Because I'm curious, I know some say that its currently in testing.
I found this site from the Motorola site:
https://motorola-global-android.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/62460
Which makes it look like 2.2 is coming verrrry soon.
yes, i can tell you not only is it in testing but most likely coming soon.
i have seen proof of it on phones.
Patience
Oh no rush at all! Just wanting clarification. Thanks guys!

does any one know, by the way, if the update is going to be released OTA or if its going to be a process like the update for the captivate and aria?
Edit: looks like the process is similar to that of the captivate and aria.

No its OTA. It goes out like all the other moto phones ota's.
the private moto forums have discussed it and it seems besides one girl having issues (unrelated to the update probably) everyone is saying it works good.
I dont know what they are watiing for, but surprisingly, the 2.2 rom is done and ready to ship. Probably waiting fot att confirmation.
Guess we get a carrier text when it is about to come out?

Sweet. That is excellent news.
Uh oh
Will it still upgrade to 2.2 if I have removed the AT&T branded crapware?
What application/service do I need to unblock in droidwall for it to come down?
Did you totally remove the crapware?? I used Bloat Freezer on the ATT bloatware and unfroze everything before updating. No problems.
Yes. This was before I read that you had to keep it. Removed without backup with Titanium right after I had rooted. Would a factory reset put it back? I'd like to not have to exchange the phone at a store, but not having Froyo is kind of a killer. I mean, FPSE isn't even compatible with eclair
What i'm hoping for is that motorola will put it on the update map soon so that we have a rough date. As for apps.. if anything couldn't we get the files off one of our bravos if factory reset doesn't work?

I just saw on the motorola website forum that they were looking for 1000 people to do final testing prior to roolout. Deadline to register just ended. Wish I would have found it sooner.

This is my first motorola android phone. How long does it typically take after they release the final build of a sw version for them to officially release to the general public? Also, has anyone who has gotten the update, uploaded it anywhere for others to download or is that even possible with this type of release? Thanks.
Just got an email from motorola and it seems they are beta testing a new firmware. It didnt say when it would be released or what was included but last time i got the email the firmware rolled out that day. Maybe this is the hsupa update were waiting for. Maybe motorola actually gets to finalize code before firmwares are released. It would make sense since all bloatware can be uninstalled so easily where as when i had my captivate att forced u to delete bloatware. Just an idea. In the end that would mean faster updates since were waiting on moto and not att.ive had this phone for 2 months and i have had as many updates as i got with the captivate which i had for 9 months

I just got this bout 45 mins ago.
Got this as well.
Well whoever gets this first make sure you post results. I hope the upgrade to gingerbread comes out as quickly. It sucks having a locked bootloader but at least there addressing some of the issues. Who knows maybe we will get an unlocked bootloader. But for now I'll be happy with the root privilege and gingerbread. Now motorola would be smart to release it since the only phones that offer gingerbread are the nexus phones

Don't hold your breath xD I guess this might be the HSUPA update.
Hopefully it is the real deal.
Only thing I'm wondering if this is just a HSUPA update, or if there's more included. Hopefully they don't break root again.
Just received my email as well, I was about to start a topic, but I guess I wasn't the first one to receive it
Personally, I think I will say no to beta testing, as I enjoy running GreyBlur/GingerBlur and having root access much more than running their bloated updates.
Of course, if this beta update gives some Gingerbread lovin', I may change my tune...after all, we've always got the older SBF's to fall back on!
I doubt that this will only be an HSUPA update. AT&T is also going to be enabling sideloading due to the Amazon problem. I sure hope it includes fixes for the Audio issues too.

"Breaking root" is on the to-do list of every official OTA update, unfortunately, so you can count on that.

As am I. I just wish they'd give out the release notes ASAP.
Because if this is HSUPA, I'll be glad.
If it were HSUPA + Gingerbread, I'd be ecstatic. Motoblur or not, considering the Blur that Droid X owners now have.
Recieved my e-mail, too. While i kinda doubt it'd be Gingerbread (although i wouldn't complain for a second if it were), i'm still kinda keeping my hopes up that if it IS the HSUPA update, and AT&T really DID want to test HSUPA on the 4G phones to see if their network could handle it prior to enabling it on everyone's phone... that they were the ones who kinda forced Moto's hand in keeping the bootloader locked. I know it's like wishing your Prius would turn into a Tesla.... but that's my feeling and i'm momentarily sticking to it.
are most of you guys going to sign up for it?

I signed up also.
Honestly, I highly doubt AT&T ever intended on giving us HSUPA. I think they were hoping they could just put us all off until HSPA+ was available in all areas and reserve HSUPA for Iphones. Not until we complained (like mad) did they even start to look at the issue. The press that we gave them made them give it to us also.
As you've probably seen, the2dCour has a very tasty morsel of what's to come for us all. He's one of the many great people in #moto-atrix, including Jug6, Edgan, Sogarth, unknown, Brandon15811, and helpful friends, Pauly, dasmoover, cranch, YellowGTO and more, who have been helping me poke at the Atrix for many weeks. Also, if I know anything at all (I don't) it's thanks to [mbm] and Skrilax and xvilka and the others who implemented the hard work of 2nd init and kexec and beat their head against Motorola's signature chain on the previous generation of phones.
But our biggest thanks go to Motorola. A very friendly 'community-minded engineer' at Motorola posted an interesting message in hex on their support forums yesterday. Turns out, maybe it's no joke after all.
This got me to thinking. I was already looking through some of the ascii / hex of the bootloaders. Search for VOID and you'll find something completely new in the HKTW (Hong Kong / Taiwan) build, which is not in the CGs for any prior Atrix bootloader:
Code:
$ strings CG42.img | grep INFO
...
INFOUnlocking your device can permanently VOID your warranty.
INFOThis process cannot be reversed. If you wish to proceed,
INFOreissue the unlock OEM command containing the unique ID
INFOof your device:
On Edgan's engineering phone, the HKTW build enables a command you may all be familiar with:
fastboot oem unlock
It looks as if it asks you to issue the command twice, after giving you a unique ID (based on your phone) you must enter in. Surrounding parts of the CG suggest this will wipe your userdata much like a "fastboot -w" currently does. Our hypothesis about the fuses may also be backwards, and it is unlocking which burns a fuse, thus making this an operation which "cannot be reversed."
So, I think we can all look forward to Gingerbread's release for many reasons!!!
PS. Beyond voiding the warranty, or access to support, such an operation could potentially make your phone ineligible for OTAs, future retail .sbfs, etc... and we do not yet know which carriers will get it. So don't get TOO excited
PPS. If this is headed to the official release, I'd like to give a HUGE thanks to Irwin Proud and all the others who petitioned Motorola to make this happen!
But there's no time to rest. Now we must pressure all the carriers!
Confirmed working for AT&T users!! Eval emailed me the good news this morning, so we tried it on leaked GB for the Atrix 4G on AT&T.
http://briefmobile.com/exclusive-atrix-4g-bootloader-unlocked-with-android-2-3-update
I tested it out on my Gingerbread beta builds.
This is excellent news everyone.
Be patient, we need to see if this update hits all our devices, but when it does, I guarantee there will be no shortage of Roms and Mods that will come as a result.
I actually think Motorola may see a spike in sales when 2.3.3 hits their Atrix phones.
Thank you everyone who showed your support for the Unlock Motorola campaign and went out of their way to make their voices heard. Together we stand and together we claim victory.
Thank you Motorola.

P.S. the2d is a troll..but a damn good one.
Has this been actually verified, (is there a way to verify on an engineering phone?), as unlocking a bootloader, or is this at the moment still speculation as to what might be possible after the GB update?
Could this just be Moto laying the groundwork for a future update which unlocks the bootloader without us having to do it ourselves voiding warranties, etc?

ICS just around the corner and GB is STILL not out!
Hopefully it will come with a new radio which can sort out my random battery drain problems.
Despite trying various radios, my battery seems to lose 3%+ per hour when sleeping so with very light use, a charge only lasts a little over 24 hours. I can only assume the problem is the radio as running Watchdog doesn't indicate that there are any rogue apps. I've tried recalibrating the battery to no end either.
As a matter of interest, which radio are other UK users trying at present? I'm currently on 1.77.30.

Exactly, ICS will be out for AT&T before we even get GB here in the UK. I reckon it could be a while yet as our respective service providers have to add all of their bloatware to it.

I haven't got a branded atrix so that shouldn't be a problem for me. But I don't know what I'm doing yet. Because if I restore my stock atrix I could potentially lose root and my unlocked bootloader. Meh the decision .....android is a God damn disease.....must have the new update!!!!! Lol

To be fair Orange dosent appear to have overly bloated it (for a change) Orange Wednesday and an account checker, however seeing as that is available on the market I cant see why it would be an issue, the only other thing I can see is the addition of AP's etc, but again that should all be automatic anyways.......
Orange always claim they need to test it with their network etc but I recon 2 or 3 weeks after it's released we ought to get it *he hopes*
i find it puzzling that the milestone 2 which is older than the atrix is getting the gb update at the same time. Great news for both of our communities. But time and time again...what the hell are Motorola doing with all there time???? lol
I put a question to Motorola via the facebooks, and they said the update will come out at the same time for orange / t-mobile branded phones as it does for unbranded phones.
Of course given the delays to date I suspect the mid-November date will slip, but we shall see
I've got a Tmobile UK Atrix which I've rooted , unlocked the bootloader etc....
Is it possible to get this phone back to a state where it can be upgraded or will I need to wait until somebody does their magic and creates a CWM image to flash?
I'm really unsure how this works as I've seen many warnings about NOT reverting to Froyo if running GB.
Has anyone tried this?
I'll believe it when see it -Moto talk a lot a Kak.
Roll on the Nexus & I can dump the Atrix

If it's a gingerbread rom flashed through recovery you should be fine. Its just the SBF file to be wary of. If you've flashed a gingerbread SBF don't flash a froyo SBF. or you will get a hard brick.

For sure you will loose Root access but you can get it again under Gingerbread.
Regarding the Bootloader I believe that it's a little bit different and I guess when you have unlocked it you can't go back!
If someone more confident can confirm?

FYI:
Retail update has been released today in the UK, and (if Motorola are to be believed) T-Mobile UK and Orange UK updates will be released within a week.
OTA servers are apparently running behind but updates can be updated using Motorola's Software Update software.

with luck Orange will have a working copy of "Your Orange" this time too....bloody thing tells me to update then I get "Package not signed" and their CS department are hopeless
Next week is better late than never I suppose
Orange UK update released via Motorola Software Update tool (v45.31.0)
I'm updating now..
Thanks for the heads up - I've just updated my sons Atrix & all went OK.
Seems to run fine on GB 2.3.4 although only tried for an hour or so as it's gone back in the box ready for Xmas

About three months ago I purchased Samsung Galaxy Note for its screen size mainly. Getting to that age it hurts looking at small screen for a long period of time. Unfortunately, I have been left without my Samsung Galaxy Note for a month because of the mess and very poor service I have received from my network provider. On the happy note, I'm collecting a brand new one today. So I have been using my Atrix heavily again in the past month.
I have now owned my Atrix for over a year now and I can say I have never been happy with the software side of Atrix. When I started using Samsung Note I even more realised how badly Atrix's ROM was cooked. I own the international version of Atrix and Motorola never released any updates after the GB firmware upgrade in the UK. I'm extremely furious I had to put up with Motorola's shortcomings and ignorance towards its international users.
I cannot simply throw away my Atrix as I still need the phone as Samsung Galaxy Note is too big to carry in my pocket. I rather carry Atrix in my pocket than Note but I prefer using Note for everything else and Note is a pleasure to use for both reading and writing. I love it.
I have never unlocked the bootloader for the warranty reason first and then I don't believe custom ROMs are that better when it comes to the reliability. What deeply bothers me is that Motorola will not allow I unlock the bootloader legally/officially even after my two year european warranty is over. Take my word for it I would unlock the BL after the warranty is over should I need to and wouldn't give a monkey to Google/Motorola about it.
Atrix would still be a good backup phone even for the entire 2013 so I am wishing Motorola would finally do the right/honorable thing by releasing a solid ROM, be it ICS or JB. There is a significant difference between GB and ICS when it comes to user-experience and that is why Atrix will shine with it.
As it stands, I would never give my money to the Motorola again even if they had the best phones on the market. Making promises to the new customers when you have not shown loyalty to your old customers only shows your business hasn't been changed. I would have believed Motorola when they gave international users a solid quarter release date for older devices when on stage trying to sell new handsets. What Motorola did to international Atrix users and other devices is not something I would forget that easily. I will always be there to tell my experience about you, Motorola.

All those people that had the latest official update installed which came with an unlockable bootloader.
Google owns Motorola but they are not getting any special treatment. They have to wait lie any other manufacturer.
Motorola unveils 3 new Razr phones : http://usat.ly/RLZI8u
Read towards the bottom.
"Woodside says Motorola is not getting favorable treatment from Google though it's now part of the Google family. "Motorola is treated the way every other (manufacturer) is treated," he said during an interview. The company receives the Android software code the same day that rival handset makers get it. And Google doesn't get any special exposure to Motorola engineers."
That being said, this thread's question is answered.

No! They got a LOCKED bootloader.
Unlockable = can be unlocked and unsigned firmware installed.
Locked = can NOT be unlocked, you can ONLY install official signed firmware from Motorola.
