I was rather suggesting that samsung software over all is dodgy, they always pack great hardware to a good price but never spend enough time getting it to run smooth, it's been true to all my samsung devices, blueray suround, tv, omnia 2, etc.. Would love to se some progress there

Yeah, CM is the base for most custom ROMs nowadays for many devices
and has really taken Android to a new level!
It doesn't surprise me that Samsung embraced the CM community.
Not underestimating anyone's work, and I am not even speaking specifically for X10 community,
but it's one thing to tweak an already fully functional ROM to improve it
and another thing to use AOSP sources and compile a whole new firmware, like Cyanogen does.

Well, i'm currently good for this as well, but look at it, the only devs that people know for vibrants are: Eugene, Master, TW thats pretty much it i think?
TW is probably a bunch of people, master, he seems to be working alone currently, and Eugene is probably working with barak or something.

If I'm not mistaken that 10 million number is the whole Galaxy S line. 3 of the phones in that line have had very little, if any, in the way of leaked software thereby putting the need for anything new at a stand still. The majority of the 10 million sold have been I9000 which has seen plenty of development. As for the Vibrant I count 4 active Dev teams that are major players here, Eugene, Team Whiskey, Master, Heathen. Then you have a couple others releasing random items. To my recollection there has been a new rom or update to existing roms every single week. I'm not sure what else you would want maybe a new rom to flash daily? One of those devs has stop posting here but those that like his work have given us all the updated info. All of the Devs with the exception of Heathen have slowed down a bit for various reason known only to them but I'd speculate 3 possible reasons. 1. Holidays man people want to relax a little. 2. Nothing new to work with in a few weeks and the last 3 or 4 leaks have just been tweaks to 2.2. And finally C. with 2.3 on the horizon I'm sure some of the devs are busy finding a way to bring us all a stable/working version.
Hope this clears everything up for you.

Not exactly true. I mean I understand the sentiment. But it only goes up to a point. I thoroughly expect either an official 2.3 release sometime this year, or at least a stable 2.3 port from the Nexus considering it's pretty much the same exact phone. But after that, I'm not expecting much considering the handset with be EOL by then.
I was a former G1 owner, and I think it was great that we were able to get an official build of 1.6, and even though CM worked pretty well on it (at least the Eclair versions), you can't really expect that it would run Froyo well.
Bottom line, I think if every handset was updated within the first 1.5 years of it's life, people would be satisfied and there would be a lot less frustration about lack of support with Android in general.
Due to the overwhelming support for such a project to be undertaken I thought it would be a good idea to set up a think tank and get some valuable info from devs on this process. There are many people willing to support this process with cash, I do not want any fiscal rewards but it may be there for devs that do.
Please no flaming, just constructive comments on where to start with this

My thanks to apreichner and I wish you all the luck possible, and im sure there is quite a lot of other people in the community rooting for you too

Wouldn't it be illegal to port the customizations made by Samsung and HTC? Just a thought as to why this may not be getting any attention.
If I recall correctly, there was even a widget developer that was asked by HTC to stop distributing a Sense-based theme.

Technically porting android would not be illegal, but sense is not open source so porting that for fiscal purposes could be seen as stealing.
Mate I wished I could port and code, all my experience is in networking and programing Cisco routers;( I would love to give this a go, but even experienced coders failed to port sense to the vibrant, it makes me fear the worst, and is also making me consider selling the NS and buying the Evo 3D when it arrives in Europe Just miss the diversity of a HTC phone

This is a great move on Samsung's part. Can't wait to own a Galaxy S II, or the one after, if my Vibrant continues doing an admirable job.
Jesus christ, they gave him a phone to develop CM7 on?

Hmmmmm... Can they not get GB to work right on it either? They should just put him on the payroll.
That's freakin' sweet. Guess they do care about fans...in a way.
Now leak Gb so us Vibrant users can have a fully functional CM7.

I have casually tried both iPhone 4 and iPads and never received the impression that they were better spec-ed than the latest Android or even Windows equivalents. Now that Apple is at war with basically anyone who isn't them in tech world, I think they will consistently lose any raw horsepower race (Samsung may not want to sell to them anymore for one). Maybe they will retain an edge in usability for some people, but they are the design kings, as long as you don't despise iTunes like I do, and price gouging.
I'm jumping with my wife. I started on AT&T and iPhone then moved to sprint because cost of the plan. I've seen both sides and so far you can't beat the stability and battery if your willing to drink Steves koolaid!
Looks like I finally made up my mind about what my next phone is going to be. Iphone 5 is it. I was gonna get the Epic Touch but quickly remembered the fact that my phone is on 2.2.1 in an era where Android is at 2.3.6, and how frustrating the Gingerbread leaks have been so far. Not to forget the fact that Samsung doesn't even have the courtesy to share their source code or drivers so that we can create our own up to date roms. I'm never dealing with Samsung again. As opposed to how up to date Apple keeps their phones. With Apple you don't even have to worry about late updates. Ios frees you from that hassle. You have great, fast, stable, low latency audio software, and you can jailbreak your phone and customize it as much as Android in terms of appearance and functionality. Plus you have much more games and apps. Can't lose.

But that's exactly the thing, my dear Nexus, we cannot get along. I wish too that we could, but with Apple, that's just never going to happen. I personally don't mind that they take stuff from Android, it's open source after all and free for the taking, but the way Apples takes it is just blatantly rude. They not only take it, but they also claim they invented it and were overly innovative and are also willing to go to court with whoever originally made it.
They have the USPTO on their pay roll and the fact that it's an American company, means the US will favor them over any other company.
As proven by the numerous law suits they are currently involved in against any competitors. Pretty soon they will have copyrighted and patented all the Android features they have just stolen and will be busy filing claims against half the world.
