Anyone still releasing a stock looking 2.2.x with all the new tweaks, etc?
Still on project V, just wondering.
there is gingerzen with froyo and bi-winning...
I think they pushed froyo, 2.2 at least, to its full capabilities..
yea froyo was developed to the extreme.

Is it just me or does anybody else feel they are going through withdraws from the lack of updated roms lately... Especially after the kernel was released.
I know all the chefs are cooking up some real magic (like the gumbo kernel, which is awesome) and its going to be fun to see what they come up with next. Thanks again to all the chefs for all you guys do. You are all truly amazing...
a lot of the dev are working on other things flipz for example is is working on getting his kitchen from pre to full realese and a lot of the others are working on porting to .29 so that we can get the 2.1 roms fully functioning.
a few of us are devoting most if not all of our time to porting the kernel htc released into the 2.6.29 kernel so we can hopefully get fully working 1.6, 2.0.1 and/or 2.1 android builds. After that the rom flood will begin again. I've got a half finished rom I was working on but I'm waiting until I can get 2.1 fully functioning without having to hack android into thinking it has the right kernel.
Honestly I've barely scratched the surface with my attempts at porting the kernel to a newer version and my eyes are spinning, my programming experience is more at the beginner level though, hopefully some of the other devs are having better luck than I am.
Hi all
Looking to flash a 2.1 ROM for my sister as i recently sold her my Hero as i purchased a N1
Sorry to ask but in your opinion which is the best 2.1 ROM to flash for day to day stability? usually im up to date on these things but having switched to a nexus ive been abit out of touch with what's going on with HERO DEV work
Cheers in advance for any replys
Get CronosDroid. Only installed yesterday but so far without any major issues. Runs as smooth as any 1.5 with few quirks which are normally present on all custom 2.1. Honestly, I've been very impressed and really can't see how HTC can improve much on official version.
I found the SlideVillian 1.1 to be amazing, fast, smooth and with lots of features... yet to have any problems with it...

Wait until next week. The most up to date kernel has just been made available so a decent 2.1 ROM can be made. We'll have a full, non-buggy 2.1 very soon methinks.

I agree. Most people are using the Cronos one, and the 3 Villian ROMs I think. Read the threads, see what bugs are present and have a play.
But yeah, I reckon within the next week or so we'll be seeing some real magic.

To correct you. The kernel that was released/leaked already is working correctly.
All static/module drivers for the hero are being loaded the way they should.
It is not the kernel that is giving these issues on the roms. but the Libraries created against that kernel. It was more then enough to use the goldfish 2.6.29 kernel and do some little coding so it compiles correctly. Using the compiled kernel and building up the roms with those libraries was the fix...
Hey all,
I may be interested in picking up an Epic 4G. I know nothing about the phone, but I assume it's rooted and there are some third party ROM builds. With these builds, is it possible to get 2.2 and 2.3 in the future on this device, or is there anything I should know about before taking the plunge?
Thanks!
look in the devoplment section., thats where you youll find your awnsers

You'll get 2.2.1 on the Epic soon, and 2.3 is a probably. Who knows on the latter though.
Hey,
If you do pick up a new Epic, it won't be rooted, you'll have to root it yourself.
In regards to Android versions 2.2 (Froyo) and 2.3 (Gingerbread), Froyo is already confirmed and hopefully should be (officially) out before the end of the year. As for Gingerbread, its up for debate, Samsung has been very opaque about it and hasn't confirmed or denied it.
If you want to get custom ROM's, there are already plenty in the development section of the Epic forums, and there are a bunch of 2.1 and 2.2 ROMs. The 2.2 ROM's out now are based off a leak of 2.2, but they should all work fine as far as I know.
If you need anything else, post it up, and I'm sure someone here will get back to you.
I've been been out of the loop for pretty long, and was just wondering what users of xda considered to be the best rom out at the moment. Currently on elelinux, but fancy a change, cheers!
CyanogenMod 7 was released today... but I can't seem to get it working. I'm (still) on 6 at the moment and I really like it.
Cyanogen 7 is reallllllyyyy slow.
Depends wether you want sense or aosp.
My favourite sense is chocolate froyo but it has no camera.
My favorite aosp is probably elelinux 2.3 but it has been really buggy. He released a new version today that promises to fix it but to be honest I am so happy with villain 13 that I probably won't flash again until either sense 2.2 or bonesys 2.3 have camera.
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
Froyo: Elelinux Speedmachine v3 or Floyo 1.2
Gingerbread: Cronos Gingerbread 2.0.1
I'm not sure about 2.1 sense roms but i think cronos or villain would be best here.
Went from stock android 2.1 to VILLIANROM 13 then to tastyfroyo 1.2 then to CM7 nightly build #35 then now with CM7 stable release. CM7 was best for me but this stable release really buggy with the notorious transparent menu bug..
Sent from my Hero using XDA App
no problem for me on cm7 !
not slower than cm6.1 rc1 that i had just before
If you need stability, do not touch CM7 for Hero. Wait at least for 7.1. There is an unfixed problem with overflowing graphics buffer in Android 2.3.3. Other devices also suffer from this issue, but Hero suffers more, as it has less graphics memory.
Actually no 2.3 ROM is satable and fast enough. I am using CM7 nightlies, but they can sometimes be a PITA.
I would suggest FroydVillian 1.7
Soon there will be Real Gingersense For an alfa it´s awesome
I'm using VillainRom 13 because I want Sense. Looking forward to their 2.3 with new Sense offering though.
i just installed Cyanogen 6 , it's my first time
how i wishsed to use fallah rom cause it's fully supporting arabic
Are there any Sense ROMs that are CM-based for the Hero?
My girlfriend has a Hero that I've got rooted running LiquidSense right now (see sig). It's running pretty well, and she likes the interface. Early on I tried installing aospmod to see what she thought of it. She was not a fan. So CM is out of the cards for her. Moreover, I'm not a fan of CM since it seems to be pretty unstable overall. She needs her phone for work. It needs to be stable. And I really don't feel like I should have to update her phone with nightlies just to have something that's been upgraded since last Spring.
So my question is: Are there any STABLE Sense ROMs for Android 2.2 or 2.3? From what I can tell, any development for the Hero is sticking to CM7. I see that there's a Hero theme for CM7 now, but she wants the full Sense experience (incl contacts, etc), and not just the visuals.
There are a couple of 2.2 roms, but I don't think they are complete. If you want a full and complete sense rom, liquid is about it.

Sent from my CDMA Hero. I got some hot Ginger-on-Hero action here!

i too use my phone for work and there are stable versions of the CM variations, the nightlies are for the most part unstable.. the sense integration was cool, but stock android you can do all of the same by installing the apps that integrate the contacts, which essentially is all that HTC did with sense, they just used their own apps (which arent as good).. my wife was a huge sense fan, but after i got her to try something other than sense for a while she came to realize that it wasnt the awesomeness that it was toted to be.. aospcmod (which is android 2.3) is incredibly stable, and there are ways to make the phone look like sense, but in all honesty i dont believe that sense was ever meant to run efficiently (its too fat) on the hero, and they have come out with newer versions of sense that would be better suited for the hero but we cant get them.. like ranger said there is a 2.2 version of sense out there, but pretty sure it isnt that stable.. and the other sense products are just stock, but are "optimized" (meaning they just took some crap out)..
thanks for the response guys. I'll revisit the AOSP roms and see what I can do.
