I was running MIUI 1.7.1 (I think), my phone died and I wasn't home. When I got home a couple of hours later, I plugged my phone into the chargerr, plugged into my computer, and nothing. Nothing pops up, no sounds, just black screen. Anything I could do? I don't think I can send it back because my phone was rooted.
Depends on your ethics. If you can't get it to turn on then chances are neither will they. They'll just flash a fresh OS and send it with the other refurbs, so you'd probably get away with calling tmobile and telling them you were updating via kies and your phone never came back on. Otherwise search jtag and find connexion
try a different battery
U can send it back even do its rooted most like there gonna factory restore

This actually happened to me, but it was really the Kies Update to 2.2 that screwed my phone over. I sent it in and it came back in about a week and a half. Samsung just checked for water damage and ripped the motherboard out and replaced it. You get the same phone, with the same scratches and everything. The only upside is that they refurbish the inside of it (ie the GPS).
have u tried getting into download mode so u can odin to stock , take out the battery for a few seconds put it back in hold the volume buttons then plug ur phone in, if that works ur good to go
i think his battery is toast.
Samsung will take the phone under warranty even if a custom rom is flashed. I have sent 2 back for warranty repairs with custom roms, and both times the phones were fixed. Only downside is it takes 1-2 weeks.
Something similar happens to me. When my battery gets too hot it won't charge no matter what. Even if it's about to die. After it cools down it can charge again.

Yes my phone shut down on its own. Rebooted it launched car mode right away I went and shut it off and then BLANK.
And now if i can even get it to power on it does for less thn a second before going dark.
I tried both my extended and stock battery. Phone be dead.
Next question can I take it into a sprint store and have it replaced under a defect or am i shelling out cash?

With the battery inserted and the phone off, plug it into the wall outlet. Does the orange/green light turn on?
Try unplugging the charger and remove the battery. Then press and hold the power button (to flush any left over charge).
Insert the battery and power it up. Let us know the results.
Also, did you do anything to your phone? (i.e. SetCPU? Flash a .zip file)
Good luck dude.
I have done all of that.
ALSO NO LIGHT COMES ON WHEN PLUGGED IN with any of my batteries. (STOCK and a 3500mAh battery)
I have put on set cpu using the profile ONDEMAND
I did not flash anything. It was on sitting there next to me and it just shut off. I was not doing anything at the time. When I turned it back on it was in car mode like it sensed the dock. I was like okay well bugs happen. So i swipe down turn it off. And then the car mode indicator stayed on and i was thinking well wtf. Then my screen went black. I then pushed the power button and i swiped to enter into the home screen which was black then a few seconds latter it gave me the loading screen like it was loading sense then *DEAD* ...

Not the cable I have 6 micro cables in the house. Two for other devices some for my dads and step moms phones and the two for my Bluetooth and kindle.
IT isn't the batteries. or the cables..

Sounds like the phone is pretty much toast then. There shouldn't be any harm in taking the phone in and seeing if a warranty exchange will be done. At worst they'll tell you that you gotta pay up, and at best they'll either be able to fix it or offer a replacement free of charge.
If you gotta pay up then you do always have the choice of refusing, in which case you're left in exactly the same situation you are now; a broken phone and no money out of your pocket. I say take it in, see what happens. No guarantees either way but surely it's gotta be worth a shot.
I got a sprint store that does not do repairs but its a corporate sized store.
Then inn victorville I have a store that is a 3rd party store but offers all services except 4g... They are on the same road. So tomorrow I am hitting the sprint one first to see what the deal is.
Anyways I think i might get warranty due to it just failing all of a sudden.
Also do i have to give them my memory card back?

Sweet. It sucks alot due to it failing and my class schedual for college was on my phone >.<
I start tomorrow again.
You never give the SD card back. It's been a while since I've gotten a replacement phone, but I'm fairly sure you get to keep the charger cable and a/c adapter as well.
That is how it should work.
Have them boost your battery on their cadex machine anyway.
I've seen people come in with supposedly fried phones that wouldn't light up for anything. Quick cadex boost and they're out the door with a working phone again.

Hopefully you didn't have your phone overclocked and caused it to go haywire. What kind of Kernel did you use? Was it SBC or non-SBC?
Well my EVO came back alive... Idk why but it just did.. I don't understand why it would re act like this.
But I do not over clock. I use on demand and smart ass for battery. I dont over clock but i under clock to 128 for min. I use the freedom aggressive v8 . I have not had a problem with undervolting ever before..

check the pins on your usb connector for items than can short (foil gum wrappers etc). That could have been what kicked it into car mode too.

I am not sure. i switched to the newer 8.5 kernel and started using my stock battery. So I am not sure what fixed it but it eventually came back to life...
Yup. Left phone on charger overnight - woke up and the camera was flashing every 2 seconds. That's all it will do. Whether it's hooked up, unhooked. As long as the battery's in that's what it does. No rom changes in over 2 weeks. No damage of any sort.... no recovery or anything
Well you can probably do a warranty exchange.
I voided my warranty and your mum.
I had something similar with my nexus one. Except it wasnt the camera but the trackball... changing kernels around seem to help a bit but eventually i took it for water damage. Take the battery out and let it dry off for a day or two. You can also try to pry it open and have your hand at any corrosion if you find any. However i wouldnt recommend that unless you know what yer doing.

I realize that but like i said i had the same experience and my phone didnt get noticably wet at any time could have been a single drop of water and corrosion takes a while to build up.
Still...
Im wondering if you used your original charger when this happend because i can personally say ive seen my atrix behaving strange when connected to some cheap random charger (touch screen not working for example). Didnt believe it could cause permenant damage though.

It was hooked up with a Blackberry charger, actually.
Still acts the same.
Check the charger to see if its power ratings are different than your otiginal one.
Also... does the device boot up in any way or is the screen simply black and the flash flickering no matter what?

Looking at it today, I noticed that the charger port (or inlet if you will) is very structurally loose. The voltage on the blackberry charger is about 3/5 that of the stock Atrix charger, if memory serves me - somebody at work switched out the chargers the day after I got the phone. It took a good 6 hours to charge...
ATT said that it would be full cost of phone, because it's personal damage.
I'm looking into the Mi-One.
EDIT: No, the screen will not even begin to come on. Camera flashing is the only indicator of any power. Used an external battery charger, and two different batteries.
The MI-One looks sweet!!!!

Moto will probably either fix it or send you another phone. I know people who bricked from trying to downgrade and they got another phone. I'm sure you could too. I would try that before you buy another phone.
ETA: Now that I think about it not being able to put the rom back to stock would probably be an issue if they can get it to turn on but if they can't they might replace it.

I also think you should bring it up with motorola. Waking up to find your phone bricked is hardly what id call personal damage. You also shouldn't bring up the charger issue. And as for the usb port i'd say it would take too much effort to discern the connection with that and the phone acting as it is, and im sure they would rather just send a replacement unit.
A usb port malfunctioning is hardly an account for personal damage. The usual case is they simply stop working, but definitely not brick your entire phone.

Well sadly my beloved HD2 decided not to turn on yesterday and Im hoping someone has the answer to fixing it.
I have an ICS android rom installed onto it with CWM Recovery so I should be able to charge while the phone is not on but I am not getting a charging light at all, I have tried multiple usb leads and even a out of phone battery charger which says the battery is fully charged but when I turn it on all I get is a slight vibrate and then nothing. I have also tried bending the pins to make sure they are connecting with the battery.
Any Ideas? Thanks

i suspect you are confusing CWM and cLK. cLK can charge when off, magldr can't. Its nothing to do with CWM.
Assuming you have magldr, and don't have an external charger / spare hd2 / spare battery to test with, if you have a spare usb cable (mini, micro, doesn't matter, any old usb lead) cut end off, (mini end, lol) bare red and black and hold them against + and - on the battery for a minute or so. Fingers are fine, you wont get a shock. Don't touch the center plate on the battery, just the + and - outer pads.
If that doesn't work then its not the battery.
Yes sorry I did mean cLK, I have already used an external charger with the battery and I should be getting a spare tomorrow just to double check it is not the battery and I guess this method is just to charge the battery?
If it is not the battery do you have any idea what else it could be? again the only sign of life in the phone is the small vibration I get if I take out the battery and put it back in and press the on button.
Well I just got the spare battery but nothing new still get the tiny vibrate and the phone does not turn on
Possibility that the lcd went out on you... worst case scenarios is you having to buy a new used phone and selling your current one as parts not work. Hopefully by selling your broken phone... you will get some money to cover for the new used phone

Yes its possible.... I had it happened to my hd2... but to make sure I searched and found that it is possible that the LCD went bad and still you can see that it power on. .. but because you cant see where your phone loads up. .. it could be bootlooping. .. but if it power up all the way. .. called it. .. see if it rings

So all this happened sometime during the night of 7/1 & morning of 7/2. I noticed when my alarm went off on my phone, my phone was EXTREMELY HOT. Very uncomfortable to the touch. However the battery was at 100%. Not really thinking anything of it, I used it as normal and when bedtime rolled around, I plugged it back in the stock cable & charger. No "beep" indicating it's charging. No change to the battery icon. I started troubleshooting and testing it with different cables/different charger combinations. My phone would not charge at all but everytime I connected a charger to it while it was turned on, it started getting very hot.
I eventually just turned the phone off and attempted to charge it again. When it's off, it won't charge (but won't overheat).
I did notice that when I used another charger (that had an LED indicator of when it was charging), it would completely go off when I plugged my GS4 to it.
I'e never used any other charger with my GS4.
Any ideas WTF is going on?

Can you give us any insight on the phone such as any custom flashes or possible root permissions to apps that might affect the battery?
Most likely than not the battery might be fault, I highly doubt it would be anything else unless it's flashes with a certain kernel or rom that might have a bug or two.

Oh. Sorry about that. This phone is as stock as it gets. Nothing custom about it.
I talked to AT&T Chat this morning and they said they think it's the battery. I've never really heard of a battery preventing a charge problem, but that's what they told me it was.
The crappy part is, they are sending me a battery first (and if that doesn't work), they told me to call them back to have the phone replaced. What's worse is if it isn't a battery problem, I'm out a phone for the entire weekend until Monday or Tuesday.

I think in most cases (i don't know AT&T) they send you a replacement and ask you to ship your phone into the box your new phone came in.
Either way I would think that it is the battery especially with your phone overheating while charging Of courses there are cases where the plug or cord is at fault so you might want to give those options a try as well.

I might want to try that option (get a new phone) despite them sending me a battery first. I'll call them back.
My phone has about 15% left (I turned it off after I realized I couldn't charge it for troubleshooting purposes). I notice now that the phone gets really warm (around the camera flash) when on. This is without it being plugged in and only turned on.
I've tried 2 other chargers (A Griffin and a Belkin that I use for my other phones for work) and none of them charge my GS4. When I plug it into my Motorola Droid Razr (work phone), it charges that just fine. This is really frustrating. Any other weekend would be fine, but it's the freaking 4th of July weekend and I won't have a phone for the entire holiday.
Thanks man, going to call AT&T to see if I can sweet talk the rep to just send me a new phone. The battery is scheduled to come Friday, so maybe they can ship the phone that quickly.

I'm not the biggest tech guy when it comes to phones but I think around the flash area is where the battery connectors are (where they make contact with the phone), so that might result in it getting warm. Although with you not charging it it can still be the battery being faulty.
I would call them back and try to exchange the full phone just to be on the safe side. I still think it is the battery but if your under warranty why let it go to waste?
This happened to me with an HTC Sensation back in 2011. They sent me another battery and it still did this. This could be a common defect among logic boards. Anyway, I get a warranty replacement right away. In your case, it won't matter what rom your using, it will always do this.

Thanks guys. I did what you said on Wednesday and AT&T is sending me another phone. Should arrive sometime today. My phone's been off for 3 days now. But with about 10% charge left, I'm curious about something.
Do you have suggestions on how I can make a backup/copy my settings from my old phone to the new one? Remember, my port isn't working. So not sure if this is even possible.

Best bet would prob be to see if you can get an app quick that backs up everything onto the SD card and swap the SD cards when the phone arrives. Or manually back up what you can to SD (pictures, songs etc) using apps like ES manager etc
PLEASE! Im experiencing same issue with my phone, any solution?
I purchased a defective sgh-i747m (Canadian version of the s4) and, when I connect the phone to as charger, the area where the charging cable connects to the motherboard gets extremely hot. When I try to boot the phone with a good battery, the Samsung logo appears, then the phone turns off. Can't seem to get the phone to charge the battery without getting really hot. Only solution I found was changing the motheboard.
i just got this problem today and a bad time because im leaving in a week, but i decide to leave with out a battery for a couple days see if that does anything
So i went to charge my GS4 last night , when i woke up the phone was off, no sign of life ...
So i did all the normal stuff, take out battery etc, still nothing, just wont even show any sign of life , put it back on charge, came back 30 mins later and it was warm , but still nothing?!
any ideas?
It would be wise to take it to customer center before trying anything else...
I guess its still in warrenty period,
It seems, that u got a faulty device, they might replace it..

God damn.....................
so annoying!
Happened to me last saturday night, i left with 8% of charge then sunday it was completely drained, i dont think it is dead because everytime i pull off the battery and re-insert it, the phone boots up showing the galaxy logo but having no charge it switches off.
Already called the customer service but they're taking too long to start the returning process of the phone having it for only 3 days i think its still in warranty (7 day returning warranty). I'm thinking of bringing it to a repair centre but would costs me about 60euros. Is it worthy to wait? Or bring it at repaircentre?
