WARNING, dont install 2424.11.6.1 - Omnia 7 General

Hi from Sweden.
We over here have after a lot of nagging recived a radio firmware update. We was forced to send in our phones so hip hurra. I miss hTC atm.
Well we have now started to recive our phones from Samsung and it's a huge fail.
Our calling problem seems to be fully cured. But we have now more problems before the patch.
- We don't recive our SMS. May take days, if ever. After a call with the operator they said that the sms is on hold. Probably because memory is full. After i deleted all my SMS i started to recive the last days of messages.
- Net switches non logical between 3G and 3G+ and Edge, even if there is full 3G connection.
- Live services have stopped working. When i tryed to sync my OneNote documents i got "Cant sync atm because there is no internet connection" Couln't almost sync my contacts. Only way to accsess Marketplace and XBox live is through WiFi. You won't even be able to download upgrades.
So my advice if you see the new radio firmware, DONT install because your phone cant really use internet. Mail and IE is the only thing working.
Here is how my current numbers:
O/S: 7.0.7392.0
Firmware: 2424.11.4.1
Hardware: 3.15.0.4
Radio Software: 2424.11.6.1
Radio Hardware: 0.0.0.800
Bootloader: 5.4.1.4
EDIT:
O, almost forgott..
PDA: I8700XXKD1
PHONE: I8700XXKF1
CSC: I8700NEEKD1

That sucks :-(
I don't know what the deal is with samsucks software engs? Its like they have really good hardware engs but on the software side of the house they are not on the same level. In the U.S. all the SGS phones had a lot of sofeware problems. Gps would not lock to < 30M then when they fixed that they broke the camra.
Sent from the Drivers Seat of my Suby txting and Driving doing 100MPH+ in a school zone! Ha.

Aha, now when you mention it. GPS is weaker and couldnt even find the adresses i used to use. Turn by Turn, MS Maps, Silver Navigator. I own the 2 of em as paid apps.
Samsung need to fix there routines. Its a mess, and there bad att informing there customer service witch ends up giving diffrent info.
Samsung is atm loosing big time in Sweden. A lot of customers have been loyal on buying only there products. But there abandoning the manufacturer. Seems also Galaxy SII have had simmular issues, they recived a patch some time ago, but dont know if that did it. Dont wanna know, its just sad seeing great hardware like the Omnia 7 is being wasted and thrown in the dirt. I used benchmarks vs Optimus 7, a great phone with zero problems, and in hardware speed, Omnia 7 is kicking ass ... until it benches internet...

The GPS has always been crap on my Omnia 7 regardless of firmware.
Very rarely gets my location closer than 15m. My old HTC Touch HD's GPS was much better

Im satisfied with the GPS as it where. It never faild me. But now! Its terrible

You managed to flash the ENGINEER ROM onto your phone?

Nope, like i said above. Samsung did it for me. Dont like flashing my device any longer.
This warning is intended to thous who finally can get there hands on this firmware and curious to install it. Anything new that comes out everybody wants to try right? So, its a warning, maybe will work for sombody, but currently people in Sweden is dropping in reporting these problems in a steady pace. Where not that many that still left, but some peeps like me dream and hope, and are trying to stay to finally get the phone we bought initally.

Oh gotcha, now I understand the beginning, thanks

Hey guys,
Its a great Sunday afternoon on here, dont spoil it by flaming each other please!
Keep it concise, on topic and respect each other.
Thread cleaned.

I just got finally put on TomTom 7. Damn what an improvement. Worked out the bugs and the POI's are much better. But it also takes up 1.8 gb. Well worth it though.
Issue with Amaze
I would just like to say to anybody who installs this software must have gps/compatible rom and have quick gps installed. It works directly with quick gps for the agps feature. So if it says 'connection problem' then check to make sure quick gps is installed.
It worked fine for me and I don't have QuickGPS installed. I do have the aGPS enabled tho, so I get 10-15 second locks.
BTC
So far
I would have to say that it is no TT7 killer... not really close.
BUT!!!
A VERY nice app ESPECIALLY considering the price. If you are to factor in the price then it just might be competing with any software.
Not as intuitive/predictable as TT nor does it have the bells and whistles of predictive input and such nor is the GUI as well laid out... but again... my earlier statement stands

Quick gps
I don't know how to respond to that only that when I removed quick gps amaze stopped functioning, when I reinstalled it went right back to working. I get a lock on average in 3 seconds, never more than 5. Maybe it has something to do with St. Pete, I don't know. But I try to confuse it and start it in random places and it doesn't seem to phase it. Google maps takes always less than 10 seconds. Hey for those who are downloading amaze check out the hybrid feature, and then put the 3d map on. It is trippy having the sattellte images to drive through!!!
Apparently Hybrid maps aren't available everywhere, I live in a small town in SE Iowa and no satellite or hybrid maps show up.
But the normal maps are fine with me for now. Tho I only have 1X data, so I can't really use a GPS tool that relys on data as nobody can call me when I'm using it.
So TomTom and Igo still are my preferred tools. But this one is definately cool and I'll probably use it late at night or when I don't want to be disturbed.
BTC
Solution
Here's what you do: come down here to tampa where the water is fine, the *****es are finer, and the amaze gps thrives and you can drive through a 3 dimensional satallite enhanced map.
P.S. I use call firewall when using gps. No body is that important to interupt my data connection.
This program is pretty good for a freebie.
Really Nice!!
can't believe its free cause it works...
I am runnng the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=424387 and amAze runs great.. drove to work with it, intentionally took different roads and it adapted pretty quick..
thanks for the great find..........
Can't really argue with a free gps program and i also am running it really well without quick gps installed.
Free?
Can you be sure? How do the people who developed it recover their investment? Is there any way to be certain that you won't be sending any information from your phone that could cause trouble for you later on?
I get suspicious when someone offers something for free that everyone else is charging (close to three figures) for their similar product. If the method they make money from were more obvious, then I would feel a little more confidant that I would not be sorry later on, because they would be jeopardizing an income stream and a possibly successful business if they were somehow found to be "cheating".
It's documented on their website that they recoup their investment through built-in, targeted advertising. This feature is not yet implemented in the Windows Mobile version, but is quite active in the Java based versions of the app that have been around for about a year.

Quite the newb here. I'm running Amaze GPS on my HTC Raphael (ATT Fuze). Too cheap to buy data plan. I flashed to NATFv4, trying to (may not be doing it correctly) use GPS Tool to get a fix, but it seems to be looping infinitely. Consequently, I can't get Amaze to work. Any help appreciated.
Sorry to dissapoint
Amaze is a strictly internet map driven navigation software. No data plan no gps. Invest in IGo or garmin.

No more BR roms - I sold my iPAQ

Hey people,
Yesterday I got fed up with my iPAQ 910c, put it on craigslist and sold it for not much less than what I originally paid for it.
Mainly, the lack of Cell-ID support from HP was really annoying: all kinds of times when I wanted a quick sense of where I was from Google Maps, I'd have to wait a long time for a GPS fix and make sure I held the phone out with a clear view of the sky. Not exactly convenient. And even though Rogers is selling the iPAQ 910c on contract, HP hasn't provided an rilgsm.dll with Name Display (CNAP) support. Stupid.
That, and WM6.5 brings with it (in my opinion) features that really prefer a higher-res screen. And a directional control more advanced than a scroll wheel. And a light sensor to automatically adjust brightness (as opposed to me having the 61x/91x brightness control on hotkey, lol). And more speed.
...so I'm getting an Xperia X1.
It was fun cooking with y'all, and so I leave you in the capable hands of monte & keyx. Adios amigos!
Wow!
Sorry to lose your development skills on the 910 - I always enjoyed your ROMs.
Happy trails!
many thanks to you..
i'm still running your WM6.5 on my ipaq.
but, i'm also wondering to replacing my ipaq with xperia. how does xperia compared to ipaq 912, i just want to know from your point of view.
thx
So far it is awesome - the 800x480 screen is amazing with WM6.5, and the device seems to get both better speed and battery life than the iPAQ. That, plus the Xperia has just enough less width than the iPAQ for me to wrap my hand around when I'm carrying it, running, etc. Not only does Cell-ID provide instant estimates of my location in Google Maps (which itself looks amazing at WVGA), but GPS fix seems to take a fraction of the time it did on the iPAQ.
I can't do one-handed QWERTY typing as quickly or easily as with the iPAQ, but with two hands I don't notice much difference. The screen doesn't pick up nearly as many fingerprint smudges as my iPAQ did. And the optical trackball functions more like the little "pearl" on Blackberries, something HP should have put in the middle of that giant D-PAD.
But basically the screen is the biggest improvement: I went from seeing like 3 titanium homescreen entries on the ipaq (with WM6.5) to now seeing all of them at once. That's huge. I nearly broke even on the upgrade too - bought the iPAQ on eBay this January for like $240, sold for $200 on craigslist, and just got the Xperia from Rogers on a 3-year contract for $225.
Thankfully, there is a large ROM cooking community already in place for the Xperia, so that takes some of the pressure off. My understanding is that cooking for the HP devices is relatively easy once the tools exist; the SD-Loader isn't checking for signed ROM images so no low-level device unlocking is required. HTC phones are a different story - even the ones sold "SIM unlocked" still come with a bootloader that won't accept custom ROMs, and certain XDA gurus have to make a "HardSPL" modified bootloader before custom ROMs can be flashed. Case in point: the poor suckers with the Palm Treo Pro are still without any custom ROMs whatsoever, because the phone isn't quite popular enough to have reached somebody who can make a HardSPL (they're working on that).
Once a HardSPL exists, though, HTC ROM development tends to explode because they keep using the same underlying hardware. Thus the Xperia light sensor is the same as the one on the Touch Diamond and Touch Pro; the radio hardware is interchangeable with those phones too. Moral of the story: check out the state of ROM development before you buy.
soory 2 hear u are out of ipaq roms u had good ones
anyway good luck with your new device and try 2 keep a look 4 plastic cracks
i 4 myself like the front KB like the 6900 900 i780...
i had the ipaq 800 (data messenger) with light sensor dpad sensor very fast gps...(device generl speed slower then the 900 and have no SR )
had some htc devices with sliding hard KB but on such devices i found myself using software KB (if u sms or need somthing short u will see it 2)
the screen must be a great thing
enjoy and tnx 4 all
Good look with the new toy.
Noooooooo....how dare you betray us front facing keyboard lovers!!!
It was good having your roms and knowledge...best of luck with the Xperia!!
I'm currently waiting for a replacement 910c from Rogers right now...my USB connector stopped working Maybe I'll just replace my phone altogether...but...I must have WM, front facing keyboard, gps, wifi, and 7.2mbps dl speed
We'll see what comes out...Samsung looks like it might have a good rival
Again, many thanks and good luck!
Well, congrats on the "upgrade" - I thought someone on Rogers would for sure go for a quad-band phone, but maybe the tri-band will work well enough for you where you are.
By the way - the "cell ID" thing is being worked on, and I thought I had a quick solution involving "cell broadcast" settings in the registry. It's probably only weeks away from being fixed. Keep checking back to see if we get it right.

lol I'm in downtown Toronto, but the Xperia is actually quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900) and tri-band UMTS (850/1900/2100). Which is exactly the same as the iPAQ.
I wish you the best of luck getting the Cell-ID thing working. I'm mostly just pissed that after all this time Inventec hasn't made a few simple changes to their radio firmware, and HP has the nerve to blame the network carrier in their documentation!
Anyway EREZYAD is right, these past few days my text entry has been split about 50-50 between the software keyboard in portrait mode and the hardware keyboard in landscape. Neither are quite as good as the iPAQ 910c, but the combination is sufficient.
so long benjaminries, never used your rom's but always sad to lose a chef

This is corroborated by other apps like Navizon that also don't work on the HP 91x/61x.
Basically, the RIL interface specified by Microsoft has several API functions that apps are supposed to be able to call which should return an ID code that identifies the cell tower to which the phone is currently connected. As far as I can tell, the OEM (HP) is supposed to adapt firmware and corresponding WinMo driver files like rilgsm.dll from the radio manufacturer (Qualcomm) to meet Microsoft's specification; however some OEMs like HP "choose" not to implement these APIs such that requests by apps for the Cell ID return a constant error code.
There appear to be two alternative methods of retrieving the cell ID that might have given us hope for HP: (1) broadcast channels and (2) serial requests. But the first option is unhelpful in North America where GSM carriers don't use broadcast channels, and the second option (when I tested it) didn't seem to work either - basically there are a number of direct modem commands that can be sent over COM ports to ask for the cell ID. The results of my testing suggested that the problem lies, at least in part, within the radio firmware itself - perhaps provided to HP by their main manufacturer, Inventec.
To me, the fact that HP/Inventec didn't fix these problems - despite mass outcry by users - suggests that while HP is still patching up what they can on the software side (releasing ROM updates for keyboard and sound issues), whoever created the radio firmware (Inventec?) has sort of walked away, or at least has no stake in keeping existing customers happy.
What the xda-developers community knows about and is able to do with actual HTC hardware, by comparison, is huge...
You did the best bro. It is nearly 2010 and I believe that any other phone after that time should have a BIG scren.

Trouble with signal/Service

Hi,
First of all, I've been reading on these forums for MONTHS and have enjoyed ALOT of great information and software from the people in here. Unfortunatively I have not had much to contribute with, so I skipped the part of registering a user..
So, thanks you all the great stuff, keep it coming!
Now over to my big problem, that I really hope you guys (and girls?) may help out with..
First a bit of story (if you're not bothered, skip this part!).
I went to Miami, FL in February - and my phone back then, iPhone 3G worked flawlessly before and during the trip. Then, 3 days after I came back home it started pulling jokes on me, not connecting to the network etc.. So I get a replacement.. Then, the next time I went over, with a Nokia E63, I bought a T-mobile G1 that I unlocked and got working when I got back home to Norway. 3 days after I came back home the Nokia said no thanks and stopped functioning in the same way as the iPhone. Well, I had the G1, so I just used that one.
Well, I went to the states again, this time to California, Arizona and Nevada with my G1 as travel buddy! It has worked flawlessly all the time before and during the trip, but 3 days after I came home it stopped functioning. I get the "No Service" message with different SIM cards, it doesn't show me that hardware IDs of bluetooth and WiFi (Same as on the iPhone). But WiFi and bluetooth still works - its just the regular GSM/3G network part that doesnt work...
Well, to hell with it - I reflashed the thing with the newest radio and the newest custom ADP software (dont remember which custom one), and it is still not working quite well. No network at all!
I can post a bit more details about firmware and baseband/modem software later on when I get back home and can check out the phone - but it is really frustrating! Right now I got a Nokia E71 off work to use - but after a couple of days I really miss the Android!
I am pretty sure this is a SW issue, as the phone has been taken really good care of, never been dropped or in wet weather..
Any help, tips and hint will be GREATLY appreciated.

did u reconfigure your apns whenever u switched sim cards?
Same provider, different SIM cards and numbers, so shouldn't need to do that..
find out which ROM you're using. also double check which radio you have, cupcake builds tend to use the radio ending in .26I, there are some donut builds having a few issues with the radio, but these should be fixed soon. also even if you're using the same network, for example t-mobile, sim card regions can make a difference to the APN settings. such as a UK sim uses settings specific to the UK, while US sim would use US settings. normally this isn't much of a problem, but the developer of your rom may have missed out the APN list so you would have missing APNs. doesn't hurt to check
hope it helps in some way
Hi!
Sorry I used so long, I have been busy at work lately.
My version numbers are:
Model Number: Android Dev Phone 1
Baseband: 62.505.20.17H_2.22.19.26I
Kernel version: 2.6.27.00392-g8312baf ([email protected])
Build Number:
dream_devphone-userdebug 1.5 CRB21 147201 test-keys.
Under status I get the following (Which I also got with my old firmware/baseband - without any warning at all!):
Phone number: Unknown
Network: Unknown
Signal Strenght: 0 dBm 0 asu
Mobile Network type: unknown
Service state: Out of service
Roaming: Not roaming
Mobile network state: Disconnected
Wifi works, but there is no way of accessing the Telenor network, as it gives an error message saying an error occured.
any tips will be perfect!
no one?
i've had a similar issue
i lost signal all of a sudden without any reason......tried restarting , reflashing.... nothing helped. After about an hour, signal was back, i'm sure it wasnt the network because checked with a few people while my signal was out
Now to the interesting stuff, i've had exactly same issue with htc touch diamond, both diamond & g1 share the same hardware platform and i'm seriously begining to doubt qualcomm's chipsets
Do you know what chipset is in the iPhone 3G as it happened to me on that one aswell?
And, to me it sounds even more suspicious that this happened just a few days after I came back from the states both times.
And I've had a SIM card in the G1, turned on since my first post, and there is no sign of service at all any of that time - as it would have recieved a copy of SMS's sent to my Twin SIM in the E71.
Well, I better just bite the lemon and get myself something new and more useful.

Is the GPS locked on the Verizon Touch 6900?

Hi y'all,
I have a 16 month old Verizon Touch. When I had the "in the wild" 6.1 Windows Mobile I was able to do the Valhalla GPS Fix and got the GPS working just great. But the official ROM got released and like an idiot I flashed the MR1 official ROM. And then I lost the GPS. Valhalla does not work, QuickGPS does not work.
My only recourse is: I complained enough so I got an early "New Every Two" so when the new Whitestone/Imagio comes out on October 6th I plan to ditch my Touch for good and go with the new phone.
I have my data on block on the Touch because no sense in paying $30 a month without GPS to assist Google and Windows Live. I also bought a lovely new GPS program called CoPilot Live 8, which is extremely reasonably priced, but I'll have to wait until I buy the Imagio to run the thing. Though, I can get maps of any particular area with the program, just can't create a route to a destination without GPS.
So I'm just wondering, anyone else with a Verizon Touch struggling with the GPS on their phone? Tech support swears they don't lock out the GPS, they say its Google's fault for not accessing the GPS on the phone...yeah, sure.
Bye, R

It does seem that VZW does lock the GPS. Not letting customizations run, unlocking, & Flashing a custom ROM will unlock the GPS.
There are plenty of threads on this subject.

yea there are lots of theads in the vogue upgrading thread. pretty much your going to have to downgrade your radio to a pre gps one and then reflash a gps enabled rom and not let customizations run.

Hey DrRoger-
I remember you from Hofo, we got our xv6900's around the same time.
Like you, I had the GPS working with 6.1 update and Valhalla then lost it by letting the customizations run on the official ROM.
I just got my GPS working again today by following the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=533639
It is a bit of work and a lot of flashing but it does work. I think I was brave enough to go through all of it because I plan on getting the Touch Pro 2 (or something better if it comes out) when my NE2 is up in a couple of months. If you decide to try it just follow the instructions precisely, remove your storage card before unlocking and use a computer with xp on it and it should be a fairly smooth process.
Good Luck!

vzw locks
Yeah vzw locks gps but it is a cat and mouse game with the locks and unlocks. Vzw wants to milk you (or others) for their vz navistupid (ie navigator) and charge you for what should be free. They have done this for years. At one time you had to pay verizon for the pictures you took on your phone. When the removable media came std on phones they lost that revenue squeeze.
They will continue to lock out technology to milk the $ out of it. Eventually they have to free it cause they will loose customers. A vzw rep told me this weekend that vzw is going to release their lock on gps in the "near future".

Well VZW has been in a lot of trouble over that. And actually, if you get a world phone now from VZW, the GPS is supposed to be unlocked. I know that doesn't help you guys with Vogues, but it's a start. On the other hand, you can visit the Vogue upgrading section and hit up some of the forums just for unlocking your gps radio. Or even change to a custom ROM. I've been using NFSFAN's Windows Mobile 6.5 Roms with great satisfaction.
I followed the previously linked instructions a few month ago on my 6900, and installed NFSFAN's 6.5 build. Has been working great with a working GPS since then.

wifi issues

hello all.
im having issues with my wifi. im getting realy poor reception even when standing next to the router. i did lots of reading about the matter but could not conclude whether it was a software or a hardware issue. im running stock rom.
i got the phone from google the tmobile version and im currently using it in Oman.
when i got it, i turned the phone on, it asked me if i wanted to update i said, all went perfect.
at first i didnt notice, then couple of hours later i noticed that the wifi bars will not go more than 1 bar if im 20 feets away from the router. if i put the phone on top of the router i still got one bar short than full.
last week i ordered another phone for myfather inlaw. i asked him to cancel and not update his phone to ere27, the same update i performed.
i compared his phone and mine at his house, my phone wouldnt even see the network when we were one floor down when his phone showed 2 bars.
im totaly confused, i dont want to root nor unlock the bootloader. however, i tried to manually flash the update ere27 again using sd card, thinking maybe there was some error last time. still the same.
on the other side i have a jawbone 2 headset. the reception is so bad if i take the phone more than 15cm for my headset, same with the dock. the dock being bluetooth capable, the phone doesnt have to be sitting at the dock in order for it to play music.
while i was doing my readings, it seemed that the bluetooth and wifi are the same chip, thus im wondring it might be a chip issue.
so now im back to zero, radio software issue or chip hardware issue.
some other facts:
i have no problems staying connected to my wifi with my low signal. i have no voice issues nor 3g issues. (3g still under observation and testing to see whether it works fine for me.
this week im getting another nexus one for my brother and dont know whether i ask him not to perform the ere27 update and wait till google sends another ota that might update the radio.
correct if im worng, i was thinking to flash only the radio. i currently have the 4.03, locked and unrooted and was thinking to flash the 4.04 radio but from what i understood that to flash radio u need to be rooted and unlocked?
if yes, then i will have to wait for googles ota.
if no, then point where to find the tutorials and radio file.
any feedback is much appreciated
Try the app wifi fixer... it helped me alot with keeping a good signal
i tried that also but that software helps u maintain a connection. i have no issues staying connected but i have issues with the strength of the wifi signal.
any more inputs
you should WiFi fix app because it shows you what channels are too crowded in your area and which ones are free. it sounds like your channel is so crowded that even next to the router the phone can't get a good signal.
hello
thank u for ur input. today i asked my father inlaw to update his nexus one to update1. i have asked him to refrain from it before thinking it might be a software issue on mine. after his update, his signals got even better when mine struggled to maintain a signal. mind u both phone where next to each other.
i also had blurtooth issues using my jawbone. at first i thought it was my bluetooth but today i tried his headset. the headset would start staticing if the phone is below my shoulder. after doing some readings, i learnt that the nexus one shares the same chip for bluetooth and wifi.
now im certain its a hardware issue.
since im in oman, i emailed htc and told them about the problem and my location. i offered them the option of me sending the phone to my company in san diego or directly to them. lets see what they say.
in the meantime, i decided to purchase another n1 (loaner) till i send mine and have it back after repair. after which i will sell the loaner ; )
cheers
