I am looking for a keyboard for the nook STR that has both the letters and numbers on it, either like a normal keyboard or a number pad on the side. we are doing data entry and switching back and forth between letters and the numbers/special characters all the time is annoying.
I've not had much luck searching the android market for one like that, having only found the Hackers Keyboard, and being unable to install it.
I've started using the Go Keyboard. If you long press the appropiate letter you can use the number instead.

we're looking for something where the numbers are just there. There is lots of data being put into spreadsheets, and having any extra clicks or having to hold down a key when entering lots of numbers really slows down workflow. But thank you for the suggestion
How did you get the Go Keyboard installed and activated? Seems you have to install the apk in the system folder, and I tried but wouldn't let me (big noobe I know) :-(
astro file manager isn't enough. You need a file manager that will allow you access to root directories. I used ES File Explorer from the android market https://market.android.com/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop. Once you install it go to the settings menu and:
1. Scroll down to Root Settings and enable Root Explorer and Mount File System.
Not sure if this next step was needed but I did it anyway
2. Once again from the setting menu click on File Settings and enable "Show Hidden Files"
then copy the file from your data\app folder to your system\app folder

How to select more than 1 file in file exprorer?
I have never had problems on my previous windows mobile phone, but with HD2 I am too stupid to figure it out how to make selection of multuple files...
No it's not just you. You can select multiple files as long as there is no scrolling in the window. As for selecting if you need to scroll i dont know. You can use total commander as this has a Ctrl key option so you can pick multiple files
You can select multiple files with the windows explorer using the SWYPE keyboard.
Click the SYM button three times
Use the UP and DOWN arrows to navigate to the files you want
Press the Select Text button
Use the UP and DOWN arrows to select multiple files
Only problem is that the files have to be next to each other.
its easy with resco explorer :/ maybe go try that one?^^ amazing explorer anyway
Sorry...As a former Symbian user (and Mac user) I am not so familiar with Windows Mobile file management.
How can I organize my apps into the folders I have in my "Start" menu?
Whenever I install something, it just dumps it there. I assume there must be a way to do it, but I cannot figure it out.
Thanks.
(Hoping it is not a registry tweak...why is nothing simple on Windows?)
try going through file manager and creating a new fodlers and move apps to that?
as above answer, but don't try moving anything pre installed because they will re appear when you soft reset.(I'm thinking particularly of the htc apps. there is a tweak to prevent it, but it can be surprising the first time you see it happen)
Sorry, but can I just move the apps to the pre-existing folders, say....
"Games"
or
"Internet," etc?
I want to just move them. How do I do that using the file manager?
I see a "Send..." option, but I am not sure what part of the file to send. IS that how I would 'move' something to a folder?

It's a bit of a pain with file manager as you can (usually) only do 1 file at a time. Long-hold a shortcut and select cut. Then go to the folder you want it in and do menu, edit, paste.
If you use something like Resco Explorer or Total Commander then you can do multiple files at a time.

from what i understand you just want to reorganize your start menu to look cleaner.
in the start menu you have shortcuts and folders. to access them you need to start file explorer and go to: my device > windows > start menu > programs. then just cut & paste
if you want, you can also make new folders - just tap on menu in file explorer.
some of the shortcuts/folders will reappear after reset. to prevent this you need to do a trick you can find under the "tips, tricks and reg tweaks" thread.
Thanks to all...got it...so far!

How can I get to my device > windows > start menu > programs?
If I just boot my HD2 and go to the Start menu... all I see is the list of programs that I wish to move. If I long press on them, it says, "move to top"
Click to collapse
Open file manager and navigate to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs then follow the instructions above to cut and paste the shortcuts.
I assume you'll want to create folders to put some shortcuts in, and you do that by going to menu and then new folder.
hi
I am sorry if this has been asked before (but I did search)
Is there any way to add suggest word(s) when typing in text, I have to type the same sentence over and over again every day and on my old phones/PDA this was not to bad as you could set the suggest word(s) to give you the next 4 works, I can't find this in the HD2 is there any way to add it
Thanks for any help
according to hint 19 in this thread:
19. Improve Suggested T9 Dictionary With Custom Words
The Leo has a very useful hidden application in the Windows directory. You need to unhide hidden system and Rom files in order to find it. Find the file "eT9MyWords.exe" in the Windows directory and add a shortcut to this file in your Windows/Start Menu folder.
When in the application, add the most common words you use when using the keypad such as names, locations, user names, email addresses and other words not common in the standard T9 dictionary. For example if you are based in London, UK you could add the following locations:
Leicester, Piccadilly, Tottenham, Soho, Charring, Euston, Trafalgar, Clapham,
and words such as BRB, DVD, coz, lol, xoxo, [email protected], ciao, etc.

I have read these tips and know about adding custom words.
What I want is for three to four words to come up to complete a sentence.
This has been in the input tap on old PDAs suggest word(s)
Hi
Is there no one Who can help with this?
Really with all the clever people on this site can no one help me
Please someone help me
Hi, i did a few tests and found...
et9mywords wont accept spaces, and although you can sneakily paste sentences into the input box, it wont save them, so that method is out.
Custom words are also found in HTCMDB.txt, and the good news is it works!
(See image)
The line 'this is a test' i hard coded into the file using my kitchen, then the 'this is a second test' i added as follows....
(I use resco explorer, i suspect the normal file manager wont do what is required, total commander probably will)
find /windows/HTCMDB.txt (it will be hidden, so show all files)
copy it to your sd card, and from there to your desktop.
(I tried editing it on the phone using windows mobile notepad, but it didnt work right)
On the PC, right click the file, properties, and untick 'read only', apply.
Open it and edit it as required.
Save it, and again right click, re apply 'read only'
Copy back to your sd card, and from teh phone use commander or resco to move it to /windows/
You will probably get a warning about rom files and what not, thats ok.
Reboot, and you should now be able to see your sentences.
PLease let me know how you get on.
EDIT - just for clarity, every entry inside HTCMDB.txt must be on its own line.
thanks for your help with this I have done as you posted and it works, it's a bit long winded but it works
thanks jason
I definitely don't like the ASUS touch keyboard that we all have by default in our tablets. Uninstalling this keyboard means lose the keymapping of the physical keyboard .
You don't need to follow this guide if you have a US keyboard, because if you uninstall the ASUS keyboard the physical one will acquire automatically the US layout.
If you live in another country and you don't want to write with the american layout, then this is the guide for you .
We are going to map the physical keyboard in order to function with the Android 3.x one.
- Requirements -
Eee Pad Transformer TF101 non US model
*** ROOT access ***
Root Explorer (or an equivalent app that let you modify system files)
- Step by step guide -
Remove the tablet from its dock (necessary to avoid FCs)
Change the default input method to "Android Keyboard" (Settings -> Language and input -> Current input method)
Open root explorer and navigate to the /system/usr/keychars folder
Mount the folder in R/W mode (you have to read "Mount R/O" to do this)
Rename (longpress -> Rename) the file "asusec.kcm" to "asusec.kcm.old" (without quotations)
Go back to the /system/usr folder and open the "xt9" and then the "keychars"
Copy the file "qwerty-xx_XX.kcm" that corresponds to your keyboard language (longpress -> Copy)
Go back to the /system/usr folder and reopen the "keychars"
Paste the file in this folder
Rename the file that you pasted to "asusec.kcm" (always without quotations)
Reboot the tablet
Enjoy!!!
Now if you want you can safely remove the ASUS keyboard:
Open Root Explorer and navigate to the /system/app folder
Remember to mount the folder as R/W
Find the file "XT9IME.apk" and rename it to "XT9IME.apk.old" (w/out quotations)
Don't mind the FCs the system shows and reboot the tablet
Reopen Root Explorer
Navigate to the /system/lib folder
Check the R/W mounting
Rename the file "libjni_xt9input.so" to "libjni_xt9input.so.old"
Rename the file "libjni_xt9kcm.so" to "libjni_xt9kcm.so.old"
Reboot
Enjoy your free-from-ASUS tablet
All the credits for this last guide go to sirmx, who in his post pointed out the files to rename.
Fantastic guide, works perfectly on Prime 1.7!

On the keyboard dock, there is a CTRL key on the left. Use this with the V, X and C key to paste, cut and copy.
You can use AnyCut to create custom app shortcuts using the search key.
Does anyone know if Ctrl+A will do select all? That's the fourth of the common cut, copy, paste shortcuts.

Once again, it works in a lot of apps, but not all.
Hello guys,
Does anyone know of a file manager app where you can hide unwanted folders ?
for example - when i open the app i find loads of folders created by apps i use i.e go book, go sms, zipper ,gameloft etc
Though these are necessary, i wouldnt wanna access these.I need my folder with songs or themes or roms etc and is tiring to see the extra folders. Hence the post. thanks in advance
ES file explorer (playstore)
Long press folder
select the more key at bottom right (three dots)
scroll to top of menu
you will find the hide option
Thanks
