File manager problems... - Acer Iconia A500

Can somebody tell me how do you copy files large as a gb from your tab to a pendrive.....i used file expert....file manager hd......es file explorer....astro....but in vain......it stops before half way through and tells copying file failed......es doesnt even start copying and astro says java.io exception error.......(and the pendrive works just fine with my pc....)...any ideas...?
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App

Works fine for me. Try a different pen drive.

I have similar problems. I have a Sandisk Cruzer Contour and when I try to transfer more than lets say a 1GB at a time it sometimes freezes half way through. This especially happens when the screen shuts off. The light on my USB stick blinks when it is transfers but it often gets stuck on a solid light. I use file manager HD because it seemed to work the best out of the ones that I tried.

I tried this with a sandisk and a transcend pendrive......same results....
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App

I use astro and an 8 gB San disk, always works fine for me too.

sorry, also had no problems copying files as large as just-under 4gb from time to time, to verbatim 16gb USB stick as well as an IOGear USB card reader (with a microSDHC card). I've been using mostly File Manager HD.
Make sure the screen timeout is set to long enough to not turn off.

Problem copying over large file to 2 gig card.

Hey, I'm having a problem copying a 300 megabyte wmv file from my computer to my 2 gig stick. Whenever it gets to about 5~10% goes back to 0 and starts again, does anyone have this problem? Or, does anyone know what's the matter?
Thanks!
BTW, my card is a 2 gig MiniSD on my Cingular 8125.
i havent tried this.. dont use my phone much for music and video, mostly just all data... but is it going through activstink? if so is it converting the file? and 300meg file going through the phone takes a while, i would try using your mini sd adapter and a card reader and connect it to your pc and just copy it over that way
Oh, thank you for the reply, I'll try to directly transfer it from PC to stick instead of through activesync. No, it says conversion (none) so I assume it is not converting. I will see if I can plug the stick into my computer.
Btw, when I remove my stick should I power off my 8125? Almost everything is installed into my stick.
Edit: Nope, , there is no place on my computer for me to plug my stick directly into.
no need to power off... and you should have gotten an SD adapter for your mini SD card. after putting the mini sd card into the SD adapter then would need a SD card reader which are very inexpensive to acquire if you dont have one already. then plug the reader into the computer, the computer should recognize it as a removable storage device. just drag and drop...
Alright, thank you! Yes it did come with an adapter. Is there anyway to copy large files through activesync?
you should be able to.. but with my experience it just takes forever... i copied my iguidance map for a friend one time and its 600meg... took 30 minutes to complete. I only copy large files via the adapter nowadays
Yeah, I don't mind waiting 15-30 minutes, it's just that it resets itself and I have no idea if I can ever get it on my phone via activesync.
Edit: I'm trying a different method, right clicking the file and going to send to.. then selecting device, then they prompt me to choose the destination within the device, so far so good. I'll edit again if it's successful or not.
SUCCESS!!
WM5Storage
I use WM5Storage instead, for large files. Works better and faster, than ActiveSync.

Problem with micro sdhc

Hi guys! I recently purchased HTC Touch Pro and A-data 8 Gb micro sdhc class 6. My laptop recognizes the card and I format it to FAT 32, so I think the card functions properly. The problem is that the device does not recognize tha card. I updated the ROM with the latest official release from the HTC site , and I was happy finally to see my card. The problem is that after restart, the card is invisible again. Can anyone help me? Maybe the storage card is faulty after all?
Possibly man, i am sure you have another card in there. Test it, if all is ok with it, then exchange your 8GB if possible....
The same thing happened to me; I don't know if it's faulty though. It is recognized at first, and of course I can transfer files from my laptop.

incompatability with SDHC
There is a known partition problem that can destroy your Micro SD (or any other size SD) if you every stuck it into an older reader that does not support newer sizes (any HC, or even standard SDs over 1GB).
Old readers can show your newer SD-family cards, and APEAR to work, until you fill them up past the size the old reader supports.
FOR EXAMPLE:
my old laptop has a built-in SD reader. Back when I used the HTC Wizard, I bought a 2GB miniSD, and dumped files to it from my laptop. Little did I know, the built-in reader only supports SD card up to 1GB. It worked back and forth many times untilI crossed the 1GB line (filled teh SD past 1GB). Then files disapeared or could not be accessed randomly. Kindgston told me it was a known issue of some older devices (readrer/camera/etc): the older device messes up the partition, which you CANNOT fix yourself: reformatting the messed0up partition does nothing. Ship back to manufacturer to fix. Now I'm careful to avoid the built-in SD reader
So I would advise: fill your microSD up aver half-way, and see if you desktop/ laptop has problems accessing files sampled from all over the chip. If it does, this is probabaly your problem.
I think it's just the card/brand itself. The HTC site lists card brands and sizes that have been tested and proven compatible, and the A-Data 8GB isn't one of them (although the 4GB SDHC is compatible). Sandisk is the only 8GB card that's supposedly compatible, and I've pretty much found that out since I had no luck with an A-Data 8GB but the Sandisk works flawlessly.
When I first copied files over to the A-Data and put it in the phone it didn't recognize it at first, but after a couple times of taking it out and putting it back in I was able to read and write to it in TotalCommander, but when I went to play music files the player froze up solid and the card was no longer readable until I did the in and out thing again. Bottom line was there was no way that card was going to work right in the phone, but as soon as I started using a Sandisk I never had a problem.
same thing happen to me
i think the phone will not recognise class 6 memory card
i will try sandisk 8gb class 2 when i got a chance

Card doesn't work in my Fuze. Oh well, I'll find another use for it.
Wierd.... I have two Adata 8GB cards, one works in the Touch Pro, the other doesn't. Both of them work in my Sharp EM One.
hi ive been looking like crazy to fix this problem but this seems to be the only post close to it.
i recently got a transcend class 6 4gb micro sdhc (listed on the website as compatible) for my htc fuze. the fuze (WM6.1) has been updated to the new rom version (5.xx).
i put it in nothing happens. it work fine on a computer (via usb reader). i have a kingston 2gb micro sd that works fine (but is used for another device). I really want to get this one to work so its not a waste.
so far ive tried reformatting to FAT, 64K and FAT32, 32K (via windows vista formatting).. none of which work.
really annoying, i dont have any other device that uses this card and i specifically checked this brand and type with the htc fuze and seems like everyone having no probs with it.
any other things i can try? is it a faulty card maybe (but it works through usb reader)?
I am having problems with the 8gb class6 cards as well. I have tried the Adata and the transcend cards. Here are some interesting things I have found.
1. The energyrom series of roms seems to be the only rom that lets me see the card.
2. I can't access the card until it the rom loads.
3. I can flash roms from the card even if I cant access them from the phone.
I did see there was a utility to help load SDHC cards called SDHC_WM6. I was never able to get it to load right but it indicates there is some kind of software driver that might help these cards.

I saw this utility too.. but its for windows mobile 6 not 6.1.. when 6 came out it had no support for sdhc so that thing came out, 6.1 should have support from the start
of course that didnt stop me from trying it anyway... doesnt work
I have a 8 gb Sandisk- Works flawlessly. I have a 16gb Adata( class 6) that worked for awhile then stopped. Put the 8gb- works, 16gb doesnt. tried different ROM- Still same effect. I has to be the Adata card. I am going to try a 16 gb Sandisk when my funds are available.
Oh- the 16 works fine in the microsd/SD card reader......
SDHC Class 6 works in HTC Jade
I have a jade and both cards that refuse to work with my fuze work just fine with the htc jade. I am not sure if it is a hardware problem or an issue with some software such as the sdhc.dll.
My thought is it is probably software. Why?
First the class 4 cards work just fine. In fact I am currently using a Dane-elec 16gb class4 card.
Secondly I am able to get intermittent class 6 cards access if I use one of the NRGY roms.
I have been using a 8gb Adata card that I bought from newegg, and it has been working flaslessly since november.
I recenlty bought another 8gb Adata from meritline, and this one does not get recognized by the fuze.
I then read in the above posts that somebody used Total Commander to copy files, so I opened up Total Commander, and the card is shown there.
I closed the the program, and now the File Explorer can see the card as well.
Maybe you can try the above steps and see if it works.
edit: actually, I have to plug in and out a few times for the phone to see the card...
I also have this issue with my transcend 8GB class 6 microSD.
HTC Touch Pro (T-Mobile), upgraded to EnergyRom. After upgrade, able to work perfectly. After few hours (the phone of course went into sleeping mode), then the phone was not able to read the card, so starting application installed in it makes the phone hangs.
After a while, the application (10-15 mins) was able to start, then everything is normal again. Very confusing.
At the moment I am assuming it's due to the sleeping mode, somehow the phone (software??) was not able to 'resume' reading from the micro SD.
Note: Previously somehow it clashed with the keyboard mapper software (pro_fuze_keyboard.ZIP), then I uninstalled it, then it was fine. Then I install another version of keyboard mapper (Shlomki TouchPro Keyboard in Fuze ROM.cab), then it's fine again, so I now stick with this mapper. However above issue is still happening.
I read some thread about changing some registry (pnp** set to 8196), so I set it. However still the problem persists.
I haven't tried other suggestion to tweak other registry values. Here's the thread on Hermes device: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294324&page=29
I am wondering if it's really class 6 problem. Is there anybody having the same issue with 8GB class 4?
Note: my PC can read the card without any kind of problem.
I put the microSD into N95 also without any problem.
and i have the same problem to touch pro will not recognize my sdhc 4GB class 6, and i have no problems with 4GB class 4.
HI Bobby,
Were you able to get the Transcend 8gb Class 6 work on the HTC Fuze? I have the same problem. I upgraded the rom from the HTC site and I could see it. But later I plugged the card using the adapter to the laptop to copy some files and when I plug that back into the phone, it says "Not Installed". My happiness of not losing 20 buck was only for a couple of mins Any help is appriciated?
Can you give me download link for the energy rom which actually worked with the card?

I had somewhat of a similar issue, wondering if anyone else has seen this?
8 Gig no name brand MicroSD card in my TouchPro, all of a sudden I had less than 1 gig left, using Resco I couldn't see a thing taking up all that space but it was all gone.
I put the card in the transflash adapter and looked at it on my desktop Windows Explorer and saw the following folders in \Storage Card\Program Files
one directory named (*#LD*))#KDP|} with some text after it
another directory named (#*(Y%*(#(*#*(@#kKD* with some text after it.
NEITHER directory could be renamed, moved, deleted, or anything.
Formatting the card hung the format process.
Finally, I put the microSD card back in my TP and all of a sudden Resco Explorer saw these directories and so I just deleted the Storage Card\Program Files directory (no programs in it) and formatted the card and everything was fine.
Anyone else ever seen this?

Transfer data from pc to TF101 too slow

Hi all,
I use usb cable to transfer game data to TF101 (around 1GB, 4500 files), but it's too slow (take almost 2 hours).
Have you got this problem? Copy 1 file is OK (1GB), but what problem with large amount of file?
I guess its because multiple files all have to go through one by one
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium HD app
Its normal. Flash chips arent very good at handle small files, and the TF is no exception. In fact, its quite bad.
Even my SSD Disc, which is capable of writing files at ~550MB/sec, struggles with a lot of small files, down to speeds as low as 10MB/sec.
Theres nothing you can do about it. Its just the way flash chips works today.
But it's strange that Samsung GS II do much faster than my TF101.
And also HTC HD2 (around 15-20 min).
I have tested, copy to internal memory and sdcard have the same problem (use usb cable).
Slow transfer speeds when connected via USB do sound familiar. But it seems this is not caused by a slow SD card. If I plug the MicroSD card into the card reader of my laptop, transfer speed is much higher than copying data to said card when connected via USB and plugged into my Transformer.
Seems the bottleneck is the MTP protokoll or the Transformer itself.

Its not strange. Those devices have faster flash memory than the TF.
Also, the cardreader in the TF is also very slow, compared to your average card reader for a PC/laptop.
Even the card reader in my N7B is slightly faster than the TF, despite being more than half the price of a TF.
Using ADB to transfer files, the N7B manages an average of 5.2MB/sec, while the TF only manages around 4.8MB/sec using the same card (class 4 iirc). It may not sound like a huge difference, but calculate that on a large file and the speed difference is a lot more noticable.
The TF is faster than the N7B on small files though, thanks to the faster CPU, but not by much, only around 0.2MB/sec difference.
TL;DR The TF's cardreader and flash memory sucks.

MTP sucks too. It was much faster to transfer files in HC using USB Mass Storage mode.
You might want to try TeraCopy if you have a PC. Set it as the default handler for file management/file explorer and transferring data should be much faster. Good luck.

I wouldnt know, I only use adb to transfer files and, to my knowledge, MTP doesnt affect that.
But yes, mass storage is always preferable to any other sad excuse for filetransfer (if not using adb, that is)
I have noticed this as well. Always chalked it up to the fact I was moving files to an external MicroSd card.
use wifi and ftp sharing mode (file expert)
I think I've read somewhere here in this forum before that the problem in the slow file transfer occur because of the honeycomb file system which i think it's the same as ics. you can search about this .
For me this is very annoying , usually I mount my sd card in laptop and copy my files because this is much faster than copying directly to the tablet via usb. With my galaxy note i do not need to do that , Note's MTP is very fast.
Heh funny thing.. I reformatted my PC yesterday, now I cant get speeds higher than 2MB/sec using adb, compared to at least 4MB/sec before
**** knows whats wrong, as Im using the same usb port and drivers as always

Transferring files over wifi and sd card transfers

I've been trying to transfer files to my external sd card with es explorer over wifi and also with usb from my pc. Every time the screen goes off I lose the connection and the transfer stalls and won't resume.
The card was formatted on the tablet, and is exfat. Windows doesn't recognize it and says it can't format it.
Any ideas?

More info would help us to help you.
What kind of pc, what OS, what adapter are you using for computer, what brand sd card, how big are the files, are you doing other tasks on the computer when transfering the files and have you tried reformatting on your tablet.
.

Except for small files, I don't use ESFile Manager to transfer them, and for me it's just as easy to pop the MicroSD card out of the tablet and put it in a fast USB 3.0 card reader than connecting the tablet to my PC with its data cable at USB 2.0 speeds. I don't do this for my Note phone because I'd have to take my multi-layer Seidio case and and back cover off to access the MicroSD card, but with the tablet the card is more easily accessible.

How is your microSD formatted? NTFS or exFAT?
I am using windows XP, standard USB cables (that came with the device), large files (movies, tv shows) of over 10gigs some of them.
it may be something as simple as my usb port on the laptop, just wondering more about transfers stopping when the tablet goes to sleep?
air droid seems pretty neat, but 100mb limit per month?
You guys should check out Samsung Link. It allows you to access/transfer/stream content from any device it's running on from any Wi-Fi network. It also works over 3/4G.
Oh yeah, it's a 64gb adata micro sd

Windows XP will not support EX-FAT unless you have update (WindowsXP-KB955704-x86-ENU.exe) found here. 3.2 mb download http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=19364 For 32 bit.

It's a Samsung 64GB SDXC card formatted exFAT. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit on a i7 based PC I just custom built, so it's USB 3.0 and very fast. I came from an old dual core Windows XP desktop PC (that I also built), so I know what you're feeling. Previously I would just sync or copy stuff over WiFi all the time without really noticing much of a speed difference over directly connecting my tablet/phone to my PC via a cable. But now whenever I can use my USB 3.0 card reader I do it because it's night and day different in terms of speed.
i reformatted it with windows, files are tranferring at ~13MB/s over USB2.0. Painful yes, but at lerast they are copying
i have yet to see if it works in the tablet after things are copied over. definitely easy to manage from within windows with teracopy pro, but would be nice if i could use es explorer over wifi on my home network and let the copies go overnight without waking up to failed transfers because the device went to sleep during the transfer....
.... Aaand now the tablet won't recognize the card. Should have formatted with the device, not the computer

thank you for the link.....XP recognized the card after installing the driver

this is getting off topic, but how do i now get anything to recognize the card? this is frustrating!

XP can return that error when moving large files esp. when you have write caching enabled. You could turn that off but it slows down you file cache.
I have also had errors in Windows 7 when moving to many large files at one time. I think the chip over heats as mine does get hot some times when I transfer large files in computer with adapter.

Issues Connecting PC to Nook Color with CM7 SD Card

Hello everyone. I have a Nook Color that I am running CM7 on. It's working great (compared to how slow it was when I had CM10 on it), can run most apps and games just fine. However, I have a number of movies and TV shows I would like to be able to watch (the SD card I bought to use for all this is a 32GB card, bought specifically to have space for apps and videos). However, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to actually get the video files onto the tablet. Here's what I've done so far and what I've read about:
1. Started with my tablet turned off, plugged it into the computer, and turned it back on. At first, I was getting the device installing window popping up on my computer, but quickly disappearing and nothing connecting. Eventually I got a notification saying I needed to restart my computer to finish installing, so I did that. Next time I plugged my tablet in, the device installation screen stayed up until the bar was complete (a couple minutes). Throughout this process, I manually went to the notifications list on my tablet and continuously turned on the USB storage option any time I reconnected. Still nothing. It does charge however.
2. I've also tried two different USB connector cords, all three of my USB ports, and restarting my computer multiple times.
3. I also tried to see if I could go the Bluetooth route, but that didn't really go too far. Got the two things paired and they claimed they were connected, but it didn't work out at all.
Any other options, or any thoughts on things I can try? Thanks for any help.
Well, first the Nook Color has no Bluetooth antenna so the range is inches, not feet.
Second, you need to configure the device properly. Go to settings and turn off USB debugging. Can't remember exactly where that is on CM7. Second, you need to set up USB Mass Storage. If I remember right go to storage and hit the advanced button under the menu. Then when connected do the notification turn on thing.
As a last resort take the sd out and insert it in the PC to transfer the files.

I thought about just putting the files onto the SD card (I have no issue with that), but I wasn't sure where to put them. Do you know what directory it has to be in?
To clarify, the SD card I want to put the videos on is the SD card that SM7 is installed on. I don't know if that changes anything, but when I put the SD card into my laptop, I just get a bunch of unusable files. Can I not transfer files that way (direct from PC to SD)?
Otherwise I found apps that would allow me to transfer over wifi, but I don't know what directory to put them into.

Since you have CM installed to SD that copy on to sd inserted in PC will not work. You cannot see the right partition with windows.
And wifi transfer works great for me. Just put them anywhere and once on the nook you can use the file manager to move them where you want.
