Mango Build 7720 RTM; Any Takers? - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

I have been waiting long time for the official Mango Build 7720 RTM. It is now here ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1215501 )
Could the experts please take it up from there and make this available for our beloved HD2. Please please.....
CAUTION: ****PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO UPDATE YOUR HD2 WP7 ROM USING THESE FILES UNLESS YOU ARE AN EXPERT AND YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING OTHERWISE YOU WILL DESTROY YOUR SD CARD****

I second this..

defiantly, someone please have a go, cant wait for mango!

Oh .... just please. I would pay. Let's GO!

Cmon !!!

Add my vote for this as well, please! I'm still stuck at 7592 and would welcome anything beyond that release.

+1

+5000
Would love someone who has the knowledge to give it a go.

if it trough zune .... then it is no go ... need the .nb or .nbh files

Obviously people are already trying to crack this open, but I think our best hope is with DFT who probably already has it on an HD2 (in some form of stability) but is just waiting until MS's official release to make it available to the public.

No worries...I'm sure they've seen it are are keeping quiet lol...I'm sure someone will drop it on here soon!!!

there is hope

Man your thanksmeter is 69 you will do better to know that it is not easy for the chiefs.
Everything will be fine gun them more time there still hard working on this project

Everyone wants it so bad, but I hope if we get it, the SIM error will be history. Cause right now thats our main issue with Mango.
So keep up the good work Devs

+1 yess, please!

One thing people aren't considering is that MS gave us 7396 7596 to use. They may not allow us using a ripe build like 7720. In other words, MS isn't raising hell about us using 7396 & 7596. But they might object if someone produce a custom build of 7720.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA Premium app

What do you mean they gave us 7396 and 7596 to use, they cooked it for us? lol
Why would they care, the more people using WP7 the better for them.

@MartyLK
Enlighten me as well. What do you mean they gave us ... ?

They are allowing us. Those two beta builds aren't perfect and they figure they can sate the desire for a custom WP7 build with them. But this is all my speculation and not known fact. That's why I eluded to it the words, "They may not allow".
There has been a lot of behind-the-scenes-discussions with modders and MS probably figures it's impossible to stop illegal WP7 builds without getting the law involved. I'm sure MS doesn't want to go there so they allow a crippled build to serve the purpose of sating the modder's needs.
I bet if modders start messing with a ripe Mango, MS will come alive.

na, as pointed out, its in MSs intrest that we do get on board with it, the problem isnt them, its the OEMS and networks, if they think they are getting screwed they may come down, or force MS to come down on us, remember, all us HD2 users are not buying a new device which is costing them money
no, the single biggest worry for us should be people who freeload whatever they like from the market place, this will piss MS off and may force them to screw us over, they are a lot more likely to listen to the OEMs and networks if we screw over the marketplace.
Keep MS happy and buy your apps, lets let sleeping dogs lie!!

BOUNTY) for first flashable android rom!

okay after doing some hard thinking about my next upgrade and realizing i don't have a ton of money to spend on a real hero phone right now. id love to see one of the devs on here create the first fully functional android rom for our touch vogues. i know i seem to be the one on here who has no luck with most of the builds so far but something keeps bringing me back to android.
so heres the deal, i will offer $50 or more via paypal to the first dev who can make this happen. id like to see others join in and lets make this bounty worthwhile. it would be a ton cheaper for me to just buy another vogue even brand new rather than spend $300 on a hero or other android phone. i may even be willing to donate my old vogue for testing. im also hoping others may join in on this. i see some of the devs have stopped development or will by moving to real android phones. i think the vogue is a solid phone and a rom like this would really keep interest going and the community going strong. hell maybe even xda will give us our own dedicated android section for the vogue if we can do this. also since we have godzon who is very talented at skinning, maybe he can start creating themes we can use on the rom? just a thought but really the possibilities are endless IMO.
so my questions are:
who is up for the challenge?
can this be done legally without google getting upset?
which build should we use as a base? hero, xrom, ion , cupcake or tattoo?
can we root our phones after we create a rom so we can have full potential as a real android phone user?
so i ask you guys to join in with me in making this task/project worthwhile for one of our talented devs on here.
sorry i created another thread on this but lets keep all discussions about this in here from now on.
"forgot to mention, my offer stands until the first week in november. if i don't see any interest or beginning development ill withdraw and cave in and buy a real hero."
thanks, fixxxer

wouldn't the tattoo build be the best?
well donut. tattoo still has trouble with force closes on start. some incompatibilities with our ril because of proprietary code. so donut would be a great option once audio gets fully functional. i'm not about to brick my only phone......

well whatever build you guys think would be best. i just thought this would be a great idea for us vogue users. why buy a android phone when we can have fully functional rom on our vogues? then we could work on rooting, themeing and all that good stuff.
what do you think zen, would you be interested in this? would you need a spare vogue to try this out on? i might be willing to donate mine or hopefully someone else will too. im sure i can pick up a spare vogue for cheap.
I like this idea espcially since us Sprint SERO guys don't have a viable Android option to use as of yet.
I'ld paypal $50 for a version that completely ditches WM off the phone and works well. It doesn't matter which version, once someone pioneers the trial others will follow.

+1...i really hope this thread doesn't die and i hope a dev will take this offer up.
Already said this in another thread, but I've got a spare Vogue (blacklisted ESN, I think) and, while I'd like to retain possession of it, I will blindly flash whatever a dev puts out for testing.
fixer you should summarize who all are offering what amounts.
I am willing to offer $20 for this!!
bid
if you can make it work, meaning build a rom based on hero or ion, i am willing to give the person 300, which is more than getting a tmobile plan with the my touch which i also do have, but i dont wanna get rid of my vogue, its been so good to me, i have it on metro, and for some reason market dont work when i am in android. still the bounty from my end will be 300 for a flashable android rom
i'd donate $50 as well..... im a huge fan of Android and would like to see this really happen
Before we go over to make a flashable rom we should look to get all hardware working for 100%. At the moment i think the risk to brick your phone is enormous. We should ask some of the spl people if they could help
I suppose it all depends, do you guys still want to have winmo? If not than it's not too terribly far away. Right now I can make my vogue start to boot the linux kernel, it totally wrecks the winmo everytime though. And there are some challenges to overcome..
Dual boot would be too cool, if ever possible....
were up to $470 right now to the first dev to make this possible.
and to mission....were talking about a fully flashable rom like winmo. i don't really see why this cannot be done with some hard work and teamwork. as i said my offer stands until i can get the hero which may be up to a month away yet.

not really what were talking about here man. right now technically that's what we already have. android/vogue is nothing more than a program, we want a fully working operating system that can be flashed like real android users can. once again i cannot see why we can't make this happen. ive seen a ton of talented devs on here. i wish i could do even half of what they accomplish.

If one was to flash completely to android would one be able to flash back to winmo later or would that option be wiped away with the pure android flash.
Also we need a bootloader like grub for our phones so that we could install multiple os's and choose which one too boot at startup, although that might be easier to do starting from an android phone.
i think that if you want dual boot and all that junk, stick with a computer.
i would like an flashable android ROM to get rid of winMo for good.
i would donate also if it gets done.

WM7 Custom ROM's?

I'm just wondering why there is not so much activity to develop and/or improuve further the WM7 for HD2? any special reason for that?
I tought that after the port, there will be quite a lot of cookers who will make things better. Until this point of time, there is only one ROM.
Maybe one of you knows why.....
yes ive been wondering the same thing, can someone educate us plz

You are right, if you relate to xda.
There is no kitchen on xda, but DFT cooked this, so for sure they have to have something. So I guess, the question changes a bit: Why there is no available tools for the cookers?
lol, patience.
You would also benefit from doing a little reading in the windows phone 7 forum to understand the hard work in the early days.
You will also know that MS is releasing an update soon to close the unlock loop hole, although schaps is working on this
You are right and I am aware about all of this.
MS will realease the update and is clear that DFT or someone else has already a "way to keep WM7...running" no doubt about that.
Somehow I've got the impression if the first release is out -everybody will try to cook. Now the question comes: from where the guys knew that MS will try to close this gap and they are keeping hiding the kitchen until 1st update from MS?
Sounds like theory of cons... but yeah...just some toughts...
Anyway, I'm using WM7, great for bussiness part.
The idea is that it was expected a burst of rom's, but seems with WM7 they are....holding a bit. In the end, will be good, I know, but if I look in the history: wm6, 6.5, android....it was that burst and now is not.
Cheers,
Seba
WP7 is young, we can use it on our HD2 for maybe 2 or 3 weeks. Just be patient. And the DFT will know, why they don't provide us information about wp7 and maybe there's a good reason. It would be interesting to know, how the update frequency is on wp7, when microsoft get to work with updates on it.
We have not to be worried about microsoft and our modified wp7, because they said that they have no problems with this.
In a month you'll find more wp7 roms as you can imagine xD

And yet, microsoft denys us of having a windows phone 7 update. This shows how simple minded and selfish microsoft is.
Firstly, the 5 button issue. We can take that the power button just moved down to the front. And also the windows icon can be the camera and the home button could be the search button!
If microsoft does not provide us an update, why not let htc create android for the hd2? Who the hell wants to use winmo6.5? Its like, SO. LAST. CENTURY.
Winmo does not have flash 10, only flash lite, and thats not good enough for us to enjoy full flash experience on the winmo6.5 browser. Skyfire and opera has already stopped support for winmo6.5 .

Let me be honest: I don´t see any sense in a thread like this.
If you hate Microsoft or HTC, or even both, why do you buy a product from them?
As of today, it is standard that you cannot officially change the OS on your smartphone, but developers and chefs like here at xda make this possible for you. So, where´s the problem?
I fully agree with you that it would have been a great step by HTC to officially offer Android or WP7 for HD2 - now that would have been an amazing (and probably strategically wise) decision of HTC. But, they don´t make such a thing happen. I don´t blame them for that.
The future will show if HTC can continue a healthy growth, but I think this will not really depend on some "geeks" like us. Eighty per cent of the users don´t care about such things. All they want is an everyday use device; too many changes are not really what the masses want.

Hey bro, we were promised windows phone 7 remember?
Without official, nothings really complete, cause htc has the fully working drivers that the devs all want their hands on...
Fully functional if all the kernels and stuff were released to devs from htc.
I think most hd2 users want an upgrade but dont bother to complain.
Imagine if we had just one stock rom from htc... All cameras/camcorders will work. No wifi broken or bluetooth etc.
What more, others are making the switch to sensation or other preloaded android.

We were never "promised" any such thing. We simply had a Microsoft spokesmen saying something like "It will be looked into" or maybe somebody saying unofficially "yeah it will happen" which is in no way any sort of official stance on the subject.

I have Windows XP, why didn't I get a free upgrade to Windows 7. The new version of my car has parking sensors as standard, can I ask for them to retro fit it to my car for free?
We are entitled to updates not upgrades. I could have went from 1.48 to 1.72 to 3.14 ROM - these are updates to both WinMo and Sense.
The only thing that was stupid for microsoft was that they didn't officially or even unofficially allow the HD2 to be upgraded, not to please HD2 users but just to boost the WP7 Market numbers - these increased numbers would have persuaded more Marketplace developers.
WinMo may well be 'so last century' but it does well what I need it to do. The only weakness is development of apps. There is apps you can get for the iphone that you cannot get on the Android and visa versa, so are they so last century. Microsoft were way behind in developing (copying) the iphone marketplace and now they have went the full way by copying the iphone (WP7).
There is not a website that I have come accross that I cannot view the contents. Having XP I don't get to install IE9 and now IE10. Oh deary me, what can I do?
I've lost count of manufacturer's specific operating systems that just died. They hoped that it would lead to a vast app market (and so did the folks that bought these phones), only to find sod all.

I agree to what you say.
According to me what the OP is trying to convey to the people is that Microsoft and HTC both neglected the potential of a device which was both in terms of hardware and software potentially capable of running two operating systems being Android and Windows Phone 7.
Now looking at Microsoft's customer support. In the past in terms of OS upgradability MS was generous enough to offer people free upgrades.
Example: People who bought the laptops two months before Windows 7 was released were offered free upgrades.
Now that's just an example but we can clearly relate this to as to why MS didn't do the same with the HD2. Now Why ?? I don't have an answer to that and the only man according to me who can answer that is http://twitter.com/#!/joebelfiore perhaps you can contact him and ask him personally.
Now coming to HTC.
Clearly the people at HTC know by now that yes HD2 is capable of running Android super smoothly without any problems.
Now the question is, once HTC HD2 was released as a flagship Windows Mobile device back then even HTC knew that HD2 is the best windows mobile phone in the market... So why will they change the license agreement with Microsoft and release Android ?? I am not a HTC official but the answer to this wont be in our favor for sure.
Also HD2 was the device which provided the genesis of HTC Sense. And I dont say this but Drew Bamford the product engineer at HTC does.
His full talk can be found here: http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/23/the-engadget-show-003-drew-bamford-joystiqs-chris-grant-ad/
So in short...its a million dollar industry guys...a multinational company..these kind of decisions just don't take place out of the blue moon.
However I will be really happy if HTC releases an official Android Rom.
(Which seems kind of challenging specially with the unethical change of the Windows Logo to become the Menu in Android )
http://www.dkszone.net/htc-working-on-official-android-2.3-update-for-htc-hd2
also, who cares about "official" roms anymore!? the first thing i did when i got my hd2 is to flash an energy (winmo 6.5) rom on it!
owing to the fact what the hd2 hardware is capable of it is pure nonsense htc and microsoft cannot release wp7 for hd2. hardware button mapping can be distributed easily with the only limitation being a soft key for camera operation.
though we were never promised such an update, my view still holds. they can but they wont. htc has already made hd7 and microsoft wp7 on it. they wana sell it. they want money.
thing is they cant get a profit if they were to release an update. and the other thing is even though some of us are even ready to buy a wp7 OS update to hd2 if they release...soon the OS update wud release asap to the masses (think of one such site in particular) and we wud be flashing for free.
so ultimately its the profit they are after. so hd2 is a done deal and no more.
and since are at it. here is a slogan
HTC (quietly ignorant)
hehe
i dropped $ on the HD2 mere months before the HD7 release because the tmo sales guy at the ritzy tmo store 'claimed' very intently that 'oh for SURE htc & tmo love me enough to do the right thing' by upgrading my hd2 to the hd7 system.

So you got a free upgrade from Win95 to Win98 to Win2000 to WinXP to Win Vista to Win7?
How many had to replace their perfectly working printer because it would not work with a new operating system because the manufacturer didn't update the drivers?
I have had phones that were WinMo5 with no official upgrade to WinMo6 or 6.5 and WinMo6 with no upgrade to WinMo6.5. I did get those upgrades thanks to the extremely clever chefs on here.
As I have said before that I think that microsoft were stupid not the allow an upgrade to WP7. Not for pleasing existing customers, but to get more users to their brand new Apps Market and also keep them when they went for a new phone.

D.J.Steve is willing to TRY and port Android to the DVP

No flames please. If you like WP7 and think Android is crap then do not read or respond to this thread.
On the other hand, if you like the DVP but think the hardware is garbage then read on.
I've been spearheading an effort to get Android ported over to the DELL Venue Pro. I'm no developer or hacker, but I am trying to keep things organized and focused.
Here is my thread.

Now, Dell Streak 5/7 developer extrodinare is willing to try his hand and the DVP. He's not promising anything other than a best effort, but that's all we can ever ask of any community dev.
Anyone interested in helping, please let me know.

figured it's coming. DVP already got an android cousin to begin with.
why ruin something that works? I have had every dell device with android and it doesn't hold a candle to windows phone...
i would think more people would want a port of windows to the streak and venue
This would be interesting to see. As much as I like WP7 I wouldn't mind having the ability to switch between the two. Also, if he can get it to work maybe the method used can help with further development for WP7 stuff on DVP's.

Willing to help how I can
I already PM'd DJ Steve about this but Ill put it public here as well. Through a non-profit license my org has access to up to 200 units DVP's at $30 each.
NOTE: I AM NOT/ WILL NOT/ CAN NOT SELL THESE PHONES TO ANYONE
If it will help the process, or even just get it going- I could be willing to distribute.. I dunno, 5 or 10 of these to any developers that DJ Steve deemed worthy, or to him to distribute as needed.
No scheme, just that these would be REALLY useful to my organization if we could get them running Android - as Windows phones... ttheyre basically just $30 cameras and Skype phones as far as our needs are concerned.
heres the techsoup link if there are any other Non-Profits interested> ** I cant post links yet but its on the techsoup.org website under products>Dell. **
I dont know all the legal aspects of it, but if there are professional developers out there interested, it may even be possible for you to donate your 'time' as a Charitable Donation (ie tax write-off) - Again Im not a lawyer and that proposition might be completely unlawful, its just a thought- one that I will look into if anyone is interested.

DJ_Steve has been out of action for nearly a year, so he doesnt really have time to do anything dev related, much less hack bootloaders for the VP.
Do you have any VPs that are using old versions of WP7? (that wernt flashed with the FFU that is floating around?).
We are missing the URLs for unbranded VPs and the WP7 community as a whole is missing urls for the 8779 update.
Hypothetically if the bootloader was changed, I would assume it would more or less work the the V's roms, since they're like 99% identical hardware wise.

unbelievable!!!
p.s.: wp7 - telling stories the ms operator to get a key ok. but to earn money is illegal
Installing another OS requires basic knowledge on phones. Not everyone has time or is smart enough to have a good read about how it works and how to install the OS. It's only a service, if you want, you can do this for free and loose nothing, just gain (knowledge etc). And not everyone knows that HD2 isn't just a WinMo phone.
They get a service like this? It's their money, and since there is demand for such a service, they supply them. Both customer and the guy who spends 30 minutes on installing it are happy, eh?
But I don't like it either. In my opinion, if you wanted a troubleless and ready to use phone, you wouldn't choose HD2. I consider not using it as a chance to know more about mobiles as a waste. Especially now, when there are better Android and WP7 phones. I can understand people who got this phone soon after the release and had no idea that it could run multiple OSs. But buying the phone now when we can have all these fancy Androids and WPs and giving it to someone to install another is just something... weird.

its been going on for years, if people are willing to pay then so be it, as there is an obvious gap in the market, all I would say is that the person in question should be giving credit to those who deserve it.
Technically everything that happens on here ( to do with Windows anyway) is a big fat grey area, there was a BIG Whoo-ha a long time ago when MS was flapping about us having WM5 running on our WM2003 devices, I think he came right down to the line, because technically, us using a OS on an unsupported device is kind of like us stealing it, you need to remember MS licences these OSs out, so in a VERY round about way its a bit dodgy, im not completely sure about android as its not as open as it likes to make out, but I suspect there is some stuff in there as well that shouldn't be moved from one device to another.
We live in capitalism, don't you know ?
