The Fascinate hasn't even had an official Gingerbread release let alone Gingerbread source code, and you're wondering about ICS source code? Wonder how long it's going to be before we have flying cars. Let's keep a realistic perspective on things.
I sincerely doubt we'll ever see ICS for this phone. Since the Fascinate has been discontinued from VZ we'll be extremely lucky if an official Gingerbread will ever see the light of day. They originally said the Incredible would get GB but now they'be said it won't, so I'm not holding my breath.

ICS isn't really "out at least in development". You can check in the SDK Manager yourself to see that it's not out in development. The only thing out there are some heavily edited screenshots, lacking a version number, that were leaked, and might not even be real!
Don't expect official ICS to ever come (as already been said). At best, there will still be some developers still around that pity us enough to port an ICS rom to our phone.

I don't know if HTC will officially support Ice Cream for our Evo's. I just remember the issues that the devs ran into prior to the official release of GB. I hope I'm wrong because it would be great to have. I also wonder if our hardware even meets the system requirements.

ICS is designed to help end fragmentation. It should run fine on the hardware. I doubt htc will support it tho.

If this (http://androidandme.com/2011/08/news/13-things-we-might-see-with-the-release-of-android-4-0-in-q4/) is correct, any phone running 2.3 should be able to handle ICS.
Evo 4g is close to its end of life the only way we could get this is thru roms

It's interesting at least that we may start getting hints as to what lies ahead for both Android phones and tablets. I'm sure the CM folks will end up porting, so we'll likely see it on the EVO 4G at some point.
Looks like it's mostly UI changes though. Wish they'd posted a screenie of the Gmail app changes; I love the app but the look of it is plain and ugly.
I honestly doubt the Evo will get ICS, we barely got GB, and its not like that OTA was welcomed with open arms.

HTC probably won't officially support it, but I don't doubt that other developers could get it running with the sources available. Also, hope there's some hw acceleration. But no kernel version 3 yet?

Considering people have gotten 2.3 running on the G1, I think it's entirely feasible that the EVO could run ICS.
It may not be without it's problems, but I'm sure after some refining it could be perfectly usable.

Source was never released (if I remember correctly). So that's why we never saw any roms.

Honeycomb was designed for tablets and plus the source was never released to prevent more fragmentation. Icecream is supposed to bridge the gap between gingerbread and honeycomb.
Looks like it will be coming out around the holidays for the Samsung phones

what is going on with the custom roms on this forum? seems like there is no real action? the custom roms that are available are very buggy and no updates.... anyone know? did most of the developers leave? I know mdeejay from virtuous and he's awesome, wth happen that caused him to leave?
Nothing happened, that's the problem. When Acer releases their 3.2 update then you should see some action. I am betting no dev wants to work on a "test" build and would rather build off the official Acer update coming in a few days (or it better).
I think the lack of development has more to do with not having source code. At this point all the roms are just slimmed down hacked/ports of the original release. If source is ever released then we will see some serious action,
Sent from my A500 using XDA Premium App
Yes, I expect Acer will release source with the update as most manufacturers do. No reason to keep the source private.

Acer can release kernel source any time but google isn't releasing HC source. Wait for ice cream sandwich. That release will include source code.

ICE CREAM
Just read the interview w/Andy Rubin. They said they'd open source ICS "a couple weeks" after the Galaxy Nexus's release =)
HTC has said they are looking at ICS and will determine what they will do, because most of the features that make sense great has now been added to ICS. Could be they don't update any of their old phones, and they come up with something totally new for all of their new phones going forward. If they would put sense as it is now, they would cover up a lot of the new great features of ICS. Just a thought.

I can't find anything regarding a version of CM8. I also can't find any CM versions of honeycomb. I have found CM7 with some honeycomb elements, however. Did Google ever release Honeycomb source into AOSP? That is the only place CM goes to build their roms.

Lol.. I was wondering when we are going to see this thread.
I don't need ICS. By next year, we all are going to be upgrade eligible.
By then ICS will be more polished.
As always, Google tends to dish out half-baked stuff. I expect lots of updates for ICS to settle.

If that's the case, then I'm almost positive we could get a port of ICS. I don't really care if it's official.

Since this thread was made, i'd like to add my speculation, any of you who have deeper info are more than welcome to rectify it.
I'll start with what we all know.
CM7 (to-date) is not officially supporting our Samsung Epic 4G due to needing Gingerbread Source.
Mainly Decad3nce&JT1134, (with a few commits from Uberpenguin, Daemon & Noobnl) have brought us an unofficial version of CM7 aka a CM7 'Kang Build'
We're very close to the possibility of having CM7 official.
CM9 at the soonest, is planned to be available to officially supported Cynanogenmod phones, January 2012.
I'm not sure if bringing the Epic to 'official' CM7 means Deca and JT1134 will have the CM team to back them up, or just merit them the title of "official" but if its the latter, then the soonest we should see an official early ICS is 2 months after our epics become Official CM7, and not when the other devices get them in January 2012. This of course is just me thinking here. With all of Deca&JT's work prospering, and the future merges they'll be doing, we may just see an ICS CM9 working build like the other offical phones of CM.

If I understand correctly, Honeycomb was "released" in that at least some of the code is included with the ICS source. Google has indicated they won't release a vanilla version of the Honeycomb source because it never coalesced into a finished product.

Honeycomb by their standards wasn't a finished product. Had it been finished the way they wanted Matias and Hiroshi to go about it, ICS would have taken on a very different look than the final product we have now. Because HC would have been what ICS is.
Sent from my Epic 4G
There's also the fact that honeycomb was not MEANT to be a phone platform. Google has said from the beginning it was optimized and intended for tablets.
This is exciting news indeed. I loooovvvee CM. I installed CM7 with the Green Machine theme on a friend's Optimus V and I was oooing and aahhing as I was poking around to see what it had going for it. I tell her all the time that I'm envious of her because I did 2 things on her phone that I so far cannot on mine: Install a fully functioning and stable CM version, and get data2ext/data2sd working on my beloved Epic.
