app uninstall problem - now no more app space - Gen8 General

Hi all,
I installed the new FireFox beta 6 this afternoon and after playing around with it for a while watching my 101 slowly die on itself trying to get everything in line, I gave up and tried to uninstall it.
I say tried because it hasn't freed up my app space after the uninstall and I was only left with 6MB RAM free, even after rebooting. I then cleaned as much application cache and userdata that other apps were using as possible and managed to get it up to almost 15MB's free (which is not even half of what it was before I installed the firefox beta). So absolutely no way I can install anything new now except if I uninstall some other apps (which I obviously don't want to do as there was plenty of RAM before the FF beta).
It looks like my FF beta surfing left some data or something behind in RAM after the uninstall? Anybody got any idea's how to get rid of it (without wiping my device) so I can get my RAM back or at least some way to find out where my RAM went?
Cheers,
Rick

You can test it with soms apps, search for "Memory manager" or so
But remove it... it will be hard if you dont have root, you havent right?^^
You can try to install FF again and remove it again

Thanks for the advice but I finally gave up and did a full reinitialization and have now almost got things back to normal again. Funny but it now seems that no matter what I install there's always about 90MB's appspace left.. And that's including all my previous apps and goolge earth to boot. Go figure??????

Dont know why this is either..
But if you need much app space you should try Urukdroid (Up to 2gig i think)

If that happens again, on a rooted device you can do:
Code:
su
cd /data
du
(Either in a terminal or adb shell.) That will let you know which directory was eating up space.

...which brings us to the best advice: install UrukDroid! Apart from all its other benefits, you can create your own partition lay out with much more app space. Never have this problem again.

Delete the media storage. I had the sane problem. I recovered 1.29 GB.

If you aren't rooted you could try remving a few apps that don't store any details -- games that you dont care about having to reach that level again -- reinstall nfs shift all the way then remove it properly and put your apps back on either that or turn the phone off and back on and see if it purges it out.

What does this adb rm mean? Looks like a script which must be entered somewhere in command line? I am quite new to hacking my phone . Is there a tutorial to use it?

How to get more /datadata storage!?

Running Trigger Redux 13
I had 173 in total and after installing my apps (232) it comes down to 1.55 mb
I delete the folders but come back after rebooting.
I find it that I have to delete apps to keep the phone running without forceclosing.
It is weird because the TW roms never do that. Only AOSP roms
Don't know why.
I have 211 user apps and cm7 doesn't force close on me? Neither does miui. Why would you need more /datadata space?

Folders will always re-appear unless you delete the actual app that its creating them or if is part of the OS you don't wanna be deleting them even if they are empty. If Im getting this right your talking about your internal (app) storage partition in your phone right (iow not the internal/external sd). There are only a few things you could do to get a little more storage space in there but some u gotta do it at ur own risk. 1-reboot to recovery and wipe catche & dalvik catche. 2-Remove bloatware or any other app u dont really use (u sure u wanna keep that fart app?) via Titanium Backup am make sure u wipe data b4 removing them (search & read what systems app ur safe to remove k)and then re-do step 1. 3-Using a file manager (like Astro or Root Explorer) go to data/data folder and delete any leftover folders from apps you uninstalled (VERY RISKY!!! You really gotta know what ur doing cuz the apps name and the com." ". " " folder name sometimes wont be the same so I DO NOT recommend it but its here as a fyi).
...and another note: not sure about u but when Dolphin Browser HD went 5.0 I had to let it go cuz it was slow and it FC on me a couple of times so I had to say bye to it and now I'm happy with Firefox.

Wait so when I delete an app the /datadata folder still has the app folder.?
So for every app I uninstall I have to go into the/datadata older and delete that file.

I've noticed that some files will stay there after you uninstall SOME apps (i.e. angry birds), not all of them.
I'm not saying to do that, all what I gave you was some FYI , THAT's IT!
The /datadata issue is a huge PITA! I dont understand why it only affects some people and others dont have the issue. I have to monitor my phones /datadata folder because once it gets around 85% usage, my phone gets wonky. I NEVER had to worry about this pre-GB ROM.
Oh yes, very annoying. Even when moving apptosd it stills gives force closes. I gave up. My solution, have less Apps.

I already investigated this months back. They put datadata in its own partition to fix performance issues. The tradeoff is the datadata partition is smaller than the default internal app partition.

[Q] "Crap" Everywhere - From Uninstalled Apps

In trying to free up some space on my KF today, I noticed that apps that I had uninstalled, both before and after I rooted my KF, still left the entire app on my KF.
What's up with this?
For example, one of the first things I installed, kinda jokingly, was the Nook app. This was days after I got my KF and I had also downloaded a few free books for it. I uninstalled that app 6 months ago, yet all the Nook files were still there, including the .apk. I was able to delete them all and not cause any noticeable problem with my KF, but I have d/l'd a lot of apps and deleted them since I got my KF on the first day it was released. So if it had an easy name to remember, not too big of an issue, but app names in the directory aren't always straightforward to what they are... they may be listed by their developer's name or such.
I'm not opposed to completely wiping it and re-installing everything, but there are a number of games that I would lose my progress in if I did that. Plus, I am not in desperate need of space... yet. Granted, the TWRP backup doesn't help much when it comes to space, but it is a nice thing to have.
[BTW, my KF has been rooted for several months now, and was just updated with the latest KFU v9.6, running GoLauncher. It's a pretty straight forward rooted device that I haven't tweaked much because I really do read a lot on it.]
So I was wondering if there was an app that works better than the free version of SD Maid to clean up all this left over garbage? Even SD Maid didn't detect the Nook app still being there (the free version doesn't do all the paid version does, but, for the most part, it still shows ya what it found). Or if someone has a detailed guide of walking you through how to clean up useless files... that would be cool too.
Like I said, there is definitely a lot of crap taking up space that can be deleted. But I don't know Android (I'm really a Windows/Cisco guy), so I don't know to what extent I can delete stuff without causing problems.
Any help would be appreciated.
BTW, could the Image Verification images be any harder? LOL

I believe this is an issue in older Android versions. I noticed my phone doing the same thing while it was in Eclair, then in Froyo and then in GingerBread.
It looks to me like ICS will automatically remove any orphan data it finds - I've tried deleting just an application's apk and, after rebooting the system, its data was gone as well (tried on both my phone and KF).

I guess you can try "pm list packages -f" to get the names of the apks and their matching data folders.

You can most likely extract their data. Alternatively, you may want to look into Titanium Backup for backing up both apps and their data.

You could also move the TWRP backup to the computer...
I would just backup any apps/games on TB while also saving the contents of your SD on your computer. Then simply use TWRP to wide SD card. You can then move your TWRP backups to the SD card from your computer and restore app and data on TB.

Can't install apps, out of space message but over 500 MB free.

So i have this strange problem any app that I try to install from Google Play or manually .apk i get "Out of space" message and I have 514Mb free and the app i try to install has 20mb. As it seems is a pretty common problem, but none of the fixes i found worked...
What i've tried:
1. Delete .obex files from /data/app or system/app. There is no .obex file in them.
2. Cleared cache.
3. Cleared dalvik-cache.
4. Luky patcher fixes under "troubleshooting"
5. Delete titanium backup.
None of them worked... I have the 8gb vs and 500mb are very useful...
Only solution is to free up more space...

free some space, get rid of your illegally obtained apps that you used lucky patcher on.
you cant install any apps that will take you under 500mb free space. its not an issue, its how it works. there is a reason for this. your phone needs space foe caches, or it will not run properly. also, you will notice that if you do go below, you will not be able to conbect to googles service, and your blue bars will go gray.
plus, why are you using lucky patcher? you do realize that its frowned upon? plus, it comes from a not very safe russian hacker/site.. you do realize that almost every android virus comes from that area. i cant even imagine what viruses are included in lucky patcher. maybe its even a virus affecting you.

I installed lucky patcher strictly for this problem, as I found in other threads here, in which it was mentioned that it may help with this storage issue.
500 mb limit seems to much... On my old Optimus 2x it was at 100mb and on Optimus one on 20 or 50mb.
If this is the case, is there a way to modify this 500mb limit?

then i apologize.
all my other devices it was at 100mb too, except my gnex which is at 300mb. but seriously about lucky patcher, it is probably one of the most susceptible apps for virus attack.
i dont know of any way to change this limit.
i cant get past this limit too, under 500mb it will notify me, cant install apps, but can use that space for other files.

Is there way to remove this limit?
Sorry for digging old'ish topic. Im yet another user that is really annoyed with 500 mb limit.
Seriously I need some fix for that. anything that could work, as far as nandroid is enough to make back secure is acceptable. have xposed and so on.
I found quick workaround for installing apps, which may help, usually works. (a tiny bit, but still something!)
requires root
-get the apk file. I personally use google if aptoide fails (its somewhere in the aptoide files on /storage/emulated/0 or any other internal storage path you have.
-get root explorer or any other file manager that is able to broswe the whole android file system
-go to /data/app/ and drop there your APK file. I personally allways change its name to actual package name but honestly I dont know if thats requirement.
-change permissions to rw-r--r-- (no specials, in numbers 644)
-perform reboot
-your app is installed and ready to use.

Can't root Lg Optimus L3 (and a whole other plethora of problems)

First of all, I'd like to say that I'm making this thread after countless hours of hopeless google search and a very short but rude cal with the LG LatAm support.
I got a second hand LG L3 (e400g) as a gift after my previous phone was stolen, I can't really get anything else due to lack of money so I intend to use this little baby for quite some time.
First of all, I noticed it didn't had WhatsApp, which is crucial for my work, or Facebook or Messenger so I went to get them from the Play Store but it always crashed, I found out the phone had no Google Play services so after getting an apk for that and updating the Play Store and trying to download any application the download always said "pending" and nothing happened so I downloaded an Whatsapp apk and tried to install it, but I found out I only had 5 mb of storage free because Play Store + Play Store services had taken 100mb out of the measly 150 mb the phone comes with (the other 45 being occupied with what I guess are system files and stuff.
Alright, didnd't matter, started to look for some help and found out that by rooting the phone I could install custom play store apks that would most likely work and, more importantly, I could delete bloatware and install apps on the 1gb internal and external memories.
I tried to Install the LG drivers but I couldn't make them work on my PC so rooting at home wasn't an option, called LG to ask for help on how to install that but they told me I was a poorfag for purchasing and old second-hand phone and couldn help me (not their exact words but it surely felt like that).
Tried installing the drivers at work and they worked! So i, very happily, tried to finally root my phone using Spectrum Root but it couldn't work either, so I tried SuperOneClick and it didn't work either. I took some screens but currently I'm at home and I forgot to bring them with me but Spectrum couldn't root anything because it "couldn't create directories" and SuperOneClick just froze on the 7th step of shell root.
What can I do? Anything that doesn't involve getting a new phone because honestly this is the only thing I could afford and I won't be able to change phone for some months so any help would be really appreciated.
TL;DR: Phone can't acces play store, stupidly small storage space and there's no apparent way to root it.

Root the phone with KingoRoot, it worked in my LG Optimus L5 E610/E612(f)...
Install Root Browser or a smaller size root browser app (download through your PC and put it in the phone) and delete some system apps/bloatware and get App2SD to install your apps to SD Card.

I used kingo root and it was a success, however it didn't install any SU terminal or something like that which made me think the root didn't work. I googled some stuff and found out sometimes while it works it doesn't install the SU terminal so I had to get a 3rd party terminall app, i typed "su" and the "$" changed to a "#" which supposedly means it works. I got App2SD but the only apps it shows to transfer to the SD card are the ones I installed manually, none of the bloatware or default ones. And when I tried to use the terminal to set the default install location the SD card (pm setInstallLocation 2) it apparently didn't work because when I pressed enter to input the code the "#" didn't reappeared and the any other code I used later like "date" or "exit" did nothing either.

Use Root Checker Basic to see if you have rooted it successfully!
Use root browser to free some memory by deleting system apps and then get Ext2SD (I think that's the app's name or whatever), it swaps your SD card's memory with your internal memory, so for example, if you have a SD card with 64gb and you swap memories using the app, you'll get 64gb internal memory, google it!

Root checker said yes but I still couldn't use any SU command, so I just did the unthinkable and ran Kingo Root again and it finally worked 100%. But that didn't fixed the whole play store thing so I just flashed the phone and isntalled CM9 and it worked. I can use the play store and download stuff but only the original 2.3.6 one, if I update it it stops working but I don't care and I don't really want to fix that because I may break something else.
Now for the storage, I could finally use App2SD (Which is apparently called Link2SD or something like that because googling App2SD only gave me results of Link2SD) And save a whole lot of space on my phone and could finally install whatsapp and a couple of browsing apps and stuff but I couldn't install for example facebook because, while I could copy like half of the app to the SD I couldn't copy the data folder.
I searched for your app's name in your previous post but It turns out Ext2SD isn't an app but rather something like a partition format so I got a partition app and partitioned half of the Internal SD but it couldn't copy anything there and I couldn't recover the space either so half the internal memory is kinda dead now. Is there any way to fix this and to have some more storage space without breaking the phone?

I don't know... Try searching in the internet or just reflash CM9 and see if the partitions are fixed.
