Extract contacts from backup - XPERIA X8 General

I wanted to install a custom rom to see what's all that racket about,so i installed GingerDX-007.Before that I've backed up my stock system with the xRecovery.Cool, but now most of my contacts are somewhere in that archive(or I hope so),so is there any way to extract them ?

you could've backup your contacts to SD card or via myphone explorer .. but now it's difficult...

That hard? You mean restore, copy and install custom rom again?

ya mate, you need to restore, backup contacts to SD and then install any custom rom, but in my experience no custom rom is stable at all like stock.

When using ROM manager to flash a rom, where is backup?

edit: regarding below, I did another flash and this time it did create a backup in clockworkmod/backups.
maybe I did something wrong ... nah, that would never happen.
I just flashed a rom with rom manager and selected BACKUP CURRENT ROM while doing so.
Where the heck is the backed up ROM? I can't find it anywhere on sd card.
edit:
I should have said that I know to look in clockworkmod/backups, I have ton of bups in there that I did with BACKUP CURRENT ROM (just backing up, not flashing).
I am referring to when you are flashing rom and the popup with 2 choices comes up (wipe, backup). I checked backup and it seemed to do it, but there is no file in clockword any newer than the last bup I did with the BACKUP CURRENT ROM function.
on your sd card look for the clockwork mod folder, in there are two folders, "backup" and "download". it's in backup

[Q] Update Rom with keeping data+settings

Hi @ all,
I haven't enough posts to write in the Data2System Rom's thread, so I try it here. I just want to ask if there is a way to update from my recent rom "data2system mod for 2.3.3 SwiftDroid v2.0-M2" to the latest M3 without lossing all my apps and settings?
Hope someone can help me.

I havent try myself the following way but i think it might work.
Make a backup of 2.0M2 , put M3 backup folder in clockworkmod > backup next to the other and flash it then in advance restore Flash only system.img from M2 backup.
In data2system mod system.img makes the job of data.img in normal mod and viceversa.
If that does not work then use titanium backup pro and make a full backup of users apps then after flash new rom install titanium again and run the restore all user apps & system data. Titanium backup folder with your backups will be in your sdcard so copy it in a safe place if you ever need to format it.

[Q] Restore system app from different ROM

Alright so I have been doing alot of ROM swapping and I found a few apps from other ROMs that I really like but don't exist in my current ROM. Obviously its possible to take apps from one ROM and put it in another otherwise you wouldn't see custom ROMs that are baked with apps from different ROMs baked in.
For instance I really would like to restore the splashtop app from the Dexter's Asus port so I can use it in Taboonay. Titanium Restore just hangs until I kill the app.
Can someone tell me how I can take my titanium backup of a system app from a different ROM and restore it to my current ROM?
Really? No one? Come on guys.
you must backup the application you wanna choose, on the first custom rom with titanium, and then restore it in the other rom. but it's not all application can restore it up.
Yeah I tried that and it didn't restore. It just hung titanium and I had to terminate titanium. I tried doing an ADB push of the APK to the /system/App folder from the titanium backup zip file but when I launch it it just force closes.
Could Asus have done something to this APK so that it would only work on the Transformer? (Splashtop)
not sure if titanium backup will back up and restore the /system/lib files. Some apps need these to work and won't install or run without them.

[Q] Could I install a new ROM, then return to my old backed up ROM?

I have a rooted Nexus 7 running the ROM aokp_grouper_jb_build-5. If I backed up this ROM in Clockworkmod recovery, then installed a new ROM, would I be able to restore back to my AOKP ROM if I didn't like the new ROM I installed?
Yep
It's not a problem. You can back up your new ROM too. Be sure to put something in the name of your backups to let you know which ROM it is. I usually leave the date & then put the ROM name in, such as 2012-10-28-AOKP.
No problem at all

When I back up my ROM it doesn't let me choose a name for the backup. How can I change the name of the backup?
I use TWRP and you have to set the name of the backup before you start the backup process

Just use your file explorer to find the file & rename it. If you are using Clockwork, there will be a folder on your sdcard called clockwork, and in that is a folder called backups. your backup file is in there, named something like 2012-10-28.12.10.3242, which is the date & time of the backup.

Always store your backup file in a computer right after backing up, never just assume that you won't lose it after installing a new ROM.
Like JJEgan said, always backup using recovery.
I would just keep looking in your files (maybe you moved the file...?) or just plain leave it for dead.
A fresh start is sometimes the way to go
