Great opportunity for Samsung in Europe - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

Update the Galaxy Tab 10.1v to Android 3.1 with or without Touchwiz

Would this work? I don't know anything about the patents so I am asking out of general interest.

Samsung announced ICS update in Korea, but only for newer phones.

Samsung just officially announced that there will be no ICS update for various android based phone from Samsung EXCEPT GS2, GS2 LTE, GS2 HD, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy Tab 8.9.
Samsung also said that GS1 specially optimized for Gingerbread, so they can not update GS1 to ICS.
Some Korean users are in rage due to the fact that GS1 is strong enough for ICS.
And rightly so. no one's buying that, ever. Not only google got it running on nexus s which is pretty much the same phone as we all seen ports running great.
If they don't want to update an old phone its their prerogative but at least be honest about it.
Edit: just realized they never said sgs wasn't powerful enough, they just won't update it. I can understand the raging but can't help it if they aren't willing to do it...
I will never buy samsung phone again
why do not update galaxy s to ICS with have as more spec with Nexus S
Official? Source?
Besides that:
Nexus S = Google
Galaxy S = Samsung
It's in Korean. I will post a new post with translation.
Pretty much rules out any chance of us getting the update ever.
If I had to guess, I'd say it's because of the retarded filesystem Samsung locked stock users into. Regardless, it's a ****ty move by Samsung nontheless.

Because then you wouldn't buy a new phone. I suspect the file system was also a way for them to force you into buying a new phone. Planned obsolescence.
You have to wonder though, Samsung release a few phones with similar/lower specs to our phone such as the SGS+, and the Galaxy W, and their releases haven't had one year behind them. Will they really not update them?

[Q] few Roms fpr Galaxy Tab 7.7?

I changed from Samsung Galaxy S2 to Samsung Galaxytab 7.7 3G.
In xda-developers forum there are many Roms (Custom and Stock) for the S2 but only a few for the Galaxy Tab 7.7.
What is the reason for this?
Will there be more roms if ICS for Galaxy Tab 7.7 is out?
I dont understand why there are only a few roms for this really great TAB
I think because it is such a new product and also development is focussed on ICS and there is a fair amount of work to port from CM9 from other devices and build a working rom with no issues.
It is close though! I can't wait.
The custom tweaked and stock v3 is soon to be released and if anything like v2 it will be even better and run very well.
Lets support our devoted devs!!!
The answer probably is:
GS II sold a ton of devices (10 millions at least) and was brought to Us early
GT 7.7 is selling few devices and in Us came only trough verizon few time ago

Woho! I don't know much about the nuts and bolts of developing/hacking a custom ROM together - but is it safe to assume we'll be able to finally get the ICS drivers for the Tab 10.1 out of this and apply it to CM9/AOKP/etc?

Not yet,
I have kept my tab stock and will do so until the official ics is out. I just checked before making this post.
When I get it, I'll update here unless someone else beats me to the punch like the Canadian 3.2 update.
Regards.
Edit. In Canada the Rogers tabs recieved 3.2 before the wifi only models....grumble! So someone with a Canadian 4g model may want to check as well.

does it matter if the wifi only tab is rooted only or not? I haven't received any updates but only thing I did to it was root it.

Unfortunately just Samsung releasing the an ICS rom for our tabs won't fix in a single thing in cm9 until Samsung releases the kernel source code that they have to by law(GPL licencing). This kernel source code is what will allow developers to get the camera working on cm9. Samsung seems to release the source code within a couple of weeks after an official rom release. Which sounds bad, but unfortunately Samsung is one of the fastest companies to release source code, some can take months. Even with the source code, to get the camera to work on cm9 will take a lot of effort to do, it's not just as simple as dragging and dropping something and could take a little to a lot of time to fix. With out this source code, an official ICS rom is meaningless for development of cm9. In other words even after we get ICS from Samsung, we still have a long and bumpy ride. I hope this helps you
connected to kies and no update was found....sad face
Got my hopes up for nothing almost time to root agen
I have a completely stock "4G" rogers tab and nothing so far.
Thanks for the quick updates everyone! I'm hoping to get this before my trip on wednesday but I probably shouldn't hold my breath.
I currently have a CM9 kang on here, if I follow the overcome instructions to get back to stock, will that leave me with stock US or is it generic? What differentiates the two models?
Cheers

You need to return to stock in order to receive OTA updates.

I just got an update on my WiFi Tab 10.1, but it's not ICS... it says Android 3.2. The update gave me a new back button (it's curved now) and a new app called AllShare. Was this an update that I totally missed that came out earlier? When did it come out?
Also, when ICS does come, will I get it sooner OTA or via Kies?
Damn Canadians!!! lol jk
saw an update after engadgets news about ics update, was excited until i realized it is not ics its just 3.2 after it finished update
Damn this thread! It is making me restore my backup I made in anticipation of ICS lol
no update for 4g tab on rogers...

How can download the official ICS Canada version?

Patience is a virtue that many Android users get to exercise when it comes to waiting for carriers and manufacturers to bring their smartphones up to speed with the latest Android flavor.
The wait for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is over for some Canadian folks, since Samsung Canada announced that it has started rolling out the ICS software update for Samsung Galaxy devices. The update will be available on select devices starting now and will continue to reach all devices and carriers.
Samsung devices that can soon hop aboard the Ice Cream Sandwich express include the Galaxy S2, Galaxy S2 LTE, Galaxy S2 LTE HD, and Galaxy S2 X. Tablets aren’t forgotten either, since the Galaxy Note, Galaxy Tab 7.0, Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, Galaxy Tab 8.9 and Galaxy Tab 10.1 will also receive the ICS update soon. And yes, we’re every bit as surprised as you are to see the original Galaxy Tab being listed there.
Rolling out an upgrade across so many variants and carriers takes time you know, so don’t be alarmed if you don’t see it on your Samsung Galaxy device today. Some manual checking won’t hurt either if you want to somewhat speed up the process, though the fresh new version of Android will still be heavily adorned with Samsung’s TouchWiz. Also, keep in mind that the rollout depends on the good will of the carriers too, so your mileage may vary.
Hopefully Samsung Canada’s move will be followed soon by their US counterpart. Samsung has already detailed last week which devices will be eligible for the upgrade, but failed to mention any specific dates. Interestingly, unlike the Canadian list, the original Galaxy Tab 7 isn’t on the US list.
So, have you received your ICS update yet? Tell us in the comments below.
There wouldn't be any sense in downloading the Note ICS update that's being pushed to canada because it is for the LTE note which is a completely different device than the one you presumably have if you're in this forum.
Not the right place bub!!
Canadian Update is not for N7000!!
OTOH
Wazzup Ganjaman!!

The reason why the ICS-update will possibly never get a full ww-release

I had a discussion today with a local Samsung office regarding why the Official ICS update for Galaxy tab P7500 will properly never get a WW-release.
I put the question to the Samsung official that if forever delayed ICS update for GT-P7500 had something to do with their court-battles with Apple regarding GT-P7500 and the Ipad. The Samsung official more or less hinted that the reason for the ICS update has not been released WW and most likely never wll be for the device has something to do with their legal problems with this specific device.
So there you have it folks.

The court has said recently that Sammy did not violate any patents regarding apple's iPad which is why the ban was withdrawn last week on tab 10.1 sales even though it doesn't matter now
Thus I do not see how what u said adds up!
PS: I think Samsung has to pay $2 billion to apple but they did appeal so the frenimies are having the time of their lives while we suffer in agony from lack of updates and options!

I'd like to ask about why there's no JB!
I'm off to Asus for my future purchases.
