Changing my splash screen. - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm not new to modifying my phone, judy on certain areas I am. I followed true blue drew (i believe thats correct) method using terminal emulator, to flash the new splash screen. Well I rebooted, still stock. Yes, I'm permrooted,eng-boot. I cant use a computer,in the account of not owning one(i broke it). So what method works?

Screen Distorted

I just got this new MyTouch 4G here and it's been working well all day. While waiting on a red light in my car tonight, I turn on the screen and I see this. It's on 2.2 (no OTA). Has anyone seen this happen on this phone?
I uploaded the short vid to youtube. Pardon my voice, it was recorded on a MyTouch Slide.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZUfE1Ke4Vs
Edit: I wanted to watch the video on the YouTube app (on the phone) and after I watched and backed out of it, the screen flipped out again!
That happend to me also send it back to tmobile I did that and they just sent me a new phone

My phones been doing the crazy screen flippy thing as well. I'm new to the mt4g (coming from the g2)... But I assumed this was a known issue with the youtube update...but is it not? Is the flippy screen thing an issue I should be concerned about?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
There's nothing wrong with the phone... its a known youtube bug in the updated app
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
I just uninstalled the update and used the preinstalled version.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Off topic but what kind of case is that you have in the video?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Funny, I thought I was the only with this issue as I was on the phone with T-Mobile and they wanted me to exchange the device. I fixed it myself since the phone is fine otherwise. Since I was on 2.1 I simply followed the 2.21 update instructions and have a rooted phone now with a functional YouTube update.
I have a video of it is as well but I'm restricted from posting links since I'm not "verified".
Thanks guys. The issue was resolved after installing the OTA. I didn't have this issue on my first MT4G so my first reaction was hardware issue. Then I accidentally tried playing my YouTube video back and realized it was the app.
Thanks for the help!

Help

Ok I love my epic but ever since I updated to 2.2 the orientation had been extremely slow my phone is stock and I've tried a factory and reformatting my sd. I took it to sprint and they told me it was the software, but when I looked at the demos in the store there was no orientation delay. Any suggestions?

I would say try to Odin the stock tar file and see if it helps

look thru the forums for the 'lagfix', its the adb command yamahasensorcalibutil or something like that.. its just calibrating your sensors... works great on a good install of most eb13 or ec05 install...
Use terminal emulator, if you don't have it yet get it from the market. Open it and type /system/bin/sensorcalibutil_yamaha place the phone on a flat surface, and hit Enter. Reboot the phone and sensors will function at normal speed.
You ca use adb also. Good luck

I believe you need to be rooted.

Oh yeah, sorry im always doing that, assuming users are rooted lol

Doh! +1 on rooting assumption...
For the short periods of time I have been on total stock builds, when I first loaded EC05, it had the least lag out of any.... try to reflash? Consider taking the plunge to root? We have the neglected bastard child of sprintsung... what they dont do or dont do right we have to do ourselves...
Callibrate it using the option in display settings while putting it flat on the underside of a table.
Trust me, it works.
See here : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKECs764ayE
So it sounds like the only way to do this is to root my phone
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
Well it seems laying the phone face down on the horizontal calibration helped

You can either root it and fix it, or take it to Sprint, have them ODIN it which won't fix it and have them order a replacement which takes 3 days.

That doesn't fix the sensor lag, in fact for many people that has made it worse.
Feel free to read the original sensor lag fix thread if you don't believe me.

How To: Working Netflix

Hi. I'm new to the forums, but just figured this out - so be gentle.
This basically tricks apps into thinking your phone is a Nexus One
Download and install the netflix.apk (not sure if I'm allowed to post - I'm sure you can find it.)
1. Copy /system/build.prop to a local directory and change the following settings:
ro.product.name=libra_passion
ro.product.device=passion
ro.product.board=mahimahi
ro.build.fingerprint=google/passion/passion:2.3.4/GRJ22/121341:user/release-keys
2. replace /system/build.prop with the edited build.prop
adb remount
adb push yournewbuild.prop /system/build.prop
3. Reboot
4. Enjoy
How to I get to step one? Sorry I am a noob to this. Please help! Or could you post the modded apk?
Any side effects of changing those settings?
Here are some better instructions.

Same play for 2 seconds and then goes to the main menu screen. Both on 3G and Wifi.
I might get a membership for this, but I don't have an unlimited data plan and don't want to think of the charges I'd ring up. If I'm at home with my wifi I'd just use a TV.
Unless there's a way around that?
I just installed the Netflix apk file and it worked like a charm. I didn't edit anything. Also as for data usage refer to this http://blog.netflix.com/2011/03/netflix-lowers-data-usage-by-23-for.html. it mostly depends on your settings but it can, in turn, consume quite a bit of data.

Is there a way to download the entire movie at home and watch it later while out and about?
Anybody figure out a way to get this to work on 351? I get an error when trying to save the build.prop and then it just reverts back to what it was... thanks in advance

You opened it with read only privilege. You need to open it with a program that has root access.
You did make a backup copy first, right?
I used es file explore and I clicked the boxes to grant root access. It says error and just reverts back to what it was

Google Splash Screen.

Ok, we've seen things picking up for the NS4g and as development continues, I haven't seen this brought up. I love the Google slash screen on boot. It looks like heaven, but upon root a little lock appeared at the bottom, ruining my heaven with a opened gate. Anybody have some input on how to hide it? Give me a rough idea and ill try to make something flashable. Just a little inexperienced to just jump in.

Not possible.

it is possible. i did it to mine just to test it out, therefore relocking the bootloader. via fastboot, type in the command "fastboot oem lock"...
Yeah well next time you need to access the bootloader and you have to unlock it it's going to wipe your entire storage and device.

Yeah I thought just locking it too,but didn't for that reason. Sucks its not possible, I hate the lock.

I've been looking for the splashscreen folder (if there is one) in root explorer. Can't seem to locate it. I'd like to make some custom splashscreens.

People were looking for months to try to change it on the N1, with zero luck. It's not possible and completely inaccessible guys.

The .png for the lock must be somewhere, if you can decompile and replace that .png with a transparent one

Why is it not accessible on the Nexus phones but it is accessible on the EVO?
This line is in /init.rc:
export ANDROID_BOOTLOGO 1
Does that tell you anything?
Nope, not really
