Question about Virtuous Unity 1.31 on MyTouch 4G - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Question: My keyboard keeps having dead spots, i have to wait a few seconds then it'll let me press the letter or number i wanted, is their a fix for this? Its getting me annoyed lol

This seems to be a problem with the phone itself.

I had the same problem with 1.31 using Swype, Swiftkey and HTC's keyboard. I downgraded to 1.29 and it worked fine. I am now running stock MT4G 2.3.4 rooted and it's running faster than Unity ever did for me and the keyboard is uber-responsive.
You can downgrade Unity from here: http://files.virtuousrom.com/unity/virtuous_unity-v1.29.0.zip

Does this mean we will lose root? I love all the options and features of root but it would be nice to have a solid froyo rom.

lol, I just nandroided back to CM6 this morning.
How do you guys think FroYo will run on the MT3G? I predict not well! I'm almost thinking I'd rather stay rooted on Donut or CM6 so I can at least overclock it.
Too bad I've got the 1.2.

CM6 = Froyo and it flys and works great. Why wouldn't the tmo froyo release run well? And what rom were you using that you had to nandroid to CM6? I'm confused by your post.

I predict we won't get the OTA update if we're rooted, and if we are it will most likely wipe out root access. I'm gonna need to reinstall that stupid amazonmp3 apk and unroot so I can get this stupid update.
If I don't like it I'm gonna SAPPIMG.nbh back to 1.5 so I can use flashrec to get amon_ra back and then nandroid back to 1.6.
Jebus, I feel like I'm speaking in tongues, lol.

most ROMs disable OTA updates.
and no way would I revert back to stock until it's confirmed that the official 2.2 doesn't somehow break root access.
Give the Devs until Thursday. and they will have the OTA with root to flash on our phones (if you want it). I, personally, won't go back to stock after tasting CM goodness!

No radio update needed, the nbh file will take care of all of that.
Just copy this to the root of your SD card, boot into the bootloader (vol down + power), hit apply update and let it do it's thing.
DON'T restore anything through TiBa or mybackup until AFTER you've received the ota update. Should take about a day or two of the phone being on and connected to 3G.

The MT3G just doesn't have enough ram to support an OS this large. CM6 is good but still way slower than oem 1.6 w/androot and overclock.
I rooted a few months back by using sappimg and flashrec, then installed CM5 with mediocre results. I got sick of the instability and unrooted. Then I rooted the stock 1.6 w/universal androot, overclocked it, and left it alone for a while.
A week or so ago I backed up my oem 1.6 w/root, then I flashed CM6. 3 or 4 days ago I backed up my CM6 and went back to my nandroid of oem1.6 w/root. This time I ditched CM due to crazy bad battery life and the phone running way hot. I suspected it would have done better with compcache disable but I got sick of screwing with it.
This morning I nandroided back to CM6 to screw around with it some more, (wanted to disable compcache and give it another shot) but just now I'm going back to the oem donut again because froyo is inherently slow on a phone with this little ram, although disabling compcache helped a bit. Also the gallery is too slow to use.
Does that make more sense? Basically I'm indecisive and keep switching back and forth, lol.

No, it appears that this is only available for users who have software version of 3.30.651.2
"Note: This update is only for newer devices with initial software version of 3.30.651.2. If you are running a different version than this, you will not receive this update and do not need it.
This update fixes power cycling issue when accessing the camera through some applications, like Qik, on devices running version 3.30.651.2 only."

Does it still have HBOOT 2.02?
I'll root it and post it when I get home from work in 4 hours.
if you're getting this update it sounds like you already have a newer evo that is a bit more difficult to root anyhow. unrevoked doesn't work on the phones that seem to be getting this update to begin with, i doubt it will break root any harder honestly.
i'm installing it, my phone reboots when running qik and i can't get root from unrevoked as it is.
i got notified by my evo today about the update, i chose against installing it too.
i installed 3.29 ota, rooted via unrevoked then used the update zip to get to 3.30 even though apparently we should not have been doing so.
update works great, qik now works, and the flashlight toggle on my toggles widget no longer reboots the phone either.
Same here tried update , Running clockwork and I have Azreal 2.41 running. After reboot Triangle.
Cold boot back and update failed.
Maybe someone would be so kind as to post this in a ZIP.
Thanks
Gin.

Swype beta was a trap!

I loved swype, it made everything so much easier. I always used a hacked version on my evo because it wasn't supported on it (now i see they have it with OTA update), so when i heard the beta was reopened again i was ecstatic. I thought "hey I can get an updated legit version of swype!" So i registered and set everything up, but when i get to trying to install it tells me "Your device already has swype through the OTA update!" Since I'm rooted and on a custom rom, I couldn't get the OTA update. So i just said whatever and uninstalled the swype installer and and reloaded my previous hacked swype.
Now when I try to use swype it says "Swype trial is over please download new version". Now mind you, i've been using my version of swype for months without any problems, but when i tried to install from the beta, its now detecting it and blocking from using it.
I went from loving swype to hating it more than anything else on my phone, including FC's

Uh... it's not that big a deal, calm down and get the APK.
It should only fc when you have the wrong version and it's not hard to get a new swype. Just ask the subscribers from my channel lol

Unless you haven't noticed, 2.4.44 doesn't work anymore on any phone. I noticed it this morning.
I'm in the same boat - I'm running MynWarm and the beta version expired last night around midnight for me. I downloaded the new beta installer and it said that Swype for Evo was included in the latest OTA - doesn't help me at all since I'm not running stock.
Does anyone have (or can they post) the APK that came with the latest OTA? I really need my swype back...
The version of Swype you are trying to install has expired all the hacked versions have an experation date along with the beta versions. You need to get the new APK with a later experation date or go to a rom based on the 3.70.
I found a working Swype for my Unrevoked 3 rooted Evo at Droidappz site.
Works just fine....Thank you. I'm welcome.
Soooo your complaining cause a hacked up version of Swype(warez) is giving you a hard time now that your trying to use the legal version? Maybe you should send that question to Swype and see if they could help you out lol.

Wow, how amazing the ignorance. First, a billion people complain that they can't get swype cause it's beta only.
Then Swype goes OFFICIALLY live on the Evo, and people start to complain about that.
For one, there are exactly three roms available at the moment that have the OTA update and Swype built in.
For two, don't complain that you can't get it cause you're rooted. There are always going to be pros and cons to rooting or not.
Get over yourself.

LOL, I tried the same thing and recieve the same error. Since I am part of the Beta testers I figured the new one that was released is newer than the one on 3.70 Roms. But since I could not get it to install even after removing it from the system/app dir I gave up and just using the one on the 3.70 rom.
The reason why y'all get taht error is because they are not going intsall the latest version of Swype for you when you have the option to get the latest version through the OTA. Just go back and push the latest version of Swype from the OTA and just wait for the next update.

That's a crappy situation and in this case I'm inclined to say just grab the Swype apk from the latest OTA ROM. You can just download the version posted on this forum, open up the zip and navigate to /system/apps (I think that's it) and grab it.

[Q] Stock G2 2.3.4, want to Root, what is the best way??

Title says it all...Finally thinking about rooting, but I dont know it its possible yet since I got the 2.3.4 update. Can someone point me in the right direction please? All the posts I found are kind of old.
Root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1206930 must have S-OFF before you update to 2.3.4 or you will have to downgrade to 2.2 turn S-OFF then patch again to 2.3.4 then root...
Damn, no other way huh? I don't feel like downgrading, guess I'll wait till there is another way...lol. Thanks for the response!

Well considering that there isn't even a reliable one-click root for the 2.2 release (and even farther from one-click for the European version) I'd highly doubt that you're going to see a one-click for the 2.3 release any time soon, if at all.
Just because you're new doesn't mean that downgrading isn't an option for you! Just do your research and follow the detailed guides and you'll be fine. It may take some time for you to build up some confidence to do it, but when its done you'll be glad you took the time to learn a lot about the device as you learned to root it the hard way.

i'm afraid there's no other way for now, you have to downgrade to older version which had root method already.
Not a temproot? I think I have seen a topic for temproot of G2, but no responses from anybody who has tried, so I don't want to be first to try.
I wish only to remove annoying ADS, all the rest is fine with 2.3.4.
Because you said that I might have to wait a long time to get one click solution I have decided to give it a try and root my phone:
firstly I have downgraded my software with this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
and than root it with this:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Vision
and than install Virtuous 2.0 ROM with Rom Manager
I had no problems and everything works nice now.
But still I would like to change some things on my phone and I hope someone could give me some directions how to do it.
1) firstly I would like to delete/hide stock battery icon from notification bar becazse I use ZDBox to monitor battery. I have found this tread on this forum but I am not shure if this method works for Desire Z with this ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=740502
Does prhaps anyone knows how to do that with Virtuous 2.0 ROM on Desire Z
2)secondly I would like to ask you which ROM do you suggest to try out.
I really like how MIUI ROM looks like and how much free RAM you get with this rom but as I was reading comments about it it seem that there is no landscape orientation in this ROM. Does this issue apply only for launcher or are systam apps like sms app or email app also only in portrait mode.
thanks for answers and ideas

1) you can use the uot kitchen to create a theme with whatever battery icon you like.
2) i would suggest cm7, by far the best rom in my opinion, fast and stable and always have the theme chooser to change it up. if your looking for a sense rom though i would go with the synergy port.

as stated before you will need to downgrade it. its pretty easy to do as long as you follow the guide

Upgradable to Android 2.3?

Long story short: finally updated myTouch 4G to Gingerbread 2.3 and loved it. However, USB Port is loose and I can't charge it, battery died, and now my phone is pretty much a really expensive paperweight until I get it fixed/sent in/whatever.
In the meantime, I dug out my old myTouch 3G Slide. It's currently running 2.1, and I know it can be upgraded to Froyo via the HTC website. However, can I upgrade this to 2.3 yet? Tried searching, but only found root/Cyanogen-related results. This phone isn't rooted, have no interest in rooting either.
Now that you have myTouch 4G, might as well root your 3G to give you more functionality and that Gingerbread. The rooting process shouldn't be that bad if you follow everything step by step.
The latest releases of CM7 is 2.3.5 based and running very smooth on the Slide. If you don't want to root. you can only go to 2.2 official.
Is there a more up-to-date root guide for the MT3GS? Noticed a couple things were dated. Having problems with adb (when I type adb devices, shows my serial number but says it's offline) and I don't have "sqlite_stmt_journals" in my tools folder, I have "sqlite3".
I've done 7 Slides using this method, works flawlessly as long as you are not updated to the official 2.2.

The latest releases of CM7 is 2.3.5 based and running very smooth on the Slide. If you don't want to root. you can only go to 2.2 official.
