Big news for any minecraft fans out there.... Mojang has released Minecraft Pocket Edition for the Xperia Play! Hopefully it will eventually be released for other phones.
This thread is meant to be discussion of the game and hopefully some development making it be usable for people other than Play users. I have linked the demo (free) version which is installable on any gingerbread phone in the hopes that someone with more knowledge than me can mess with it, if only for fun while we wait for official touchscreen support.
http://db.tt/Pr9SX2b
If this is warez remove the link or let me know, I assume it isn't since it is the free version.
I'd say this isn't warez as there is a Buy button within the game. It also says it's a demo version when you try to select other blocks. Unfortunately without getting into the actual code there wont be a way to get any touchscreen controls going. Only thing I can think of is using some sort of Bluetooth keyboard and duplicating the same inputs an Xperia play would send.
Yeah that might be possible... we'd have to probably get somebody with an xperia play to send some info to figure out what we need to duplicate.
I'm gonna see if I can get it going with a PS3 controller.
*edit* After a quick test, the PS3 controller works. I'm gonna have to figure out some configurations, as I can only move forward, back, strafe left and right, but not turn left or right, or press the attack button or whatever it's called. I can jump, though, but it's mapped to start, lol!

awesome, thanks for the input! I will definitely play with that then... wonder how it would react to a wiimote if that would work.

After looking at a tutorial video for the pocket edition, looks like the place block, remove block, hotbar left and right buttons are missing, along with not being able to turn. Is there any chance anyone know what input the Xperia Play uses, so that maybe we can mock that in the PS3 controller key mappings?
Sweet thanks for posting this, this is partially playable on the evo shift, I can move around, change currently help object with the back button, switch 1st and 3rd person with the search button, and move with the control pad.
I can't look up or down, the world only generates so far, and I can't turn any direction, but still very good progress, very fun novelty for now. Can't wait to see updates to this.
semi works on thunderbolt, seems to be mainly an issue of mapping conrtol buttons as with the ps3 controler start is center d-pad the stick and d-pad map to dpad so if we figure out what the plays buttons map to we can work on remaping the ps3 controlers buttons
Great, so the shift keyboard works for some things... I will be testing with a Droid and a Droid 2, along with some video game controllers.

I believe we shouldn't have a problem mapping out the controls for the PS3 controller. =D
*edit* Tried to move around some input mapping, but none of the said mappings from the Sony website are selectable.

that's odd. well I wonder if there is any sort of thing like Xpadder for android, to emulate a gamepad type thing. I tried some different gamepad apps but none of them would work for me.

Mind sharing what input mappings you used for each button?
for though's wondering the demo version force closes on my acer iconia a500 running xoom based firmware 3.2 and the screen alignment is off on qhd screens (touch alignment appears to be off even more. nothing matches up with the picture.). just like the stock 3d launcher.
i have been working on the same things since this was released. i have a ps3 controller and a moto droid. i will test when i get a chance.
if you guys want me to test any ideas this is the hardware i have on hand. let me know

this is awesome!
Xperia Play users should contact them to gain support for this device as it already has MSM8255 chipset (same as many devices already supported) and it has awesome gaming controls inbuilt!!
After seeing this post I went straight to the market and downloaded the onlive app. I managed to load up Batman Arkham City but couldn't get any further than the start of the game as you have to "right-click" to counter attack.
I've emailed OnLive asking if they can add support for the Xperia Play gamepad. If everyone does the same then they might add Xperia Play controls in the future.
could someone upload market link because i can't find it in the market. Europe version.
I emailed them too.
Also if you are going to email them dont demand they they add xperia play support just request it, thats what I did.
I just messaged them using www[dot]onlive[dot]com[slash]corporate[slash]contact
Unless there is a direct email we can use, we should start showing our interest in Xperia Play controls by contacting them via this!
can some one please upload apk i can't download it from market it isn't avaible in europe.
For me it's running wifi-only (Verizon's 3G isn't enough to complete their network test) and works well with on-screen buttons... If they would just enable key-mapping it would be all good...

I haven't had a chance to try it myself, but there is an app called game keyboard that let's you remap keys to the xperia play buttons (in addition to its onscreen keyboard). In addition there is button remapper which lets you remap the O button to something other than the back button key since that one often interferes. Might be worth a shot to try.

To right-click on a tablet:
1. Touch the device with your first finger
2. Tap with your second finger to complete the right-click action

I was VERY upset when I found that out... OnLive literally takes down my cable, internet and phone after playing for a bit using Wifi on any device, plus, my school permanently blocked their servers when students started using it (GaiKai still works thankfully).
I'm hoping OnLive Inc. will work on Verizon 3G optimization, but in the meantime, I'll be looking around on how to keep OnLive from taking down my entire network.
EDIT: Okay, so OnLive and an Xbox 360 both can't be online at once apparently... Lame. I would love to have Verizon 3G going on this. YouTube (HQ) and the browser seem just fine on 3G. But I also live in a village in the middle of a cornfield so that might also be the problem.
The smartphone universe has reached the max level.
Although this seems to be the best news for XPlay, I must also say that from this point on, the tablets can surpass laptops.
Awesome stuff
When i try to launch a game it just says "Your device doesn't support games bla bla bla"

i also "requested" that they support the play, here's hoping with enough requests they decide to do it
i have to admit that i sold my play for a sensation because of sense and the games available weren't what i was looking for but if we get onlive support and a GTA3 port i will jump back in

And second did any one tried to connect any normal joystick (via bluetooth or via USB)

or any other on ebay....
does anyone has some ideas?
Been looking into this myself
Gonna see if I can find the Fling Mini ( Sorry still a n00b can't post links yet ) for cheap, but if not looks like there's lots of stuff on ebay apart from the links delacius put up earlier.
Will let you know how I get on.
-Update-
There's also these things called Thumbies, which are little plastic suckers with either a D-pad affixed to the top or individual buttons. Have only seen it demoed on tiny screened iphones where they look like they are pretty obstructive to game play, but they might be better on the Note. Most things are.
I'm not trying to be rude, but there's a correct section for a thread like this...
I'd like to salute the Original_Ganjaman for his hard work in keeping GNote forum in order. Keep up the good work.

The best and only option for me
Sent from my overclocked desire z (tmobile g2) via tapatalk app
Brought a unbranded sixaxis controller, it started to worry me because it didn't affect my nexus 7 while connected via usb on the stock rom.
And then I rooted to paranoid android and its still the same.
Thought that it might work via bluetooth so I used the sixaxis pair tool and changed the bluetooth address and it wont pair, then i used usb cable to pair controller on the sixaxis app and it said "master address updated" but it doesnt pair and the lights keep on flashing on the controller.
Please help!! I want to play games >:|
Buy the branded controller. It's expensive, but will last a lifetime if you don't drop it too much.

When you download the Sixaxis app from the Play Store it warns you about it not working with unofficial controllers.
Try plugging controller into your ps3. That might reset the master address.

That's the chance you take buying an unofficial controller. It MIGHT work. Yours does not work. You should be able to still use it wired, though.

You've got the USB OTG adapter and it plugged in using a game that supports gamepads? Have you tried using https://play.google.com/store/apps/...51bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5wb2tlNjQ3MzgudXNiam95Il0. ?
Most likely has to do with a different product/vendor ID on the controller itself. I have no idea how the sixaxis app recognizes official controllers; but if it does it via vendor/product ID check, in theory, adding your ID to the list should work.
Going about doing this though, I have no idea.

Yeah and I thought that at least it would work with another app once rooted like the USB/BT joystick app. Especially as there's people using all sorts of random controllers with their nexus 7's.
Have you not been able to get it to work at all?
No I haven't gotten it to work with anything. I sent a few emails to the guys behind USB/BT Joystick Center 6 (Poke64738) and they basically told me that they wouldn't be able to get it working w/o the actual device to tinker with.
I ended up getting an iControlPad. It works really good, but the D-Pad is just glued on to the silicon membrane. Which means that it will fall off eventually.
This is what my D-Pad looks like after gluing it back on about 6 times -_- (before I scrapped the glue off) You can notice that there isn't any rim to hold it in like the second picture. with the regular buttons.
These are old pictures I used to make a support ticket on there site. They ended up sending me a new membrane with a D-Pad glued down already for free. So I can vouch for there customer service, not there build quality... I have three A buttons on one controller. XD?
The iControlPad 2 looks like it's got the same setup as well, really a shame.

like i was saying i skipped that app entirely, everything works except for touch emulation.... it must be something with the phone itself because i tested out another emulation app called USB/BT Joystick and after mapping the touch keys it did not respond at all
it appears that the ps3 controller works for apps built in with some type of support but we cannot emulate the touch commands
maybe someone in the international threads can shed some light on this matter

only problem im running into with this controller is touch emulation
Sixaxis Controller app has just been updated.

sticks
I've been using the sixaxis with my note 3 for about a week now...it's amazing in MC4...I initially got it though for Sky Gamblers Air supremacy...having trouble with the right stick, there is a dead spot in the middle and when moving past that it moves too fast to accurately aim. I'm pretty handy with a few coding languages, though linux/java are certainly not in my toolbox. how hard would it be to insert a parabolic response without a dead spot into the stick's input...slow movement on the inside and fast on the outside? seems like it would be a simple math function...though I have no idea where to begin. input would simply need to be run through a math function before being output, no? I can crunch the numbers if I know what I'm dealing with to start...not sure what max range is, or what the controller is capable of registering...parabolic function would make aiming MUCH easier. not sure if it's a limitation of the hardware, or if it's just something nobody thought of....but in SGAS the right stick is taking control of what would normally be the accelerometer so it's a bit touchy...perhaps I can better show with drawing...forgive TOTAL lack of scale...but this simple sketch might explain.
edit: some amount of customization of the curve would be ideal...perhaps on a sliding scale...but it would still allow access to max range (important for sharpe turns/maneuvering) while being smooth on the inside (for aiming/tracking moving targets) if there is someone competent enough here to edit the code, I'd be glad to help with the math behind calculating the curves
For everyone who wants another way to control their ouya, I recommend giving Droidmote a try! Play Store is going to be required I think because it is a paid app. I got this app for my mk802, originally. And I am happy to say it works well on the ouya now too. it has mouse pad, standard android controls(back, home, menu), keyboard, d-pad, and also media controls like pause/skip/volume. It really does it all!
Try it out and share what you think, or if someone has a better solution let's hear it.
