Solved [Q] how to flash with a dead battery - Atrix 4G General

My battery was about 20% when i tried to reset my phone from settings> privacy menu.
then went to CWM recovery and formatted everything.
it was connected to the wall charger though.
the phone gets stuck in the "unlocked motorola boot logo" doesn't go any further from there.
had to remove battery
then tried to go to fastboot or RSD ( charger on and volume key down ) and now it says battery too low to flash
i think the battery is dead.
i dont have an external battery charger . Atrix is not officially launched in my country so not many ppl have it so that i go to them and charge my battery.
any solution to flash the phone other than buying an external charger online and wait for a week for it to arrive and then do it..

Have you tried to connect the phone to PC through USB cable?
I'm not sure but it can recover dead battery.

To copy files to your internal storage you need to use adb in recovery.
Code:
adb push yourfile.zip /mnt/sdcard/yourfile.zip
or
Code:
adb push yourfile.zip /sdcard/yourfile.zip
I don't think you will be able to install any other ROM but Fruitcake at present time. Once you finish charging your battery you can install any other ROMs. For the future I recommend to install romracer CWM Recovery which is very stable and you can use int/ext storage.

NEED HELP - Android 2.3.7 don't boot anymore

Hi Guys,
I got into a problem here, and I need help! I have a milestone 2 with the latest Endlees CyanogemMod, Android 2.3.7.
I was trying to follow the steps into using the internal memory as a SD card (link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948887), but I wasn't successful.
Here cames what I did:
First I tried to follow the steps:
1- create a file image in /data and a folder in /sdcard
mkdir /sdcard/storage
su
dd if=/dev/zero of=/data/storage.img bs=1024 count=5242880 (1024x1024x5 --> 5Gb)
busybox mkfs.vfat /data.storage.img
But that didn't work, the terminal emulator just said that the directory couldn't be found.
Then I downloaded Busybox from Android Market, and installed it. But when I executed the program, the installation wasn't done because it was insisting that Busybox wasn't able to access the folder, and didn't have superuser access to root. Even with the permission on Superuser OK!
So after that, I tried to reboot my milestone 2, and now it won't even get to the boot screen of android (screen with the rotating square)
I tried to use the boot recovery tool, and wipe all system data, and reboot, mas it isn't working. Something I noticed on Recovery Tool is that apear a messagem saying "E: Can't Open /cache/recovery/command" and "E: Can't Open /cache/recovery/caller.
Even the battery light won't turn on. If turn off the cell and try to recharge it, appears a image of the battery with a "?" on it... I tried to connect the cellphone to the PC with the usb cable, but it isn't recognized...
I hope someone can help me, I just can't afford to lose this phone.... Thanks
Look in this topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1344740 it should help you solve this problem
in general: firstly you need to charge your battery in another working Milestone 2 or in some universal battery charger (because bricked Milestone 2 is not able to charge battery) and then you need to flash SBF and it should be ok

I read somewhere else that even if the MS 2 is bricked the battery charges. Very very slowly, but it charges.
thanks for your tip... I read the entire topic, but there is a problem. My battery must be around 30% or something, but when a connect the milestone 2 with the pc via usb cable, the lateral light won't even lit... And the pc won't even recognize it...
edit: when I connect the cellphone to the pc, the light lit for 30s more or less, the appear the Motorola logo with the rabbit on the side, but then the light turn off and I get stuck in the same situation...

I don't know, maybe it is possible, but I as far as I know, everyone, who had bricked M2, charged the battery outside his phone...
So he can try it in the bricked phone, but he can't be 100% sure it will charge, right?

Yes, thats why I said here and even in the topic I referred to, you have to charge battery in another non-bricked Milestone 2 or in universal battery charger. When your M2 is bricked, it wont charge any battery (or maybe it will, but very very slow according to carpet55's post ).
So now you have to get some universal charger or working M2 (or another battery).. This is your step no. 1. Then you can flash it via RSDLite by SBF file.
ok Anonymous_!
I'm going to find a way to charge the battery and do what are you saying.
But RDS Lite can flash the android even if windows it isn't recognizing the cell phone on the usb?
thanks again! I'll return with more info when I get my battery fully charged..
After you will have charged battery, you will have to boot into bootloader by holding Power+Volume Down+Camera button, then windows should recognise it (maybe you will have to install drivers too) and then you can use RSDLite (don't forget to run it with administrator rights).
Anonymous_,
final question of the day... Where do I get the SBF file?
I'm from Brazil, so should be the brazillian version of this link?
and-developers.com/sbf:milestone2
You are on the right path
Grab Brazil 2.2 version from http://and-developers.com/sbf:milestone2 and it should be ok.
I can confirm that no, the battery does not charge when bricked. I left mine going for over 24 hours and nothing -_-. So ended up using a universal ac adapter set to 5 volts and some wires directly to the + and -. This didn't work after half an hour so I upped it to 7v and about ten minutes later, all good.
During my research to find how to fix it, someone was saying the charge sequence software in in the system or boot data, and since it was all corrupt - no charge.
But you perhaps allready have enough juice in there to load up bootloader successfully, so try what anon said and hold d-pad up and power on until the screen flashes blackish grey and let go. Then it'll tell you if the battery has enough charge to flash a sbf

Guys,
I'm thankful to everyone who tried to help me, especially Anonymous_!
Yesterday, in the same day I bricked my phone, I flashed it even without charging to 100%... and everything has gone well, but it was a close call, because my battery had only 5% left when the milestone returned to live!
Good to hear!

I'm confused. It's a little off-topic, but what does "restoring my data" have to do with TWRP in the context of flashing a new ROM?
Anyway, I would proceed with a dead battery or loose battery connector hypothesis first. It's not obvious why writes to /boot, /cache, /data, or /system would affect the bootloader.
Anything is possible at a low enough probability I suppose, but you should start troubleshooting operations with the high-probability scenarios first.
For instance - with the power off, will the "charging screen" display when you plug the tab in? How about APX** mode? (Plug in to PC and start with Power+Vol-up). If you didn't see either of those, it's likely a power supply or hardware problem.
good luck
** make sure you exit APX mode by holding down the power button for at least 20 seconds. I'm not sure if it shuts itself down after an inactivity timeout - you don't want to be draining power while trying to charge the tab.

Well, you backup your data, Wipe data and cache, flash the rom, gapps, ect. then restore data, the charging screen wont dispaly, apx mode doesnt work, but the whole story: went to flash a newer version of my rom, install faills due to error in updater binary so i go to reboot and it says "No OS Installed! Are you sure you want to reboot?" i press dont reboot, go to install the older version of the rom, go to restore data and then it shut off.

The lack of APX mode or the charger screen suggests a battery problem or a hardware failure, not a software problem. APX mode will be present even if the tablet has absolutely nothing in flash memory.
Having nothing in /system (no OS or even no filesystem) will not affect bootability of either the bootloader or the recovery.
I don't know why you would wipe data only to restore it after flashing a ROM. Usually wiping cache & dalvik-cache is sufficient for "dirty-flashing" a ROM upgrade as it is very unusual for ROM installs to diddle with the /data partition. (But making full backups is always a good idea.)
I would check (carefully) to see if the battery connector came loose before you decide to throw the tablet away.
good luck

You can hold the power button for 10 seconds and wait till you see the Google logo. Then release and hold it 10 seconds again, when the screen turns off hold the volume down button and wait for it till it automatically boots again. You'll enter bootloader mode. Download wugfresh' nexus root toolkit and install it. When the program is loaded there is a flash stock option on the right side of the program. Select the soft brick / boot loop option under the flash button. While in boot loader mode connect your nexus and press the flash button.
This is all I know!

NEXUS 7 Bricked - NO OS - tried everything but...
It's a catch 22 here. I can't get drivers installed and the nexus recognized and so when it comes to flashing/restoring via cmd prompt the PC won't recognize my device and so I can go only get so far. I have no OS installed as I wiped all like an idiot in twrp so how the hell can I get drivers installed on a nexus that has no OS installed? I can't enable usb debugging etc because, well, I have no way of getting the nexus to work so can't get into the settings to do so.
I have tried everything in twrp but there is nothing to restore - i can't get roms pushed onto it - God I give up. All I need is the PC to recognize my device and I know I can crack this. What do I have to do? Please help this idiot.

USB debugging doesn't mean **** when you are in a custom recovery. It has adb already. Your problem is your computer. Fix your computer by following one of the bajillion threads and posts about the nexus 7 drivers issues.
Installing drivers does not need android to be booted.
Your best bet is to put it in fast boot mode and follow Google's own instructions to flash it back to stock.

I must admit I'm a little 'hazy' myself when it comes to ADB related issues... I've never had much cause to use ADB. (Think I've used 'adb pull' on a couple of occasions). And I've never been in the invidious position of not having a bootable Android OS on my Nexus 7 either - which does seems to happen a quite lot with TWRP users, less so with CWM users.
Anyway... just had a tinker... and you could try the following workaround... this seemed to work to for me.
----------------------
Locate the folder on your PC where you keep your FASTBOOT and ADB .exe files...
Copy whatever ROM .zip you want into this folder.
The following example uses SmoothROM-v5.0.zip ... There is nothing to stop you from renaming this to something shorter, for ease of typing later... so, in my case, just smooth.zip.
Boot your Nexus 7 into the BOOTLOADER (Vol down [hold] + Power button), and then into RECOVERY (TWRP) and hook it up your PC.
Open a command prompt window on the aforementioned folder... and type...
Code:
adb devices
...which should yield something like the following...
Code:
List of devices attached
012345679ABCDEF recovery
(If you don't see a serial number... then you definitely have a driver problem...)
Otherwise, it's just...
Code:
adb push smooth.zip /sdcard
Or whatever ROM you wish to 'push' to the emulated SD card.
This will likely take a fair few minutes for a 300Mb+ size file (typically the size of your average ROM)... on my Windows XP box it took 4 minutes (1328 KB/s, 32565894 bytes in 239.486s) to copy over. And there are no 'progress gauges' of any kind, either... So season your patience a liitle. You can always pull up another command prompt window and type adb devices again to ensure you still have an ongoing ADB connection.
Once copied over, and still in TWRP, you can just flash it.
Good luck.
Rgrds,
Ged.
Still nothing on mine. im just about to give up and wait to see if google releases the N7 second generation at the i/o
If You familiar with Linux, You can try to understand the logic of
changing the modes.
You need to run udevadm monitor in one terminal. Then press some
combinations of key/s and look for changes with usb-devices.
The better, if You run wireshark and sniff USB interface with your device.
Put attachment here, with a comments what was pressed.
since it seems to be a hardware problem, not software, im just going to send it to asus and see what they can do.

Can't unbrick phone becuase of low battery // CAN'T CHARGE phone becuase it's bricked

I'm in a real pickle here...
My phone is bricked and I found all the resources for that already.
However, when I go to flash the firmware on the phone to bring it back to stock it's not allowing me to do it because the battery is at 4%.
I go to charge the phone a it forces itself into bootloops and doesn't charge.
I can get into recovery (CWM--which bricked the phone...likely my fault) but phone doesn't charge there.
I can get into download mode but it doesn't charge there.
WTF is going on!?!?
How can I charge my phone at this point...unfortunately, the battery isn't removable.

Edit: No, I'm unable to establish an ADB connection in Recovery to do this. I'd actually tried this already with a stock rom. Thanks though.
Flashing the Cyanogen ROM is what bricked the phone. I'm not able to establish an ADB Connection from Recovery (ClockworksMod) so I'm not able to flash anything in Sideload.
Here's the "Boot-Loop":
Power on (vibrate)
LG logo
"Source Booting Unsuccessful"
"Cause: (blank)"
And it just loops like that any time it's plugged in and not in Recovery/Download modes (which also don't charge).
I've tried a factory reset but that didn't change anything. I also tried restoring my original backup image but that doesn't work either.
Currently I'm trying this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48874488&posted=1#post48874488
This is where I get the failure to flash because of 4% battery.
Only other option I haven't tried yet is to boot into Ubuntu and restore files there and I'm avoiding that for now because I'm at my parents house and don't have burnable DVDs so it's going to be a pain in the ass.
for ubuntu couldn't you do a virtual machine, or live boot from a flashdrive?

This look's bad man.
Try power on your phone then
Plugin into your computer.
Open adb then type adb devices
When your device is listed type adb reboot recovery
If IT doesn't boot in recovery mode then You should try flashing again the rom.
Something should work.

if you've got fastboot (power + vol -)
you can fastboot (sort of like an adb) flash some system images and get your phone getting recognised by gnqc
you need :
ADB
boot.img from blu rom
system1.img from blu
right click on folder where adb and files are (they need to be on same folder for faster tipying)
write
fastboot flash system system1.img
fastboot boot boot.img
after that unplug phone, you need the drivers for blu, change cable from pc port and reconect to see if now it's recognized as a pure xl and check for the drivers.
It should install 2 com ports (hsusb, nmea) 1 adb, 1 modem and 1 storage
that is what i did to mine, hope it works on yours

You have to to try this, that is how i have unbricked mine today.
power off your phone.
prepare your gnqc so you only have to press download when needed.
power on your phone then conect fast to PC ,then press download.
If IT doesen't leț You ,pres again and just try to see If IT works in different situations.
is a long shot but this is how i unbricked mine today.
fastboot doesen't work on this device,so You can't push anithing. i don't know hou this people are doing that.
If this metod doesn't work You shold try format system and data via adb . and after that gnqc should work.

power on your phone then conect fast to PC ,then press download.

He can't use GNQC because his phone's drivers arent insatlled, gionee blocks com ports, and fastboot does work on this device, you just got to flash it, i've been using it several times
A thing to notice is when you want to acces phone storage when phone is bricked You have to poweroff your phone and keep pressing power and volume+ untill some errors start appear in windows.
then You have acces to phone memory and You can paste anithing for later flash with recovery. You must Be very carefull not to format partition when asked !!!!!!
i have bricked my gionee 32 gb several times and always been albe to restore it so,no need to panic, some method should work for You too ,just have to find the right one.
And also,my phone is a rebrand of gionee from Romania, called Allview x1 xTreme, just like life pure Xl and i haven't encountered any problem with usb drivers, just used the one gionee provided. So this mai Be the case for You, i hope i am not wrong with this one.
Com ports are only closed in android 4.4 kitkat so If he didn't update he should Be able to use gnqc.
also You must observe that phone is recognised differently by windows deppending in wich state your phone is. powered off, recovery,or on bootloop. So that's why o have said that gnqc may work but You have to find that state when he is recognised the way that gnqc wants.
Sorry for long post i Hope those observations will help you.

no signs of life (no charging led, nothing on screen) after OTA update

So yesterday I got a notification for an OTA update (I'm on sprint). I am rooted, have xposed, and have twrp installed. Partly because of my stupidity and also just to see what would happen, I clicked download and install now. Now the phone doesn't show any signs of life, even after taking out the battery and trying to drain the capacitors by holding down power then putting the battery back in. Doesn't show up on my computer when plugged in, and doesn't have any power led when charging. I've tried 4 batteries with it (lol I have too many) and they all don't work. They were all charged with external anker chargers. I've tried with the sim card and sd card taken out, too.
So yeah, my phone is dead and I have no idea what to do. I'm pretty sure I'm out of warranty because it's been two years and I've modified it.

You might consider to have a look here if you didn't do it already mate : http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/snapdragon-dev/note-4-debrick-img-t3488114
If you need the debrick.img for the sprint varient, I can give you that.
I thought OTA would not install, if you were rooted and had a custom recovery.

Hey, thanks for the help. I'm not sure how to check if my device is hard bricked? Is it normal for there to be no signs of life at all, not even power LED or vibrations? I can't get my phone to the download mode in order to show up in odin so I'm not sure how I would flash the unbrick file. When I plug my phone into my computer windows says that the device has malfunctioned and I can't find it in the device manager.

It's worth to try it i think. Some users got back their phones to life using this method. @RDChase is offering you a debrick.img for your variant. This method is using sdcard so no worries at the moment with Odin
Similar thing here, Sprint, TWRP, rooted, stock rom one of the early ones v4.4.4?!
Over last couple month it kept trying to update itself at night, very sneaky!!!! I have disabled auto-download and update BUT clearly it found a way around it, bastards!
It was in a reboot loop, extremely hot and buzzing, woke me up in the middle of night, I thought it going to burst in flames like Note 7!
So I pulled the battery out and left it out till morning, but now it no longer powers up, no LED, black screen, PC keeps saying USB drive malfunction and un-recognized, can't put it in recovery or download mode! Odin doesn't detect it also. PC device manager doesn't detect it either! Used volt meter to check both batteries both are fully charged up, but it doesn't show LED charging light?!?
Is there any way to un-brick it?
Again, I repeat phone does not power up and PC doesn't detect it!
Please help, if I can't un-brick it than I have few days until end of year to catch deal on upgrade to LG V20, hopefully it can be un-looked and rooted????
Edit: Just read online there is possibility that Note 8 is coming out either in April or Early August 2017!!!!!!
I need my Note 4 working again and last until new Note 8 comes out!

Will mounting De-Brick.img on sdcard even work if phone doesn't power on or go into download/recovery mode?
Yes. Instead of booting from internal memory, the cpu will boot from the external sdcard. Make sure you prepare it correctly however. The sdcard must be the 32GB+.
Take a look at this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2345860
Is is for the s3, I know... However, it's the same stuff happening.
This works on a soc level, not the bootloader level.
Link to N910P debrick.
Removed, can't get it back either

hi. once you get it to boot from sd card and configure the phone how do you make it so it can boot normally without the need for the sd card?

:good: Thank you for debrick.img was looking for Sprint one everywhere!
Is it supposed to be 128mb or around 4Gb?
Debrick.img doesn't includes stock Rom, does it? If it does which version?
Next Steps:
1. Copy debrick.img to sdcard?
2. Put in sdcard + battery +press VolDown+Home+Power?
3. USB connect to PC + flash new Rom using Odin?
4. Root again?
Is this correct way to do it?
Has it worked for anyone?

I'm confused, I correctly mounted the image to the sd card and I put it on the phone with a fully charged battery, and tried booting into download mode thru home + volume down + power. it doesn't show anything on screen or any LEDS. it's connected to the computer but it says "usb device malfunctioned". Thanks for your help
I can't get into download mode even with the unbrick sd card in, I mounted it with win32DiskManager and everything. No charging LED or screen or vibration at all.
I installed qualcomm drivers and it shows up as "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008"
After some research looks like this is the only method that would solve my issue.. problem is that nobody has released the files needed to do this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/help/unbrick-samsung-galaxy-note-4-sm-n910w8-t3249970
Edit: Would a USB jig help me?
dead4ngel - to permanently fix it, just Odin the stock firmware
Others - I wasn't clear in how to prepare the SD card.
To prepare it properly you image the SD card with the debrick image file. This has to be on a 32+ GB SD card. (On a Linux machine where your in the folder with debrick-n910p.img is located and your SD card is /dev/sdx the command is dd if=debrick-n910p of=/dev/sdx)
You then put it in your phone, boot to download mode (it may take a few tries), then Odin a stock rom (PH1 or PK1 only) which MUST contain the bootloader
After this you don't need have the SD card be prepared like this, your bootloader will be fixed

:good: Again thanks a lot for debrick.img it worked, you saved my butt!
Here is what I did to make it come alive, it did take couple trial and errors on my part.
Warning DO NOT copy & paste image file directly onto sdcard, it wont work!
Instead use the diskimage win32 software that was mentioned in Debrick thread before.
I used it to unpack and write file from debrick.img onto 16GB sdcard (only one I have) using that little piece of software.
I plugged in sdcard + battery, than pressed power button and phone came back to LIVE:angel:
Now it is back in my original KitKat Rom v4.4.4 still booted from sdcard, I was able to transfer all my documents and photos to my PC, thank God!
Ps screen got very hot again while it tried to run another software update, I killed it with task manager and turned off Data+WiFi radios for now, until I re-Flash from Odin!
Now for next step to flash new ROM using Odin, do I have to flash original KitKat 4.4.4 or Lollipop 5.11 recovery or can I just flash stock Marshmallow 6.11?
Is there stock Sprint+rooted+De-Odexed Marshmallow 6.11 version I can safely flash?
Do I need to root again each new ROM?
pLz i want to update jn lollipop halp me
Sent from my Panasonic ELUGA Z using XDA Free mobile app
@RDChase One step forward two steps backward arhh!
Managed to put it into download mode + downloaded Marshmallow PK1
BUT still having issue with malfunctioning USB device "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)
I have installed Google & Samsung & Qualcomm drivers to no effect!
How do I fix it?
try differnt usb cords and/ports
unistall/reinstall samsung drivers
take a look at this
yes please !!!!
