I have a rom in progress, its gonna be a lot of different things and hopefully I can get it to work .
It will be gingerbread based, something that hasnt really come out yet. A non cm7/miui/vanilla experience.
I do have some questions though so if any better dev then myself can help me out that would be much appreciated.
I'm not a dev but.. i really hope i can see this come into fruition
Haven't you learned by now that it's really lame to post progress or "what I plan to do" threads? If jt or sbrissen did that it would he hacky and they have the work to fall back on
Do yourself a favor and work on whatever you want but keep it to yourself until you have something worthwhile to put out...cuz so far you are about 0 for the century on executing what you plan to do
And if its aosp based don't just rebuild jts vanilla rom with a new theme and call it something else

I think its pretty lame to make "LMAO" posts, but I couldn't help it sorry.
There was another guy in the charge forum who made a thread of how he was gonna make a spiffy new rom and gave release dates and he just crashed and burned badly.
To the op, if you just did all that without saying anything nobody would have known. Too bad.

Forget it I just fried my SD card working on this rom. I was planning on making a touchwhizzy aosp-gingerbread, but then it bites me in the a$# and fries my damn sdcard. Good thing I had a spare.

Ok seriously, I'm always in favor of somebody trying to produce something "new" (key word) for the community. But, your track history in this area commands nothing but ridicule and flaming tbh. Keep working on whatever it is you are working on, but let the next thing you post in the forums be a link to something functional.

You have to have something to start with man, we didnt go from horse carriages to lambo's overnight.

Having been on XDA for a long time now I know that there are a vocal minority that will say "so what" to this post, but that's okay, I'm a happy camper today. The reason that I'm a happy camper is that when I got my Evo just about a year ago I didn't know anything about android. We had what seemed to be a 20 step root method using ADB that frankly scared the crap put of me when I tried it. It was nothing like using my old Mogul.
Today I was able to help 3 different people with problems. It was one of those good news / bad news situations. The bad news is that probably 90% of the folks here still know more about android than I ever will. The good news is that I'm now competent to help those other 10%!
I know, doesn't seem like much compared to out forum "greats," but 3 thanks from 3 different threads is a personal accomplishment for me.
Aha Congrats! I love helping people out although i don't know much as most people here in xda. Everyone learns one thread at a time!

I was the exact same way. I was a complete noob until I had CM7 running on my old Hero a few months ago (6 I think?) then I got the evo and since about 3 weeks ago, I started helping people out. I even made a perfected batch script that pulls apps from /data/app and for devs I made a /system pulling script.
Congrats man for being one of the good guys.
This is exactly the sort of thing that everyone on XDA should be all about. I've personally come a long way from mucking around with ADB to root my Hero and it's really nice to be able to help out every now and then.
Nothing wrong with taking pride in helping others! There are some things it's ok to be proud of, that's one of them! I, too, was a complete noob when I came from iPhone to EVO. At first i just read every thread that had an interest to me but soon i started to read questions and thing "Oh, i know that answer I had this problem already!" or maybe someone else had the problem and posted about it and I read that thread. Before long I was helping people fairly regularly, Up to 17 thanks so far which I know isn't that much but for me it is since i still really know very little about android. But remember it doesn't matter how little you know, as long as you share it!
Some of us remember well the days before internet came around. There were no communities like this. If you needed to know something and it wasn't in a book you owned you went to the library and spent all day looking it up! Now any 8 year old can google anything in 5 seconds. And with smartphones they can do it anywhere. Communities like this one are making sooo many things possible that just weren't before for most people, and people that are willing to help others are what makes it all possible!
The internet? Days before? I don't even ...

Agreed. Helping out people before they make the same mistakes you did, or helping them fix a problem, answering their questions; it's like being a parent guiding your kids, and that's all good.
Agreed. xda is head and shoulders above most forums I've seen for having people willing to take the time to help with both simple questions as well as helping unwind over-the-top complicated disasters.

Hey, that's what a community board is all about. Helping those that need help and getting help in return. At one point even the developers were "noobs". They had to start from scratch with only each others knowledge and a couple computers and phones. After years of giving each other a helping hand, they were able to crack every code all the manufacturers created to lock down the true potential of the phones and have made XDA the biggest and best. developers website there is today.

May not work with CM7. I think it's only been developed for/on a Blur ROM.
<edit> confirmed not working on CM7.
<edit 2> I also want to say I love how the OP started this thread when the dev himself admits it's not complete, and everyone is having major FC issues and whatnot when they flash it. Seems like someone just wanted to be in the "I posted it first" club!
OP should edit thread title to reflect that this is probably an early Alpha if we are lucky, and not working horizontal mirroring.

KANG - To steal or a stolen code when referring to programming. Also can refer to leaked coding.
Due to the copious amounts of kanging that now happens in regards to android development I will be pulling all of my links and changing the original posts with this. If you would like to use my roms please feel free to find the kanged version elsewhere.
For inspiring developers, rtfm or ask someone who knows what they are doing before you steal someone elses work, look at someones code and get the general idea. If you port or use something as a base, credit that person. Do not just link back to the thread where you got it from. My email is [email protected] so feel free to ask questions, if I know the answers I will be willing to assist.
I don't wish to call anyone out but I will say there are a few roms, specifically for MT4G Slide that have been kanged. One of which was taken from me, another was a kanged version of CM7 which was just the Settings.apk SettingsProvider.apk and Launcher.apk replaced. CM7 is framework edits, not just a list of apps an entire team works on. You cannot just replace apps in CyanogenMod and expect it to work thus the reason some parts of the Settings.apk force close. Its not hard to be an idiot but its even easier to spot bull**** work, do yourselves a favor, leave xda, leave rootzwiki, leave whatever thread you are on and learn from people who know what the fk they're doing.
If my email fills with hate mail, then fine, at least what I did I feel was right and do not have to worry about my development being taken and rebadged, if I'm out of line then have a moderator delete and close my thread. Thanks!
I have learned a whole lot from you, and couldn't imagine missing them "classes"

It seems you can't go to a thread lately without some drama out there. Even our great DEVs are snapping at people. You can't mention the iphone without a huge debate breaking out. And heaven forbid you say something even remotely negative about CM9.
We are all here bonded with a common interest...to make our awesome Epics more awesome. Can't we all try being a little nicer about it. If a noob asks a question answered a 100 times, politely tell him to search and use Google as well and answer the question. Reading all these negative posts are making me feel like snapping too. And who here is not guilty of asking a stupid question at least once? Hell I am scared to death to post in the CM9 development thread the way people get flamed....and I have read the entire thread.
I have been here for a year and a half and seen this forum at its best and at its worst. Can't we all try to keep it at its best?

Im cranky because im frustrated that I dont understand android better despite hours of reading and countless hours of trial and error. My battery life blows and I miss SRF1.2.
I think it is because everyone has run out of stuff to complain about. First it was no GB, we got GB, then it was no ICS, now we have ICS...
People like to complain, and when they can't they lash out at people...
I also think it has to do with the Nerd herd needing recognition. They need to here that their "E-Penis" is bigger than everyone else's, otherwise we get lovers quarrels.

January and February are long, grey, ugly months (except for me and Kenny, who live in Florida and love this time of year; sunny, warm, no humidity).
I'll probably get flamed just for the previous sentence...
But we mustn't despair! Spring is around the corner, and the devs keep pumping out great stuff. I know there was some drama recently concerning clean githubs (whatever the hell that means), but its not too far off from last year's assault on kanged launchers and some other dust-ups. Basically, we are rocking a device that is going to turn 2 years old this summer, running the latest Android version and still sporting a stable of talented, dedicated and brilliant devs.
Perhaps, as the expression goes; "It's Just That Time Of The Month..."

Still, I am constantly surprised by the overtly hostel tones put forth by long time developers, even more so to each other than the average user, to such a point I am surprised there are any left that will talk to each other...

Though whenever I get to bummed about it, I just go read a few threads in the EVO section, and realize it could be worse... much worse...

... and the answer keeps being shown to be... nope...
Though whenever I get to bummed about it, I just go read a few threads in the EVO section, and realize it could be worse... much worse...

I'm Rick James *****! That is the tits! In all seriousness though, I'm guilty of being quick to jump on people sometimes, but I, usually, try to apologize ASAP afterwards.

Cocaine is one hell of a drug
I've been on XDA a long time. Met some tremendous people here and have learned an incredible amount. A lot of us joined together and did something special (#NeverAgain).
In my time, a lot of things seem to have gone sour with XDA (not the people that use it).
The only downside here is that XDA is a force. Everyone uses it. Because of that, everyone gets treated the way XDA wants to treat you, not necessarily how they SHOULD be treated.
THE ONLY WAY FOR THERE TO BE CHANGE, IS ACTION.
Sincerely,

EDIT. Could not find a way to delete my account. Someone can take care of that after this gets reported I assume.

I applaud your move. Yet as you probably know, you cannot boycott or even teach adults into morals and values. If they value fame, money, or prestige over behaving correctly, then nothing can change that now.
They will not understand what you are even talking about. They will only feel threatened and will either lash out or silence you.
Your message does have a chance to get others. What remains to be seen is whether or not then leaders of this forum will be cowardly and silence you by taking down this thread or will they leave it up for a chance at meaningful and productive dialogue so you can get your message out?
sorry to hear you're leaving too. xda is mess.
we've seen a bunch of devs leave here and and then eventually shutting down. guess they just lose the interest in time. but it was fun. thanks for keeping us informed on the root thread when all else failed.
I just welcomed you back. I appreciated your thread when I first came over to this forum. Hopefully they will keep it up. Maybe I'll start downloading everything I don't already have in case they do and I'll maintain it, if that is ok with you. Feel free to PM me with anything before you leave.
Peace and Chicken Grease
What exactly is the issue here I don't understand...

Not going to air it all out, but it's my personal opinion xda could be doing a heck of a lot more for the community it depends on.
Other sites seem to get it. That's where I hope people go.
Farewell old friend.

See you over on Rootz shame XDA has driven you away
I completely agree. This site makes a lot of money from its users. Its great when a site gives back.

I hear you bro -- but from an outsiders perspective, it sounds like you are taking something too seriously. I for a v brief time felt the way you did even, then I realized .. allowing a website to keep me from downloading files is short changing truly only me. Have no choice ~

Seriously.. have you considered a tweet / pm / etc maybe that will get more of a message across. Nothing personal, just my .02
Happy crack flashing!

Wait a minute. You don't have to get ugly, but can you give some context? What is the issue?
