I Finally Did It! (24 Hour Battery) - Epic 4G General

I have been desperately trying for SEVERAL months to find a way to get my Samsung Epic to last ONE DAY. Many of you might say thats EASY but not for me. You see I am a POWER USER. Not one of those send a few text message, listen to some music, play a game or 2 users. I actually TALK on my phone a LOT.
I purchased a Yoobao 2800 MAH battery a couple months ago, thinking it would solve my problems and to my dismay I could ONLY get about 5-6 hours with the way I use my phone. So I began searching for apps and configurations that would help me achieve my 24 Hour goal and yesterday I finally found a configuration that works.....
My Results
Battery Life 25 Hours which included 4 HOURS OF ACTUAL TALK TIME W/ BLUETOOTH USAGE
Including 3 email accounts (2 Yahoo set to 1 hour check and 1 Corporate "PUSH" email)
A WHOLE GANG Of TEXT AND PICTURE MESSAGES...LOL
What I Have
Samsung Epic w/Yoobao 2800 MAH Battery
Running Stock Rooted EG22 (Leak) and Generation X "Green" theme.
What I used
Set CPU:
Set up profiles for maximum battery save when screen was OFF and when battery went below 30 percent
Juice defender (Free Version)
Tweaked for maximum efficiency using advanced settings
What I did
Themed everything as dark as possible (Go SMS Pro, Go Dialer, Go Contacts)
No Live wallpaper (Ovious...lol)
My Findings:
Contrary to popular belief....Tasks running in the background IS NOT the biggest source of battery drain. HAVING YOUR SCREEN ON IS! I was having NO success with any of the top task killers so I STOPPED USING THEM ALTOGETHER. All they seem to do is run constantly in the background (Even when the screen is off) killing apps that will RESTART themselves anyway after a few seconds. Juice defender works in a different way. By cutting off the data connection when the screen goes dark. That means any time Ii was on a call and the screen was dark, my data was cut off. (I dont usually need it when I am on the phone anyway) During this entire process I had a rather light wallpaper on my phone. so Im sure I could probably have saved a lil more battery if I wanted to.
Hopefully this will help some people get more battery life out of their epics. After all, whats the point in having a great phone if you can only use it (the way it was INTENDED) for a few hours.
Good Day To All!

lolz
im runnin ec05, srf1.2 rom, bright red & black theme(transmattered reds made by me) pulldown animation, stock battery, no memory mods, live wallpaper(my theme is mostly transparent so the live wallpaper is playing almost all the time), play pandora average of 4-5hrs a day, constantly checking fb xda email market(i have 120ish apps lol), & i get about 13hrs a charge...
you should try those changes on srf1.2 rom if you already havent... some people running similar setups have reported 2 full days or more...
but instead of set cpu you should try voltage control

Pretty sure when you get a phone call it shuts off 3G anyways. Atleast whenever My phone rings my 3G symbol vanishes completely.
Congrats on the 25hours though

I dont think thats true... I've been on a call using speakerphone and 4g data at the same time... I think 4g data still works if you are on a call

The key to good battery life is making sure your phone is sleeping properly when not in use. If CPU Spy shows 100Mhz much higher than deep sleep, then you got something that is keeping your phone from sleeping. I had a problem with some HP printer monitor on one of my computers pinging my phone constantly on my wifi network that would kill my battery if I let it sit with wifi on at home.

In the bottom right corner up there 1day 8 hours at 39%. I run srf, genocide, juwe ram tweaks, and set cpu with profiles to run the frequency lower as the day goes on.
Edit: I see now that that is a very ****ty picture. Man I just can't get screenshots right at all..
Cd's or tapes?

Talking on the phone and the 3g network use the same antenna, so you can only do one or the other. 4g and wifi use a different antenna so they will still work for data while on the phone.

Its not the antenna its the chipset. Bluetooth and wifi share the same antenna but both can be used at the same time.

I saw roughly the same thing. Incredible battery life for the first day or two, then it would refuse to charge either of two batteries past 60%.

IS THAT WITH A STOCK BATTERY?!?
Thats unbelievable....

Until the newest RandomRom 2.3 Hawk I had the same problem trying to get my phone to last 24 hours. Now I have the RandomRom 2.3 Hawk installed with bloatware Removed, voodoo sound V9 module loaded, busy box pro and golauncher ex with over 100 apps also. 27 hours and I still have 14% battery life and that has been after using 4g for about 3 hours, flashlight for about 1 hour(teslaLED), played games for about 2 hours combined, sent about 40 emails, texted all day(about 150 texts), browsed the web for about 1 hour, watch some youtube videos for about 30 minutes and used navigation for about 30 minutes(coPilot). That is also with weather bug auto updating every hour and gmail sync'd to do its thing automatically. I am happier than I could ever describe now...I think I will finally leave my phone alone for a while now and stop flashing a million roms since I feel I have the best made for 2.3.4 now.

battery
I get about 18 to 20 hours of normal everyday use out of EG22 but i stay on wifi. on ec05 the most i could get is 6 hours, bottom line no matter what i tried. and thats with a stock battery.

Best rom/kernel battery life combos for hw:0003?

I am using ava z3 and caulkins modded(uv and sdfix) HTC 15 kernel.
I only get about 11-12 hours of battery life with moderate to light usage (20 mins of phone, 25 or so texts and maybe 25 minutes of total web browsing)
I see all these posts of people having battery life lasting 20+ hours...
I have setcpu drop my clock when screen is off, random advanced task killer taps, autosync off, gps off, Bluetooth off, and only use 3g all day. Anyone have any combos that I could try or possibly some tips to get my bat life higher?

No clue, MIUI doesn't give the awake vs. uptime like a sense rom does. It was with moderate use, maybe 30-40 texts, a bit of browsing, maybe 30 minutes of mini squadron and a few short phone calls.
Myn's Warm 2.2 RLS5 with netarchy-4.3.2-cfs-nosbc-havs-more has done wonders for my evo. I use SetCPU and set the govenor to smartass, have one profile for screen off (384max, 128min smartass). I can get about 7 hours of uptime(20 hours of total up time= that averages to 21 minutes of use every hour...) with 1.5 hours of that being phone calls, about 50 texts a day, checking 3 e-mail accounts (gmail's push) and reading my hundreds of RSS feeds with NewsRob.
The only other time i got similar results was with Warm 2.2 RLS4, HTC kernel #17, and some very aggressive SetCPU profiles. and similar usage.

i have a 003 evo and i find myns rls4 & netarchy 4.2.2 less havs/no sbc the best in battery life & speed.
where do u check this 003 thing? and i have miui 1/21 zendroid kernel about 15 hours so far at 72% wifi on all day 50-60 texts and probably an hour of fb hahaha

So the other day i was in this super retardly long useless meeting. Less than 10 texts, no internet, no apps no nothing. 4g, GPS, Wifi & bluetooth all off. Granted that isnt my regular useage (I really use my phone) but this is the best battery life i could get. (SetCpu on w/ a helluva lotta profiles)

3 days??? wait wait...either thats photoshop or you've got a different phone than me!!! In any event im flashing netarchy as soon as i finish typing this!!!
Do you use your phone? Like heavy useage? Or is that 3 days with absolute minamal useage?? 4g, wifi, gps & everything else off??
The question is, what is the definition of best battery life... How long the battery will last with the phone doing nothing? If so, I can get a good 4-5 days using the setup in my sig with just a minimum of texts, calls, and emails, while on wifi.
However, actual practical usage, including 3g, 4g, web, text, calls, etc. Results in a good 1-2 days of battery life. I think once a user has all the bugs (rogue apps that are causing wakelock issues) worked out, that user should focus on optimizing the system for best results for the way THEY use THEIR phone, not the way someone else uses theirs.
^^Agreed i am trying to find the best fit for the way "I" use it however suggestions are welcome. BTW you get 4-5 days 'cause you've got the extended batt. I wanna squeeze every last drop of juice out of my stock battery!! If you can help me there then by all means...please do!!!
Edit: side bar i just flashed netarchy's 4.3.2 cfs-nosbc-havs-more-universal and everythings fine but when i plug my charger in AC or USB it throws my phone into a boot loop....Any ideas?? Btw yes i am gonna find the netarchy thread and ask in there as well.

What's the best way to find the wake lock issues, are you referring to maps, voice, or other random apps running in the background? If so what is the best way to keep these apps but put an end to the wakelock issue.
I am still running ava z3 but I flashed the netarchy 4.3.2 cfs-nosbc-havs-more this morning, downgraded my pri and nv because netarchy said to for battery issues, gave it a full charge from 0, and my battery was garbage... 5-6 hours with a moderate use. Calks modded htc 15 w/ uv and sdfix worked way better, but still can't find these magic 20 hour battery lives that I am dying for.
Reflashed the new pri, nv, and Calks modded 15 and my hunt continues, about to give myns a whirl despite liking ava z3 a lot.
How simple is myns, bloatware gone, fairly simplistic, pretty snappy and lag free? Difference between rl 4 and rl 5?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Use the battery history function in Spareparts to see what's causing wakelock. As for ways of dealing with it, that's up to the developer.
I don't have too many apps on my phone, just the necessities. Of the main apps I use, k9 and handcent both had issues.
With k9, any time I'd receive an email (using imap), the phone would stay wake locked for 60 seconds. This may not seem like a lot, but after getting many messages throughout the day, that could add up to an hour or more. I experienced this both with fresh 3.5.0.1 and evio2 1.75. When Evio2 1.7.7 came out, I was hesitant to switch - I'm not one that flashes roms every other day just for the hell of it. I already had the phone set up and configured. Decided to give it one more shot, I installed 1.7.7 from scratch and started reinstalling apps.
Through out the process, I was very careful to monitor wakelock state. For what ever reason, k9 was no longer causing wake lock. Something in 1.7.7 changed. It wasn't kernel related because I've tried way too many kernels with similar results. So now, the only wake lock is when the program actually receives an email. Usually 1-3 seconds per email received.
Now with handcent, there is a known issue if the popup function is enabled. Anytime a text is received, with popups enabled, the phone enters a wakelock state until that text is acknowledged. This occurs even if the only popup task is to display the text, and NOT turn the screen on, or flash the led. The fix? Disable popups in handcent. I've posted on their forums, but haven't gotten any acknowledgment. I'll continue to use the program, but without this functionality.
For other programs, best bet it to try to narrow down the conditions causing wakelock and either work around them, or work with the author to try to resolve.
Any as for stand by time, I'm sure even with a standard battery, 4 days is possible if the phone is idling the whole time with data turned off, and minimal or no other usage.
As for kernels, there are other factors at play besides the kernel itself. These include the governor in use and its parameters. Two otherwise identical phones with the same kernel and governors, but different governor parameters will result in different battery life.
In the end, I chose to stick with the conservative governor.
These are the governor parameters I changed in the init.d folder
Filename: 01cpufreq_screenstate_scaling
Code:
MAX_CPU_SPEED_VDD="921600"
MIN_CPU_SPEED_VDD="245000"
#MIN_CPU_SPEED_VDD="384000" DEFAULT
#MAX_CPU_SPEED_VDD="921600" DEFAULT
CONSERVATIVE_SAMPLING_RATE="50000"
CONSERVATIVE_UP_THRESHOLD="80"
CONSERVATIVE_DOWN_THRESHOLD="55"
CONSERVATIVE_FREQ_STEP="10"
#CONSERVATIVE_UP_THRESHOLD="65" DEFAULT
#CONSERVATIVE_DOWN_THRESHOLD="35" DEFAULT
#CONSERVATIVE_FREQ_STEP="15" DEFAULT
These settings were not arrived at trivially, but were changed slightly one at a time, then tested by using the phone. I was looking for decent response/user experience. I was also trying to get the phone to utilize a larger range of cpu speeds than originally programmed into the ROM/kernel. Google the different parameters to understand what they're referring to.
Edit: I'm also using the -100mV undervolt script as opposed to -50mV that the rom originally comes with.

Battery Life Thread!

Hey guys. Battery life honestly, is the most important thing when owning a smartphone. Everyone gets different battery life apparently. Some are great!! Some are.. well..
Anyways, my whole point of making this thread is so that we can discuss our various battery lifes. See who has the best. Who has the worst. And why we have such differences! Maybe we can make solutions and we can all have great battery life.
Please include what ROM your running, what kernel, if your overclocked, and little things you might find suitable to add.
For example this is for me:
I'm running Acer liquid ROM 1.1 with pershoots latest .32 kernel. I can get maybe 8 hours out of my battery with extreme mild use. I'm currently trying to recalibrate my battery with the help of bongz ( thank you so much!) I have my screen usually dim, nothing syncing from what I know of, bluetooth never on, gps never on, wifi only at home.
Sent from my Rooted God-like HTC Vision running Liquid Metal.
I'm running GingerVillan 1.5.
Battery life on standby is great - probably around 1-2% an hour. However, when I start using the phone, that drains QUICK. Generally I get around 12-14 hours out of a full charge with mild usage, including Phone Calls, Texts, 1-2 rounds of Words with friends, etc. WiFi is always off, bluetooth is off, GPS on. Stock kernel, newest radio near as I remember. Facebook and Google are the only two accounts.
I previously had a Vibrant that seemingly got better life - with mild use I could easily get 18-20 hours. However, having a keyboard and working GPS is worth the charge every night. The G2 could have gotten a couple hundred more mAh battery, if you ask me.
im running cm7 nightlies
my battery life is pretty good when not on. maybe 1% every 2-3 hours when off and in my pocket(set to absolute minimum via setcpu). with mild to extreme use i get ok battery life of about 4 hrs (starting at 80% usualy). im overcloacked to 1.8ghz ut have it set via setcpu to max out at 1.1ghz. i have gps always off, wifi always off, brighness to auto, and bluetooth off.

Hey,
I think there are too many variables at play here for this to be any use, but here is what I am running.
ROM: Virtuous 1.0.1, OCed to 1GHz using Virtuous Standard 2.1.2 Kernel
Radio: 12.18b.60.140eP_26.03.02.26_M
Build: 1.85
Brightness: Auto
Sync: Google, Facebook, Weather
Wifi: On at home, school; Off all other times
BT: OFF
Data: Always ON
Usage per day: 50-100 texts, 3-5 voice calls, 1-3hours of data/games
Current battery level including standby time and usage time is 57% after 6h 50m.
Good luck on the analysis!

Sorry, but battery life threads/posts are always such a joke. So many things effect the battery life that it really isn't as easy as just posting your ROM and Kernel and call it a day. Every single setting in your settings menu, every app you run or have installed, screen on/awake time, BT/GPS/wifi/3g/4g connections, and even just general areas that you use your phone pertaining to their signal strength can effect what your battery life is. Unfortunately, there really is no way to figure out what the "best" battery lives are. It really takes your personal preferences and some of your own tinkering in order to get your configuration just right. You can go into any given custom ROM thread and find someone claiming 30hrs of battery life.
Sorry to be a downer. I (personally) just get really tired of people posting battery life screen shots because there are an extreme number of variables that affect it. I think it gives people false hope of looking to switch to a completely new ROM or change huge numbers of things and expecting to double their battery life.

It's that Hutch one from Australia or something. This one here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=959488
I just noticed that the battery life of my DesireZ is greatly dependant on where I am.... I have vacation now and I was mostly at home for the past three days the battery was still about 40% charged this morning so after 2 full days with moderate use, reading an Ebook, playing a game, wifi constantly on, exchange mail on Push and Gmail on push, with standard rom.
when I am at school the battery is often almost empty at about 5 pm...
maybe because of the bad coverage at school?
I don't know if anyone else really noticed, I seen it mentioned in another thread but not enough, if you don't use the wifi calling app, DELETE IT! I have noticed much better performance and battery life after getting of that ****

Can some one tell me their usage with 4g on all day and moderate use?
Ive begun to get lazy turning 4g off so lately im getting 10-14 hours usage before the battery is dead not using wifi at all ( work days no wifi at work). moderate use maybe 20 mins calling 20-30 text up to 45 min facebooking. nothing too much,
On nightly #29 no pershoot since i am lazy to update to newest nightly and newest pershoot only works after #30 and overclocked to 1.2ghz
I still don't get why people care about battery so much with g2. I got 2 extra battery and an external wall charger all for 10 bucks on ebay. why not use android to its full potential without ever worrying about battery for $10?

It's a hassle to take off the case (in my case an Otterbox) every time to swap the battery out. Added with the looser hinge, you might accidentally snap something that you don't want to. Would rather have one big battery than multiple smaller ones.
Understood. I don't ever use protection covers. Didnt even know tHere are the kind of cases not interfering with keyboard pullout...

I want the Mugen battery, my G2 has been quite crap battery life for the past while, I wonder how much this one will help
No complaints here.
Just thought I would throw down my stats as well:
I can usually eke out a good two or three days from my G2. Some things of note: I'm on Wi-Fi with UMA at home, T-Mobile's home network (EDGE) when I'm in the town in which I live, but as soon as I leave town and head towards my place of work, I roam on EDGE all night (with roaming data always turned on) until I get back home. I don't think I've even seen the 3G or H indicators light up on this thing. Got to love the rural life. I leave Wi-Fi always on, in case I find new networks, I leave GPS always enabled, since it really only activates on Google's home page anyways, I use the 30% brightness setting that is the default 'low' setting via the HTC brightness widget, and Auto-Sync is always enabled (Facebook, HTC (weather once per hour), Google). I use the default 1 minute screen timeout, and I use the lockscreen that comes with Poweramp (which I use to listen to music on my drive to and from work via an FM transmitter.)
The capture below shows 2d 14h 2m 30s since being unplugged, at 7% remaining. I use Virtuous 1.0.1 with the stock HTC kernel and the stock T-MoUS radio. I am also using the stock HTC battery that the phone shipped with. I don't feel the need to overclock, as my last phone was a BB Pearl, so this thing is light years faster already.
The only time I really eat up my battery is when I play Wordsmith, because I'm always staring at the lit screen trying to make fancy words.
And while you're right, there are way too many variables when it comes to battery life and usage and signal strength and what have you, it amazes me just the same that others are fine with 8 hours of battery life and choose to carry around extra batteries. Sure, you have a mobile Linux box in your pocket (awesome!), but that's also why I keep a desktop PC at home. To each their own, though, no harm no foul.

Best battery life ROM

Hi all,
I absolutely need a ROM to survive about 16 hours, whit medium level of usage: 2 or 3 short calls, 3g always on, intensive gmail usage, Twitter and browser often open... and maybe some light game during a flight...
Witch ROM do you suggest?
Can I survive?
Thanks!

Sounds like what you need is an extended/extra battery.
I avg ~16-18 hours per day with usage similar to yours BUT the places I spend the most time (work and home) I'm connected to WIFI. When you say 3G always on, you mean you'll never be on wifi or just never changing the setting to use 2G? I NEVER turn my 3G off. I'm using Cyanogenmod7 BTW (nightly #21). Nightly build #13 had the best battery life of all the Roms I've run so far....
I can't use WiFi... maybe I could switch to 2g only, when I don't really need 3g... cm7 was horrible about battery live starting from the 2.3.3 version, but I haven't tried last nightly build...
also MIUI seems to be good, what do you think?

for me, the best in this...... SuperAOSP...
i never get more than 6-8 hours of battery, dunno how some of you are claiming 16 hours. maybe on standby

Hit 50% right at the 12 hour mark. I routinely get 16 hours. I check fb, twitter, send texts, browse forums and talk. Hopping on wifi def helps. I never get any less than 12 hours, even with CONSTANT use
When you don't you the phone, Use a widget to turn off data connection. Also GPS. Buy an extended battery that is the same size of the n1. Cm7 seems to be pretty good for me right now. Rc2 version not night lies.

Give MIUI a chance. Either from RoDrIgUeZsTyLe or the vanilla miui here: http://miui-dev.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?15-Google-Nexus-One
Personally, battery is not the only reason I've stuck with miui for a couple of months now. Overall I find it very stable and other features like the nice notification bar etc. keep me from moving to other roms. The only thing I hate about miui is the whole iphone like default launcher but that is easily fixed by using launcherpro or adw
I can easily get 16 hours out of MIUI. Usually at the end of day I have around 25% to 35% left. I am running version 1.3.11 at this time. Soon to be upgrading to 1.3.18 as soon as the language pack comes out!
Meh, ok on the stock, rooted 2.3.3 ROM and im getting amazing speeds.
I think it would be easier to spend 20 bucks to get an extra battery than to flash a whole new rom though.

I got an extra battery from HTC because my other one didn't seem to last very long. They sent it to me for free since the phone was still under warranty. Changing batteries isn't such a big deal, but managing to charge the two of them is kind of a balancing act. Charge one at night, then swap them in the morning and charge the other one in the morning. use it during the day swap in the evening and start over again. lol. Personally I'd rather find a ROM and excellent use of SetCPU and power manager to get the most battery life out of one battery.
I'm now using nightly builds of cm7 with redstars latest kernel and I finally have a good combo, good battery life and no problems, though I haven't tried without dewonkficator.

I'm testing MIUI right now and it seems very well: today i had medium/low usage and I'm on 14 hours and still 26% left. Tomorrow I'll test more intensive but it seems that Miui is the best choice!

this sounds insane to me...
on that same image click on "display"... how long did it was active??
I cannot have it last any longer then 3 and half an hour of active display (that value can be seen by clicking on "display"...)

On that day, I was at 2 hr & 17 mins of 'active' display at the time. I avg about 2 1/2 hours of "screen on" time each day.
I too will say I get a constant 12hours to 50% mark on a regular day. MIUI and CM7 latest.
Although, I saw Wildmonk came back to the scene and am testing his latest cm7 kernel mod on #25, and my goodness. Yesterday seemed average. But today, Going 9 hours unplugged and only went down 20%. Hoping this isn't a fluke. Will need another day or 2 to truly tell.
If anyone else is wondering, try wildmonk. I'd like to know what other's find.
( control your background syncs! They are battery hungry by default sometimes)
I just hit 15 hours use with 4 hours and 35 minutes display-on time. But 8 hours of that was me sleeping. And this all was on WiFi which makes an enormous difference.
Typically I get 2.5 hours of display time a day.
Running cyan 6.1.
I used to have a 16 - 20 hours per day using MM CM7 ROM (with WildMonks Kernel),
But sadly there is one problem with the ROM (Facebook update) and MM left us for another phone
Right now, I'm gonna try SuperAOSP and PureGoogleMod to test the battery life
Here's my batt info
I've been messing around with fitsnugly's CM7 build and different kernels. I took this one just some hours ago using latest redstar OC 1152 kernel; I never run it that high on normal usage, though. More than 24h's of battery . It's pretty good, ~ 1% or less drain in idle and overall good when watching videos, etc. I just created this account to share the info, I mostly just read and browse (I can't post links yet ), so the img address is imgur.com/nTfqz

Battery love (life) on VillainRom 1.4.0

So i'll cut to the chase, Battery has been ok with stock rom, after freezing the **** out of some apps, BUT, with VillainRom the phone is working perfect + battery life is amazing.
What is amazing?
53 Hours and 30 minutes since full charge.
I did charge it in the car for very short periods while using GPS and screen on full brightness.
How was the phone configured?
- Wifi/3G Data on at all times
- Push GMAIL and What'sapp
- Screen Brightness on full and the "Adjust screen power" option ticket off.
- Lookout installed and running in background.
- Bluetooth always on, not always connected though.
- 3 Hours of display usage
- 1.5 Hours of calls
- Some gaming, browsing etc.
Don't believe me?
Here are screenshots!

Anyway still don't understand what's good about this battery stats ...
@sumeshd,
You know, I don't get money from Samsung or anyone else for posting this? Why would I lie? Anyway, believe what you what, I really don't care that much.
I'll just say again, brightness is @ FULL.
3 Hours, is not ONLY, that's my usage, and you don't have to like it or not.
@bilboa1,
If I wanted, I can charge the phone almost 24/7 I got a charger my car, at home, at work, and even a portable solar one.
The charging peaks you see are mainly USB file transfers for a few minutes, and the long ones are around 30 minutes while driving with GPS + Screen at full brightness.
So the consumption on those moments is rather high, which means the battery isn't charging all that much.
@Mittaa,
You take a 4.3" Smartphone that does everything, and get 53 hours out of it, it's not enough??
if the little charging peaks were not there i'd still get around 46 hours from the phone, is that not enough???
Anyway the information I posted was to help people who are trying to choose a ROM, chose this one, or other people who are having battery problems have a reference.
eitama dont bother posting let this thread die please .
Two reasons one you will find certain users insist you have poor gps yellow screen bad battery life etc . Not worth bothering with if you are happy with your phone .
Reason two is a bit selfish as posting VR great battery life means we are going to get hundreds of numptys posting in VR rom thread who wont read and cannot follow instructions .

Nice to hear that your happy with your phone ... i'm happy too
I also understand that this is way better than your old desire HD (same for me moving from my old HTC Touch HD)
But I can't understand what this have to do with "whatever Vanilla Rom" ...
Lots of people can get this kind of battery live using stock unmodified, non rooted SGS2!
It could be very usefull if someone made a exact compare between two SGS2 running different ROMs.
First same configuration (screen brightness, auto update, widgets etc) then full charge.
Then 15 min GPS (same route), 15 min browsing WIFI (same websites), 15 min gaming (same game), 15 min talking (same person (sorry bad joke)).
Al together 1 hour of heavy identical usage.
Finally screenshots of battery stats and post here on XDA so we all can clap our hands for the best bettery saving ROM of the week
Well I tried to drain the battery on vr playing games etc to calibrate, and struggled, like noonski did.
I could drain stock rom with ease, but can't do it nearly as easily on vr.
The general consensus from reliable members like nobnut and jje seems to concur with it being better

well as I said I have tried all the roms..
I have tried vr4..for many days..it gave me 9+ hrs..
good u r supporting vr but not good that u r filling threads with "anything"
this is my battery with batista70 rom..and I m happiest with it..
PS: note the screen wake time bfor commenting..(its awake most of the time bcoz my heavy txting and use)..
and I am on 3g/h network with data active all the time..
this is the best I could get till now(with my usage)
no hard feelings..
People seem to be getting time between charges that vary wildly, but for me the biggest indication of battery life is obviously 'display on' time, and this seems to be roughly the same for the vast majority. Best I've seen so far is 4 hours, and that was mainly 3G/HSPDA browsing. My most recent however was slightly over 2 hours with VR 1.4, and again that was mainly browsing with data.
So while a screenie showing over 2 days may look impressive, it's how much actual use the user got that's important. The post above that showed over 6 hours was certainly impressive, but how much 3G browsing was done? How many 3D games played? GPS? etc etc
<shamed> - sorry for long post!!!
@ OP - you had a few minutes under 3hrs of charging. That is in excess of a full charge of the battery! And a total screen of a a few hours.. Nothing impressive at all. Saying you had on GPS and screen on full brightness negates the charging is just silly. It is usage, and usage is what we're interested in.
@ mittaa + Zedwings: Completely agree with both. Even display on (IMO the most accurate comparison) is a long way from the full truth for comparison in testing and a very fixed test environment would be needed to test a pattern of usage. I started to think about this like mitaa suggests (and when you do, you realise it is virtually impossible to co-ordinate without resetting back to factory) and there are still variables.
And anyway, it's kind of irrelevant at that point. You wouldn't consider doing it unless you're battery life is not meeting your hopes or needs. but your usage is your usage and you'll be happy or not.
Unless you are prepared to compromise on screen time, game playing, widgets, sync settings, live wallpaper etc, then what does it matter? You must find the balance between battery life and customisation that YOU can live with.
Personally, I do this by running my phone in 'full fat' mode. All radios on (this inc. GPS), synch on full, screen set to about 75% (no auto), the widgets I want, high spec live wallpaper (like Galaxies!) that make my £500 phone look like a £500 phone. I settle into my daily usage pattern, charging whenever I need to charge. This is why I bought my phone, not to immediately turn everything off and play the 'longest, littlest' game!
After about two weeks and this has settled into a fairly regular pattern, I start to switch off the things that mean least to me, one by one, day by day until after a numbers of days I find the balance that I can live with.
Personally I start with turning into perm 2G mode as I have wi-fi almost everywhere I go and I live in an area where 2G and 3G is on the cusp. This is extremely draining to batteries (I deal with none phone GSM equipment every day where battery life is key) and I know signal stregnth on the band you're using, constantly cylcing between band (and the variance in antenna power) is the single biggest thing to affect battery life asside from screen. It may not reflect this in stats, but trust me on this... If I lived and worked in a strong signal area, it would drop a few places down the list, extra call quality is nice as well as data.
For those of you living and working in London for example, but mostly out and away from Wi-fi, then consider leaving 3G on, and turning Wi-fi off.
Wi-fi scanning for networks constantly is another big drain.I have noticed this about Android, it allows you background apps to work leaner than the iPhone in power consumption when you have lots of widgets and synch etc. However the iPhone actually uses GSM to perform background tasks when the phone is off (shutting down wi-fi radio which reconnects as soon as you unlock the screen). This means that if you're out and away from a friendly hotspot all day, battery is less affected than an android.
Anyway, sorry for the long post, but hope you all have luck in finding your 'sweet spot' in usage / customisation.

Tegrak's kernel and underclocked.
Frozen samsung apps. and brightness mostly 0% as i am fairly fine with the lowest brightness it doesn't hurt my eyes.
also one more thing, i am using overclocking upto 1300 as well and you will be surprised most people will tell you to go underclock to save battery but i didn't and i am just happy with 1.3 Ghz blazing speed.

Also i used camera for recording movie for about 50 minutes in 720P and 50+ photographs as well which is not mentioned in the above post. I will post once again when my battery will reach 1% because when its below 10% it drops really slow and allows me to use it more unlike when its full.
Sit it on a desk and stare at it. The average screen on time is 5 hrs. You can use that in a day or spread it across 3 days.

One more thing, i only recharge battery when its below 5% or mostly under 2% to full turning it off. And ofcourse this only first week of using the phone, hope it will increase a bit more by next week.
[Note: I personally believe plugging in and out of charger makes the phone battery drop faster]

Bluetooth yes for 10 minutes transfering some files.
Gps yes for around 1 hour (you can see that in pics atleast it shows usage for ndrive there)
wifi yes around 1 hour but its always on mostly (mostly used for market to download and test applications, gmailing and also some browsing)
3g or edge no i didn't use it.
Games yes i played like drag race etc.
widget yes, battery widget and the running app widget and live wallpapers.
Mine, I think there's a little (big) problem :
Considering the first 8 hours were during the night so I didn't touch my phone :
Running on VR2.1, many things push or so (like 15/30mins refresh) [mails, fb, twitter, news, weather, etc], and good modem (KG2) and CF-Root 4.1.
Any idea/advice please ?
A better rom maybe ?
Thanks in avance

Sit it on a desk and stare at it. The average screen on time is 5 hrs. You can use that in a day or spread it across 3 days.

The real secret to great battery life is to disable all the data connections and not use the phone. Since most people are pretty active with their phones, threads about stand-by time are pretty meaningless. Actually, with over a dozen battery life threads already running, you could say new battery life thread are pretty meaningless too.

For those of us n00bs here, what or where is the IMEI number?
Also just to clarify, this is a unique number for each phone, yes?

Individual to eachphone usedto identify phone on network.Blocked block after theft .Illegal to change. jje
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
Ok thats along the lines of what I thought it was. Thanks.
Didn't know it was possible to change it, illigal. Huh
But can some one tell me where it is shown so I can block it if I ever post some screen shots?
I'm on stock K2-CL. I used 3G just a bit today while in a restaurant, wifi is always on, but I normally sit in front of the computer most of the day, or use my tablet at home, so I do very light surfing - mostly while on the can.
I've not installed "app freezers", nor underclocked the processor, nor rooted or removed anything that isn't stock android. Not stopping tasks in the task manager. In the screenshot below, I did play around a bit on Google Earth for 15 min or so, I'm surprised not to see the android market in there because I feel that's what I used most. I use a live wallpaper that's fairly bright (moving clouds).
Brightness on auto - automatic gmail notifications, contact syncs etc.
I'm going to go on a big trip next week, where electricity will sometimes be optional. I do have that Samsung battery case thinggie coming the mail next week - and already have an external battery as well for emergencies, because this phone will die in an hour or two using the gps, or playing games, or doing serious web surfing - or a combination of those things. It runs very hot too if you use it constantly several hours (drove 500 kilometers last week, the phone was very very hot - seemed unhealthy).
If you hold the power button along with the home button it takes a screen shot.
Thought id say to make it easier for ya in future!
thanks a millions
Don't mind the n00b Here.
Found the IMEI number in the status tab of about phone.
Goto remember to keep this out of public photos.
