kernels.
I am trying out the xoom rom now, so far it is my favorite one that I have tried.

Does your 3G connection persist when screen turns off ??
Because mine doesnt, and i have to rr ril-daemon with the RilRestarter apk to get connected again. This does not happen with galaxy ROM, 3G remains connected when screen turns off.
Beside this issue i agree that honey Villain is the most reliable ROM atm.
no problem with screen off, i'm using latest thor kernel.

I9100XXKP1 - Wiimote ICS samsung working

Just for people who are interested in playing emulator games with there wiimote,
I can confirm that the wiimote can be used with the samsung leaked ICS rom.
this means that the bluetooth stack has been modified and now successfully can
connect with the Stock Samsung Rom
I've been using cyanogenmod mostly because of the wiimote bluetooth connection problem with the gingerbread stock rom from samsung.
Because the MHL TV-out cable isn't working (yet) with cyanogen so I would like to return stock rom so I can play games on my tv.. seems ICS would be ready for it
Cyanogenmod is a great piece of work (lost of tweaking options) so if CM9 would support Tv-out I'll go for cyanogen.
Nice find! Let's hope this is the case for the final build!
wait a minute! Does that mean that I will have MHL and wiimote support BOTH when I upgrade to ICS??? Oh tell me I'm right!:-O Has anyone tried ICS on SGS2 yet to confirn that both MHL and wiimote are working? any videos?
Use a wiimote with a GS2 hum....
Why not ? lol

New tranformer owner :D:D:D

traded my galaxy tab 3g/wifi 7inch 16gb + top of $100 for the transformer 16gb wifi only!!! worth it?
flashed revolver and i'm very happy with it. there are 600 over pages to go through.. and i only went through like the first 10 pages so far lol. so would appreciate it if someone could do a summary of the tweaks i can do with revolver. thanks.. i know about the revolver parts so we can skip that..

Well, have either of you overclocked? It does make a huge difference.
Flash any of the kernels from Revolver parts, I suggest Blade 1.2ghz or Prime OC. And then you can use SetCPU or any other method you have read about, such as Daemon OC from the kernel page of Revolver parts.

i kay_kat88!i remember you in the gt-p1000 section when i had that device...good to see you here!
i write you 2 things....
with revolver rom you can tweak and adjust your rom with mods and addons simply downloading from market revolver parts apk.(gnufabio has a donate, free and elite version of this..)
to have it working you must have:
root e cwm
microsd inserted
wifi and not 3g enable....
with this app you can also install kernels, update and very important do ota's when ready.
to overclock your tablet you can simply install a oc\uv kernel likes blade's,clemsyn's or prime's....or download the daemon controller from kernel tab in revolver parts to have the daemon oc (if you don's know what is that, read and look for on google)
on revolver rom you can also have 3g working if you want to use a web stick attacched in dock's usb connector....you must flash 3g revolver plugin from revolver parts and read 3ad here in general or q\a section(kasimodo 3ad says that in a optimal method)
hope this helps a little....
happy new years to you all folks!

I'm pretty pleased with the smoothness in the browser but it may be that the S2 is smoother (although its scrolling behavior is a little different in general), because it is a phone has a far lower resolution, it is running Android 2.3 it has Samsung's superb 1.2GHz Exynos dual core chip (possibly even better then Tegra2) plus Samsung's great hardware acceleration.
But also the Transformer should become a bit smoother with the coming Ice cream sandwich update.
