I'm rooted running honeyvillian with stock kernel, super user keeps force closing. I can gain root in terminal via the su command, root explorer is granted su permissions but titanium, setcpu and rom manager, Acer recovery all give a permissions denied.
I've updated the su binary, unrooted and re rooted, seems root is fine then unexpectedly starts to force close, I was going to run fix permissions in rom manager yet was denied tried in terminal fix_permissions not recognized should I attempt fix permissions via cwm?
Or should I return to stock, unroot and start all over?
Thanks for the input.

(Droid X 2 weeks old) I’m trying the temporary root option.
It reads I’m rooted until my next reboot, but I’m trying to use the wifi tether and it reads “Sorry, but your kernel does not have all necessary features for running the application.”
Busybox says "Not Rooted"
What must I do?
From what I understand, the temporary root keeps you rooted only unless you
reboot. So each time you reboot the phone, you have to temporary root in z4
over again. Otherwise, just do the permanent root.
you should use z4root 1.1.0 not 1.3.0 and permanent root. Worked for me.

You also need to install the super user app from the market.
The features its talking about is Access-Control, which has never really worked to begin with. The app will still do what its supposed to just you can't use that one feature.
Prob just didn't get the pop-up to allow su privileges. Usu. just exit & restart the app & allow when it shows...

& z4root 1.3.0 works & installs su when it roots - u might want to get a more updated busybox from mkt tho.
As a sidenote, when I first used it I had to temp root first, then perm root after. Other times it just took a min or two to achieve perm root.
If someone could point me in the right direction
Ive tried to unroot but it says wait 5 secs then tells me its not unrooted
I also turned it off and tried it again same thing.
I did have my tab rooted on a diff rom now im back on stock 3.1 with it still rooted idk if that could mean somethiing well just let me know

My tab did the same, but when I check root with terminal emulator, i discovered that my tab was no longer rooted. Type su into the terminal emulator field.
Install iconiaRoot and unroot it,the same way you rooted it.You should have made an initial backup from the beginning, but iconiaRoot should work.
nope, probably won't work.
superuser app is gone, but the su binaries are still in system/xbin/

Delete ?

Make sure USB debugging is enabled under settings/applications. If it's been disabled it won't unroot.
Had the exact same issue after flashing light speed rom completely lost root still had cwm as recovery but would not allow me access to root

Wont let me delete it and I've factory reset and what not still in my apps list acts like a factory app now lol and it's not rooted
any ideas on how to remove the super user app
Beware of the recent update to 3.04, there are frequent reports of apps requiring root access not working due to superuser fcing. YMMV.

Yes in the market hit uninstall and it will revert back to the previous version

Thanks for the quick response, however I've done that -having the same result...Tried apps after that...still no go. Ran root checker "No Root Acess." Unless its the Titanium Backup update. Other than those 2, I haven't done anything else.

Uninstall su and reflash your rom
Deck's + SZ + SuperCharger script + ViperMod script.
Oops
Deck's + SZ + SuperCharger script + ViperMod script.
So far unsuccessfull at uninstalling su...theres only the update option from the market...at this point lost..
I have had the same issue. So far the only workable solution that I have come up with is to:
- Delete the App data for Superuser (in Manage Apps).
- Run Super User and change the Automatic Response to Allow (in superuser preferences).
Not ideal because any app that requests su will get it. Have to keep an eye on the log until a fix if there are any apps that you do not want to have su.
Thanks...was able to delete su app data and access su...yet still no access to root apps (su 2.3.6.3)
Just reflash rom

No need to reflash roms or uninstall anything from from your phone guys.... The fix is to uninstall updates of superuser in market.... Once done this go to your applications on your phone and click on superuser app and hit ok when the popup screen comes up.... And your apps that require root access will work once again....

Confirmed. Recent update fixed issues.
my fix was...
Uninstall updates as stated in earlier post ;-) Then a restart or Reboot is all is needed. no need to reinstall the rom thats not the answer.
No issues here, have the latest superuser.
Downgraded, Restarted, rebooted su force closes still...any suggestions?

Thanks evo4gnoob for the keen eye and the catch! I've already uninstalled superuser -- awaiting a more stable release.
Once again, thanks a million! =)
The new SU screwed my phone too, but I just installed, and flashed a older one from recovery, and all is well.
I've been messing with my phone for about 2 days now since I've gotten it. I haven't had any issues and have installed a ton of ROM's. However I keep having one issue. Every time I flash an ICS rom I keep getting denied root access. I've tried every ICS ROM available and every one does it to me. None of the gingerbread ROM's have broken it. It installs just fine, but any time I try to do anything that requires superuser permissions they get denied, but if I flash back to a 2.3.x ROM I'll have complete root access.
It doesn't seem to be an issue for anyone else from what I've been reading. I'm permanently rooted with gfree and have the good eMMc chip. Is this just normal with ICS ROM's or is there a fix I am too blind to find? Sorry if this is a dumb question. I've come from the Motorola Triumph from Virgin Mobile that's practically rooted out of the box.
Sounds like your not fully wiping everything. The ics roms had root problems when they updated to 4.0.4 but was fixed and shouldn't have that problem now. Use 4ext recovery if your not already using it. use the "wipe everything but sd" option and try a ROM again.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk
Well I'm not sure if this would help but when you flash an ics rom go to your apps through the settings, find superuser, click force stop then clear the cache...then try opening up terminal emulator and tryping SU and hit enter and press allow.
Hope this works for you, I remember a long time ago it was a problem with one of the miui roms for the mytouch.
Don't forget to hit thanks if it worked

This was actually the first thing I tried. I use 4ext and I have always used the wipe all (but sd card) option. I also didn't use Titanium backup to restore apps or anything like that so I'm not sure what it could be.

After doing this I have the same issue I have every time I've tried to check my root status through the terminal emulator. It always says "Permission Denied" and it won't even bring up the superuser box.
(Superuser is still in my applications though, and when I open it up it has been logging the denied attempts in terminal emulator.
This happened on Ice Cold Insomnia.
Huh, idk what the problem is, maybe try re-rooting the phone with a different method? What method did you use?

gfree
Try changing su app to automatically allow su permissions instead of prompt to see if su is even granting access.

The rooting method has absolutely nothing to do with root privileges on custom ROMs flashed through custom recovery.
Actually, the rooting method doesn't even matter. All that matters is S-OFF. And since the OP has S-OFF, no re-rooting will possibly do him any good.
OP, many of ICS ROMs moved to SuperSU instead of Superuser app. Maybe that causes you problems.

So would I just install SuperSU then? I downloaded it but it didn't make a difference.
EDIT: I flashed Zips Creamed Glacier and SU is working fine. I guess I'll just stick with this one. Thank you to everyone for your suggestions.
when trying to install apps via titanium backup , the error i get is sorry i could not require root privileges.. please verify your rom is rooted, includes busybox and try again.... this attempt was made using /system/xbin/su
how can i fix this
when i click problems, it only allows me to upgrade SU.. not busybox. Im on the strike 1.0.3 aosp rom 4.0.3
Try clearing your app data for superuser permissions.
I got that error twice, after accidentally selecting "no" when it asked for root and on one of the last updates for titanium backup.
This was the solution in each case, just be sure to re-approve all if your other program's that request root.

What ROM are you running?? Did you go into SU and toggle permissions on?
I ran into a similar issue recently while trying to play with a JB ROM. I updated my su binary through Superuser and everything worked fine afterwards
