App which shows number in missed call/text message received in lockscreen? - Epic 4G General

My friend, who came from an iPhone (an iPhone 3G in fact) to the Epic (which I convinced him to) is irked that the Epic does not show the phone number of a missed call or the text message received in the lockscreen. He basically has to unlock the phone in order to see it. That was one feature he liked about the iPhone was the ability to see what number called him from the lockscreen if he missed a call without having to unlock the phone.
I'll be working on his phone this weekend and putting on SRF 1.2 to help improve his battery life, change the locksreen to unlock by swiping sideways, and overall improve his experience on the phone. He is not very technical but at this point he was getting frustrated with the phone and was thinking about selling it, but was willing to give it one more chance by having me tweak his phone for him to improve battery life, reduce the number of FCs, and overall salvage the reputation of the phone.

Wow, that is just SOOOOOO inconvenient. God damn iPhone users are the whiniest ****ing babies on the planet.

Unfortunately, the iPhone was made for people like him, those that are not tech savvy. But he ended up on Sprint because his AT&T bill was through the roof ($400 in one month in fact for overage of minutes). He's lucky to have me as his best friend (he was my best man at my wedding and godfather to my daughter). He was so mad and frustrated with the phone yesterday he almost threw it on the ground and smashed it. I told him I would help him out (as I do with his computer problems) this weekend. He even thought you could get a jailbroken iPhone to work on Sprint!

Handcent I believe has the feature that shows a pop up of the text. As for missed calls I have no idea but if he is giving up just because of that then he doesn't deserve this.phone. tell him to go back to his crappy iPhone

would he settle for something like using widget locker to go from the lock screen directly to his call log or sms?

So if he has 5 new texts/missed calls he wants all of those numbers to show on the lockscreen? And if that and the other reasons are why he doesn't "like the phone" he's gonna have a bad experiance with android in general.... he should have gotten the photon.... if I was just now looking for a new phone the photon would be a huge blimp on my radar.....

Doesn't the stock lock screen on TW do this? You just slide up or down for either

Indeed.. it shows missed and text with counts.
But I think he wants contact info as well.

Jesus, just tell him to swipe down.

I think he might be able to use this Missed Call widget on his lock screen if he also gets the Widget Locker app that was referenced earlier in this thread.

Hope it helps. Tell him that you can usually get just about anything to work on Android if you are willing to research it.

No hew doesn't have SRF 1.2 yet. He is still running stock. I will put on SRF 1.2 on his phone once we meet up. He is currently using Touchwiz. His big problem is when you get a missed call for example, it only shows you on the TW lock screen you have 1 missed called (or 2 or 3 or whatever) and that's all it tells you. On an iPhone, he states, it would tell you on the lockscreen that you have a missed call and the contact (or number if the number is not in your contact list on your phone).
Thus on our Epic, he would have to swype down to unlock the phone, which then goes into your phone dialer app, which then you would have to choose call log to see what number you missed. Basically extra steps just to see the number (swype to unlock and go into phone dialer, then click on call log).
Me, I don't care since I have never owned an iPhone, but I guess for someone who owned an iPhone and used that function, I can see why it is a very convenient feature.
Also text messages worked the same way, if you a receive a text while you are away from the phone, and it was locked, it would show you the contact and/or number on the lockscreen as well without having to swype first to see who it was from.

I feel his pain. I missed part of rise of the planet of the apes the other day because I was trying to see who that damn missed text was from and I had to swipe up. Turns out it was my gf sending me a Michael's coupon, ****....
40% off though.

I've been having this issue too. Is it a problem on spirnt's end or a manufacturer hardware/software issue?
Best is when texts arrive out of sequence and delayed.
I hope most people realize texts are not as reliable as email, especially when sent between different providers.
No problems here but I did have this issue all the time with Alltell before AT&T bought em
Yeah, I get this problem quite often between my wife and me. It seems to be random when it happens. I'm thinking it's a Sprint issue, not hardware or software.
just stopped in to flame for your use of "convo" lol. I personally hate having a text conversation, that's why I have a phone. I try to keep texts short and sweet.

ahaha that must have went well...
A phone call will "normally" fix it. Sometimes it wont even make a call while this is happening.
Instant messaging seems to be the only way, other than a phone call, to ensure messages get through. And avoid pissed off wives/girlfriends.
I know, I am starting to rely on using google chat/trillian to get my message thru to the wife friends and all. I like the one about getting food for himself, that happened to me the other day and I was a unhappy camper sharing with the wife. But the thing is phone conversations i hate cause of akward silence. Texts is just straight to the point and easy to hide. hahaha
Look on the bright side.. You get free mobile-mobile. It takes 20 seconds to ask the question and receive an answer vs sending a text, waiting for it to be received and acknowledged.
This has to be one of those generation gap things. For years I hated texts and texting, still do. However it is beneficial to non time critical events.

who actually uses ffc daily?

So to anyone who modded their vibrants to have ffc, do you use it daily or just use it for show and tell everyone you have a ffc and they don't? Lol I just wanna know cause even in public I don't ever see anyone, not even facetime for iPhone, uses it. Not at home or anywhere else.
Honestly in the 5 months I've had it I have never used it. No one wants to video chat and no one has a FFC I guess I just have it because I can you know what I mean. I like to mod as much as I can
I use mine to check to see if I have boogers mainly. I used the ffc the first night I installed it with a video call on oovoo just to test it. Other than that, it's mainly a mirror for me for the boogie check. Hard finding friends with a ffc to use it with while I'm out. And when I get home, I just use my laptop.
Iphone users can't unless connected to wifi. And if you did see them use it, it would just be another congratulatory circle jerk.
As for me, I use it often. Nothing like flashing my junk on screen in the middle of a call.

Now this is funny
I don't know about daily, but I will say I use mine weekly. Tango ftw
Beware of angry gingerbread
I do alot, talk to my wife quite a bit on it
I am also in the camp of "I mod because I can." My wife also has the latest iPod, so I call her on it every once in a while for kicks.
Weekly opposed to daily, I suppose. I'm making it more of a habit to video chat friends and family I haven't seen in some time. It's always fun to show off to friends who even have the Vibrant, but of course not the FFC.
Haha, sadly I have done the same. :-[

I'm expecting to get my FFC mod in the next few days. Don't know if I'm going to use it or not, but just want to have it.
In the month I have had mine I have used it twice. I like to mode too and i think that is the main reason I did it, and to shut my friends up that have EVO's...lol
I don't even use my rfc daily
I think its more along the lines of "something thats nice to have and may use once in a while." I mean, its not like its a hefty investment and you're allowing your Vibrant to do something its capable of.
I’m wondering the same thing. I’m considering adding an FFC and would like some input from the community. For those with an FFC, is it worth the time, money and effort? Is it simply a “nice to have” or do you find it practical being used regularly?
I thank you in advance for your comments.

[Funny] My goofy mother.

So, for the longest time...my mom has been claiming that she cannot answer phone calls on her DX.
The general custom would be to call her, let it ring a couple times, hang up, and wait for her to call back.
I mean this has been going on since she first got the phone.
Turns out...I was showing her a feature of gingerbread (text reply after ignored call) and I'm sitting next to her...and I call her.
She taps the red tab.
"No mom, ignore the call."
She taps it again.
"Mom...are you serious?"
(getting frustrated with my condescending remark) "OK! WHAT AM I DOING WRONG!?"
She didn't realize those were sliders...all this time...holy ****.
Lmfaooo that is great! That would totally be my mom if she ever even got an Android phone lol...
I was raving about the X a few months before it came out...
And she ordered one and got it on the release date, same as me.
She has a total of about 10 non-stock applications...
One of them being launcher pro that I FINALLY convinced her to use.
I'm curious what the appeal is if she literally only uses it as a phone.
No browser use...never checks for application updates...

Maybe I am just too picky, but when I buy something I expect the damned thing to work. I am near ready to just say give me a different phone. I am tired of it not working.
For the record though, I love my Atrix. The only accessory I do not own so far is the lap top dock which I just can't justify the cost yet when I have so many other computers already.
Squeaky wheel gets the grease though I guess.
Did you get each of them from the same location? Did you record the serial numbers by chance.
Some people seem to be having quite a lot of trouble while others are not, so maybe there is a bad batch out there. It would be nice to be able to identify it.

I am just as lucky as you are. 3 Phones later:
#1: Flawless, fast, perfect, no lag no glitch no hangup. Purchased the day the phone came out. 1 Month and 2 weeks later...I went to check a text message and it never turned on again (tried everything). I miss that perfect phone, it was too perfect it probably killed itself.
#2: They sent me a used/refurbished/barely touched phone...I don't care what you call it. It would glitch and randomly restart a lot, the LED notification would blink when I had no messages, emails, etc. The unlock slider would move and freeze for a few long seconds before unlocking the phone.
#3: I am currently using this phone. It works well enough for me not to send it back for yet ANOTHER used/refurbished/barely touched phone. The camera app likes to not work when I need it the most and my LED light app does the same thing, it likes to disappear or not work. I re-installed these apps but same thing. Its probably just Android. The phone, while fast, does not seem as fast as my 1st phone. It has its hangups and issues but not enough for me to bother. Hopefully not a hardware issue.
And I am 90% positive that if I need a 4th phone, even after the first 3, they still will not just give me a new one.

However, professionally speaking... a text message IS NOT EVIDENCE! Any of you idiots that think it is, then you're F**king stuipd! Anyone can pick up a phone and send a message. You can not prove that the person really sent the messages. Hell, the other issue with it is that if you printed out. you'll likely forget to put ALL the text messages in. I find people like you stupid and people like you should be beat up many times until you're either in a hospital or worse.
THEREFORE LEGALLY A TEXT MESSAGE CAN NOT BE USED IN COURT. If the judge is smart, he will tell you the same.

You could take screenshots of the messages you want and print the images out. Or submit your whole phone as evidence.
This app backs your messages up to your gmail, with date/ time stamps, and you can print them from there;
https://market.android.com/details?id=tv.studer.smssync&feature=search_result
And I noticed this one in the "related apps" side;
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.smeiti.smstotext&feature=related_apps
So that should get you going. Good luck!
Google Voice keeps all my texts on my account; time stamps, etc. Access from any PC.
print share printeranywhere(dot)com print as pdf or just plain paper once they are pdf it records from which device which is admissible in court
Like I said, a good judge and/or lawyer would argue there is no way in hell to prove who is on the other end. Google voice, anyone online can log on and send whatever they want. I am in fact correct. If a judge did use it in court, then it can be challenged.

In a criminal case, sure. In a civil case, "evidence" is treated differently.
Either way, no need to get all bent out of shape. It's just a question.

That's it right there. In criminal, evidence must prove beyond a reasonable doubt. In civil, it basically just has to be more likely than not.
Besides, a text message will have the phone number from which it came, which is fine for civil.
There is also printershare it allows you to cloud print to your pc. One of the options is to print your text messages.

Perhaps this wasn't admissible in your road rage trial, but you can't possibly know the stipulations of every legal scenario.
PS: to the OP, SMS Backup from the market works great at both restoring and printing messages.
You can choose which format for export, e.g CSV or txt file, which can then be printed.
Worked perfect, thanks
