[Q] Kernel Compare: Tiamat vs. Faux123 - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can anyone give me a performance/battery comparison between the two?
I'm currently using the latest faux123 kernel and the performance and battery life on that is great so far. I was considering flashing Tiamat on and giving it a spin, but it usually takes me a day or two of active use to get an accurate comparison between kernels, and I'm an impatient man lol.
Figured I'd give it a shot and see if anyone who has already tried out both can give me a their POV on this matter.

Just try them out. I usually have problems when I use tiamat and faux's was faster. You should consider using tdj's demonspeed aosp kernel as well, that's what I'm on right now with RG 3.0

The Daily Driver list

I've not really found a daily driver list for roms thus far.
What have you found to be worthy of the title daily driver?
I've been here since jl5. I mean like old school vibrant.
I've gone through alot of roms. At least with variations.
Many.
Today my top Rom choice would be Ginger Clone R2 by eugene.
I've tried gingerbread. Ported by whitehawx.
Till he and his team stabilize 2.3 ,
R2 to me is the best daily driver.
You need to update the modem.
In fact I myself run it with ka7.
Ka7 seems to get the best reception in my area.
If your new or seasoned and missed the opportunity to download R2.
Find eugene. Find his sight. Find R2.
I remember a certain beta called 2.2.1. By einherjar team. Amazing, stable rom.
Yes they have more out and its up to you to test those.
All roms have problems. All standard software does.
So Im just giving a starting point.
Anyone else?

My daily driver is Eugene's Ginger Clone R2 with "Dead Horse" Kernel. The fastest and most stable ROM/Kernel I have used.

I've been quite happy running Frost update 2 with Dragon v5. Snappy and smooth for me. I haven't been brave enough to try 2.3, going to wait for a fully stable release on that one.
Bionix Frost
Dragon Kernel v5 Test4
Bionix 1.3 w/ voodoo injected stock froyo kernel here. Nothing about it that keeps it from being a daily for me. Unless you're looking for 2.2.1 or higher, you didn't really say.

Darkyys rom with overstock kernel is fantastic for me.
Darkys rom vibrant edition, smoothest I've used. It comes with voodoo kernel disabled and is fast either way.

See below.. it's the daily driver for all 6 of our vibrants in the office!
An older but very stable rom, I use Axura as my DD. Its snappy and no bugs i can think of plus alot of very specific themes just for Axura on the Dev's website.
Trigger 1.7 w/Dead Horse kernel for me. I try the others but keep coming back to Trigger.
I too am using Darky's for Vibrant. Runs real smooth and works well with the FFC mod.
Bionix 1.3.1 with Overstock 1.4...best battery life, most stable, and fastest ROM I've ever used. Avoid the Dead Horse, ULF is buggy.

Im running trigger 2.7.1 with overstock kernel. It is so smooth and fast. EDT puts out awesome work plus they are very active in there threads answering questions. Give one of there roms a try you wont be disappointed.
Powered by my Triggerized Vibrant
Bionix 1.3.1 w/stock kernel. Best battery life for heavy usage to me. I use battery up fast and found this to be very stable, fast, and mantain a good battery life.
Running trigger v2.7.1 with overstock v1.4 and its perfect but im going to try cm7 >

Been said already, but bionix v 1.3.1 using overstock 1.4. Awesome rom no issues.

All evo users running MIUI's rom, what kernel?

Just looking to see what kernel and pri, nv you guys are using with this rom. And possibly help others looking as well.

For most stable results use Tiamat 3.3.7.
Currently however I am running Tiamat 4.0.2 sbc (and loving it) latest nv and the 1.77 pri as I generally get better battery life with it and it fixes my wake lock issue.

Best rom for battery life and speed?

I started out with cm7 but the battery life was so-so. I tried a few other roms and kernel variations but nothing really stood out. My last rom was oxygen 2.1.4 using the netarchy kernel, but I was only getting about 1200ish in quadrant and oxygen seemed a little unstable.
I went back to using the new cm7 RC and the trinity UV kernel and the battery seems OK and i am getting around 2700 in quadrant.
Are there any other rom/kernel combinations that i should give a shot?

Don't base the ROMs speed on Quadrant alone, Oxygen is really fast.
Don't let an outdated benchmark test decieve you.

Correction: Dont let benchmarks deceive you.
Benchmarks regardless of what it is is pointless.
It was more that oxygen seemed unstable on my phone. I might give it another go if the new cm7 battery life sucks.

You might want to check that out. CM7 battery is fine for me. Like I said, Netarchy's 1.3.6 kernel (or 1.3.4) is a NECESSITY. use that and undervolt it using proton voltage control or setcpu and use the suggested volts suggested by proton (-20 across the board)

Best Rom These Days

I am still running my Bionix rom from March. Looking to install something new. What are the current "best" daily drivers? Looking for battery life and speed.
Project v with bali kernal. I've pretty much used every combo non gingerbread and i love it! QUOTE=shark1217;15212436]I am still running my Bionix rom from March. Looking to install something new. What are the current "best" daily drivers? Looking for battery life and speed.[/QUOTE]

I second Project V, not with Bali, but with Super Dragonmodz. This combo works best for me.
I 3rd Project V but I use Bullet kernel
Project-V 6-5-11
There really is no current best daily rom its all in preferences! For example i love cm7 as i use it as a daily driver but some would say no to that rom as a daily so its all up to preferences
Get on that Simply Honey 2.3.4 and stream some Netflix!!!!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
If u wanna stick to froyo, i recommend simply galaxy 2.8. Using it with the bullet kernel and i get 24+ hours with decent usage. Just ordered myself a momax 2700mah battery in white(looks pretty sexy). So will prolly try out some more GB roms. Simple honey 3.8(3.9 update this weekend) and revolution are great roms to try out for sure
I know what I would *not* recommend. I wouldn't recommend CM7 with KB5 modem and NEO 10 kernal. Restart galore!!!!
Project V and bali x 1.1. Awesome battery life and speed
Vibrant
Rom: Project-V
Kernel: Bali X1.1
I recently flashed EDT's bi winning V3. Its been unbelievable for me. Project V just didn't like my phone. Even after a fresh Odin. Biwinning has been the cats pajamas. Buttery smooth and stupid fast.
Bi-winning V3
project v/bali 1.8.7
like the look/snappiness. battery is decent with moderate usage.so far, favorite rom.
Best rom;
It's a matter of opinion and personal taste, i've flashed basically every single rom on the vibrant new and old, the most reliable and stable i've found is Trigger( Anything, 3.2 is the bee's knees) but I am also really digging Toxic Muzic and Malice V3 all over again as well, if you want ginger, Asgard is Phenomenal (I like it so much better than CM7 and Miui is cool, but Asgard owns all) Dan Brutal recently released a new ginger rom, it's pretty amazing Brutal Honey ( Definitely recommend it) but yeah, you want a daily driver, Anything EDT or of course Team Whiskey, but Team Toxic is pretty amazing to.
Enjoy either way
(BTW Project V is pretty awesome( And it is Roman's( Trigger, replacement) Definitely give it a flash!
With the exception of cm7, which ran smooth but I got too many rebooted and sleeps of death, I'd say most of the gingerbread roms are garbage. My favorite Tom so far is bi-winning 3.0
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
if u need gps go with SGSII hybrid it runs great and has great speed and battery life if not i suggest cm7 with neo10 and kb5 modem battery life and speed is great
Project V is the best ROM I've ever used. It's so good that I don't even want to flash a kernel in fear that it will mess up its greatness.
Try RevolutionRom, it is lagless, as fast as CM7, and I can get 40+ hours of battery with OC.

I love CM7 it's fast and beautiful. Just no GPS.
I second Trigger. The mouse reliable ROM for me so far. And Bali kernel with it.

Kernel

Hi! I'm running virus ROM Andi want to overclock but from what I've read so far you gotta have a custom kernel that's compatible with the ROM your using. Which kernel(s) are compatible with virus ROM B1-3. Thanks.
Sent From My HTC EVO On Boostmobile
Virus made a ton of ROMs. Which one exactly are you on? Froyo? Sense 1.0, sense 3.0 (kingdom)?
More specifics.
If it's froyo, go with netarchy kernels, if it's gingerbread, I believe you want lithids kernel (freedom, I believe it's called), or barnacles kernel (chop suey). Or I also believe there's a lionfish kernel, too.
Basically, netarchy kernels are for froyo (2.2), the others are for gingerbread (2.3). That's the main thing to know. I'm pretty sure netarchy never built any GB kernels (been a long time, but I believe I'm right).
Virus always built the best ROMs. Good choice.

Thanks evil. Forgot about that. I was pretty much done with sense around that time. So trying to remember all the GB sense kernels was a tall task lol
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
So what kernel should I use and is it gonna cause any problems? The stock kernel is really stable.
Sent From My HTC EVO On Boostmobile
The only GB sense rom I used was blue merge. But I liked using barnacles chop suey kernel with it. Actually, that ROM can with a kernel called poonkernel, or something like that, and it was pretty wicked in its own right.
I believe lithids freedom kernels have different levels of undervolting. Less, more, and aggressive.
But really, with kernels, as long as your using a compatible kernel, beyond that, you kinda just have to try em and see which one your phone seems to prefer. Every Evo is different.
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
I would look into ca1nes kernels, classic sense and underworld SBC would be the ones I'd recommend since they are being actively developed and still supported, barnacles, lithid, and netarchy have all moved on to other devices
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
underworld ran great on derp3d (a sense 3.0 rom as well)
