[Q] Time for a change? Help me! - HD2 General

Alrighty so here is my situation...
My HD2 fell out of the car when i was getting out to get gas. It was in my lap and I forgot. Got out. Andd yeah it got a crack on it. This was about 2 weeks ago. It still worked fine and all, but then yesterday it just stopped responding to touch. So now all I can do is call the last person that called me. I cant unlock it, so i have to pull the battery to get it unlocked lol. Soo yeah, i went to T-mobile and they gave me the whole rundown of loaner phones and sending it off and 130 bucks. The problem with that is I might as well get a new phone.... So as much as I have loved tinkering and romming the hell out of my HD2, but before I pay for another one I would rather upgrade to the new hotness. This is where you guys come in. Here are my options.
Right now I'm on pay as you go since I hate contracts. Tmobile lady said that since I have been on a pay as you go for 53 months, I can transfer over to a 2 year and get an upgrade for me and the wife in the process... Pretty good deal. It would also save us almost 40 bucks a month since we would lose the processing fees and go into a different plan that offers more for less. So i like this idea, aside from the 2 years, but oh well. So which phone should I get?
What I would really like is a 7 inch dual core tablet phone. That would be the ultimate for me. Know of anything i could use my sim in that meets that? What do you think?
HTC Sensation?
G2x?
Dell Streak 7? (can this make calls yet?)
Wait for the Galaxy S II? (is that even coming to tmobile?)

Look on eBay or local listings.
Im in Shanghai and had my phone stolen from my bag (now im paranoid about where I put my phone).
I bought another hermes, used, with box and all, for 225$, that was over 6 months ago.
Bugga, my condolences....
Agree with alkizmo about ebay, in oz the jasjam seems to go for about $250aud which is better than the $900 or "sorry, we don't stock that anymore, wanna kaiser instead for $1400?".
Cheers...

iphone sux & is a ripoff fad...recent artical math:
Old iPhone: $399 (for 8GB of storage), plus $60 per month for 450 voice minutes and unlimited data. Two-year total (since you'll be signing a two-year deal for either handset): $1,839.
New iPhone: $199 (for 8GB of storage), plus $70 per month for a basic voice plan (presumably the same 450 minutes) and unlimited data. Two-year total: $1,879. http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/null/94465
$175 for a Tilt!!!!!! See, Australia is the Arse end of the world and they keep serving us crap....
Wouldn't want the Tilt though, Love my Hermes....
and its tough love for your hermes
Sorry to hear that man. I was out Sat night this past weekend and my phone just completely stopped booting. Took it in, tested the battery and all, but it was dead. Couldn't even get to a bootloader. I was out of the warranty, and still had 7 months left on the contract so I thought I was screwed, but AT&T let me just renew the contract and get a new phone. Wasn't dying to get a Tilt, but it's better than being stuck with a crap clamshell phone for 7 months....best of luck! If it's any consolation, I heard you can get software for the Kaiser phone that will send you a text with the GPS location of the phone if a different SIM card is inserted. God forbid the phone gets stolen, but imagine the joy when you get to call the cops with the coordinates of your phone (hopefully in the pocket of the thief).

Sell iPhone For Nexus

Ok so let me tell you my story. I had a iPhone it got stolen so i bought a g1 fell in love with android but missed iPhone so sold G1 and got iPhone again. Got tired of iPhone and bought G1 and now i have a iPhone 3G 16GB and a G1. I saw the Nexus One and fell in love. Now my question is should I sell my iPhone 3G 16GB for the Nexus. Is the Nexus that great? And how much could I sell this iPhone for on eBay? Please helppp
Wow, you do need help, and I thought I was bad.
personally, i'll be keeping my iphone and switching back and forth till the android market gets close to all the games i have on my iphone...
i have 8 pages of games (no apps, just games) on my iphone so i wont be getting rid of it, also i have a custom red backplate that i installed my self and ordered from hong kong
i also have a g1 but i dont use it cause of my iphone... just pick it up here and there
when you had your G1, did you like it? Essentially, what makes the nexus one better will be the snapdragon processor. it will make everything faster compare to the G1 or mytouch 3g. Yea android will not have as many games as the iphone. i'd say buy the nexus one, try it out. if you don't like it return it. go back to your iphone
Yea I do need help lol. Well I only use my iPhone for music. The apps got boring and i don't even play the games. I just use my psp or ds. I barely even touch my iPhone now I just use it as an alarm. The only reason I went back to the iPhone before was because 3.0 came out for it and I thought it would be awesome but it really wasn't. And plus I have the iPhone unlocked for T-mobile and could only use edge so it was pointless to have a iPhone 3g. Main reason I kept G1 was 3g and because I just fell in love with android. So to get to the point lol how much would you suggest sell the iPhone for?
dont listen to firedup hes probably just hating cause he cant get a nexus one. Its your money and your decision.
Nexus One = Slimmer G1 with bigger higher res screen, faster processor, more RAM, and latest Android OS. (oh and no hardware keyboard)
If that is what youre looking for in a phone, then you have every right to buy it with your own hard earned money.
why sell it, you are just going to buy another one
Keep the G1 and iPhone while buying an N1 and call it good.
Lol I'm selling the iPhone because I need the money for the Nexus.
i'm assuming since you're using the iphone on tmo then its unlock and jailbroken? hows the condition of the phone? if it still in good condition, i think people will still pay good money for your iphone. list it on ebay and let people bid on it. let it ride out. lol. good chance you can get anywhere from 300-400 for your iphone. Is it 3GS? Then you get even more

Whoah there, steady on! I've got a Nexus being delivered in the next 2 days! I was being serious, I need help as well. I've bought every HTC premium release since I can remember, plus a few others and iphones!
Its a 3g. Haha i put it on ebay for 425 and it sold in 5 minutes but it was a scam but i put on craigslist and got an offer of 220 and unlocked blackberry storm. i think i might try to get a 2yr for tmobile and get it cuz currently im on easy plus which isnt 2 yr
or you could flash a 2.1 rom have neXus_on3 with no live wallpaper.... lol
i'll tell you my story.
early nov i ordered an e71. then a little bit of dust accumulated under the screen so i swapped it for a new one a couple weeks later. then that one had a slight wobble in the battery door, and my original one had absolutely none. so i swapped that for another e71. then i saw a fleeting deal on ebay to purchase a nokia e72 at 20% off, and this was just a month after it's original release. so i jumped on that deal. now i have an e71 and an e72.
i'm returning both of them after i receive my nexus one tomorrow.
i figure i made out pretty good, to use two phones for practically 3 months at no cost whatsoever.
well i have a iphone 3g 16gb i bought for 350 a while ago and im currently trying to sell that and my modded banned xbox 360 for the nexus. I also have a g1 but wanna keep that for testing purposes. OMGGGG I want this so baddddd
I just sold my iphone 3g that was well used on craigslist for $350. Also put my mytouch up for $230 and have gotten several serious callers but i will prob just keep it. i cant wait to get my nexus tomorrow.
yea im thinking of selling my iphone for 220 and a storm but idk yet. im currently bidding on 3 nexus's hoping (actually praying lol) to win. I put max bid for each at 250 but i doubt ill get it. But im i can get 350 for my iphone and 100 for xbox ill find the rest and order straight from google lol
I ordered a Milestone and a N1 and don't know wether I want to keep both (I like them both and beginn to hate my Xperia X1, sometimes it's so sluggish)
Couldn't upgrade from my easy more plus for some reason. I was on a family plan with my sister and then did a change of responsibility and transferred my line to my own plan but technically i am still under contract til my sisters is over according to a T-mobile rep . But i may have hope the lady at the store told me that the 2 yr from my sister isn't over til August but she said i should still be eligible to upgrade to nexus and to keep trying because T-Mobile and Google are discussing problems people have been having with upgrading. But i read online that in the long run nexus + 2 yr is more expensive then nexus full price + easy more plus. So I'm gonna sell iphone on ebay

G1 stilll worth getting?

I'm considering jumping to T-Mobile here in a few days, as my Sprint contract is ending. A friend of mine is selling his G1 for pretty cheap in good condition. That combined with the Even More Plus plans sounds like a better deal than being stuck in a contract again for 2 years.
I know the phone is crazy old, but it still seems to have great support for roms and such. I have no problems with rooting and flashing at all.
Also, for the people who are with T-Mobile right now, if I start a Even More Plus plan right now, would I be able to "upgrade" to contracted phone down the road, which would prompt me to the more expensive plan, should I ever get a real itch for a Vibrant or things coming out later this year.
I just got mine today lol i love it
My other phone is a tilt 2 tho
Really no point. On CL in my city g1s are 60 used 120ish new. It still has awsome support but remember, its close to 2 years old.... With technology going at the pace its at, think of it like comparing a 2010 mustang against a very well maintained 1985 mustang. Its definately a usable phone and will make you pleased, but won't compare with the advancements in speed, fuel economy, safety, etc...
If you asked this question 7-8 months ago, I would have totally recomended it. Now, not so much.
P.S. download the APN on/off widget or APNdroid to turn off data, so you can qualify for cheaper talk/text only plans. Data is roughly $20-30 more expensive, plus your phone will be functional under wifi. Plus battery lasts longer
Sent from my T-Mobile G1 using XDA App
i would say the same as mej,
but totally.. now.. its not much worth. I would totally go for a nexus one if i had to buy a new phone
T-Mobile don't even sell G1s anymore, do they?
Anyways, if you're getting a contract, don't buy an old phone! Get a myTouch slide or wait for the Sidekick Twist.
I would just get the Vibrant right now, because I think if you come into your contract with a used G1 you can't get a new phone till you're up for an upgrade. Besides, the Vibrant(along with most of the other Galaxy S lineup) is top of the line right now. They are benchmarking higher video framerates than a EVO 4G. Plus it has 720p HD video recording, and HD video out so you can play back what you recorded on a hdtv. Also has a accelerometer and gyroscope, giving it a 6-axis g-sensor for epic gaming. Oh yeah, and it's the baddest phone T-Mo has right now, period.
I purchases my G1 2 months ago, best buy ever (paid 100 uk pound, around 130euro then, with 8GB microsd, ...).
Still no phone with a tilt keyboard yet (had a tilt, htc kaiser, much better then htc pro, but the G1 has a nicer touch screen (the tilt was also running android 2.1).
If your stuck on Tmobile, don't want to spend too much, and want a new phone before your contract ends, then go for it
Nowadays with a new contract you can get some pretty good phones for really cheap prices
I've had my G1 since I received it after preordering it. It's an EXCELLENT phone. However, it's age is showing. There are some things it simply cannot do and many things it cannot do well.
If you're going the as-cheap-as-I-can route in the short-term, a G1 may do the trick (And, if it were January of 2009, I'd say get the G1.). But, as it's been said before, if you're going to be locked into a 2 year contract, you'll really want to get hardware with enough power to last you those two years and not leave you wanting more.
Personally, if I were buying right now, it would either be a NexusOne or a Vibrant. Something with enough processing power and RAM for Android 2.2+
Good luck!
I got my G1 this past January... and while I don't regret it, there's no chance I'd buy this phone now. Every day I wish this thing had a Snapdragon in it. If you're really worried about contracts go with an unlocked phone for more money upfront - at least with T-Mobile, the plan will be cheaper, so it'll even out.
Again, the G1 is a great phone and I love the design/form factor, but for this day and age it's just not fast enough.
I don't believe you'll be able to take an Even More Plus plan and then go to an Even More plan right off the back, at least not with your same number...but, If you sign up for google Voice at the same time as getting the g1, give out that number to everyone as your new number, when you upgrade your to a contract(if you do), that GV number will still be the same and you'll just have to change the number under your GV settings.
Would I buy a G1 right now? If it was 0-50, maybe 75 with an 8 gig sd card. We've got 2.2 running on our phones now as a daily driver. it makes/receives calls, what more you need from a phone?

I do have one question... why not stay with Sprint? Their plans are competitively priced with T-Mobile, and they have excellent Android devices. The Epic 4G is due out soon, which should be an amazing phone by anyone's standards. And it will have a hardware keyboard, like the G1...
If price is the most important, don't go with T-Mobile. Get an unlocked T-Mobile phone and take it over to Simple Mobile at mysimplemobile.com. They use the same 3G bands as T-Mobile but you get unlimited talk, text, and internet for a flat $60/month.

Well I Just bought one to hold me off until the "Project Emerald" phone comes out. It's better than using a non android phone. I think that using it as a temporary phone it will do the job.
Still an awsome phone but :] mTS 2 for 1 lol
If you don't care about having a fast phone, go for it. I just went from g1 to vibrant, and the vibrant is everything I wanted the g1 to be. The g1 is gonna give you a taste of what android can do, so you may end up wanting something better.

Would you get a fascinate today?

Hi, i'm looking at getting a new phone for my wife and been looking at the fascinate from telus as it's on sale for $99 with 3 yr contract.
I heard that telus in the coming weeks will be launching a few new phones though i have no idea what they are or if they'll be any smart phones.
so with that said, if you were to get a phone today, would you still get the fascinate or would you hold off for a couple of weeks?
btw, apparently it comes with froyo so i'm thinking that update fixed some of the issues with gps and such... least i think it would
thanks
No. But, I am on Verizon.
Telus may be a different story.
Nope. I'd choose an HTC or a Motorola over the sammy if I had to do it all over again.
Yes ... but only because of the price I paid. ($50 / no activation)
-Doug
If I could, I'd wait for the dual core phones to come out. If I had to buy now, I'd still get the fascinate. My son has the Incredible, my father-in-law has the X, overall I like the fascinate better than either of those.
Absolutely. I still think it's best in class.
But i agree that if you could wait, wait for a dual core. But for now, there isn't anything the fascinate can't do.
If I had to do it over again, or if I needed a phone right now, yes, I would choose the Fascinate, no doubt about it. It really is a great phone. Not without its quirks and annoyances, but what phone is? If I didn't need a new phone really bad, then given the new powerhouses coming out within the next couple months, I would probably take some time to consider the options. I've never liked Motorola's designs until now, but I must admit that the Bionic looks very tempting. Of course, the locked bootloader crap might give me pause (let's hope they fix that like they claimed they will).
Once rooted and de-bloated, it's still the leader ATM. This will change in a couple of months though.

I got 2 for free and I still don't want them. No one on Craigslist wants them either because I've been trying to trade them for the past month.
thanks for all the responses. my wife doesn't really need a power house of a phone. she would just like to get a GPS app and a web browser with text abilities. it was this or an iphone so i think i might go grab it for her as i'm so against iphone .
though... scriz, i'm curious why you seem to hate the phone so much, least that's my impression
take care
If you're on the telus. That's different. So that's up to you.
3 year contract? F that. I like the phone, but I'm still counting down til my upgrade. (April 14th, fwiw) I'm on VZW, so grain of salt and all that, but there is ALWAYS a better phone coming out soon and 3 years seems crazy long to me.
But, right now there isn't a better phone on VZW.
Phone yes, three year contract No! I paid $0 @ Amazon with two years on Verizon.

What he said. No way would I lock into it for 3 years. It is a good phone and all, in fact, I would do the same thing again because the others in this class have problems too. But I bought mine used off of fleabay so I am not locked in. This is a tool for me to learn Android on. I have a very strong feeling that I will be wanting something new in about a year.
I bought this device planning on selling it and upgrading after about six months. Now I plan OJ keeping it for a while. Great even right out. Of the box. If this was for my wife I wouldn't rootbor anything - just stock update to dl09 and let it roll. If I were buying today I would absolutely buy this device. All phones have issues - this one is no different. Bur overall a fantatstic device. I am guessing your wife does not need duel core or it would be her on the nerd forum with us and not you. If you can get a good deal then go for it.

I've got the Vibrant from Bell (the sister phone) and I love it, great bang for the buck. Sure having a dual core phone would be cool but at what price and unless she is a complete power user what would she need the dual core for?
What sucks for us in Canada is the high cost of our monthly plans and the fact that we have to lock into the plans for 3 years.
the 3yr contract is pretty terrible, but the fascinate's an awesome phone, easily the best android out there. especially since telus has froyo

Wow, you Canada guys don't get any option other than 3-year contract? As in, you can't pay more for the phone and get a shorter term, or even pay full price for month to month? I've been doing 1-year contracts with Verizon, not because I plan on leaving, but because I don't want to be locked into the same phone for so long without any upgrade discounts. That allowed me to upgrade off the Eris to the Fascinate after 10 months. The Fascinate was made available for sale conveniently a day before I was eligible for upgrade with discount. That day of waiting was torture.
I'm on Verizon and I'd still buy it again even without the Froyo update. Most of the bad press on this phone has been because of the lack of Froyo. Don't get me wrong, I'd like to have it, but I had it on my old phone and it's not that big of a deal. The responsiveness of the phone and the beautiful samoled screen win out in the end. Besides, if you're on Telus, you'll have Froyo anyway.

Daaaaam Just picked up an i1900 for the wife and now I see this.

I need to keep up. Just picked up a used i9100 for the wife here on XDA last week. I could have given my i9100 to her and bought this. Now I want it and already we have 2 i9100s. I am hesitant to sell mine because it would make a great back up although it would go far to bring down the initial cost.
We are upgrade ready at ATT but I don't want a Carrier device and don't want to blow my upgrades on phones that won't bring a premium like we got with a couple of iPhone 3GS before they went to all the carriers.
Since we don't have LTE here and it's not expected until 2013 we are on the UL data dumb phone 3G+ plans. We use over 200MB but well under 2 GB a month so I did not want to pay $30 each for data. $10 each is great and offsets the cost of the devices as well.
That said the Dell streak failed but somehow I think the Note will be the device to have for those of us who want a bigger screen and a tablet but don't to carry around a bevy of technology.
Edit your Subject .. "i1900"
You are missing a lot by not getting the GNote,I also kept my HD2 for backup, but I'm afraid the battery will totally run out flat dead since its never been used for over six Weeks now.
My wife thinks my lifespan will be extended at least by couple of years after buying this gadget!!!.
